CHILDREN: Max and Ruby!

Ugh. How about here, Louise?

Perfect.

Um, where's the tablecloth, Ruby?

I left it in the wagon. I'll be right back.

[Humming]

Got it.

I hope Can't Sit Up Slug likes his surprise birthday party.

I'm sure he will.

[Giggling]

Can't Sit Up Slug isn't really one to complain.

MAX: Roar!

Hi, Stegosaurus spiky-tail.

[span tts:fontStyle="italic"][Toy roaring metallically][/span]

Roar!

Look out, Tyrannosaurus rex, king of the dinosaurs.

[span tts:fontStyle="italic"][Toy roaring metallically][/span]

Hi, Brontosaurus.

Long neck.

Whoa!

They found dinosaur bones.

I'm Dino Hunter Max.

There. Almost done.

Oh, Hi, Max.

It's Can't Sit Up Slug's birthday today,

so we're throwing a party.

A special party, where we're going to dress up

in our nicest jewellery and have snacks.

And dancing to music.

[Humming]

What's that, Mrs. Quack?

Why, yes, Grandma is making a special birthday surprise

for Can't Sit Up Slug.

She's bringing it by later.

Ooh, I love surprises. Is it cake?

No, it's going to be something extra special.

Won't you join us, Max?

Uh-uh. I'm digging for something.

What kind of something?

Dinosaur bones. I'm Dino Hunter Max.

Dino Hunter Max, hmm?

[Giggling] Well, okay.

Good luck with your digging.

Your brother is going to miss a good party.

He sure is, but that's okay. We have lots of other guests.

Don't we, Polly Pig?

We can always invite Max again later, for cake?

[Giggling] Not cake.

Knowing Grandma, the surprise will be even better than that.

Dino Hunter Max.

Oh, oh! Is it a Stegosaurus?

[Object clinking against shovel]

Nope.

Have to keep hunting.

RUBY: Now, now, Teddy Bear.

we all need to look our best for the party.

Can't Sit Up Slug will be here soon.

Did you notice?

I'm wearing my nicest jewellery.

Yes, I love your necklace. It's so sparkly.

And I love your tiara.

Why, thank you.

Huh?

Bye, worm.

[Something clinking]

Maybe this time I'll find a--

Ugh.

RUBY:Oh, Max?

What are you doing?

Digging for dinosaur bones.

Well, you're getting dirt on our guests.

Oh. Sorry.

We can brush it off,

but maybe you should dig someplace else.

Okay.

Hmm. Nothing in here.

Hey, Robot, come with me.

You can help me hunt for dinosaurs.

Can't Sit Up Slug, do you know what special day it is?

No, not Valentine's Day; it's your birthday.

BOTH: Surprise!

We're throwing you a party.

A special party with all of your friends.

Let's go.

This is hard.

MAX: Beep-boop.

Where'd that come from?

BOTH: Max.

Max?

Don't worry, Can't Sit Up Slug. She'll be right back, I promise.

Then we'll get your party started.

Max, please be careful.

You're getting dirt on our table.

We want to keep things nice and clean for the party.

But I'm digging for bones.

Maybe you can dig for dinosaur bones over there,

away from our party? Please?

Okay.

You stay here and dig and I'll try over there.

Thank you, Dino Max.

[Gasping] Stegosaurus?

Nope.

Vroom!

Dino claw?

Aw.

[Hinge squeaking]

I have to keep hunting.

[span tts:fontStyle="italic"][Dance-band music playing][/span]

I hope you're having a wonderful time.

What's that?

You're having the best birthday ever?

I'm so glad.

And just wait: there's going to be a surprise later.

And it isn't a cake.

[Giggling]

Why, Polly, you're an excellent dancer.

[Gasping] Again?

I thought you told Max to be careful.

I did.

[Sighing] I'll be right back.

Please, Max. You have to dig somewhere else.

Hmm.

I know the perfect place.

You do?

Yes. Come on.

Here you go.

You'll have all sorts of fun digging in the sandbox.

No dinosaurs.

Oh, no!

This is terrible.

My necklace. It's gone.

Do you see it anywhere?

No, but don't worry. I'm sure we'll find it.

Maybe it fell off while we were dancing.

Will you help me look?

Of course.

We'll be right back.

I don't see it. Do you?

It's my favourite necklace. What if we don't find it?

It must be here somewhere.

What's wrong?

Louise lost her necklace. You haven't seen it, have you?

Nope.Sorry.

Hmm.

Did you find it, Louise?

No, and I don't understand.

Necklaces don't just disappear.

[Something clinking]

Oh, I bet I found a Stegosaurus!

Oh. No dinosaur bone.

Max, you did it! You found it.

My necklace.Phew.

Thank you.

[Sighing]

Good digging, Max.

Thanks again for finding my necklace, Max.

[Dejectedly] You're welcome.

Wish I found a dinosaur.

Just wait till Grandma gets here.

I'm sure you'll like her surprise, Max.

Hello!

So, what do you think of your special--

Dinosaur!

[Giggling]

Yes.

One candy-filled dinosaur piñata

for Can't Sit Up Slug's birthday.

Everybody knows that dinosaurs and candy are his favourite.

Thanks, Grandma.

Can't Sit Up Slug loves it.

And I think Max does, too.

So, this is the surprise. What fun!

Yes!

Who wants to go first?

[Giggling] This way, Max.

Give it a good whack.

Yes, you get to go first, because you're --

Dino Hunter Max.

Yeah!

[Rain pattering]

I'm glad you could come over today, Louise.

Me too, Ruby.

It's raining, so it's the perfect day to stay inside

and work on our project.

It's going to be great.

Mr. Esteves will be so pleased.

Yes.

We learned about the planets last year.

Remember the mobile we made?

Sure, but this year, our D poster of the solar system

will be even better.

Do you have all the paints we need?

Yes, and a big board for our poster.

This is going to be fun.

Come on.

[Rain pattering]

What can we do?

Want to ride my scooter?

Through puddles?

Oh.

I know! Let's play soccer.

In the rain?

[Sighing] No.

We could draw with sidewalk chalk, but--

It's raining.

All the planets travel around the Sun.

I bet you can't name them all, Ruby.

Bet I can.

Okay. No peeking.

The closest planet to the Sun is Mercury.

Venus, then Earth--

My favourite planet.

[Giggling] Of course.

Then Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune

and Pluto, the dwarf planet.

Do I have them in the right order?

Let's see.

Mercury, Venus,

Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn,

Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. You did it, Ruby!

I've been practising.

Okay, so we'll need paint and brushes and a pencil,

and craft balls for our planets.

They'll have to be different sizes, big ones and small ones,

just like the planets.

Hi, Max. Hi, Lily.

Hi.

We're working on a school project.

What are you two doing?

Nothing.

It's raining.

What about all your toys, Max? Or a game?

Okay, we'll need red paint for Mars,

blue and green for Earth.

We can use blue for Neptune, too,

and maybe purple for Pluto.

That's a good start.

Let's practise.

But it's raining out.

That's okay.

We'll use this.

Laundry?

No, a basket for basketball.

Yay!

Come on.

[Chair scraping on floor]

There.

Now we have a basket for our all-star--

Basketball team.

Yay! Yes.

Did you know Jupiter is the giant of the solar system?

Of course.

It's the biggest planet and it's fifth from the Sun.

Right.

[Basketball bouncing on floor]

Oh, Max?

Dad said we can't play basketball in the house.

Remember, Max?

Yes, Ruby.

But it's raining out. What can we do?

Find another indoor game.

[Gasping] I know.

Wait for me.

Nope. No good.

Nope.

Hmm. Not that.

What are you looking for, Max?

Indoor balls for our game.

[Chuckling] Ooh, squishy.

[Laughing]

I'll get it.

Got it.

Ready?

Ready.

Three, two, one--

BOTH: Dodgeball!

I'm going to get you.

Woo!

Woo!Woo-woo.

Missed me. Yeah!

[Random piano notes sounding]

[Laughing] Nice try.

Missed me.

Ugh! That was close.

Whoa!

[Giggling] I'm going to get you.

[Laughing]

Bam!

Almost got you. Missedagain.

Watch out!

Oh, I can't concentrate on what I'm doing

with Max and Lily shouting.

Me, neither.

MAX & LILY: Yay!

I'll be right back.

[Giggling]

Oh! Max, you're too loud.

Louise and I can't pay attention to what we're doing.

Maybe you and Lily can find something quiet to do

for a little while, until Louise and I are finished our project.

Okay.

Thank you, Max. Thanks, Lily.

Come on.

This is going to be fun.

Woo-hoo!

What do you think?

Great. Let's try it.

Yes.

Space ball ready to launch

in three,

two, one.

Blast off!

[span tts:fontStyle="italic"][Trumpeting][/span]

[span tts:fontStyle="italic"]Bork, bork.[/span]

Woo-hoo! Yay!

Bouncy ball.

Again.

Ready?

Yes.

Space ball ready to launch

in three, two, one.

BOTH: Blast off!

[span tts:fontStyle="italic"][Trumpeting][/span]

Huh?

Whoa.

Max.

Oh, Max?

I think you've lost something.

Our ball.

Yes, Max.

Can you be more careful?

Your ball nearly knocked over our paint.

Okay.

Sorry. It got away from us.

[Chuckling] I'll say.

Maybe you can play upstairs with your ball

so you won't disturb us while we're working.

Let's go.

What do you think of Earth?

I love it. It's still my favourite planet.

Mine, too.

How do we play this game?

We take turns trying to get the balls into the bug.

Then the first person to get five in wins, right?

Right.

I'll go first.

Oh, missed.

My turn.

Aw.

My turn.

[Bug's legs clicking]

Yes! Got one.

Seven, eight planets.

Plus Pluto, the dwarf planet. But we're short one ball.

I don't believe it.

How could we forget the Sun?

We can't create the solar system without a sun.

What are we going to do?

My turn.

I'll get it.

Come back, bouncy ball.

LILY: Where'd it go?

Into the living room.

RUBY: Oh, no.

[Ruby and Louise gasping]

LOUISE: Huh?

The dining room.

Uh-oh.

LOUISE: Is Mars okay?

It'll need a touch more paint, but yes, it's okay.

Thank goodness. One problem is enough.

You need to be more careful, Max.

Your ball knocked over some paint, spilling it onto Pluto,

and now it's in the middle of our--

Solar system.

[Gasping] Max!

I know. Be careful.

RUBY: No, look.

Your yellow ball is just the right size

and colour to be our sun.

You're right, Ruby. Problem solved.

Can we please borrow your--

Bouncy ball?

Yes. It'll make a terrific sun.

Sure.

Yay! You saved the day, Max.

You mean he saved the solar system.

Way to go, Max.

It's all thanks to your--

Bouncy ball.
