[Cadence] All right. Let's
see what's on tap for today.

Oh! Ah! Lucky girl.

Turkey and cheese, cucumbers,
pretzels and grapes.

Mom? Can I have
a cream cheese

and strawberry jelly
sandwich instead?

Ummm...

You mean, Saturday's
'weekend celebration'

cream cheese and
jelly sandwich?

That's the one.

Sure. Yeah.

I can just switch the
two, so you'll just have

Saturday's lunch today and
today's lunch on Saturday.

And I really don't need
to re‐label the bag

because that
would be crazy.

Thank you Mommy!
You're the bestest.

EVENT: CHRISTMAS PLAY
PARENT VOLUNTEER MEETING

Oh! We got to
get a move on.

I need to get to the school
for the first meeting for

the Christmas play,
before I head to work.

Time to organize
and prioritize.

Mom, I think
you'll do great.

You look like the most
beautiful elf mommy ever.

A beautiful
elf mommy?

I'll take it!

This year our theme
is the Elf Express:

The North Pole
Gift Train.

And we're focusing on
the magic of community

during this
holiday season.

On behalf of Redbird
Falls Elementary

we are so grateful to you
parents for volunteering.

[Henry]
Excuse me, sorry.

Sorry. So sorry I'm late.

It's okay.

We've divided you up into
pairs according to skill sets

in order to achieve the
best results possible

on this short timeline.

Oh, she means business.

I'm trying to...

All right. Sorry.

Bonnie and Eric,
you're doing costumes.

Bailey and Jeff, you're on
ticket sales and refreshments.

And Cadence...

You're doing backdrops and set
design with Henry Harrison.

[Ms Lynda]
Let's get to it!

All right.
Cadence, huh?

Yeah.

Well, nice to
meet you, partner!

Hey. Henry, right?

‐Yeah.
‐Great.

So. Elf Village.

I already have
some ideas brewing.

Great! Me too.

[Henry]
Oh boy.

Your brew is farther
along than mine.

Okay. So if you
look at Section A

on the diagram right here,
the entrance to the elf train

will be stage left.

Ah...

So...

Center stage will be
where all the elves

are packaging the toys.

So we'll need approximately
five feet of scaffolding

just to set up
all of the props.

Then over here above
where the train is

we will have
the Elf Village.

As you can see
here on Section C.

Now access will be pretty
tight for the kids,

but I think with rehearsal
and proper blocking

it should just
work perfectly.

What do you think?

I, umm...

Oh and this is my
checklist, right here.

Did you want me to
print a copy for you?

Did I miss a meeting?

No.

Did I miss like
ten meetings?

When did you do
this blueprint?

I mean it's even
color‐coded.

Well, I, ah, I helped out
with the play last year,

and I got a little
sneak peak at the theme

from Ms Lynda last week.
So I just dove right in.

I see that.

‐Good job.
‐Thank you!

Is there anything better
than a good checklist?

You know, actually, what's
better than a good checklist

is checking things off.

I mean, right?

Hey, I got an idea.

How about we just feel
out the space. Huh?

Feel it out?

Yeah. Just, kind of,
listen to the space.

See what it wants
us to do with it.

Okay.

This space seems shy.

[laughs]

I don't know.

Okay.

I'm just saying that maybe we
should brainstorm some ideas.

Together.

Ah. Yeah, yeah okay.

I mean, we could
definitely like...

Add that to the list.

Brainstorming.

I, I am flexible. So...

Yeah, I see that.

Hey, what's your kid's name?

Mary. She's seven.

Yours?

Ruthie. She's six.

Very excited to be an elf.

Yeah, so is Mary.

Looks like we both
have elves for kids.

Yeah. Yeah, so,
you know what?

This is the space
that our elves

are going to help
out the big guy.

Yes. Yes.

And an Elf Village is
built on community.

And so is an elf
train, for that matter.

A community that's filled with
the Christmas spirit and magic.

Yeah. Yeah.

Joy!

Joy.

The foundation is joy!

A railway built on the
joy of Christmas. Huh?

You know.

Joy. Joy sounds great.

We just need to make
sure that the joy isn't

too expensive for our budget
and fits within our timeline.

have to take this.

Sorry, just give me one sec.

Avery. Hi.

Hi, Cadence.

I just wanted to see if we
could move up our meeting to

instead of next week.

Yeah, that works.

Oh, and my mom is
going to be joining us.

Millie? That's great.

I haven't seen
her in a while.

Is everything okay?

We just wanted to talk about
all the wedding plans and

make sure we're all
on the same page.

It's getting really close!

has officially started.

and I will see
you at eleven.

isn't a problem.

But "when" might be.
Right, Avery?

I know this is already a really

wanting our wedding date the
Saturday after Christmas.

But it's a good thing
that we already booked

if it might be possible.

If anyone could

Oh, oh. That's,
that's wonderful.

Yeah, so far so good.

I would really love to but I
have to get Mary to bed,

so I should probably go.

Oh Mary!

Oh well, thank you.

Yay!

Mary, why don't you let
your parents check out

and have some more p b & j's.
What do you think?

Okay, let's go!

All right.

Let's go find a sleigh.

Okay, which one

is the right one.

This one is very elegant,

Tell you what.

How about you see...

If it feels right?

Feels right?

Okay.

Where did you
get this sleigh?

Where did you get all of
this stuff, actually?

My brother and I, we've been
collecting Christmas items

since we were little.

And it's all
because of our mom.

Lex, Twinkle and I, we've
been decorating houses

for Christmas since
I can remember.

She made it into an official
business a few years ago.

Wait. So you do Christmas
all year round?

No. No I wish.

I'm a painter.

I actually paint
houses by day,

but I've been creating
art my whole life.

It helps out with the props.

Yeah, I bet.

How do Lex and Twinkle
fit into the whole thing?

Lex is an electrician, Twinkle
she does the accounting.

But when our forces combine...!

[they both laugh]

You sound like a great team.

I'm pretty lucky to
have the family I do.

You know, when my wife
passed away, Lex and Twinkle,

they just put everything
aside and made sure that

Ruthie and I got
back on our feet.

I'm so sorry.

Yeah, my wife, she was
the one who had the whole

parenting thing down.

I had no idea how
hard it was until...

Well until she was gone.

I just want to make sure
that Ruthie doesn't feel

like she's missing anything.

[choir of sleigh bells]

Is that the doorbell?

No.

That's, that's the
business phone.

[laughing]
Of course it is.

Hey, sorry about all that.

What, no.
Are you kidding?

I know all about
being a single parent.

It's no joke.

Well, I think this
is the sleigh.

Are you sure you don't mind?

I'll drop it off in
a couple of days.

Great. The alcove
is accounted for.

So, that was Sue
Sutton on the phone.

Yeah. I heard the
tolling of the bells.

I guess I'm not going to
have to follow up with her

at the Garden Club.

Oh no.

She's in!

‐What?
‐Yes!

Yeah!

All right!

Wow! Congratulations.
Who is Sue Sutton?

Oh, she is an icon,
a huge socialite.

Her family owns Redbird
Falls Chronicle.

This is the biggest
get of our company.

Okay. She wants you and
Lex to go over there today

after the Garden Club
so that you can,

you know, discuss
everything.

So, I'm going to call Lex
so guys can prepare. Okay.

Okay, miss ma'am, I think
it's time for us to go

finish our errands
for the day.

We'll walk you out.

Great.

[Henry]
Okay.

[Lex]
Ready?

[Henry]
All right.

Yeah.

[knocking at door]

[indistinct talking
in background]

Hi!

You must be Twinkle's boys
I've heard so much about!

Come in and warm up.

Thank you.

Millie is just wrapping up.
Take off your coats.

[indistinct talking
in background]

But an angel inspired her to
gather some weeds from the

roadside and bring them and
put them in front of the

church's altar.

And that is the story on
how poinsettias became

associated with Christmas.

[polite clapping]

Thank you so much
for having us.

Your home is stunning.

[Sue] Oh, thank you.
Please have a seat.

It's such a pleasure
to meet you.

And you.

Listen, your mother talks
about you two all the time,

I really feel like
I already know you.

All good things I hope.

Great things.

Otherwise, I wouldn't have
handed over my party to you.

[Lex laughs nervously]

I've overseen and planned
every last detail of every

Christmas Eve Party we've ever
had for the last 30 years.

Last year our theme was
Twelve Days of Christmas and

although it was fabulous there
was just something missing.

No shortage of poinsettias,
I'm sure. Ha ha.

Because all
the poinsettias...

Go on.

I decided that it would
be smart to outsource

the decorations
and spectacle.

I want my guests to
experience something

completely unexpected.

Hmm. Well, we are definitely the
company to help you with that.

Yeah.

I feel like you are also.

And we are going to find
out sooner than later.

[nervous laughter]

You know, my husband
and I invite nearly

all of Redbird Falls.

And we usually have quite
the guest list, so if you

two play your cards right,
this could be a great

opportunity for a
company such as yours.

Well. We will not
let you down.

No.

So we'll do 20 rounds
of 10, crystal stemware,

overflowing floral
centerpieces,

delicate little tea
lights on every table.

Have you chosen the color
for your linens yet?

Oh, I think Cadence
said they were cream.

Right, Cadence?

Well, the lodge
offers white or cream.

So it's up to you.

Thank you.

I just want to make sure all the
details are perfect for Avery.

Mom, it will be beautiful.

We both know Cadence
has it all figured out.

Plus, I keep telling you,
Sam and I don't care about

all that little stuff.

This room will
be breathtaking,

and most importantly, it
will be filled with love.

Let me show you
what I have planned

for the cake‐cutting.
Come on.

So, after we pass the champagne
fountain, and the stage.

This will be the center
piece of the room.

[Cadence]
Now just imagine.

Your gorgeous
four‐tiered wedding cake

framed by this perfect view
while the snow falls gently

behind you on
the lake.

[Cadence] Now that is something
your guests won't forget.

I love the idea of me and
Sam cutting our wedding cake

with this background.

It really
sounds like you

put it all together
perfectly, Cadence.

How do you do it?

I just organize
and prioritize.

[cell phone rings]

[Cadence chuckles]

You miss me already?

[Avery] This wedding is
going to be amazing.

We're only six miles out
of town and it feels like

we are on another continent.

I love this lodge
and I love you.

I love you too.

Okay, look. We got to
decorate this bridge.

It is the only way in
and out of the lodge,

so let's make it sparkle.

I am picturing a horse‐mounted
greeter. What do you think?

[Avery]
Ahhh! You think of everything.

Good morning, Cadence.

Hey, where do you
want this thing?

Yeah. Yes.

We just need to make sure that
the caterers are there by three.

No later.

Hey Cadence, this
thing weighs a ton.

Great.

Yeah, great because it's
sturdy, but really,

it's super heavy.

Here. You know what?

Just put it down up here.

To the right.

Here here here.

I'll go find out.

Yes that's exactly
what we talked about.

I just wanted to
make sure that...

[Cadence]
Uh huh. That should be fine.

Hey Cadence.

Woo!

Sorry! I'm...

Yeah, it, it's just paint.

No no. That sorry was
for somebody else.

Actually...

Thank you. Yes.
Thank you so much.

I'm looking forward to
seeing your revised proposal.

Thank you. Thank you.

Hi!

I'm sorry guys. I didn't
see you or hear you come in.

[Lex]
No worries.

It was worth it to
watch you paint Henry.

Listen. I will you now
with our creative genius

for a couple of hours, but
Henry, we really need

to get to work on those crystal
reindeer for the Sutton House.

Do they have to be crystal?

Henry!

Got it.
Crystal it is.

I'll see you soon.

Have fun.

Should we get started?

Painting? You bet.

I took the liberty of
picking out some paint colors

I thought would work really
well for the Elf Village.

And I also sharpened a bunch
of pencils so you could

sketch it out before
you start painting.

Before we start painting.

Ha. No. No no no.

I'm good with priming,
I'm good with designing.

I am not an artist.

I don't believe you.

So what did you have in
mind for the corner,

right over there?

I had that designated
as a forest area.

So I was thinking
trees and some snow...

[Henry]
That's perfect.

Go ahead. Get started.

No, I told you I can't.

I told you you can.

It's just paint.

If you screw it up,
we'll do it over.

No I really can't.

We don't have time or the
budget to just do it over.

Okay. Hold this.

Okay.

Whaaaat are you...

You are going to
practice on this.

You want me to paint
on your shirt again?

It's okay, Cadence.

I know. You're so

So am I.

You really did

Christmas Eve
wedding, Cadence.

Thank you.

[Avery] When this all clears

We waited this long, what's
