ABUELO: You got it!

[chuckles] Where to next, Alma?

ALMA: To the left!

ALMA: Zig-zag, Abuelo! Zig-zag!

ABUELO: Okay, careful! Excuse me!

PEDESTRIAN: Whoa!

ABUELO: Whoaa! [chuckles]

ALMA: Abuelo is the best wagon driver in the Bronx!

ALMA: Full speed ahead! We're almost there!

[crowd murmuring]

ALMA: Whoa! Look at all those fruits and vegetables!

ABUELO: Increíble, ¿no?

We're all sharing what we grew in our gardens at home and here.

ALMA: What did we bring, Abuelo?

ABUELO: Ahh, see for yourself!

ALMA: Cucumbers!

¡Qué chévere!

ABUELO: Ok, Alma, I'm going to put these on a table.

Then I'm gonna get tomatoes

for my Super Slurpy Spaghetti Supper! [chuckles]

ALMA: His spaghetti is sooo... mwah!

ABUELO: Mira, why don't you pick out a little something to go with dinner?

ALMA: I'm on it, Abuelo!

FRANKIE: Hey-yo, Almaa!

ALMA: Hi, Frankie! What's up?

FRANKIE: Check this out...

FRANKIE: What do you call a pea that's in a bad mood?

FRANKIE: Grump-pea! [laughs] Get it? GRUMP -pea? [laughs]

ALMA: [giggles] Nice one, Frankie.

ALMA: Whoa, you must be wayy hungry!

FRANKIE: [laughs] It's not all for me!

I'm making a lotta food for a lotta people.

ALMA: Huh?

FRANKIE: Yeahh! Every week I cook up meals

to take to folks who need them.

ALMA: Awww! That's really nice of you, Frankie!

FRANKIE: Just doing what I can!

ALMA: Becka! Hiiii!

BECKA: Hey Alma! What's up? Welcome to the Garden Share!

ALMA: Thanks. I'm looking for something we can eat

with my Abuelo's Super Slurpy Spaghetti Supper!

BECKA: Is it really slurpy?

ALMA: The slurpiest.

BECKA: [giggles] Great! I'll help ya pick something. C'mon!

BECKA: How ‘bout pumpkins?

Good for Halloween, great for making pie!

ALMA: [effort] But hard to carry. What else you got?

BECKA: Hmm.. .Ooo, I know! C'mon!

ALMA: Whoa!

BECKA: Tada! Kohlrabi!

ALMA: Kohl-WHAT-bee?

BECKA: [giggles]. Kohl-RA-bi,

it's kinda like cabbage.

ALMA: Cabbage, hmm, okay...

ALMA: Oh, wow-wow-wow-wow!

BECKA: Whoaa-kay!

ALMA: COOORRRNNN!!

BECKA: With spaghetti?

ALMA: I LOOOOVE corn!

Grilled corn, corn on the cob, corn fritters,

popcorn, corn chowder, corn bread, corn salsa...!

BECKA: Don't forget corn muffins,

and corn pudding, and corn cake, too!

Corn is the Queen of Crops!

BECKA: ‘Cause it rules! You know, like a queen. [giggles]

ALMA: Mmmmm! I'm getting hungry! Can I take some?

BECKA: Yep! Everything's free.

And like my mom says...

[in a Jersey accent] “The garden policy is to take whatcha need.”

ALMA: Well... I definitely need ALL of it!

BECKA: O-kay. Lemme give you a hand.

ALMA: [effort]

BECKA: Here, let me help you!

ALMA: Thanks!

ALMA/BECKA: [effort]

ALMA: Whooaaa!

BECKA: Here you go, Alma.

ALMA/BECKA: [effort] Phew!

ALMA: Thanks, Becka.

BECKA: And, Alma... Have a corny day!

ALMA/BECKA: [giggles]

ALMA: Bye, Becka!

ABUELO: Hmmm, MmmMmm.

Ahh... MmmMmm. Oh...

ALMA: Abuelo, what are you looking at?

ABUELO: ¡Tomates!

ALMA: [giggling]

I know, but why are you staring at them?

ABUELO: I'm trying to decide

which tomato will be better for my spaghetti sauce.

ALMA: Why don't you just grab a whole bunch?

ABUELO: I only need five for my recipe,

so I'm trying to find the perfect ones.

Are you the perfect tomato?

[in higher pitch] Hm, sí, I am!

ABUELO: Ahh, You are! [laughs]

That's five tomatoes!

All done. What did you pick, Alma?

ALMA: A surprise!

ABUELO: [laughs]

Well, let's take our treasures home quick,

so I can find out.

ABUELO: ¡Vamos!

[effort /chuckles]

Are you sure you didn't put rocks in there?

ALMA: [giggles]

♪guitar strums♪ MAMI: [humming]

ALMA: ¡Hola, Mami!

MAMI: Hello, my lovelies!

ALMA: Wait till you see what I got!

ABUELO: Alma picked out a surprise to eat...

with my Super Slurpy [slurps]

Spaghetti Supper!

[chuckles]

ALMA: It's way, way, waaayy delicious!

MAMI: Ouu, I can't wait!

[effort]

This backpack is way, way, wayyy stuffed.

MAMI: [deep breath] Phew!

Let's see what you picked to go with dinner...

Hmm, This is packed tight!

[effort]

ALMA: TADA!!!

ABUELO: This is a surprise!

ALMA: I know what you're thinking.

Corn doesn't go with spaghetti, right?

But that's not corn's fault!

ABUELO: Alma, this is, ummm,

a- a- a lot of corn.

W-What did you want to do with all of it?

ALMA: Put it in our tummies!

We can make corn bread, fritters, soup, poppers, salsa...

We can have a cornnnn party!!

CHACHO: [bark] JUNIOR: Did someone say corn party??

‘Cause that's my thing!

JUNIOR: Ooo! Who's coming over for dinner tonight?

Everyone in the Bronx??

ALMA: Noo, just our family...

JUNIOR: Just us? Vente, Chacho,

let's practice our corn dance!

Pop-pop-pop- poppity-pop!

[barks]

Pop! Pop! Pop! P-p- p-pop! Poppity-Pop!

MAMI: Alma, I love corn too, but... Oouff

this is a lot. Why'd you take so much?

ALMA: Uhhh...well...

I don't get it...did I take too much corn?

I gotta think about this...

ALMA: Who wouldn't want all of this beautiful, delicious corn?!

ABUELO: I only need five for my recipe,

so I'm trying to find the perfect ones.

ALMA: Oh, wait. Abuelo only took some tomatoes.

Not all of them...

BECKA: Everything's free. And like my mom says...

ALMA: Hmm...

My family doesn't NEED this much corn.

I love it,

but this is really too much!

Ugh! I know what to do.

ALMA: Mami, Abuelo... I took way more corn than I needed.

Sorry about that.

MAMI: Ah, it's okay, Almita.

ALMA: Can I please bring it back to the garden,

so other people can have some too?

ABUELO: ¡Buena idea! I'll take you.

ALMA: [gasp] Uh-oh.

[crickets]

ALMA: Where is everybody?

ABUELO: Ay, they're all gone.

ALMA: What are we going to do now, Abuelo?

ABUELO: It's okay, Alma. We did our best.

[traffic sounds]

ABUELO: We'll just have to figure out a way to use all this corn.

ALMA: Okay...

FRANKIE: [beatboxing]

ALMA: [gasp] I've got it!

Abuelo, I know who we can give all the corn to!

ABUELO: Who?

ALMA: Follow me!

ABUELO: [laughs]

ALMA: FRANKIE!

FRANKIE: What's good?

FRANKIE: Whoa-oh! That's a lot of corn. You must be hungry.

ALMA: Are you still making meals for people who need them?

FRANKIE: I'm actually headed to the Community Center right now to finish up!

ALMA: If it's okay...

Do you think my family could make some food for the meals too?

ABUELO: Ah, great idea, Alma!

FRANKIE: For real?!

That's totally nice of you!

What are you gonna make?

ALMA: Something corny!

FRANKIE: Oh-kaaaay?

[spoon taps on plate]

ALMA: Corn cooking party... GO!

ALL: ¡Wepa! Woo-hoo! Alright!

MAMI: This is our corn song!

MAMI/ALMA: Our family corn song!

MAMI: Grilling, flambéing-

ABUELO: And some pureeing--

JUNIOR: And on the side a corny dance!

ALMA: A corny corn dance about some corn!

JUNIOR: Break it down now!

MAMI/ABUELO: Ayy!/Ay-yeah!

MAMI/ALMA: Go Junior! Go Junior!

ALMA: That's all of it!

FRANKIE: ¡Muchísimas gracias! I'm e-kernelly grateful.

FRANKIE/ALMA: [laughs]

ALMA: I get it!

FRANKIE: Ah, that's my cue. I'm off to deliver the food.

[car engine starts]

MAMI: So, Alma,

what should we have

with Abuelo's Super Slurpy Spaghetti Supper tonight?

ALMA: How about corn?

MAMI: Really?

ALMA: Really really.

ALMA: What?! I LOVE corn!

ALMA/MAMI: Waddle, waddle, waddle, bump!

ALMA: Mami and I just saw the newest Penguin Power Squad movie.

It was sooo good!

JUNIOR/PAPI: ROAAR!!

JUNIOR: [gasp] Alma!

Did you remember to bring us back some--?

ALMA: Popcorn!!

JUNIOR: Yesyesyesyesyes! Thank you!

ALMA: You're welcome!

JUNIOR: [in dino voice] Mmmm popcorn!

JUNIOR: That's right, Dippy! Salty!

Just the way we like it! [in dino voice] ROAR!! SALTY!

PAPI: So... tell me everything!

MAMI: Mwah!

PAPI: How was Mami-Alma Day?

ALMA: It was way, way, waaay...

ALMA/MAMI: SAAA-WEET! [giggles]

ALMA: First, we had fancy sandwiches at the café...

then we looked at books at the bookstore...

and the penguin movie was HI-LAR-I-OUS!

ALMA/MAMI: Waddle, waddle, waddle, bump!

ALMA: I loved spending the whole day with just Mami!

MAMI: Hmm.

PAPI: Ay, it sounds like your day was one for the history books!

You're up next, Junior! You ready?

JUNIOR: Yeeeep! I can't wait for Mami-Junior day tomorrow!

PAPI: What are you two going to do?

JUNIOR: First we're getting pizza, then going to the park,

and after that we're going to the new bacon-donut shop!

ALMA: [gasp] Bacon donuts...YUM!

JUNIOR: Not even Dippy is coming.

It's just going to be Mami and me! Sorry, Dippy.

MAMI: You and me, Junior. Up high!

MAMI/JUNIOR: [high five clap]

ALMA: Can I come for a donut, too?

MAMI: [giggles] No, Almita. We just had our Mami-Alma Day,

and tomorrow it's Junior's turn.

ALMA: Oh, okay.

I get it, but I'm still kinda bummed.

JUNIOR: Hey, Alma. I'll bring you back a donut. I promise!

ALMA: Thanks, Junior! You're the best!

JUNIOR: I know.

ALMA/JUNIOR: Waddle, waddle, waddle, bump!

[giggles]

MAMI: ¿Listo, Junior? It's time to go!

JUNIOR: Ready, ready, ready!!

MAMI: [laughs]

ALMA: Have fun!

PAPI: Bye!

PAPI: Have fun, you two!

ALMA: And please don't forget my donut, Junior!

JUNIOR: I won't!

PAPI: C'mon, Chacho. I think there's some laundry to fold.

ALMA: Hmm, what should I do now?

Maybe I'll read the new Carlotta Clues book,

The Case of the Missing Pickle! Or maybe, I'll-

LUCAS: Alma!

LUCAS: Hey, Alma!

ALMA: Oh, hey, Lucas! Hi, Mr. Reed!

LUCAS: My dad and I are headed over to the-

LUCAS/OWEN: Ba-da-da-ba-ba-baaa!

LUCAS: Midday Dance Break in the park!

OWEN: Wanna come with us?

ALMA: Definitely!

[yells] PAPIIIIIII!

PAPI/CHACHO: [yells] ¿SÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍ?/[growls]

ALMA: [giggles]

Can I go to the park with Lucas and Mr. Reed?

OWEN: Hey, Ruben!

PAPI: Hi, Owen and Lucas! ¡Claro, Alma! Have a great time!

ALMA: Thanks, Papi! Byee!

OWEN: I've been practicing my dance moves, Alma!

I am soo ready! [chuckles]

[crowd murmur] [upbeat music coming from DJ]

ALMA: Whoa, looks like lots of people want to dance!

OWEN: Hey! You ready to dance up a storm! [laughs]

UNCLE NESTOR: ¡Hola, Alma! Happy dancing! Ahoo!

ALMA: ¡Gracias, Uncle Nestor!

CROWD: Woo, woo!

[record scratch] [music ends]

FRANKIE: What's good, midday dance crew?!

It's me, Frankie Four Feet, and I want to know:

Are you ready to get down!?

CROWD: WooWoo! [cheers] [clapping]

LUCAS/ALMA: Let's go! /Yeah!!

FRANKIE: What's that? I can't hear you!

CROWD: [cheers louder]

FRANKIE: That's more like it. Okay then, let's break it down!

CROWD: Woo! [cheers]

♪upbeat pop music♪ [cheering] [crowd laughing]

FRANKIE: Yoo! Mr. and Mrs. Ramirez! Y'all better do ya thing!

ALMA/LUCAS/FRANKIE: Bust a move!/Oh yeah, oh yeah!

ALMA: [gasp]

ALMA: It's Mami and Junior!

MAMI: Oooo, Junior! Good job! Nice moves!

ALMA: [shouts] ¡Mami! Junior!

ALMA: [tired] Uh! I made it.

JUNIOR: [gasp] Alma!? What are you doing here!?

MAMI: Did Papi bring you to the park?

ALMA: Nope, I came with Lucas and Mr. Reed!

ALMA: [gasp!] I love this song!

CROWD: [cheers] [whistles]

JUNIOR: Alma!!

ALMA: What's wrong, Junior? You don't wanna break it down?

JUNIOR: I love breaking it down, but today is Mami-JUNIOR Day,

not Mami-Junior-ALMA Day!

ALMA: But--

MAMI: Mija, today is supposed to be just for Junior and me.

Our day was yesterday, ¿recuerdas?

ALMA: Yeah... Sorry, Junior!

JUNIOR: That's okay, Alma.

ALMA: Uh... I'm gonna go back.

MAMI: Mwah! Hasta luego, Alma.

ALMA: Have a fun Mami-Junior Day!

JUNIOR: Thaaanks!

CROWD: [cheers]

ALMA: Aw, they look like they're having an awesome time together.

OWEN: Ready for bacon donuts, Alma?

ALMA: What?! Bacon.. .donuts?

LUCAS: That's right! Bacon donut shop, here we come!

ALMA: Oh, Okay...

OWEN: Too slow... Too slow!

JUNIOR: [giggles] Funny one, Mami!

ALMA: Hey-!

Oh. They're going to the bacon donut shop.

So... is it okay if I go there too?

ALMA: Hmm, I gotta think about this...

JUNIOR: And after that...

we're going to the new bacon donut shop!

ALMA: He looked so happy about Mami-Junior Day.

ALMA/MAMI: Waddle, waddle, waddle, bump!

ALMA: Yeah, I know I had fun when it was just Mami and me...

JUNIOR: But today is Mami -JUNIOR Day,

I should let Junior have his day with just her too.

I know what to do!

ALMA: Thank you for inviting me to the bacon donut shop,

but I can't go...

LUCAS: SAY WHAAAT?! But but... it's BACON DONUTS, Alma!!

ALMA: I know, I know, but--

LUCAS: Bacon. Donuts. BACON-DONUTS!

They even have vegan bacon!

ALMA: Yeaah, but today's Mami-Junior Day, so...

They should have bacon donuts, just the two of them.

LUCAS: But-

OWEN: Wow!

That's super duper thoughtful, Alma.

Alright then,

let's drop you off at home.

ALMA: Thanks, Mr. Reed.

LUCAS: [whispers] But Alma... it's bacon, and donuts.

Are you sure?

ALMA: MmmHmm.

LUCAS: I can't believe it.

LUCAS/ALMA/OWEN: [laughs]

ALMA: Thanks for taking me to the park!

OWEN: No prob, Alma.

LUCAS: See ya!

PAPI: Thanks, Owen!

OWEN: See ya, Ruben.

CHACHO: [whine]

PAPI: So, how was the Midday Dance Break?

ALMA: Great, Papi. I busted a lot of moves!

PAPI: [chuckles] I'm glad you had fun!

Let's go inside and feed Chacho now.

CHACHO: [bark]

[TV channel changes from nature to sports game]

CHACHO: [growls] [bark]

ALMA: [laughs] I think Chacho was watching that, Papi.

[TV changes back to nature]

PAPI: Lo siento, Chacho.

[door opens]

ALMA: You're back already?!

MAMI: MmmHmm.

Junior wanted to make sure your donut was still warm

by the time we got home!

JUNIOR: Here you go, Alma. It's sooooo goood!

ALMA: ¡Muchas gracias, Junior!

PAPI: [gasp]

MAMI: UhhHuh.

PAPI/MAMI: [laugh]

PAPI: ¡Gracias, mi vida! Mwah!

PAPI: Okay, okay. So now that you've had Mami-Alma Day and Mami-Junior Day,

who wants to have a Papi Day?

ALMA/JUNIOR: [gasp] Ooo, I do!/ Me!

CHACHO: [bark] [bark]

PAPI: Ay, Chacho. [chuckles]

ALMA: I guess tomorrow's Papi-Chacho Day!

ALL: [chuckles]

PAPI: Ay, Chacho. [chuckles]
