- "The Midnight Mile"!

- Nighttime in Axle City.

The moon is out, the stars are twinkling,

and the streets are lit up for action!

Welcome to the race that's so bright,

we're doing it at night.

It's The Midnight Mile!

- Whoo! Whoo-hoo-hoo-hoo! Yeah!

- [snoring]

- Gus, wake up, the race is starting.

- The race is starting?

both: The race is starting!

- Now, let's meet your Midnight Mile racers.

Stripes!

- Rawr! - Starla!

- Yee-haw! - Zeg!

- Pick me! - Darington!

- Whoo-hoo! - Watts!

- All right! - Crusher!

- Ugh!

- And Blaze!

- Oh, yeah!

[cheers and applause]

- [laughs] - Aw, thanks, everybody!

- Can you believe this, y'all? A race at night!

- Rawr! This is so exciting!

- It not bedtime, it race time!

[laughter]

- Ooh! I wonder what we'll get if we win!

- You may be wondering, what will you get if you win?

- Dude, that's exactly what I was wondering!

- Well, the first racer to cross the finish line

wins the ultimate nighttime prize:

the glow-in-the-dark trophy!

[cheers and applause]

- Glowy!

- That's amazing!

- It sure would be cool to win a trophy like that.

- Ha! Too bad for you that only one monster machine

can win that trophy,

and everyone knows it's gonna be me, me, me.

[laughs]

[banana whistles] Oh! Ah!

[bugle blaring]

- Come on, everyone.

Let's get racing! - Rawr!

- Let's do it! - Yeah!

- Whoo-hoo! - Zeg!

- Rawr!

[electricity crackles]

[engines revving, tires squealing]

- Get ready.

The Midnight Mile race is starting in five seconds.

- Count down with me! Start at five.

Five! Four! Three!

Two! One!

all: Go!

[all cheering]

[upbeat rock music]

- ♪ Burn rubber, burn, burn rubber ♪

Let's go, let's go, let's go

- ♪ Burn rubber, burn, burn rubber ♪

Let's go, let's go, let's go

♪ We're on our way, accelerate ♪

♪ We're gaining speed

♪ Burn rubber, burn, burn rubber ♪

- Whoo-hoo-hoo! - Oh...

I can't let Blaze get ahead of me.

I gotta slow him down. But how?

[giggles] He'll never finish the race

once I wake up those sleeping crabs.

Hey, little crabs.

Rise and shine!

[pincers clicking]

[laughs]

Looks like Blaze is about to be in a real... pinch!

[laughs]

- Look out, Blaze! Pinching crabs!

- [shudders] - Let's get out of here!

- Whoa!



Whoa!

Whew!

[gasps]

- Those crabs sure woke up crabby.

I wonder how we're gonna get past them.

- Hey, I've got an idea.

Let's make a snack for the crabs.

- Yeah! They can't pinch us if they're too busy eating.

- Here, we can make 'em popcorn with this popcorn machine.

Let's turn it on.

- Huh, nothing's happening. - I see the problem.

We just have to fix that circuit

to get it working again.

- Yeah! A circuit is what moves electricity through a machine

to make it work.

A circuit starts with a power source, like a battery.

Electricity from the battery goes through a conductor

to a machine,

then through another conductor back to the battery.

Now the electricity can move in a loop

and it's giving the machine power.

It's a circuit!

- Aha! I see what's wrong with the circuit

on this popcorn machine.

It's missing a conductor piece.

So, to fix it,

let's find a piece that's long and straight.

- There! I see some pieces we could use.

- Which of these pieces is long and straight?

This one! Yeah!

[grunts]

[electricity crackling]

[power whirring]

Yeah! It's working! We fixed the circuit.

- Now the electricity's moving around

and it's powering the machine.

[kernels popping]

[crabs vocalizing]

- Yummy, yum, yum, yum!

[crabs laughing]

- Those crabs sure like popcorn!

Watch out, Blaze! More pinching crabs!

- Pinch! - Pinch, pinch, pinch.

- Whoa!

- Quick, we need to feed them a snack.

- Hmm. What about cotton candy from this cotton candy machine?

- Yeah! Help us fix the circuit to get it working again.

This circuit is missing a conductor piece

that's short and straight.

- Huh! Which of these pieces is short and straight?

This one, yeah!

[electricity crackling]

- We did it!

The machine is making cotton candy again!

- Whoo-hoo! [laughing]

- See ya later, crabs!

Look, there's the way out.

- But to get there, we'll have to feed

one last snack to these crabs.

- Here, let's fix the circuit on this sandwich machine.

This circuit is missing a piece that's long and curved.

Which of these pieces is long and curved?

That one, yeah!

[electricity crackling]

[power whirring]

[sandwiches whistling]

[crabs laughing]

- They love sandwiches!

- Happy snacking, crabs!

- Bye!

- [giggles] This is so great!

I can't wait to win that glow-in-the-dark trophy and--

- ♪ La, la, la - Pickle?

What are you doing in a bed?

- It's nighttime, silly.

That means it's time for sleep.

[yawns] Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh!

Maybe you can read me this bedtime story!

- A bedtime story?

No way, Pickle. I'm in the middle of a race.

- Okay, then. I'll just read it to myself.

It's called "Crusher's Big Race."

[clears throat]

Once upon a time, Crusher was in a big race,

and he cheated, and he cheated, and cheated,

and then he drove into a big mud puddle.

The end!

- Ha! That would never happen.

I mean, why would I drive into a big...

mud puddle! [grunts]

Yuck!

- Rawr! - Yee-haw!

- Oh, no!

Zeg, Stripes, and Starla are right behind me!



But they'll never catch me if I turn off all the power

in this carnival.

[giggles]

This ought to leave those other racers in the dark!

[laughs]



- Huh. That's strange.

- Somebody turned off all the power in this carnival.

- The lights are turning off, the rides are stopping,

and those prizes are falling.

- Uh-oh! - Whoa!

- [grunts] We can't get out! Help!

- Huh. That's strange.

- Somebody turned off all the power in this carnival.

- The lights are turning off, the rides are stopping,

and those prizes are falling.

- Uh-oh! - Whoa!

- [grunts] We can't get out! Help!

- Blaze!

- Blaze, listen!

It sounds like our friends are in trouble.

- Help! - Gaskets!

But it's really dark in this carnival.

To find our friends,

we're gonna need light, and a lot of it.

- I know, let's make a spotlight.

Spotlights are perfect for finding things in the dark.

- Yeah! Help build the parts to turn me into a spotlight.

First, we need a battery to give the spotlight electricity.

To make the battery, say, "Battery."

Battery!

Now, we need a powerful light bulb to shine a beam of light

when the electricity goes through it.

To make the light bulb, say, "Light bulb."

Light bulb!

Last, we need conductors

to move the electricity around in a circuit.

To make the conductors, say, "Conductors."

Conductors!

Oh, yeah!

I'm a spotlight monster machine!

- All right!

Now, let's power up this spotlight!

- Look, the electricity's moving around the circuit

and powering our spotlight.

- Help! - That sounds like Stripes!

Help us look for him in that pile of prizes.

When you see Stripes, say, "Stripes."



Stripes!

- Rawr! Rawr!

- Hang on, Stripes.

- Ah-ha-ha-ha!

Whew! Thanks, Blaze.

- Heya, fellers, over here!

- That sounds like Starla.

- Hang on, Starla, we'll find you!

Look carefully.

When you see Starla, say, "Starla."



Starla!

- Well, howdy, y'all!

Yahoo!

- Hey-hey! - All right!

- Shoo-wee! Thanks for lending a hand.

- Yoo-hoo! Don't forget about Zeg!

- It sounds like Zeg's stuck over there!

- Help us look for him.

When you see Zeg, say, "Zeg."



Zeg!

- [grunting]

We gotcha, Zeg.



[all grunt]

- Yee-hee-hee!

- Yee-haw!

- You save Zeg!

Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you!

- You're welcome, Zeg.

- And now that we're not stuck anymore,

we can get back to racing.

- Hang on, fellers.

Just one thing we gotta do first:

turn the power back on.

[power whirring]

Yahoo!

- Whoo-hoo! - All right!

- This way, friends.

Glow-in-the-dark trophy, here we come!

- Hoo-hoo-hoo! - Yee-haw!

- ♪ Circuits moving, electricity ♪

♪ Around and around to power up machines ♪

- ♪ Start it headin' with a power source ♪

- ♪ Like a battery

- ♪ Make a loop that transports ♪

♪ Electricity

♪ Round and round, go, electrodes, go ♪

♪ Flip the switch, here we go! ♪

♪ Round and round, round and round ♪

♪ The circuit's how you work it ♪

♪ Power up, power up

♪ Whoa-ho!

♪ Circuits moving, electricity ♪

♪ It goes around and around to power up machines ♪

- ♪ Hey! - ♪ Circuits moving

[all laughing]

- [giggles]

I'm in first place.

Oh, that glow-in-the-dark trophy's as good as mine!

- ♪ La, la, la, la, la

- Pickle, how come you're still in that bed?

- [yawns]

You know, just getting ready for a good night's sleep.

I got my pillow, my stuffed animal,

and of course, my favorite bedtime story.

- Ugh, it's not the same story as last time, is it?

- Of course it's not. It's a totally different story.

Here, listen.

Once upon a time, Crusher was racing so fast.

He was racing and racing and racing,

until he drove into a pile of pies!

The end.

- Pfft. Some story.

I'd never drive into a pile of pies.

Not ever, ever, ever! [yells]

Yuck.

- Whoo-hoo! - Yeah!

- Wait a second.

That sounds like... Darington and Watts?

- Whoo-hoo! - [laughs]

- Oh! I can't let them b*at me.

I need pillow-fighting robots!

[robots beep-booping]

- Watts, Darington, look out!

- Whoa!

- Whoa!

- Darington, Watts, Gabby!

- What happened? - [groans] I don't know.

- We were driving along, when all of a sudden, wham!

A giant pillow came out of nowhere.

- Whoa! - Yeah, just like that! Oh, no!

- Pillow-fightin' robots!

- Rawr! Let's get outta here!

- Whoa! - Ah!

- Whoa!

- Whoa! Whoa!

- Doop-doop! Deep! Doop-doop! Doop!

- Whoa! - Whoa, whoa! Whoa!

- Phew. - Whew.

- Ooh! - Whoa!

- Whoa! - Whoa!

- Whoa! Whoa!

Aw, man.

I wish there was some way

to turn off those pillow-fighting robots.

- Whoa! Whoa!

- Hey, maybe there is a way.

Look! We can turn off the robots with a switch.

- Yeah! Check it out!

When you flip a switch, it makes an empty space

in the machine's circuit, and the machine turns off

because the electricity can't go all the way around.

- Doop! Deep! Doop-doo!

- Ah! - Whoa!

We'd better find something to flip that robot's switch,

and fast!

- Ooh, oh, oh, I know! Let's use this! A slingshot!

- Yeah! - [grunts] Ready to launch!

- If we launch it now, the ball will go here.

Will that hit the robot's switch?

No. It won't go far enough.

- Beep! Boop-boop! Boop!

Whoa!

- Quick. Let's try again.

- [grunts]

- If we launch it now, the ball will go here.

Will that hit the robot's switch?

Yeah!

- Slingshot away!

- Yeah! - All right!

- Ah! - Whoa!

- Boop-beep-boop! Doop-doop-doo!

- Hoppin' hubcaps! - So many pillows!

- Come on, let's go help Zeg and Starla.

both: Whoa!

- Here, guys! Grab onto this slingshot!

- You betcha. - [grunts]

- If we launch the ball now, it'll go here.

Will that hit the robot's switch?

Yes!

- Here goes nothin'!

- Yeah! - All right!

- Nighty-night, robot.

- Huh, where do you reckon that last robot went?



- Hang on, guys. We're coming!



Whoa! Quick, grab the slingshot!

- [grunts]

- If we let go now, the ball will land here.

Will that hit the robot's switch?

No! It's too far.



all: Whoa!

- Quick, let's try again!

- If we let go now, the ball will land here.

Will that hit the robot's switch?

Yeah!

- Sweet dreams, robot!

- Whoo-hoo-hoo!

- Oh, yeah! - We did it!

- We turned off all the pillow-fighting robots!

- Come on, everyone! This way to the finish line!

[all cheering]

[upbeat rock music]



- [laughs]

There it is! The finish line!

I'm gonna win the Midnight Mile!

[all cheering]

Oh, no, no, no!

I can't let Blaze and the other racers

catch up now.

I need one last cheat.

Uh, something like... aha!

This switch to raise the drawbridge!

- Watch out! The drawbridge is going up!

all: Whoa!

- [laughs] Looks like I'm gonna win the Midnight Mile now!

- Oh, no!

- The only way to get to the finish line is to jump across!

- [gulps] But that's really far!

- Hey, we can do it, Monster Machines!

We just need to go super fast and jump with blazing speed!



- All right! - Whoo-hoo!

- To give me and my friends blazing speed,

say, "Let's blaze!"

all: Let's blaze!

- Yoo-hoo-hoo-hoo!

- Rawr! Hee-hee! - Yeah!



- Hoo-hoo! I'm about to win!

I'm about to-- - Whoo-hoo!

Ah! [moans]

- Yeah! - Whoo!

- We did it! We won!

- That was some finish!

- Whoo-hoo! - Yeah!

- And now, for the winners of the Midnight Mile,

it's... the glow-in-the-dark trophy!

- Oh! - Ooh!

- Wow! I'll be!

- Whoa, what's it doing?

- The trophy's glowing red, just like you, Blaze!

- Wow! - Rawr!

And now it's orange like me!

- Ooh, green!

- Pink and yellow, just like you, Watts!

- Wow! Blue! - Hey, purple!

Shucks, that's my color.

- Well, when a nighttime race is this much fun,

why not a trophy for everyone!

[cheers and applause]

- Aww!

I wanted that glow-in-the-dark trophy, but no...

they had to win it fair and square!

- Aww, don't worry, Crusher.

You'll feel better after a good night's sleep.

Here, I'll read you a bedtime story.

- Oh, no.

Not another bedtime story about me.

- Don't be silly, Crusher, this story is not about you!

It's about me!

[clears throat] Once upon a time,

Pickle was driving down the street,

when he saw a big pool of pudding.

Pickle did not crash into it, but Crusher did!

The end!

- Crusher did?

Uh-oh. Ah!

[groans] Yuck.
