02x14 - City of Water

Post by bunniefuu »

I, Kamijo Toma, am an unlucky person.

Just look back over the last seven days of the Daihasei Festival,

and you'll be able to tell.

Even having cleared up the outrageous problem from the first day,

from the second day onward,

I accidentally witnessed Miss Komoe changing...

...immediately got head-butted by a completely recovered Fukiyose Seiri...

...was hit by a gumball from the wheelchair Himegami Aisa was in...

...and right as I was being forced to do a folk dance with Misaka Mikoto...

I took a dropkick to the back of the head from Shirai Kuroko.

For some reason, I feel run pretty ragged now.

To repeat, I, Kamijo Toma, am an unlucky--

Congratulations!

In the Spectator Numbers game, held on the last day of the Daihasei Festival,

the number you selected took first place!

Your prize is... a -day, -night trip for two to Northern Italy!

"st Place: Northern Italy (-day, -night trip for two)" Your prize is... a -day, -night trip for two to Northern Italy!

"Spectator Numbers"

Huh? A trip to Italy?

"A Certain Magical Index II"

I gazed at the coin I had flipped

If it's heads I go, tails I stay

Let me know your answer first

"Please, won't you tell me?"

But the angel continued to smile in discernment

Wander on! There's nobody to lead you by the hand

The answer handed down from God is one of woe

Yes, that is what your gift from God is

Once you overcome it, you'll start to see, so right now... (Look for it by oneself, no buts about it)

No buts!

Not to keep harping on it, but I, Kamijo Toma, am an unlucky person.

I don't have a passport, do I?!

Hmm? What's a passport?

I knew it, all right. I knew this would happen from the start.

And it's only two days to the trip.

Even if I requested a passport today-- Huh?

Well if it isn't my passport!

What do you know? Have I ever gone overseas?

Toma! Toma! I've got something a lot like that!

Hey, you don't have any stamps or writing in here, you know!

Just how did you manage to get all the way here?

So anyway, Toma,

if I've got one of those,

does that mean I can go on your trip together with you?

Er... Huh?

Right now, I get the feeling it would be okay.

Despite the fact that I'm an unlucky person.

"International Airport"

You haven't forgotten anything, right?

Your wallet, your passport, your plane ticket,

your necessary documents, something to change into...

Eh, what else?

Toma! Toma! Why are you being such a worrywart over this?

Y-Yeah, you're right. Yeah, it's okay to enjoy this, isn't it?

Okay! For these seven days and five nights in Northern Italy,

I'm going to relish some happiness

for the first time in a long, long while!

Yeah!

U-Uh, is something wrong?

What is this?

Huh?

Damn! We have to run, Index! You need something more proper to wear,

or they won't let us on the plane!

Huh? What, Toma? You're going to buy me some clothes?

The shopping area is another . kilometers ahead.

We only have twenty-eight minutes before the plane takes off!

Damn it! I knew this would be my luck!

Man, we sure are close to the sea, huh?

It would be more accurate to say the sea surrounds us

than to say we're close to it. The center of Chioggia here

is an island city in the Adriatic Sea.

Oh, yeah?

Whoo... after running around buying a ton of safety pins

after getting to the airport and having our guide leave us behind,

I was worried there for a second what would happen,

but we finally made it here.

For you to survive in an international society nowadays, Toma,

you should speak at least three languages.

Ungh, having a crazy Sister like you talking to me about

"nowadays" and "at leasts" is too much.

We can eat after we drop off our luggage at the hotel.

I know! You don't have to come out and say so!

--Listen, the food is fine and all,

--Is that authentic squid ink gelato? --Listen, the food is fine and all,

--Is that authentic squid ink gelato? --but once we finish checking in,

let's go into Venice!

I've always wanted to ride in a gondola!

Huh?

Hey! Index!

Index!

Hey! Index!

If I keep this up, I'm the one who'll end up lost.

[speaking Italian]

Huh?

[speaking Italian]

"H-Hallo." No, that's not it. What is it?

[speaking Italian]

Oh, should I not have done that just now?

It looked to me like you were at a loss as to what to do.

O-Orsola?

Yes.

What are you doing in a place like this?

Oh, I kind of won a -day, -night trip to Northern Italy.

For that matter, Orsola, why are you here?

I thought you were in London.

I still kept a residence here until just the other day.

When I, you know, moved from the Roman Orthodox Church

to the English Puritan Church, it was a bit of a commotion.

I still have some things remaining here,

but the Amakusa are kind enough to help out, just like movers.

Wait, the Amakusa? You mean those Amakusa?

By the way, were you out shopping?

Huh? Oh, no, actually,

while I'm glad to have come here together with Index,

she up and disappeared somewhere.

Then our meeting here is a turn of fate.

This works out perfectly. Can I ask you to help me move my things?

Huh?

Well, like I said, I have to find Index, so...

Oh, if you are looking for Miss Index...

Huh?

Toma! Toma! Toma!

Toma! As delicious as the gelato is here,

this is still the discount, economy size!

Yum!

...I saw her pressed up against the window of a storefront

specializing in gelato a short while ago,

so I asked a friend of mine to invite her back to my residence.

And you left me behind...

Ah, Orsola, is lunch ready yet?

Yes, it is almost time.

Hooray!

Just my luck.

That is the man who is a respected colleague of His Holiness?

But then, how powerful can he be?

You only question as much

because you did not assist in rescuing Sister Orsola.

That is the gentleman who went up against

the Roman Orthodox Warrior Sisters unarmed,

and declared w*r against them all by himself.

He has also witnessed the Priestess in the altogether,

and despite being belted by her Shichiten Shichito sword's sheath,

he did not even need bandaging afterward.

He's a monster.

What kind of screwed-up appraisal is that?

--Wow! This looks delicious! --Wow! This looks delicious!

But are you sure? We haven't helped out with moving at all yet.

The offering of my hospitality to you two comes first.

Well, don't mind if we do.

Would you like to use this?

Thanks.

Not at all.

Itsuwa, how do you feel your wet towel operation went?

You dummy, it's too soon to see any results.

Let things run their course.

--Isn't this kind of taking the long way?

--Aren't they going to eat with us? --Isn't this kind of taking the long way?

They said that they are in training or something,

and that they must observe a set meal etiquette.

Toma!

Go ahead, please, before your food becomes cold.

Okay, then--

--Thank you for this meal! --Thank you for this meal!

--Yum! --Yum!

What is this? Can pasta really be this delicious?

This tastes about times better than what you always make, Toma.

You've got no right to complain,

but this really is good, so who cares? Yum!

Yum! Yum!

By the way, is the purpose of your trip to see Venice?

Well, yeah it is, but we can't seem to reach our tour guide.

I would love for you to see Venice.

"The City of Water," "The Queen of the Adriatic,"

it is expressed in many ways, so beautiful the city is.

Well then, I guess we'll go have a look. Index...

(As long as I have this food, I could stay here forever)

What are you even saying?

All righty...

I guess packing the dishes is next.

Orsola! Where did you say your stock of newspaper is?

It is right over here.

The pairing of that voice and the sound of water means...

Wah! Toma!

I'm starting to get all dirty.

If you like, you are welcome to take a shower.

You must be worn out from your long trip.

Whoa-ho! It's the old bathroom trap, is it?

Whew, I almost fell for it, too--

A voice coming from here, too?

What is this? What the hell is going on?

It's a fundamental premise that there are not two bathrooms.

One of them will be, the other one won't be.

Damn, what kind of choice between two extremes is this?!

Right... no, left... No, wait!

The shower sounds are only coming from the left,

so the correct answer is... the right!

I figured it out!

At that moment, I wondered to myself,

why didn't I think of the simple solution

"A Certain Magical Index II" why didn't I think of the simple solution

"A Certain Magical Index II" of knocking first to make sure what was inside?

"A Certain Magical Index II"

Huh?

U-Um...

Wah! This way's the bathroom?!

I-I'm sorry, Orsola!

Gah!

Th-There's a stifling breeze coming out of this stick with a roar--!

Wait, a bathroom on the right and the left?!

There are two bathrooms in this house?!

Y-Yes. One for daily use,

and the second one was put in for religious use.

Now, because of the move,

its function as a baptistery has been discontinued.

This is outrageous! I call foul!

Toma...

Why are you here to begin with, Toma?

And why, after seeing us naked, do I not hear you saying you're sorry?

W-Well, you see, Miss Index, I needed some newspaper, so--

Just my luck!

Oh, my goodness.

All right, if you would be so kind...

Thank you for all you have done, both of you.

I am so sorry to keep you occupied for so long.

What are you going to do now, Orsola?

Would you like to go around seeing the sights with us?

Oh, no, not at all. Are you asking me to follow along after you,

with the two of you heading to your hotel?

I mean, three's a crowd...

What? Three's a crowd?

No need to ask, and no need to know what she means, Index!

Besides, I would like to go around Chioggia and say my goodbyes.

I have lived in the city for a long time, after all.

That is something I don't exactly want you to see.

I may develop a less-than-dignified look on my face.

Okay.

Well, I will be leaving. If you ever get the chance,

I will invite you to my apartment in London, as well.

Yeah, same here. If you ever get to Japan again...

But before that happens, Toma may need to clean the place up.

No, this can't be...

Everyone, get down!

AATR.

Orsola!

Huh?

If Index was disturbed by this, it means...

Magic!

Huh?

Where's it coming from? Who's doing it?

Toma!

ISICBI.

What about the sn*per?!

It's all right. It's already dealt with.

Dealt with? What did you do?

If they are aiming at us from a distance,

then the situation here is being carefully relayed to the enemy.

Which means that no matter where they are,

they have to be taking in my spell intercept.

Is that the sn*per?!

W-What the...?

Damn, this is crazy!

How can something like this pop up out of the canal?

Orsola, let's just get in the boat!

R-Right.

This is glass... no, is it ice?

Toma! Are you okay?! Toma!

Why is a huge ship like this going down the canal?

It looks like we are headed away from land.

Yeah. Just where are they planning on heading?

What should we do? They appear to be searching for us.

I know. But...

...we can't really jump off to get away.

Let's just hide for now, and wait for our chance to escape.

Toma...

Damn, what is going on here?

Let's go.

Please excuse the intrusion.

Why would they go so far as to use something as outrageous as this

to come and att*ck me?

The robes they were wearing looked a lot like your habit, Orsola.

Yes, it is reasonable that you would take them to be members

of the Roman Orthodox Church.

Which means that this must concern the Book of the Law, all right.

That whole incident should have been settled

by my going over to the English Puritan Church.

This ship is not the enemy's stronghold;

one might say that it is just one part of the larger whole.

I guess Chioggia is too small a place for all of them to deploy.

Do you think Index is okay?

I can still use my cell phone,

but damn it, sure enough, she didn't charge hers.

Then again, will the signal reach out at sea?

I am not sure.

Th-The door!

This is bad! Hide someplace, Orsola!

But where, exactly?

Hell, right here!

First thing to do is to close the door--

Agnese...?

At a certain world's center,

I whispered that it was okay to be alone

I bent back the hands on the clock

and kept my eyes closed

You can't turn back time that has passed

but on that day, you showed me

that that's how it should be

The miracle of you being there as the seasons roll around

makes even the broken clock start up again

Right now, yeah, I may be a helpless piece of junk

but it's funny how I feel like I can change that

All because your voice is still here

for me, even now

"Preview"

"Preview" An outrageous operation that involves Agnese...

A secret organization, called the Queen of the Adriatic...

And Tatemiya?! You and the Amakusa, too?!

Next time, "Queen's Fleet."

When science and magic cross paths, the story begins.
