Just for show.
Gentlemen, are we ready?

It's the cops, man.
It's the f*cking cops.

Go out the back! Abort!
RT: Get out now!

Armed police — get down on the
floor and drop your weapons!

My client has seen
the error of his ways.
Cut the sh*t.

Don't wanna see the old man go
down when he shouldn't have to.

He gave himself up for Grandpa?

No, I don't think he
did it for Grandpa.

I won't be out —
not for a long time.

I'll wait for you as long
as it takes — however long.

God, you are just so brave.

I don't really have a choice.

Well, if it was me,
I'd be a total mess.

You try not to think about it.

I tried to get the others to

It's his sentencing day, Loretta.
It's a really big deal for me and

News report.

The van was en route to Auckland's
maximum-security Paremoremo Prison

when it was diverted on to a side
road and driven to the secluded
area you can see behind me.

There, the two guards were
overpowered, and the five
men freed.

Police have just issued the names
and descriptions and these photos
of the five escapees.

They are Wiremu Te Toki
Tuteremoana, Arthur Ralph Belden,

Albert Stanley Lelanga,
Nicky Ian Greegan and
Timoti Ruawai Williams.

Now, police say at least two of
these men are serving terms for
m*rder,

and the rest were all convicted
for crimes of v*olence, most
involving the use of firearms.

They also say that at least
three of these men have g*ng
connections.

Also, according to police,
at least one w*apon was
used in the escape, ]

so the men should be considered
armed and dangerous ]

and should not be approached
by members of the public.

He's not dangerous. He's Nicky.

You go! Go, you good thing!

Fly like the wind, boy!

Did you not hear? They think he's
a m*rder*r, and they'll sh**t him.

They won't sh**t him.

I just saw the g*ns.

They'll have to catch him first.

Will you two put a sock in it?

He'll be OK if he doesn't
do anything stupid.

Well, what if, like, some of the
gangs guys use him as a decoy to,
you know, get their guys away,

and then they sh**t him?

Don't go there. Don't
even think about it.

All you need to worry about
is what you'll say to the cops.

I don't wanna say
anything to the cops.

I said we'd go to the
station to give a statement.

Nice stalling tactic
with the spewing, though.

I don't have anything to tell them.

You didn't know anything about this?

No, of course I didn't. How could I?

Then that's what you tell them.

I can come along if you like.

PHONE RINGS

No prizes for guessing who that is.

Yeah.
What the hell is going on up there?

You know as much as we do.

Is Pascalle there?

Yeah.

It's your mum.

Hi, Mum. The police are gonna
sh**t Nicky. I just know they are.

Shhh. Of course they're
not gonna do that.

How did this happen? Did you know?

No, I didn't know anything,
and now I don't know what to do.

I know. I know. Look, it'll be
all right, honey. You'll see.

So, you know nothing about how
two jet skis end up in my garage?

Well, I don't.

See, you say you don't,
but in a way that says you do.

But I don't.
Then why say you did?

I didn't.
Not what I heard.

It's what I said.
What is?

I don't know any more. Ask him.

Me? I don't know nothing
about no jet skis.

Not even when they're meant to
be in Taupo by now, on the lake,
terrorising the trout?

Falani, what's the Samoan for
'you big, dobbing coconut'?

Will someone tell me if the
jet skis are stolen or not?

No.
Hard to say.

Your brother's probably the
one who could clear that up.

Jethro?
Apart from him, you've
only got sisters.

Loretta has got a masculine air.

What's cock-breath to do with it?

You're talking about
Jethro and not Eric?

Yes.
We're helping him
sell off a few things.

Or not, as the case may be.

I needed somewhere for
storage in the short term.

I know treachery when
I see it, you worm.

RINGING TONE
I'll deal with you two later.

BAILEY: Hello?

Gee, man, you even sound like a
chick more these days, d*ck smoker.

Who is this?

Oh, is Jethro there, please?

He's a bit busy right now.

Well, can you tell him his brother
needs to speak with him, thanks?

Oh, do I have to?

Oh, God, yes.

What?
Not you.

Look, I know here's there.
What?

It's for you. Van.
Piss off.

You are a piece of sh*t.
What do you want?

I want you to keep me the
f*ck out of your sh*t.

OK.

I'm serious, man.

(MOANS)

Are you even listening to me?

(GASPS)

If I get arrested cos your stolen
jet skis are in my garage, I will
tell Mum on you.

Hold on. What jet skis?

You know what jet skis.

What about the jet skis?

The jet skis will not
turn up as stolen.

Van'll be relieved.

Yeah, I'm thrilled for him (!)
Why were they in his garage?

Uh, storage.

You said they were in Taupo.

(SCOFFS) No, I didn't.

You said a guy wanted them for his
place down by the lake — one for
him and one for his wife.

I don't recall saying
any such thing.

And when I helped you load it on to
a trailer, you said his name was
Derek and her name was Angelina.

Oh, all right, all right. Jesus.

I was gonna give you the money for
them once I had the money for them.

What happened to Taupo?

There was no Taupo. I made it up.

Why?

Fancy living by the
lake, do ya, 'Derek'?

Hooning around on your jet ski with
your wife, Angelina, on her jet ski?

If you wanted the jet skis for
yourself, why didn't you just
say so?

Because I thought you'd laugh at me.

With good reason.

And he can't afford it.

Eric, did you think that if you hid
the jet skis in the garage of the
house where you live,

somehow we'd just forget you had
them and not think to look there?

(EXHALES) Yeah.

Jesus Christ. Just sell the bloody
things, OK? I don't care who to,
as long as they're real.

Shall I take them back
to the warehouse?

No, no, definitely not, all right?

Thanks to Nicky f*cking Greegan,
no one goes near that place while
someone might be watching. Got it?

The cops.

Yes, Eric, the cops.

So flick them off.
Bring me the cash.

Okey-dokey.

Do you even know how
to ride a jet ski?

Oh, I thought it would be
an ideal opportunity to learn.

You are a strange
man on many levels.

You need to be very
careful right now.

If he calls, you say nothing
that lets them think that you
had anything to do with this,

because someone will be listening.
And if he wants to meet you, you
say no, cos they will be following.

Oh, I just wanna talk to him.

Yeah, I know. So do they.

If you give them an excuse to charge
you, any excuse, then they're gonna
take it.

You have nothing more to add?

No.
So you know nothing?

That's what I said.

You had no prior knowledge of this?

We've already established that.
And he hasn't contacted you?

You've asked that different ways.

Actually, I do have this to add.
Pascalle, don't—

I knew nothing about this,
because Nicky knew nothing about it,

and he hasn't contacted me, because
he's probably too busy trying not to
get k*lled by you or the g*ng guys.

And I hope he escapes everyone, cos
he is just the innocent party here,

and it was unfair and wrong
that he got nine years

when he was only helping Grandpa
and he didn't even get the money.

And if you hurt him, I'm gonna
make sure the whole world knows
just exactly how wrong it all is.

(LAUGHS)
It is not funny.

No, it's not. Not a lot funny about
how one of the guards pulled a Kn*fe
on his driver mate,

made him drive to where
we found the van.

Pull in.
Mind you, the guard with the
Kn*fe didn't have a choice,

because the night before, two
guys with shotguns turned up
to his house,

took off with his wife
and his -year-old kid,

told him if he didn't do exactly
what they wanted, that they'd k*ll
them. Not exactly hilarious, eh?

So the guard did
exactly what they said.

'And they still b*at
the sh*t out of him.'

SHOUTING, GRUNTING

Don't move. Get out of the van.

Mind you, the driver's in an
induced coma, so he got off light.

These guys knew what they were
doing, Pascalle. They didn't give
a sh*t who got hurt along the way.

Come on, move it.

Come on. Let's go. Move out.

(GROANS)

Still got nothing to say?

Nicky had nothing to
do with any of that.

Yeah? I think he did.

I think he's in it
up to his eyeballs.

I don't know anything.

Oh, sh*t.

OK, I'm here. What's the big
problem you can't talk to me
on the phone about?

Sometimes with calls, people
who shouldn't be listening
are listening.

If you say so. What do you want?

Is it true? That he's out.

In what sense do you mean 'out'?

Nicky Greegan.

Oh, yes, it is. So?

So? So what about us?

Which 'us' are you
talking about here?

Us girls. What if he comes after us?

Why would he do that?

Are you f*cking thick?
Money, revenge — take your pick.

Angel, I think that Nicky's got
a few more important things on
his mind right now

than coming after you.

Yeah? Well, the girls and I don't
happen to share your happy-clappy
world view,

so we're laying low for a while.

OK. When you say 'laying low',
you will still be laying with
the punters, though, right?

Laying low as in gone

until he's gone.

Oh my God, you cannot be serious.

I don't wanna be seen
anywhere near a West, either.

Angel.

Angel, get back—

(SCOFFS) Useless bloody slappers.

Chastity, if you get this, I have
a guy in Point Chev who is really
keen to meet you,

so despite whatever
Angel has said...

Um, just call me back, OK?

What are you doing here?

Well, I thought I'd take my wife
out for lunch if she's not too busy.

She's not.

Wow, your enthusiasm's
bowling me over (!)

Working girls is a complete
misnomer — they would take any
f*cking excuse not to work.

As if Nicky Greegan's gonna break
out of jail just to go after them.

He might.

Then he'd go straight back inside.

If you want any protection—

Me?
Yeah.

While we're at lunch?
Sure.

What, will you throw a salad at him?

People don't like losing girls,
Loretta. The fox that takes your
chickens gets taken out.

Did Nicky say that?
No, the old man, actually.

Listen, when Stalios the Greek took
two of Dad's top earners, he sent
him round a bottle of Red Xena...

Gosh, weren't those
the good old days (?)

Business hasn't changed much.

I don't have a business right now,
thanks to Nicky f*cking Greegan,
so you better be paying for lunch.

Do you think the cops have got
worse since you left the force?

No.
(TUNES RADIO)

I still can't believe
that Beltz guy.
What about him?

You'd think if they wanted to talk
to a person about another person,

like their fiance, who they know
really well, they'd at least listen
to what that person has to say.

Yeah.

You don't agree with him?

I don't know what to think.
Certainly sounds pretty nasty
and well planned.

(TUNES RADIO)

(SIGHS) God, why do radio stations
only play stupid music?

It's what people want to listen to.

Well, I need news. Oh, sh*t!

Why don't you go home?

I'm meant to be working.

It's not like you're doing much.

Is that OK? It's just they
might have news on TV.

Yeah, well, try not to
worry about him too much.

If the jet skis aren't stolen,
then who do they belong to?

Well, in his dreams,
they belonged to Eric.

He longs to feel the rush of the
wind through his hair as he races
Angelina across the waters.

Strictly speaking,
they're Jethro's, all right?

He can't even swim.
Why does he want jet skis?

So he doesn't have to swim?

Yeah, we're kinda handling their
sale for him — or I thought we were.

I've got as much right
to buy them as anyone.

Except for the fact that you don't
have any money to buy them.

Well, there's ways around that.

Doesn't matter. They're mine now.
Eh?

Yep. West house rules. If you stash
something in someone else's room and
someone else finds it, it's their.

Van, this is jet skis we're
talking about, not a bottle
of rum you flogged off your mum.

Doesn't matter. It's my
garage, so they're mine.

I don't think Jethro will
be keen on that idea.

PHONE RINGS

He can suck my cock.

I don't think he'd be
too keen on that either.

Hello.
Van?

Oh, Cheryl, how on earth are you?
It's lovely to hear—

Put Van on the phone, Eric.

It's for you.

Hey, Mum.
Why is no one answering
their phones? Dunno.

I've used all my phone favours
trying to find someone to let
me know what's going on,

and no bastard's answering.

Well, maybe they're all busy.

How's Pascalle?

I haven't talked to her.

Has she heard from Nicky?

I haven't talked to her.

Come on, Van.
You must know something.

Well, I know we got raided
last night cos of Nicky.

sh*t.

You weren't holding anything?

Not unless you count
Jethro's gay jet skis.

What? Jethro hates water.
What does he want jet skis for?

Exactly.

Trying to stash his dodgy
jet skis in my garage —

where does he get off thinking
he can get away with that?

How are you, anyway, Mum?

God, please don't let it be him.

Pascalle, I need you—

Shut up!

Details are sketchy, but police
have confirmed the sh**ting in
the Greenhithe area today

is related to yesterday's escape,

and that one man, we believe one
of the escapees, has been taken
to hospital with g*nsh*t wounds.

We'll bring you more on this
story as it comes to hand.

I have to get to the hospital.
Why?

To see if it's Nicky, of course!
Which hospital?

I don't know. The one
I went to when I got sh*t.

Or you could stay here and wait
for someone to contact you.

What if it's too late by then?

Are you a surgeon? Could
you save him if it is him?

Pascalle, the news will come to
you, OK? If you are out there
racing around,

not only will you be a menace to
traffic, but you may miss the call.

I can't just do nothing!

Well, while you're waiting, you
could think about how, if Nicky
does contact you,

you can ask him to tell Angel that
he is not going to go after her or
any of my girls

so they can get back to work.

How can you think of
that at a time like this?

Well, quite easily, actually.

No, Nicky could be bleeding to death
on an operating table right now.

Well, it's not him.
How do you know?

Well, logic. There are five
escapers, so there's an %
chance it's not him.

KNOCK AT DOOR

Oh my God, they've come to
get me to identify the body.

Officers.

Is Pascalle West here?

Is he dead? Have you k*lled him?

No, we haven't k*lled him.

You sh*t him, though, right?

No, it wasn't him.
It was one of the others.

Oh, thank God.

So why are you here, then?
I told you I don't know anything.

Do you mind if we come in?
Yes, we do.

Um, OK.

Have you and Nicky Greegan talked
about going somewhere together?
Say, holiday?

No.

He just got sent away, remember?
And I was gonna wait for him, so,
no, we hadn't planned a holiday.

Any places he may have mentioned?
Contacts overseas?

He's f*cked off, hasn't he?
He's skipped the country.

That is a possibility.

How do you know that?

Well, we can show you if you're
willing to answer a few questions.

It's Nicky Greegan,... ]

isn't it? ]

The car is stolen. We're
running the prints we found.

We'll find his, I'm sure.

Does the name Tyrone Johnson
mean anything? ]

We believe this man boarded a flight
to Sydney using the passport in that
name. Where's he headed, Pascall?

I don't know anything.

(SCOFFS) Oh, that's right, because
no way did Greegan have anything
to do with organising this (!)

It was coincidence that there was a
ticket and passport waiting for him,

just like your mother
didn't k*ll a cop (!)

West house rules?

That's what he said.

That was when we were, like, .

Van feels a precedent exists.

Sorry? Precedent? Which one
of us is the lawyer here?

You can keep that honourable
title all to yourself.

Just smack him, would you?
Tell him to grow up.

I'm not smacking Van.
He's my landlord.

How can a brother be so
cruel to his own brother?

They're not his jet skis.
