Mel.

- Why are you doing this? - What? I haven't touched you.

Why are you hanging around?

I'm with Terry. He'll be here any minute.

Oh, I don't think so.

Last time I saw him

he was fixing his rust bucket on Ashfordly Road.

Let me take you home.

Ah, come on!

Give up, Michael.

You'll be sorry.

Careful, David. What's the matter with you today?

Sorry, Mr Greengrass. Just my heart's not in it.

Aren't you well, or what?

I'm just that upset about old Mr Whimsdale.

He had a good innings, you know. He were over .

We've all go to go sometime.

He's just offered me a full-time job, as well.

Do you really want to spend your days

working in a boarding kennel?

It were good working up there.

And now it's closed down. And Mrs Leacock's desperate.

Especially since my mam said no.

You lost me. Who's Mrs Leacock?

And what's she so desperate about?

She lives over Eltringham way.

She's got nowhere to leave Napoleon.

I'd look after him,

but now my mum's said I can't because she's allergic.

I don't know what you're talking about?

It's Napoleon, Mrs Leacock's cat.

Oh, a cat. Well, I'm with your mother,

cos I'm allergic to 'em an' all.

No only do they make me sneeze,

they bring me out in a rash.

I was gonna get two quid for that.

How much?

Two quid.

Two quid? What, for looking after a cat?

- Aye. - How long for?

-Two days. - Well, that's a pound a day!

Why didn't you say so before? You could bring him over here.

You said you were allergic!

I know. I shall just have to be brave, shan't I?

I'm sorry. A bit of dirt in the carburettor.

It's got one, then?

It's all fixed now, though. Ready for tonight.

Is it gonna be all right?

If this breaks down, I'll carry you to Gretna Green.

No. I meant...

I've been thinking about it all day, Terry.

What it means. It's a big step.

It means we really love each other.

Your dad will have to take us seriously.

I can't understand why he's so against you.

He wants the best for you. He'll come round in the end.

Yeah, I'm a bit sad they won't be there

to see me on my wedding day.

CAR DOOR OPENS

So, Alf says to him,

"What are you doing out so late, sir?"

This bloke takes a drag on his cigarette and he says,

"I'm walking the dog."

There isn't a dog. Nowhere.

So Alf says, "Would that be your invisible dog, sir?"

And then ― this is so funny ―

although Alf didn't think it was funny,

then this dog barrels out of the darkness.

It's a little Jack Russell cross.

- Can I ask you a question? - Course.

How do you spell pedestrian?

Has it got three Es or two?

Pedestrian?

Two Es, one A and a P at the beginning.

LAUGHS

You're so funny, Mike!

Hi, Gina. Give us a scotch.

You're looking very smart this evening, Claude.

I'm meeting a lady.

Ooh!

Don't get carried away. It's business.

Me and David are going into feline husbandry.

- And what's that? - Cat-sitting.

Pardon? That sounded like you said cat-sitting.

I did.

Well, sooner you than me, Claude.

David's doing the day-to-day running of it.

I'm looking after the financial side, as is my wont.

So, she's resisted your charms yet again?

Who?

- Mel. - Hmm.

She's just playing hard to get.

You want to show her who's boss.

- What do you know about it? -I've had my moments.

Like when?

Never you mind.

But if you ask me, it's like most things in life.

You've got to spot the right opportunity and grab it.

Oh, erm... Excuse me.

I'm looking for a Mr Greengrass.

That's him.

Mr Greengrass. Nice to meet you.

- Mrs Leacock. - Mrs Leacock.

- Can I get you a drink? -Can a duck?

I'll have a brandy and ginger.

You know, listen, I'm most awfully grateful to you.

Especially at such short notice.

Don't you worry, Mrs Leacock. It's a pleasure.

You like animals?

Sometimes better than people. Especially cats.

I couldn't agree more.

Do you know, I wish I'd known about you earlier.

I never felt old Whimsdale gave the love that was needed.

Ah, it's a shame,

because affection costs nowt, does it?

Do you know, I don't think there's one animal

I don't really like.

Really?

Do you know, I might be able

to put extra business your way.

Wonderful. You don't have to ask, you know.

Just wheel 'em in.

Another drink?

Seeing as it's a special occasion,

I'll have a big 'un.

We just thought we'd go to the pictures in Ashfordly,

then have some fish and chips afterwards.

If I stayed at Karen's tonight,

I'd be right for work, then.

# There's a little bird

# That somebody sent

# Down to the earth

# To live on the wind

# Born on the wind... #

You take care, all right?

# It sleeps on the wind

# This little bird #

I'll see you.

# That somebody sent

# It's light and fragile its feathers sky-blue #

Has she gone out?

Yeah. She's gone.

Things have been going well between us, haven't they?

Yes.

Do you think it's time we moved on?

I just thought...

I mean, what I was thinking about was...

- A baby. - Yes.

Oh, Neil. What about my job? I don't want to give it up.

You'd have to take a break, but we could work round that.

I don't know.

We'd get through it.

I just don't think I could go through it all again.

I'm sorry.

# Here comes the bride, all dressed in white... #

Shh!

I can't believe you're going.

A wedding present.

If the fan belt goes on his car,

you can use it instead of your stockings, eh?

BOTH CHUCKLING

Which dress did you decide on?

The blue silk one my mum made me.

With the embroidered neck?

Oh, you'll look lovely!

I don't know if the flowers

will last till morning, but still.

Oh, eh, best of luck, Mel.

I'm that jealous.

I wish somebody would whisk me off.

I'd best get off. He'll be waiting.

I'll tell you everything when I get back.

- Bye, then. - See ya.

NEIL: Cup of tea?

MAGGIE: Neil!

Hey!

ENGINE REVS

Neil!

Neil, are you all right?

Yeah. Yeah, I'm fine.

Terry?

Is that you?

SIGHS

Certainly looks like they knew what they were doing.

I've made a quick check of what's missing.

They've taken quantities of amphetamines, barbiturates,

and a selection of tranquillisers.

I'd say they had a shopping list.

Do we know the make of the car?

They didn't get a close look. Like the one I saw yesterday.

A bloke hanging about the surgery. Then drove off.

-Did you get the number? - Yes, I'll trace the owner.

MAN: Right. Thank you.

That were Dysons. They reckon Mel hasn't turned up for work.

Where's that Karen's number?

I bet the daft pair have overslept.

Tom, love, I don't think she stayed with Karen.

What?

Does this have anything to do with Terry Matthews?

I think they've gone away together.

I'm calling t'police.

Tom, he hasn't kidnapped her!

They've eloped.

I don't know what you're talking about. Go home.

You must know where she is! I waited all night for her.

I know you've done something to her.

I don't know what you're going on about.

I've looked everywhere.

This isn't a joke. Tell me where she is!

- I'm going to the police. - Go ahead.

Hey!

Let me out!

What do you think you're playing at?

Come on! Where's Terry?

Answer me!

Let me out!

Please!

SIGHS

If she could see how worried we both are.

It's just so thoughtless.

It's not like her. Not like her.

Did she tell you she was going to elope?

Not exactly, but I knew she was planning something.

If you knew, why didn't you stop her?

Tom, they're in love!

Love? She's only known him five minutes!

Of course nobody's gonna be good enough for his Melissa!

- Melissa's her full name? - Yes.

Anyway, what's the next step?

We'll file a report and send both their descriptions

to neighbouring forces.

And, erm... Scottish police.

Scottish police?

Gretna Green.

Wait till I get my hands on him!

BRAKES SQUEAL

Ah! Good morning! Mr Greengrass about?

No, he's running a bit late.

Not to worry. Here.

Now, Napoleon's box of tricks are on the front seat.

Be a dear and take them out for me, would you?

The instructions for Napoleon's food

are in the box with his toys and his blankets.

He does need pampering, I'm afraid,

or he gets upset.

It's in the genes.

Very highly strung, these champions.

- Is he a champion? - He most certainly is.

And I'm showing him next week, so we don't want him upset.

-Who are they? -This is Gwen, Pablo.

And Henry's in the back of the Land Rover.

What are they doing here?

They've come to stay. To keep Napoleon company.

Henry hates long journeys, so he may as come to you.

I don't think Mr Greengrass is gonna like this.

Of course he will. The more the merrier.

He said so last night. Anyway, give him my regards.

Tell him I'll settle up at the end of the week.

Come along, Henry. Good boy.

I've been to Terry Matthew's place

and there was no-one there.

Yeah. Yeah, dark hair,

blue eyes, wearing jeans and a PVC mac.

And she was carrying a blue overnight bag.

What about the car outside the surgery? Any news?

Oh, still waiting to hear.

Hiya, Terry.

I want to report a missing person.

Well, maybe she simply changed her mind.

You don't know Mel. It was all set.

Karen was meeting her to give her a present.

- How long did you wait? -Hour and a half.

Then what did you do?

I went round to Karen's.

She wasn't there. So I went back and waited.

She left at . .

Parents haven't seen her since.

Did you wait all night?

I drove to Dysons as soon as it was light.

That's the bakery, sarge.

But she didn't turn up.

That's when I really started to worry.

Then I went to see Michael Davies.

What's he got to do with this?

She's been out with him. He keeps pestering her.

I don't know. It's the only place I could think of.

What's going on?

Er, Mrs Leacock, she's brought Napoleon.

Good, but what's this lot?

Well... this is an Old English sheepdog.

It looks more like a rug.

-And his name's Henry. - I'm glad to hear it.

What are we supposed to do with that?

This is a llama.

CLAUDE: What's his name? Dalai?

What?

Don't worry about it. What are they doing here?

Well, she said you agreed last night.

How much is she supposed to be paying us?

She said she'd sort that out with you later.

Ah, well, give me Napoleon. I'll take him in the house.

Just make sure all them are tied up safe, all right?

SNEEZES: I've started.

I'm not sure what time it was.

About quarter to eight.

I'd been waiting a while.

She arrived and I gave her the present.

This daft garter thing. Blue.

And then she went off.

Off up Pimhole Lane to meet Terry.

So did you see him?

No, he was gonna be down by the main road waiting.

Thanks. She was taking the short cut. We always do.

- Did you see anyone else? - No.

Can you think of anywhere else

she might have gone?

She seemed very happy.

Not that I suppose that's very important.

Thanks very much.

Look, I'm not the one she was going to elope with.

I don't know why you're questioning me at all.

You were involved with Mel Drinkwater.

We want to talk to everyone that knows her.

I took her out a few times. Nothing else.

She dumped me for lover boy, end of story.

Tell me where you were last night, sir.

In York. At a university friend's birthday party.

- Their name? - What?

What's your friend's name? So we can verify this.

Why? I haven't done anything.

Then we'll be able to eliminate you

from our enquiries, won't we, sir?

CLAUDE: It's the first time I've seen a cat

with an instruction manual.

Have you seen

what we're supposed to feed this cat?

This cat eats better than I did when I used to.

Look. This is his dinner.

It's not, it's ours. The cat can have the head.

Does that record player work?

What, that one over there? Nah, not in years. Why?

Hm, just Napoleon,

he likes classical music before his bed.

She's given us some of his records.

You're joking.

Brahms.

Beethoven.

Chopin!

He can listen to the wireless and like it.

Thanks very much for your help.

- Barry Hadfield? - Yeah.

PC Bradley. I'd like to ask...

- Is this yours? -Oh, thanks.

I can't lose that. Engagement ring.

-Who's the lucky girl? -Jeannie Walsh.

Anyroad, how can I help you?

I wanted to ask you about Mel Drinkwater.

Is she in some sort of trouble?

She's gone missing. How well do you know her?

Only from here, really.

I see her when I pick up my deliveries.

Can you think of anywhere she might have gone?

Or anyone she might have mentioned?

I don't know. She doesn't really say that much.

I've seen this bloke waiting for her after work.

- Her boyfriend, I think. -Terry Matthews?

No. Councillor's son Michael, with his flashy car.

Right, well, er... Thanks very much.

Pleasure.

Fine. Thank you very much.

KNOCKING ON DOOR

Come in.

I telephoned Michael Davies's friend in York.

There was no birthday party.

Now, there's a surprise.

I've just had an illuminating conversation about Davies.

His university tells me

he was sent down at the end of last term

for selling dr*gs to the other students.

We've had word back about the number plate.

It was registered to... guess who?

Michael Davies. He's full of surprises, isn't he?

All of them nasty ones. Bring him in again, Ventress.

- DOOR CLOSES - SNEEZES

Mr Greengrass.

David. Are you all right?

It wasn't really my fault, but the door was open a bit.

I'm sure it wasn't and I'm sure it was,

but what are you talking about?

I was getting the salmon ready for Napoleon's dinner

and I put it on the table

and I was going to poach it in the milk like it said.

It was while I was looking for the milk that it happened.

-Did it? What? -It was Alfred.

He's nicked the fish and he's run off with it.

Did he? It could have been worse, I suppose.

It might not have been the dinner he had,

it could have been Napoleon.

ENGINE STARTS

Is this all for Mel?

In cases like this it's normal procedure.

There's something I didn't tell the other policeman.

- Penny for them? - And the rest.

Two and six?

I didn't mean to pressure you when I talked about a baby.

I know it's a big question.

I just... wanted you to know I think I'm ready.

If something went wrong, if we lost another baby...

I don't think I could face it.

Well, I can understand that, but...

I don't know.

You reassure prospective mothers all the time.

You know all the facts, how good our chances are.

What would you say to one of your patients?

I can put my uniform on and convince everyone else.

But you can't convince yourself?

I just don't think I could go through all that again.

SIGHS

Here.Now, take your time.

SNIFFLES

You said you went back to Michael Davies's house.

With him and his friend, Keith, he's called.

Keith Merchant.

They'd opened wine.

It was lovely.

Strong, though.

Funny-tasting.

I should have told you, but I thought I'd be in trouble.

It doesn't matter. You're here now.

They tried to get us drunk.

Mel saw Michael Davies putting vodka in the wine.

She gave him a right telling-off.

I couldn't do anything. I felt too sick.

Keith tried to calm her down.

Put music on, tried to get her to dance.

She told him where to go.

If she hadn't been there...

She got me home.

What does this Keith Merchant look like?

Why would your friend lie about the party?

How should I know?

Perhaps because it didn't happen.

Can you remember anyone else who was there?

No. I was drunk.

How convenient.

I spoke with your tutor earlier.

You were sent down for selling dr*gs, weren't you?

Amphetamines and barbiturates, I'm told.

I'm not saying anything else.

It's a bit of a coincidence.

Dr Bolton's surgery was broken into last night

and dr*gs were stolen.

Your car was seen driving away from there

earlier in the day.

Thing is, we're concerned

about the safety of Mel Drinkwater.

She's officially a missing person

and you're the only one who lied about last night.

So what were you up to?

Tell me about your relationship

with Mel Drinkwater first.

I want to know what happened and where you've taken her.

We know you had a relationship

with Mel Drinkwater.

During that time you invited her to your house

and spiked a bottle of wine with vodka.

That's ancient history.

Keith said it would be fun. Get them to relax.

It didn't work though, did it?

And you've been pestering her ever since.

We have a witness who says you bothered her after work.

She couldn't keep her hands off me six months ago.

But that changed, didn't it, Michael?

So you thought you'd steal dr*gs

and use them to subdue her.

Subdue her? What do you think I am?

A selfish, arrogant man who likes to get his way.

You broke into the surgery

and then kidnapped Mel Drinkwater.

This is too much.

I did not kidnap Mel Drinkwater.

But you did break into the surgery.

You and your friend Keith.

Come on. We've linked your car to the burglary.

We thought we'd get away with it easily.

But I never, ever planned to kidnap Mel Drinkwater.

What about Keith Merchant? Would he do it?

I think you need to ask him that.

Mel Drinkwater's been missing for more than hours.

If you really cared, you'd be thinking how to help her.

I'm about to instigate a search on the moors.

Do you know what we're looking for?

Her body.

Melissa.

It's too late to take you home now.

No, it isn't really. Mum and Dad will be worrying.

I'll take you home in the morning.

Why did you do it, Mel?

Have I not looked after you?

You kidnapped me, Barry.

You always said we should be together. Ever since school.

I've never told you we should be together.

I bet you thought I'd never keep this.

I was when I sent you that.

I didn't really mean it.

- Then why send it, eh? - Because...

You sent it, you must have meant it.

I was years old.

It was just a laugh.

It makes us childhood sweethearts.

No, Barry.

Please, listen to me. You've got it all wrong.

I know that, but I'll make it up to you.

I can make you happy if you'll just let me.

I'll be happy if you take me home.

I've got something for you.

Something very, very, very special.

-No. No, get up, please. -Look.

Now it's official.

I'm yours... and you're mine.

If you really love me...

you'll let me go home.

Keith Merchant's scarpered.

He's stolen Michael Davies's car.

When did he leave?

Councillor Davies says about half-past nine.

He packed and left.

Before they knew it he was pulling out of the drive.

So, what do you think, sarge?

If he's taken the car, he could be going to get Mel.

Where does it hurt?

My head. It's a sharp pain. I need to go home.

I'll get you something.

What are you doing?

Here you are. Take a couple of these.

Now get some rest.

I'll take you home in the morning.

- Do you mean that? - Course I do.

Sweet dreams.

DOOR LOCKS

Yes, Mike, I'll be along with a car to assist.

Over and out.

Mike's found Davis's car.

It's run out of fuel on the Whitby road.

He won't get far on foot.

Oh, he could have hitched a lift.

Or maybe even caught the last bus to Whitby.

SIGHS

So, you're sure you know what to do?

Yes,I think I can remember how to get myself to bed.

No, I meant Napoleon with his pink blanket and that.

Yes, I'll give him a chocolate mouse

and a cuddly toy, thank you, David.

Shall I turn the wireless on for him?

If that is your desire, thank you, David.

Right, I'll go.

Yeah. Thank you, David.

It takes a bit of time to warm up.

Yes, thank you, David!

Right, Mr Greengrass.

Napoleon.

BLEATING

So, we've got Michael Davies and Keith Merchant

for the surgery break-in.

As they've been eliminated from our enquiries

into Mel Drinkwater's disappearance,

we need to extend the search area.

Bradley, I want you to make door-to-door enquiries

in a quarter-mile radius around Pimhole Lane,

-where Mel was last seen. - Yes, sarge.

Bellamy, I want you covering Top Beck and Blackridge.

Ventress, take the Harrowby area.

I thought you might be making an early start.

Your help is appreciated, Mr Drinkwater,

but I think you'd be better off at home.

I need to help.

I can't sit at home.

She's my daughter.

Don't you think your wife needs you with her today?

No. No, we've talked.

If someone's going to find her,

then I want it to be me.

Maggie. Maggie.

Hello, Barry. How have you been? Are you coping?

I'm fine, I'm fine.

Got anything for a headache with sickness?

I can't just give you tablets. How bad's the pain?

It's quite bad.

How long have you been feeling like this?

Since last night.

I think you ought to see Dr Bolton.

- Let him check you over. - No, it's all right.

If it's troubling you, see the doctor.

No, I've got to go. I'll see you later.

I don't see why we have to stop.

It's just a short break.

Look, we've got a long day ahead.

Aye, I suppose you're right.

Trouble is when I stop looking, I start thinking.

This is all my fault.

No, it's not, Terry.

Whoever's taken her is to blame.

Not you.Come on.

DOOR OPENS

Come on, then.

- Where are you taking me? - Home, of course.

Really?

You said if I loved you I'd take you home. And I am.

No.

You're not taking me home. You're lying to me.

No. We're going home. To our home.

Barry, we don't have a home.

I live with my mum and dad. You live here.

I want to go to my home.

It is your home. I've been doing it up.

You'll love it there. I promise.

It's a happy place where no-one can touch us.

What place? Where are you taking me?

I want it to be a surprise.

Melissa! Melissa, don't!

Shh! Shh! Melissa! Melissa!

Shh! Shh!

Shh! Shh!

MELISSA SOBS

We're going to be happy. I promise.

GINA: Well, if it isn't Dr Doolittle.

You're in early, Claude.

I'm not in the mood, Gina.

Them animals are eating me out of house and home.

I know how you feel. We've had an expensive guest.

- What are you on about? -Alfred.

He turned up on the doorstep first thing this morning.

Aren't you feeding him, Claude?

You're joking.

He ate a complete salmon last night.

Mind you, he caught it himself.

I've a good mind to charge you.

That dog can eat his weight in sausages.

What can I get you?

Give us a large scotch. I'm celebrating.

What?

That Mrs Leacock's coming back tonight.

Perhaps I'll be able to stop sneezing all over the shop.

- Mr Greengrass! - David,

my day is just beginning to come right. Don't spoil it.

No, it's Napoleon. He's escaped.

- What? - I was looking him,

I opened the shed door and he's ran off.

Don't worry.

He'll come back when he's hungry.

What will we tell Mrs Leacock if he don't?

Lies.

Well, if he's not there, she won't pay us.

All right.

I think you've just said the magic words, David.

Say goodbye to Gina, David.

BARRY: Not far now.

Come on.

You're OK.

One step.

Here we are, then.

Come on.

Surprise!

Where is this place, Barry?

Come on. Sit down. Make yourself comfortable.

I've started the papering, all nice and bright.

The flowers aren't real.

I didn't know when you'd be coming, see.

We can grow a real flower garden.

Roses, daisies, whatever you want.

It isn't my home.

You've got everything here. I've thought of the lot.

Look, china.

SNIFFLES

I had to go to York to get it.

If you don't like it, we can get something else.

You can have whatever you want, Melissa.

SOBS

You can have more than three wishes, you know.

I love you.

SOBS

# At the end of the storm

# There's a golden sky

# And the sweet silver song... #

You look tired, Tom. Why don't you take a rest?

If I just let her court Terry Matthews,

this wouldn't have happened.

Still, that's the thing about being a dad,

you only learn from your mistakes.

You mustn't blame yourself.

You don't have children, do you?

No.

No, we had a boy, but he died when he was a baby.

I'm sorry. I didn't know.

That's OK.

Life goes on.

But you still have to live with the pain, don't you?

- All right, Sue? - Hiya, Mike.

Tell me, Sue.

Was it you who said you knew Barry Hadfield?

Yeah, we went to school together.

What's he like?

Erm... He's sweet.

Bit of a dreamer.

He told me he was getting engaged to Jeannie Walsh.

Well, that's the name of the bridal shop.

Exactly.

Jeannie Walsh is already married.

You must have got it wrong.

It was only a few weeks ago

he was telling me his fiancee was called Melissa.

Are you sure about that name?

What are we gonna tell her?

If you'd stop going on about it,

I might be able to think.

What was he doing in the shed anyway?

I put him in there cos he was driving me potty!

That wasn't in the instructions.

No. Neither was garrotting and that was the alter...

Alterna...

SNEEZES

He's here somewhere.

SNEEZES

He's under your chair.

I can't see anyone, sarge.

Is there a problem, sergeant?

We need to talk to Barry Hadfield

about Mel Drinkwater. No reply.

- He could be ill. - What makes you say that?

He was complaining about headaches and sickness.

Can you force the door?

There's no-one in there, but I found this.

It's the present Karen gave to Mel.

He's moved her.

Think of anywhere else they might have gone?

No, he lived here with his mother.

Somewhere they went on holiday perhaps?

Back to the same place each year maybe?

The other place would be the house they used to live in.

- Who's living there now? - It's derelict.

Tread carefully.

We don't know what state he's in

or what state Mel is in.

I'll go in with Mike. Barry knows and trusts me.

I'm not sure that's a good idea.

I'll be OK. I won't be on my own.

We'll cover the back. Doctor, you wait here.

Barry?

Barry, are you there?

It's Maggie Bolton.

Barry?

Barry... just...

We're going to be happy.

Barry. Please.

We've got a home.

BRADLEY: Come on, Barry. Let her go.

-BARRY: No! - It's OK.

Come on, Barry.

SOBS

It's OK. It's OK.

Come on, Barry.

It's OK. It's OK.

I've always loved her. Ever since school.

I thought that one day

she'd realise I was right for her.

Especially when they picked on her.

-Who did? - Them two lads.

First it was Michael, then Terry fighting over her.

Neither love her like I do.

I knew then that she needed looking after.

So I began following her. Keeping an eye on her, like.

But you kidnapped her, Barry.

I didn't.

When she came out of the house with that little bag,

I knew then that she'd realised.

She was coming home. To me.

He's gone, then?

I think Terry has something he wants to say.

I'm listening.

I love Mel and I want to marry her.

And I'd like it if you'd give me your permission.

I want to her what Mel has to say.

I think... I really love you, Terry.

It's just so much has happened in the last two days.

It's given me a lot of time to think.

I do want to get married.

But not in a rush.

I'd rather we just went out together

for a bit first properly.

Without having to sneak around behind Dad's back.

TOM: Fine.

You're working late, Sue.

I can't go till I've finished this report.

It's just so romantic.

Mel and Barry.

It's just like something from out of a film.

Romantic is not exactly the word I'd choose.

What, to be swept away like that?

Sue, he kidnapped her. Kidnapped.

Well, yes, I know all that.

But the basic idea is so romantic.

To sweep the woman you love into your strong arms

and carry her off.

SIGHS

Oh, dear. He's gone, then?

Oh, aye. And Mrs Leacock paid up.

Oh. Lovely. Right.

Here you are. There's your half.

Half?

Heating. I tell you something, David.

The cat must have left a lot of hair about.

It's still affecting...Aff...

SNEEZES

Affecting me.

Right. Well, that might be the other two, then.

-What other two? - Erm, there.

-What are they doing here? -We were recommended.

Mrs Leacock she's told her friend, Mrs Dankworth,

and she brought these two round just now.

That's Pyramus and Thisbe.

Pyramus and Thisbe?

More of a nightmare than a dream.

DOOR OPENS, CLOSES

What's going on?

Sue's at the station.

She wants to be swept off her feet. Go.

Sweep.
