[sheep bleating]

[male narrator] "Very Important Sheep."

[lamb bleats]

[dog barking]

[narrator] It was a beautiful spring evening on the island of Sodor,

and Sir Topham Hatt had come

to see the engines at Tidmouth Sheds.

[groans] Hang on a minute there, Percy.

Yes, sir. Good evening, sir.

I think maybe I forgot to tell you all this,

but tomorrow will be the spring fair in Maithwaite.

So, Thomas, I'’d like you to work with Annie and Clarabel

taking visitors to and from the fair.

And, Percy, I need you to go to Farmer McColl'’s farm

and collect his new spring lambs and ewes.

Me, sir?

No, ewes.

They are very important sheep, Percy,

so Farmer McColl wants them there nice and early.

Don'’t worry, sir.

I'’ll take them first thing in the morning,

as soon as I get back from my mail run.

[whistle toots]

[grunts] Jolly good, then.

[narrator] But the next morning, Percy was running late.

[whistle toots]

[Thomas] Are you okay, Percy?

My mail run took longer than usual.

I'’ll need more water before I go to Farmer McColl'’s farm.

Oh, no. There'’s a long wait.

Can I please fill up next?

Please, Gordon? I have to hurry.

I need to collect some very important sheep

to take to the spring fair.

[laughs]

Very important sheep?

The express is much more important than any sheep.

Oh, dear.

I'’ll have to fill up somewhere else.

[whistle toots]

And I still need to collect my cars.

[narrator] So Percy hurried on to collect his livestock car

without taking on any water.

Have to hurry. Have to hurry.

Stop!

Oops!

Careful there, Percy.

At last! [whistle toots]

Off to the farm!

[narrator] Percy was in such a hurry

that he didn'’t wait for his guard to inspect his wagon.

Oh, no! Percy, wait!

[narrator] And he didn'’t take his brake van with him either.

Percy arrived at Farmer McColl'’s farm

and collected the very important sheep.

He was very late,

but he couldn'’t pull away too quickly

with animals on board.

[train engine chugging]

[sheep bleats]

[narrator] And he still needed water

to get all the way to Maithwaite.

Finally I can get some water.

Have to hurry! [whistle toots]

Very important sheep coming through!

[lamb bleats]

[train engine chugging]

[whistle toots]

[horn honking]

Morning, Percy.

It certainly is! [chuckles]

[narrator] Percy didn'’t realize,

but every time he stopped or slowed down,

one or two of the sheep escaped from the livestock wagon.

[narrator] A little while later, on the same line,

Thomas was taking passengers to the fair.

Then there was trouble.

[brakes squealing]

Clattering carriages!

Whatever'’s the matter, Thomas?

There'’s a lamb on the track.

[lamb bleats]

A lamb?

[Clarabel] What on Earth are we going to do with it?

[lamb bleats]

[cow moos]

Wait a minute. I can'’t carry a lamb.

Think of my upholstery.

Look, Mommy, a lamb.

Oh, it'’s so cute.

We can'’t just leave it here, Annie.

And it is only little.

Well, all right. I suppose it is only a baby.

[whistle toots]

[Clarabel] That'’s the spirit, dear.

We must all make sacrifices in times of need.

-[brakes squeal] -[lamb bleats]

[gasps] What are you doing, Thomas?

Don'’t tell me there'’s another.

But there is!

And we'’ll have to pick this one up, too.

Whoa, here'’s another one.

[sheep bleats]

Hello there.

[sheep bleats]

It'’s a mommy sheep.

[narrator] Thomas set off again,

but he'’d hardly gone any distance at all before...

[gasps]

[brakes squeal]

Not another sheep.

[Thomas] I'’m afraid so, Annie.

I don'’t know where they'’re all coming from,

but we have to pick them up.

It'’s too dangerous to leave them on the tracks.

Well, I certainly hope this is the last one we find.

[narrator] But it wasn'’t the last one.

There were many more lost sheep still to be found.

And there wasn'’t room for all of them

and all of Thomas'’ passengers in Annie'’s carriage.

So the passengers all climbed into Clarabel

even though she didn'’t have much room either.

Where are they all coming from?

And, Percy, I need you to go to Farmer McColl'’s farm

and collect his new spring lambs and ewes.

Oh, they must be the sheep

that Percy was taking to the fair.

[children laughing]

Here he is, and right on time.

[whistle toots]

I went slow and steady, Farmer McColl.

[gasps]

The wagon'’s empty!

[gasps] Empty?

Yes, Percy.

Where are my very important sheep?

[gasps] Oh, no!

[narrator] Thomas was racing towards the fair to find Percy

carrying some very happy sheep

and some very unhappy passengers.

I just don'’t understand it.

The sheep were all safe and sound

when we left the farm.

There'’s a hole at the back of the wagon.

Oh, no!

I must have damaged it at the shunting yard.

I'’m sorry, Farmer McColl.

I was so worried about being late that...

[whistle toots]

[Thomas] Percy!

Farmer McColl!

Thomas?

[lamb bleats]

Goodness! Oh, my.

My very important sheep!

Oh, Thomas, thank you.

[laughs] I thought these must be yours.

I brought them back as soon as I realized.

-[sheep bleating] -[dog barking]

Oh, thank you, Thomas.

They escaped from my wagon.

Are they all right?

I think they'’re quite comfortable, Percy.

They'’ve been traveling in style.

They certainly have.

I hope I never have to carry livestock again.

[pig snorting]

[squealing]

Oh, dear.
