Max and Ruby!

[Birds chirping]

RUBY: Oh, Max!

Can you believe it's the first day of school, Max?!

I'm so excited! Aren't you?

Yes.

I can't wait to see my friends, and meet my new teacher.

And it's your first day of preschool.

That's a big deal!

Big... huge...

ambulance!

[Making siren sounds]

MOM: Ruby! Max!

Are you two getting ready?

Ruby, maybe you can help your brother?

Okay, Mom!

You heard Mom, we need to get ready now, Max.

That means getting out of your pajamas...

and washing the jam off your face.

What do you want to wear?

[Making siren sounds]

Hmm.

Something nice, since it's your first day.

How about... this?

Nope.

Not that.

Okay, we'll keep looking...

but you want to look nice, right?

You're going to meet lots of new friends today,

and your new teacher, Ms. Bunty!

I'll take my ambulance!

Hm, I don't think that's a very good idea, Max.

Why not?

I like my ambulance!

It's too loud for the classroom.

Now, why don't you put it away and get ready for school.

[Sighing]

But I want to take something.

You have a nice new outfit to go with your new backpack!

Oh Max, how did you get jam on it?

That will need to be cleaned off.

I'll be right back!

Tarantula! It doesn't make noise.

I'll take you to school!

Here we go!

I hope you didn't get any inside.

[Gasping]

[Giggling]

You can't take your tarantula to preschool, Max.

Why not? I like my tarantula!

It might be too scary for your new classmates.

But I guess if you keep it in your backpack.

MOM: Max! Ruby!

It's almost time to leave for school!

Okay, Mom!..

Come on, we need to get ready!

Time to wash your face!

MAX: Yup!

[Laughing]

Time to rinse!

All done!

Now time to brush your teeth.

[Gargling]

[Spitting]

Ta-da!

All you need now is a big smile,

and you'll be ready to make lots of new friends!

Smile?

I know!

Max? Where are you going? You have to get dressed!

Max?

Have you seen Max?

No, not since breakfast.

Oh, pasta salad for lunch today! Mmmm!

Yes, it's almost ready...

Oh you look nice in your new outfit, Ruby.

Thanks, Dad.

Are you all set for school?

Yes!

There. All done!

I wonder where Max is.

Where is it?

Not there...

Max? Max?

Nope!

In here?

Nope.

Max? You in here?

It's almost time to go.

We don't want to be late.

Oh, Maaa-aaax.

I know!

My vampire teeth!

RUBY: Maaa-aaax? Where are you?

[Max giggling]

There you are!

You need to get dressed for school.

Max, you need to leave your vampire teeth at home.

You can't wear them to school.

Why not?

Vampire teeth are scary.

You don't want to scare away your new friends.

Besides, you should just be yourself!

[Giggling]

Okay, time to go! Don't forget your backpack!

It's a big day!

Do you both have your lunches?

Yes!

Mm-hmm!

Thanks for helping to get Max ready this morning!

You're welcome, Mom.

Have a good day, you two!

We will! Bye!

Have fun!

Hi Mrs. Huffington!

Hello, Max. Hello, Ruby. First day of school?

Yes!

[Giggling]

Have fun, you two!

Thanks, Mrs. Huffington! Bye!

Hi Rosalinda!

It'll be just fine. You'll see!

Oh, hello.

Welcome to your first day of preschool. Come in.

Have a good day, Max!

You're sure to make lots of new friends.

Remember, just be yourself!

Please come in and find a spot on the carpet.

I'm Ms. Bunty, your teacher.

Hi, I'm Lily!

I'm Winston.

[Gasping]

You're a vampire!

Yup!

[Laughing]

Let me guess! You must be... Max?

Who else would like to say hello?

Hi Max! I like your teeth.

Yeah, they're funny!

I really like vampires!

Me too!

[Laughing]

I just know you're all going to become great friends.

I painted my house. What do you think?

I like it.

What did you paint?

A vampire!

[Laughing]

Funny.

Hmm.

[Laughing]

I hope you've enjoyed your first day as much as I have!

And I look forward to seeing you all again tomorrow.

Bye, Ms. Bunty!

See you tomorrow, Max!

Bye!

Let's play at recess again, okay?

Okay!

Wow!

It looks like you've made a lot of new friends, Max!

Bye Vampire Max!

Oh, I see. You made a lot of new friends by being--

A vampire!

And by being yourself, Max!

There.

This will be perfect for our extra-special night.

Looks good, Ruby!

Your cake is finished baking,

but don't decorate it until it's cooled down, okay?

I won't, Mom.

Hi!

Max, you look like you're going to bed early.

I'm staying up with Grandma. It's our sleepover.

I can't wait for Grandma to get here.

Me too.

[Sniffing]

Mmm. I smell something delicious!

What's cooking, Ruby?

That's my cocoa crumble cake.

I made it for Grandma's Story Time Sleepover.

Wow. That will make your night with Grandma extra special.

Yes. It's going to be a Story Time Sleepover Extravaganza!

Instead of going out to dance the night away,

maybe Mom and I should stay and join in the fun.

And the cocoa crumble cake.

Oh no, you don't. Come on, dear.

Time to put on our dancing shoes.

Don't worry, Dad. I'll save you a piece.

[Sniffing]

Mmm. My cocoa crumble cake smells yummy,

but it's not cool yet.

Fancy napkins are just what's needed

for a Story Time Sleepover.

Everything has to be extra perfect!

These are fit for a queen. Queen Grandma!

[Giggling]

Max!

It's a tent!

Yes, I can see that.

But why do you have a tent in the middle of the room?

For an indoor camp out.

Sorry, Max.

But I've got our Story Time Sleepover with Grandma

all planned.

This just isn't the right time for an indoor camp out.

So please put those chairs back in the dining room.

Okay.

We can have an indoor camp out another time.

And then I'll help you build an even better one.

Hmmm. A better tent?

My cocoa crumble cake is cooled off and ready to decorate.

Mmm! Smells good!

And it's going to taste even better!

Did you put away those chairs?

Yes, I did.

Thanks, Max.

Uh-uh. We can't eat it yet.

I have to decorate it first.

Besides, it's for later at our Story Time Sleepover.

Now what shall I decorate my cake with?

Blue Slime Dribblers.

Or Gummy Spiders.

Not for a cocoa crumble cake.

Aww.

Don't worry, I'll find something.

It'll be perfect.

How about pink icing with sprinkles?

RUBY: Or I could put little flowers on top.

Or maybe... Hmm... So many possibilities!

What do you think, Max?

Max?

I know.

I'll get an idea from one of my cake decorating books.

[Gasping]

Max.

Knock, knock...

MAX: Who's there?

It's your big sister, Ruby. Who's in there?

Max! I made a better tent!

Max, We're not having an indoor camp out. Remember?

I've made the perfect place for our Story Time Sleepover.

I'm sorry, but this box doesn't fit in.

It's too, well, boxy.

Too boxy?

Yes.

Thanks for understanding, Max.

Now I have to go find my cake decorating book.

Hmm, still looks like a box.

I need something elegant.

Thank you, Max.

You fold up the box.

I'll be in the kitchen if you need me.

Okay.

[Humming]

My cocoa crumble cake is going to be perfect.

With icing like fresh snow

and decorated with the last of the berries from the garden.

In fact, I think this is going to be one of my best cakes ever!

I just know Grandma will love it.

We're going to have such a good time with Grandma tonight.

Mmm... Almost ready.

Lots of icing.

That's the way everyone likes it.

Can I have these?

Sure, Max.

Oh wait. Now my hands are all messy.

I need something to wipe them with.

Here.

Thanks, Max.

You're welcome.

Little brothers are funny.

All clean. Now for the berries.

They need to be placed on the cake just so.

Two berries for the cake.

And one berry for the baker!

Mmmm. Delicious!

Two berries for the cake.

And one berry for the baker!

[Giggling]

Back to work.

There.

Beautiful!

And just in time.

Grandma will be here any minute!

Max, wait till you see the--

[Gasping]

Ta-da!

Indoor camp out!

What do you think?

Oh, Max. Your indoor camp out is very nice.

But I've been trying to make everything perfect

for our special Story Time Sleepover with Grandma.

Now we have to hurry to make it neat and tidy again

before she gets here!

[Doorbell ringing]

It's too late! Grandma's here!

Yay! Grandma's here!

Hello Ruby!

Hello Grandma.

Hello Max!

Hi Grandma!

I can't wait for our sleepover to begin.

[Sighing]

I made a tent!

What a great idea for a Story Time Sleepover!

I even brought the perfect book to read around the "campfire."

Yay!

But Grandma,

I was planning a Story Time Sleepover Extravaganza...

[Sniffing]

Ooh, so you made your special cocoa crumble cake?

Yes, see?

It's so beautifully decorated!

That certainly makes our sleepover

an extravaganza, Ruby.

DAD: I'll say!

I'm ready to dance, dance, dance--

Wow, look at that cake!

And that tent!

Have a wonderful time tonight with Grandma, you two.

We will--

at our indoor camp out story time sleepover extravaganza!

GRANDMA: After some delicious cocoa crumble cake,

the stars came out, twinkling in the sky,

looking down on a campfire right beside a perfect--

--Tent!

Yes, Max, a tent.

[All giggling]
