Welcome to the show!

Today we're going to meet a real life

paleontologist, Mary Anning!

Yadina: A paleontologist is someone

who collects and studies fossils.

(cracking/crashing) Like these!

Brad: Fossils are really old bones and shells

from animals that lived a long time ago.

Yadina: A long, looooong time ago.

Before people even existed!

Xavier: Fossils help us learn

what animals were like back then.

Brad: What they looked like, what foods they ate,

and even how they moved!

(loud rumbling)

Uh... Time to start the show!

(zap)

Yadina: (humming)

Phew! That was a lot of work,

but our dinosaur is finally done.

Xavier: Good work everyone!

Brad: Uh, guys?

We only made the head.

I'm pretty sure dinosaurs had bodies.

With legs and arms?

Xavier: Yeah, but the head's the best part.

Brad: That's what you said when we made the bear.

And the doll.

Wouldn't it be great to actually

finish one of these?

They'd be way more fun to play with.

Xavier: What do you mean?

Rawr! I'm gonna catch you!

Yadina: But it'll take forever to make a whole dinosaur.

Brad: Yes!

Yadina: And where we'll go?

Yadina: That's cause we're by the ocean!

Brad: Oh yeah. So pretty!

(whirring) Xavier: Yes! Mary Anning!

Brad: Aaah! Aaaah!

Mary Anning: A-ha! Found another.

Xavier: Hi there!

What did you find?

Mary: The fossil of an ammonite!

It's a shell from an animal

that lived in the ocean a long time ago.

Back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth!

Yadina: Um, are you sure that's not just a lump of dirt...?

Mary: (giggles) I know it doesn't look very exciting,

that's just because I haven't cleaned it yet.

Joseph Anning: Hey Mary! I'm going to find more fossils.

Want to come?

Mary: This is my brother Joseph.

He loves hunting for fossils too.

Xavier: Whoa! A real fossil hunt!

Let's go! Mary: Okay!

I just need to finish cleaning this fossil first.

Brad: Great! We'll stay with you, Mary.

Joseph: Ok, see you down there.

Xavier: Maybe we'll get a head start...

Mary: ...and done!

Yadina: Oh wow!

You can really see it now.

It was totally worth cleaning.

Mary: Yep. When you start something,

it feels good to finish it.

Ready to find more fossils now?

This is our favourite spot to dig for fossils.

Xavier: But how do you find them?

Mary: By removing earth from the cliff.

Carefully.

You don't want to miss or break any of the fossils.

Here! You try.

(hammering) Yadina: Ugh! Ugh! Agh!

(hammering) Ugh! Ugh! Aaaagh! (sighs)

Searching for fossils is hard work!

Brad: And.. ugh... dirty.

Xavier: Yeah. When are we going to find

some cool dinosaur bones?

Mary: Well, it can take a really long time

to find something, but let's keep trying.

Joseph: Hey Mary, come over here.. I found something!

Xavier/Yadina/Brad: Whoa!

Brad: What is it?

Xavier: (gasps) Maybe it's a dinosaur skull!

Yadina: Or great big unicorn!

Brad: Or a giant butterfly!

Yikes!

Mary: It's probably from some sort of marine reptile,

who lived over million years ago!

Brad: That's way less scary than the butterfly.

Joseph: Well, I'm done. See ya!

Mary: You're quitting?

What about the rest of the fossil?

Joseph: I already found the head.

Everybody knows the head is the best part.

Mary: But it's not finished!

Brad: It's our paper-mâché dinosaur problem all over again!

Yadina: I'm with Joseph on this one.

Xavier: Yeah. Digging for fossils is hard.

Maybe we should just stop now?

Mary: No way! When you start something,

it feels good to finish it.

Joseph: Well, you're on your own, sister.

I'm going to go play.

Brad: C'mon guys, maybe there's more fossils

right under this rock!

♪ (disapointing music) ♪

Ok maybe not this rock.

But I'm sure we'll find more any second!

(hammers hitting rock) ♪

(wind blowing)

Xavier: (sighs) Dr Zoom: (squeek)

Yadina: (sighs)

Brad: Ooof! Seagull: (squawks)

(rain falling softly) (hammering)

Xavier: We've been digging forever!

Yadina: And we haven't found anything!

Brad: Maybe we should give up.

Yadina: Finally!

Berby!

Xavier: Time to go home!

Berby: (bleep blarp bleep)

Xavier: But there's nothing else here.

Berby: (bloop) Mary: (gasps)

I found something!

Yadina: That's the boney thing from the Secret Museum!

Mary: It's a flipper! And a big one, too!

Xavier: Awesome!

Mary: Finding this flipper feels pretty good, right?

Just imagine how good it'll feel to find the whole thing!

Brad: Mary's right!

We have to keep going!

(hammering)

(hammering) (heavy rain falling)

Mary: (gasps)

(hammering) (cracking)

Brad: (gasps)

Ooof!

Seagull: (squealing)

Brad: (exhaling heavily)

Wow!

Brad: Uaaaaaah!

Yadina: Ugh!

Mary: (gasps) This is it!

I've never seen anything like it.

Xavier/Yadina: AH-mazing! Yay.

Brad: It's huge! Huge, huge, huge!

Xavier: I mean, we see tons of fossils at the museum,

but somehow this one is way better.

Mary: That's because we kept going until

we had the whole thing.

When you start something, it feels good to finish it.

Yadina: You know, there's something we have to finish.

Xavier: Totally. Thanks Mary Anning!

Brad: Congratulations on your discovery!

Xavier: Berby, let's go home.

Berby: (bleep blarp bloop)

Yadina: You were right, Brad.

I'm really glad we finished it.

Xavier: Rawr!! I'm the stomp-a-saurus!

And I have awesome legs!

I'm gonna get you!

No fair! We don't have any legs to run away with!

Yadina: Well, I guess we better get to work!

Xavier: Rawr! Rawr!

Brad: Look! We finally finished all of our models.

Yadina: And it feels pretty good.

Xavier: Meeting Mary Anning was pretty good, too.

Some people call her "The Princess of Paleontology"

because she was one of the best fossil hunters ever.

Yadina: She found the very first complete fossil

of an ichthyosaur.

And a ton of other species, too!

Brad: They helped us know more about the earth,

and what amazing creatures lived here before us.

All: Whoooa! Weee!

Brad: Aaaaah-aaah-aaaaah!

Xavier: Whoooa! Yadina: Wow!

Xavier: Cool!

Yadina: He made movies that looked a little like this.

Yadina: What is Charlie doing?

Hannah: (laughter) He's singing...

just like I did.

Yadina: Oh boy.

Brad: (giggles) It's kinda...funny.

Yadina: But, the audience, they'll be so upset!

We have to stop him!

Xavier: Wait, Yadina. Look!

Yadina: They're starting to smile?

Hannah: Yes! You can help people

feel better by making them laugh.
