[eerie music]

Narrator:The countryside near Collinwood

lies quiet and serene on this night,

in parallel concurrent time.

But in the great house, a web of evil

being woven by Angelique,

will begin to ensnare its first victim, Maggie Collins,

who will be placing herself in double jeopardy

by her presence at her husband's side.

For Angelique is not the only force

that co-conspire for Maggie's destruction.

[tense music]

[sighing]

[mumbling]

Quentin, are you feeling better?

- Fine. - Maggie's back.

Maggie?

No!

- No, no, - BARNABAS: Quentin!

she must not stay in this house.

You must get her out of here!

Quentin, please! She must not be here,

get her out! Get her out!

Quentin, please!

I've come back to stay.

[ominous orchestral music]

[Dark Shadows theme music]

Maggie you can't stay here.

Please don't say that Quentin.

Please don't say that.

No, no, listen, it's not safe here.

Quentin, there's only one place in the world

where I'm safe, that's here with you.

No, no, no, no, no!

I only know that I love you.

I always will.

Please, don't send me away.

QUENTIN: Maggie, it's too dangerous.

Mrs. Collins, if you'll excuse me,

if there's nothing else I can do?

Mr. Collins, Elizabeth told me how wonderful you've been.

I don't know how to thank you.

Quentin's recovery will be thanks enough.

He will get better, won't you, darling?

Oh, Maggie, Maggie.

Please excuse me, if there's nothing any further,

I have nothing further that I can do.

Goodnight.

Goodnight, Mr. Collins.

Oh Barnabas...

Barnabas, I...

I don't believe I told you when you,

when you first asked me,

you are welcome here at Collinwood.

Thank you.

Goodnight. MAGGIE: Goodnight.

QUENTIN: Goodnight.

Quentin, how do you feel now?

Are you comfortable, is there anything I can get you?

I'd be much better if I knew you were...

not in danger.

Is that the only reason why you don't want me here?

[chuckles] What other reason is there?

Oh, Quentin!

QUENTIN: Maggie I've been a fool.

MAGGIE: And I've been vain and proud

and we've both been like children!

Yes and so now it's too late.

No it's not.

I don't believe that, Quentin.

You've got to.

Let go.

MAGGIE: Quentin?

Quentin, what's the matter?

Is it the pain?

Yes, the pain.

- Please! - Pain.

Just lie quietly and I'll get the doctor.

No, no don't.

MAGGIE: Quentin, please!

Maggie, the pain...

MAGGIE: Please Quentin!

Maggie the pain,

MAGGIE: Please don't move! it's gone away.

No, listen to me, the pain, all of it, it's going away!

MAGGIE: What?

Yes...

listen to me, I can breath much easier now.

MAGGIE: Oh, you must get...

Hey...

I can really hold you now,

[gasping] Oh Quentin, that's...

[laughter]

Now listen, don't you understand?

I'm going to be better, Maggie,

- I know I am. - Of course you are, darling,

but please, just rest.

Now listen to me,

- Please! - I'm all right.

We are all right now.

[crying] Yes we are.

And I can take care of you for a long time,

and see that nothing ever happens to you.

Oh, Quentin.

Hey, we're going to be together.

You and I are going to be together for a long time.

Oh, Quentin.

Nothing's ever going to hurt either one of us.

[suspenseful music]

BARNABAS THINKING: Maggie.

CAROLYN: You think I'm afraid to do it, well, I'm not!

WILL: Not so loud!

You think this is loud,

just wait till I start telling people the truth.

Oh no, you won't I know...

Won't I?

Just wait and see.

You can be Barnabas's sl*ve if you want to be.

Now you know I don't, I have no choice about the matter,

and neither do you, if you keep it up,

he can do it to you again!

I know he can.

And that's why I'm not gonna wait to tell the truth.

Carolyn, he might find out.

CAROLYN: Not until it's too late.

Carolyn, you've got to stop this!

You mean you gotta stay the way you are, his sl*ve?

WILL: Of course not!

Then don't try to stop me, Will.

Carolyn, he may go back, back to his own time!

He'll never get back, you know that as well as I do.

He might!

And then we can forget about it all,

as if he never happened.

I'm not waiting another minute.

I strongly suggest that you do.

[tense music]

Barnabas, how long have you been here?

Long enough to hear words

I would prefer not to have heard.

I will tell, you can't stop me.

Can't I?

Barnabas, Barnabas!

[shouting] Barnabas, no!

[tense orchestral music]

Stay away from me!

Don't come near me.

Carolyn, tell him you didn't mean it, tell him...

She meant it, I have no doubt.

But she will be silent.

There are enough difficulties at Collinwood tonight

without any further disturbances.

Quentin is extremely ill and...

his wife has just returned.

Your concern doesn't impress me in the least.

You care nothing for him, and you know it.

That's not true, Quentin is my cousin.

Quentin is not your cousin!

That's in another time, here he's nothing to you.

He is my cousin, as you are my cousin,

in this time or any other time.

You are a Collins, as I am a Collins.

That's why I prefer not to harm you.

You are not a Collins!

You're not even human!

[shouting] Carolyn, that's enough!

You know I can't live this way, neither can you!

One does not always choose the conditions

under which he will live or not live.

No one knows that better than I.

CAROLYN: Why don't you go away and leave us alone?

Because this is the one place that can offer me a chance

to get back to my own time.

Through the very room that brought me here.

Now I wish to have a word with Will alone.

[tense music]

Let me remind you of one simple fact.

Expose me, and it will mean destruction

for your husband, and yourself.

CAROLYN: You wouldn't.

I would, without hesitation.

Now, open the secret panel.

I said, open the panel!

[tense music]

[clacking] [wooden rumbling]

You must not allow me to leave this room.

How can I stop you?

I give you complete power over me,

this one night only.

I don't understand.

The cross.

Do you still have that cross?

Yes, why?

You will get it, and bring it back here,

and you will not let me see it, unless...

WILL: Unless...

Unless you try to leave?

Yes.

I still don't understand.

There's no need for you to try to understand.

Get the cross and bring it back.

I must not leave this room.

[wooden rumbling]

Maggie, I'm perfectly all right now.

You can see that for yourself.

Quentin, the doctor told me to bring you

to the hospital for tests, and that's what I'm gonna do!

Well why not tomorrow?

Just a short time ago, you were a dying man.

And now I'm feeling fine.

Well, there's one way to make sure, and that's to go

to the hospital for the tests.

And I promised the doctor I'd bring you there, and--

Well I don't want to go.

Maggie.

What's the matter?

Maggie, how can it be?

Doesn't it make you wonder?

One minute I'm dying, the next minute I'm...

MAGGIE: Quentin let's wait and see

what the doctor says, come on.

[closing door]

[tolling grandfather clock]

[tolling clock]

[suspenseful music]

[wooden rumbling]

[wooden rumbling]

BARNABAS: You have the cross with you?

Yes!

Put it away!

Put it away!

[hypnotic music]

[groaning]

You will use it only when necessary.

WILL: Why can't we leave this room, why?

Can't you guess?

Yes, I suppose I can.

VISITOR OUTSIDE: Mr. Loomis?

Mrs. Loomis?

Is anybody home?

[tense music]

[whispering] Maggie.

Carolyn?

Mr. Collins?

Hello?

Hello, Maggie.

Carolyn, how are you?

I'm all right.

Barnabas mentioned to us that you were back.

How's Quentin?

Oh, he seems to be much better now.

I just took him to the hospital for tests.

And, uh, he seems to be coming along all right.

You know I can't understand what could've gone wrong.

You must feel very relieved.

Yes, I do.

I just wish I could stay at the hospital with him.

But I should apologize to you for coming by so late,

and just walking in like this,

but I did want Barnabas to know that everything does

seem to be all right now and...

He's not here, is he?

CAROLYN:No, no, he isn't.

Oh perhaps you could give him the message then, and,

and tell Will too.

And I'll let you know the results of the tests

as soon as I know.

Thank you, Maggie.

You know, I hate to think what could've happened if

Barnabas hadn't been there when Quentin had that attack.

Elizabeth told me how...

how calm he was, took complete charge.

It's difficult to believe that he's a, a distant relative.

He seemed more like someone who'd known him all his life.

Strange, isn't it?

CAROLYN:Yes, strange.

Well, I should get back to Collinwood.

Elizabeth and the others will want to hear the news too.

And the doctor might call tonight.

Goodnight, Carolyn, it's good seeing you again.

You too.

Ah, it's she you're hiding from, isn't it?

Yes, when I was writing the book, you mentioned

how much she reminded you in the other time of Josette!

That's enough, Will.

Yes, and this Maggie reminds you of that one, doesn't she?

[howling wolves]

Open the panel.

WILL: What?

I said open the panel.

Oh no, oh no, you don't want to leave here,

you know you don't!

You told me to stop you.

Nothing can stop me now.

[suspenseful music]

You said this is what you wanted me to do.

I've got to get out of here, put that away!

You told me not to let you out,

no matter what! Let me out, Will,

I'm warning you!

[shouting] I am only doing what you told me to do!

[wooden rumbling]

No, no don't hurt him, please!

[screaming]

Will!

Will!

[tense orchestral music] [howling wolves]

[dramatic music]

CAROLYN: You should've known you couldn't stop him.

Maggie, I must warn Maggie.

What are you talking about?

That's why he was in the room.

He shut himself in there, and then he heard her voice.

You mean he's going after her?

Yes, yes, I've got to get to--

No, no, you can't, not the way you are.

Collinwood.

I, I, I'll go and warn her.

Carolyn, be careful.

[suspenseful music]

[loud approaching footsteps] [howling storm]

BARNABAS:Isn't it a little late

to be making social calls?

Barnabas.

May I ask you for the reason for your visit?

I...

I wanted to ask Maggie

if she's heard any more about Quentin.

Wasn't it...

Barnabas that you were asking about?

No, I said I wouldn't tell.

You warned me, that was enough.

BARNABAS: Apparently it wasn't enough.

MAGGIE: Who's out there?

Maggie...

Maggie, it's Carolyn.

[clunking door]

Carolyn!

I, uh, I was just wondering.

Wondering what?

Is there somebody out here with you,

I thought I heard--

No, no, I'm here alone.

MAGGIE: Is something wrong Carolyn, what is it?

Maggie I felt so terrible after you left the house, and,

it occurred to me that I hadn't asked you

whether there were anything Will or I could do for you?

Thank you, Carolyn, that's very kind of you,

but I don't think there's anything to do

but wait for the results of the test.

CAROLYN: I just thought I would ask.

Goodnight.

Goodnight, Carolyn.

Maggie.

Don't you think you would, rest easier

if you went to the hospital and stayed there with Quentin?

MAGGIE: Well, I suggested that to Quentin,

he insisted I come home here.

Oh, don't worry about me, Carolyn, I'll be fine.

Very well.

You know best.

- Bye. - MAGGIE: Goodnight, Carolyn.

[suspenseful music]

[howling wolves]

[blowing storm]

[tolling bell]

[tense music]

[squeaking bat]

[dramatic orchestral music]

[loud dramatic music]

[Dark Shadows theme music]
