our heroes arrive at Hamlin Island.

As luck would have it, just across the bridge

there's a ferry line that runs to Ash's hometown of Pallet.

I don't know about you guys, but I can't wait to get back

for one of my mom's special

deep-dish chilidog and pizza potpies!

I can't wait to get over to Pallet Town either, Ash.

And I bet Professor Oak can't wait

till we finally bring him that GS Ball!

From what I can see, there are no people over there.

That's funny, the place looks deserted.

[DISMISSIVE]

Misty, be careful.

I got a feeling we're not alone.

and those look badder than Voltorb!

POKEDEX Electrode, the evolved form of Voltorb.

Highly concentrated electric energy

causes this Pokémon to explode unpredictably.

Also known as The b*mb Ball.

They're even scarier

than the Voltorb are.

[WORRIED]

Don't worry, Misty

just don't sneeze or move around or even breathe.

Misty, I think we better get away from these Electrode

before they blow!

They're Diglett!

POKEDEX Diglett, the mole Pokémon.

Diglett love to create underground tunnel systems.

Diglett, dig those Electrode underground.

ELECTRODE [SURPRISED]

That was a close one.

It's not safe, follow me.

[PLAYFUL]

Good thing for us you showed up when you did!

Yeah, you sure did save the day!

Sir, maybe you could tell us where everybody disappeared to?

How come this island has so many Electrode and so few people?

This island used to be filled with visitors

and tourists from all over the world.

PONCHO But a few years ago, an inventor started raising

Voltorb as part of an experiment to get Pokémon

to generate electric power.

One day, the Voltorb got loose from the lab

and they've been multiplying ever since.

Conditions must've been just about perfect for them

because most of the Voltorb evolved into Electrode.

Meanwhile, they kept right on multiplying

until they pretty much took over the whole island.

There were more and more Electrode

and less and less space.

So, they started getting pretty ornery and irritated.

They got so stressed out, they started blowing up!

[explosions]

And that's when everybody cleared off the island.

What about the ferry to Pallet Town?

I'm afraid it's not running, the island's too dangerous.

[sighs]

[CONCERNED]

But if this island's as dangerous

as you say it is how come you're on it, sir?

Guess all the houses and stores are empty.

Nobody around to catch a thief.

That's not nice, apologize!

I'm no thief, son, Poncho's my name.

The mayor here hired me, I'm a Diglett rancher.

[FRIENDLY]

ASH/MISTY/TRACEY Diglett Rancher?

[SURPRISED]

PONCHO Over on the big island

there's some prairie land

set off by itself that's wide open.

So, I trained my Diglett to dig under the Electrode

guide them through the underground tunnels

they make all the way over to that prairie.

The Electrode roam around free

not jammed together like they are here.

They're relaxed, they're happy

and they stopped blowing up.

Some folks think only way to deal with Electrode

is to explode them, but I like my way better.

I bet the Electrode like your way better too!

Well, son, so far, they like it fine.

And once they're out on the prairie

all the islanders can come back home.

They must be glad you're here!

Truth is a lot of the islanders are complaining

my way takes too long and costs too much.

[phone ringing]

Hmm?

I got it! Hello?

Mr. Poncho, it's for you.

Somebody from the mayor's office needs you.

Uh, here we go again.

I just brought the second bunch of Electrode over.

I should have the third bunch over.. What?

But I just.. That's your choice.

and I'm officially off the job.

All I needed was a few more days

and the Electrode would have been safe and sound.

so they'll blow themselves up all at once.

That's wrong! They shouldn't hurt all those Electrode

just because they think they're in the way, that isn't fair!

so it's time for Mr. Molasses to hit the trail!

Why would Team Rocket want to help out and move the Electrode?

For purely selfish reasons, of course.

Not only do we get paid handsomely for our efforts

but we're going to keep all the Electrode we clear out!

Yeah! And they used to say "Crime doesn't pay!"

Now, let's get them popping mad.

But I don't see what good it does to anybody

if they blow up the Electrode!

It's good for those three, exploding tires them out

and lowers the Electrode's energy to the bare minimum

so they can't help but get captured.

See how easy they're all getting scooped up?

Now they can't explode and defend themselves.

At least not until their power gets regenerated.

I wish we could do something to help.

but Team Rocket are the ones the mayor has hired to do the job.

there's nothing we can do to stop them!

Those Electrode are hotter than a Charizard's breath in July

and it looks to me like they're ready to blow up

real good this time.

I think we've done enough gabbing

now let's do some Electrode grabbing!

If we don't stop them

Team Rocket's going to roll over Togepi!

Those three are a disgrace

to the whole Electrode wrangling profession.

POKEDEX Dugtrio. Formed when three Diglett combine.

This Pokémon is able to tunnel

deep beneath the earth's surface.

[OUTRAGED]

That's right, but we still got some work to do.

Well, we've finally hit bottom.

We've sunk pretty low, but never this far.

I'm kind of enjoying this!

Well, as you can see the Electrode

are a lot happier out here.

They're not cooped up, so they hardly ever blow up.

This place is the perfect home for them!

'wants to stay with its old friends, Togepi.'

[URGENT]

Togepi, sometimes our friends have to say goodbye

but when they're gone you can still be friends, in your heart!

Well, the bridge is fixed and the island's back to normal.
