Leo: We live in a big, beautiful world.

Leo: I'm Leo.

Andy: I'm Andy.

Carmen: And I'm Carmen.

Our parents work in a circus that travels

all around the world and we travel with them.

Andy: So we never know where in the world we will end up next.

(train whistling)

Carmen: But wherever we go, we know that

Luna the Moon will be there with us.

Carmen: A prickly pair.

Honey: Wooo! Weee! Wooo! Weee!

(laughs)

Carmen/Honey: Tah dah diddly dahhhh!

Andy: Yeahhh Leo: Wooohoo!

Leo: Great performance, Carmen!

Andy: Yeah, what made you want to do a juggling act today?

Carmen: Because... The Prickly Brothers

are performing at the Circo tonight!

Carmen: They're twin porcupines named Ahmet...

...and Ali!

Carmen: The Prickly Brothers are amazing jugglers,

and the Circo is finally back in the place where they live!

Leo: Uhh... and where might that be?

Carmen: Let's ask the Magic Globe!

Magic Globe: Hi, everyone! Welcome to Istanbul!

Magic Globe: Istanbul is an amazing city

in the country of Turkey.

It is a very special city

because it's on two different continents!

Honey: What's a continent?

Magic Globe: You see, Honey, every city we visit

lies on a big piece of land called a country.

Magic Globe: And every country is on an even

bigger piece of land, called a continent!

Magic Globe: There are seven continents on Earth.

... ... ... ... ... ... ...

Magic Globe: And all seven continents make up our globe

(giggles) me!

Honey: Ooooohhh. I get it!

Magic Globe: Istanbul is a very special city

because it's on two different continents.

Europe and Asia!

Divided by a waterway called

the Bosphorus Strait.

All: Thanks, Magic Globe!

Fabuloso: Here they come!

Fabuloso: The Prickly Brothers, Hockbar!

They're here!

Carmen: (gasp) The Prickly brothers!

Carmen: They're here?!

Fabuloso: Why, yes! In that truck over yonder!

(honk! honk!)

Hockbar: Uhh, Señor...

are you sure they're not in that truck over there?

(honk! honk!)

(screech!)

Ahmet: Ah! Heya!

Ali: Heyya!

Ali/Ahmet: Ah! Tah dah diddly... Whaaahh?

Both: What are you doing here?!

Ahmet: Why, I've come to perform for the Circo!

Ali: No, baby brother, I've come to perform for the Circo!

Ali/Ahmet: What? This is an outrage.

(arguing)

Fabuloso: Excuse me, Prickly gentlemen...

We would of course expect you two brothers

to perform...together!

Ahmet: We used to perform together, señor.

Ali: Now we don't even live on the same continent!

Ahmet: I live on the Asian side of Istanbul.

Ali: And I live on the European side.

Ali/Ahmet: We are tah dah diddly...

Ali/Ahmet...not yoldash!

Fabuloso: Not what-dash?

Ali: Yoldash!

It's a Turkish word that means we are both...

in it together!

Ali: Which we are not.

I now perform all by myself,

in my superior solo act.

Ali: I no longer just juggle... I now also do...

Interpretive dance!



Andy: Cool!



Ali: Tahh diddly... Take that, baby brother!

Andy: Baby brother?

Andy: Aren't you guys twins?

Ali: Yes, we are a prickly pair.

But Ahmet was born one second later than me,

so I call him baby brother. (laughs)

It is very funny! He loves it!

Ahmet: Grrr. Well,

since I moved to the Asian side of Istanbul...

I have developed my own solo act.

Something much less silly than my brother's.

Ahmet: Balloon animals!

(loud blowing)

Leo: Ooooh...

Leo: I love balloon animals!

Ahmet: Everyone does, child...

Ahmet: Tah-dah-diddly better than my brother!

Carmen: Ahmet, Ali... what is this?

You can't do solo acts!

Carmen: The Prickly Brothers have always performed together!

Fabuloso: I'm afraid I must agree with little Carmen here.

Fabuloso: Circo Fabuloso is not interested in solo acts

of dances and balloons!

Not together...

not Fabuloso!

Ahmet: Well then, Señor, there will be no show!

I will return to my home, on the Asian side of Istanbul.

Hup! Heyya!

(thunk)

Ahmet: Good-tah-dah-diddly-bye!

(engine revs) (tires squeal)

Carmen: Nooo! Ahmet! Come Back!

Follow that porcupine!

Andy: Wait a second....

Ali: What?? What is this?

I didn't agree to this!

Fabuloso: Well, Hockbar,

I suppose we must go with performance Plan B.

Here. Put on this fish suit

and slather me in marmalade.

We've got a show to do!

Hockbar: (groan) Not again...

Carmen: Ahmet's tire tracks end here guys!

Ali: Well that makes sense,

this ferry boat takes people across the Bosphorus Strait

to the Asian side of Istanbul,

where Ahmet lives. You can put me down now.

Luna: Don't worry, Ahmet.

You brothers will be friends again in no time.

Ahmet: I don't think so, Luna...

(sniff) but thank you.

Andy/Carmen/Leo: Luna!



Ali: And Ahmet.

Carmen: ♪ Lunaaaa, come and play! ♪

Leo: ♪ Luna's here, what do ya say! ♪

Andy: ♪ Lunaaa. Bright as day! ♪

Andy/Carmen/Leo : ♪ Show us the world lead the way. ♪

Luna: Welcome to Istanbul, Turkey!

And hello to you too, Ali.

Ali: It's Ta-dah-diddly wonderful

to see you as always, Luna.

Ali: I wish I could say the same about my brother here.

Carmen: The Prickly Brothers aren't getting along!

Luna: I know, Carmen. It's so sad.

Carmen: They're supposed to perform for the Circo tonight

but they just want to do strange solo acts by themselves!

We need to get them back together!

Luna: Ali..? Ali: What's that, Luna?

Luna: Listen, I know you two might not live

on the same continent... but you're still brothers!

Luna: You're just like the two continents of Istanbul...

they may be separated...

...but they're still part of the same city.

Ali: I want to be Yoldash again, Luna,

but my baby brother...

I don't know what his problem is!

Ahmet: Ugh, see Luna?!

Ahmet: He just doesn't understand...

Luna: C'mon, think of all the wonderful memories you share.

You must have so many,

growing up in the amazing city of Istanbul.



Luna: ♪ Istanbul, Istanbul... ♪

♪ Two continents, one city. ♪

♪ Like two brothers side by side... ♪

♪ Separated by the tide... ♪



♪ I feel the pull... ...of Istanbul! ♪

♪ I feel complete... ♪

♪ Where East and West meet. ♪

Ali: Yeah... maybe tah dee-dum,

we can live on opposite sides of the Bosporus strait

but still be two parts of the same thing, just like Istanbul?

Ali: What do you say?

Can we be the yoldash performers we were meant to be...

Ali, together with Ahmet, his baby brother?

Ahmet: Agh! Stop that!

Ali: Huh?! Stop what?!

Ahmet: That baby brother, tah-diddly nonsense!

Ahmet: I am not a baby!

Ali: But... it's funny... right?

Ta daaa? Because, you know, you were born

only one second later than me.

Ali: It's our joke!

Ahmet: No! It's your joke...

and my reason for moving away from you!

Because I am not a baby anymore...tah-dum!

Ali: Oh, Ahmet... I had no idea...

Ali: You have opened my eyes...

Ali: I did not know this was hurting you.

I promise to never tell that joke again,

I just want my brother back with me

tah-dah-diddly-duh?

Ahmet: (sobs) Yes...

that is what I want too.

But not as a baby,

as a brother!

Carmen: I'm so glad you two are talking again,

but can we finish this conversation

on the way back to the Circo?

Fabuloso: Now, Hockbar, slather me in marmalade.

Hockbar: Okay...

but remember the large number of ants we got last time.

It was quite a thing to get rid of.

Carmen: Stop slathering that flamingo with marmalade!

Carmen: The Prickly Brothers are back!

Fabuloso: You mean prickly not-brothers?!

Fabuloso: Did I not inform you that I had no interest

in your strange new solo acts?!

Carmen: But Señor Fabuloso,

they are yoldash again!

They're in it together and ready to perform as a team,

better than ever!

Ali: That's right! Ahmet: Tah-dah dee-dum dee-dum!

Fabuloso: Hmm... I will be the judge

of your tah-dahs and dee-dums.

Carmen: Re-introducing! Fabuloso: Oooh...

Carmen: The brand new and improved...even more amazing

...Pricky brothers!

Carmen: And now,

in a feat of togetherness never before seen...

Carmen: The brothers use their new talents...together!

Ali/Ahmet: Yoldash... yoldash... yoldash...

Yoldash... yoldash... yoldash...

Hockbar: I love animal balloons! It's really a dying art.

Carmen: As the balloon animals pile up...

...the brothers prepare for their spectacular finale!

Ali/Ahmet: Hup!

(popping)

Ali/Ahmet: Tah dah diddly doo-dad dah!

Carmen/Andy/Leo/Luna: (cheer)

Fabuloso: (crying)

(sniff) Ay, it's so beautiful.

This togetherness is so...

so...

Fabuloso!

Fabuloso: Prickly Brothers!

You must perform in my Circo tonight!

Ali: We would love to...ta-dah!

Fabuloso: Thank you!

Ahmet: And thank you, Carmen, for reuniting my brother

and tah dah diddly me!

Ali: Yes!

It is so good to be yoldash with my brother again!

Carmen: You're welcome Prickly Brothers!

I'm happy you're yoldash again too!

So how about those Prickly Brothers, Luna?

Uh, Luna?

Luna: Out here, Carmen.

Carmen: There you are, Luna!

Carmen: I'm so glad we could help the Prickly Brothers

get back together,

even though they live on different continents!

I wonder what else we could learn about Istanbul?

Luna: There's more to do on any continent we visit,

in one city or another.

But remember, there's always tomorrow.

(whistling theme song)



Hockbar: Hello everyone, it's Hockbar!

Here is a shadow puppet story that I learned about in Turkey.

Hockbar: Here is Karagoz. He is a bit of a joker.

Hockbar: And here is his friend Hacivat.

He is serious and proper.

Hockbar: (as Hacivat) Oh, Karagoz! I'm so miserable!

Hockbar: (as Karagoz) Hacivat, what's the matter?

Hockbar: (as Hacivat) I've lost my money purse,

my good handkerchief and...

(sniff, crying) my lucky hat!

(starts crying)

Hockbar: (as Karagoz) Don't cry, Hacivat.

How did you lose so many things?

Hacivat: I don't know!

Just help me find them!

Karagoz: Okay, okay. Well, you're in luck!

Hacivat: You found my things?

Karagoz: I did not find your things!

Hacivat: What? Why did you say you did?

Karagoz: I said you're in luck!

Because today, I learned magic!

Hacivat: Magic? Karagoz: Yes!

And I am going to use magic to find your things!

Hacivat: This is ridiculous.

Karagoz: Don't say that!

Say the magic words.

Say "Rooty, Scooty, Rah!"

Hacivat: Rooty... scooty... skah!

Karagoz: "Rah!" Hacivat: Bah!

Karagoz: No, Rah! Rah!

Hacivat: Rah! Rah! Enough, Karagoz!

My Lucky hat?

--You found my things!

Karagoz: No, not me.

Your mother found them. I'm returning them for her <span> .

Do you like my magic?

Hacivat: Grr Karagoz!

You make everything so difficult!

Karagoz: (laughs)

I hope I can be forgiven!

Hockbar: And that is how all Karagoz stories end,

so... the end! (kids cheering)

Leo: Turkish delight.

Leo: Butter.

(splat)

Chocolate.

Eggs.

Wolfgang: Don't forget to put a little

baking soda in there Leo.

But just a teaspoon.

Leo: (gasps) Right, baking soda.

Leo: (humming)

But I like my brownies extra fluffy!

Leo: There!

Leo: All right, the brownie batter is all done.

Good work, Assistant Chef Wrinkles.

Wrinkles: (wheezs) Wolfgang: Good work, Leo!

Wolfgang: Uh, what's going on with your brownie batter?

(boom!)

Leo/Wolfgang: (screams) Aaaaaaaaaagh!

Wolfgang: Leo! What did you do?

You didn't put in too much baking soda did you?

I specifically told you just a teaspoon.

Leo: But I wanted the brownies to be extra fluffy!

I'm sorry Papa!

Wolfgang: You're usually a good cook,

but lately you've been having a hard time

following directions.

Leo: Wait. Where's Wrinkles?

(wheezing) Leo: Look!

There he is in the tree! Wrinkles: (wheeze)

Wolfgang: He must have gotten blasted up there

with the brownie blow up.

Leo: How are we going to get him down?

(sirens) (honking)

Timur: Istanbul Fire Department at your service.

Somebody need rescuing?

Leo: Yes, my tortoise Wrinkles! He's up in that very tall tree!

Timur: Hup-hup-hup-hup

(stretching efforts)

Whoa! Whoaa!

Leo: (gasps) Be careful!

Timur: (stretching) Gotcha!

Leo/Wolfgang: Hooraay!

Timur: Here's your wrinkly pet, son.

Safe and sound.

Leo: Uh... the... umm...

Timur: Now I must go.

The brave duties of a firefighter never end.

Wolfgang: Well, Leo...I hope you learned something.

Wolfgang: Leo? Are you listening to me?

Oh, forget it.

Andy/Carmen: Leo!

Carmen: We saw the fire truck! Are you guys all right?

Leo: We sure are, thanks to the firefighter!

He risked his life to save Wrinkles from a tree.

And I couldn't get myself to say thank you.

What have I done?!

Carmen: It's okay, Leo.

You can thank him some other time.

Leo: You're right!

I'll have to find him and thank him.

Maybe I can get him a gift of some sort.

Leo: Yeah, that's it!

Maybe some sort of sweet treat from... wait...

what city are we in?

Magic Globe: I can answer that!

Hey, everyone!

Today we are in the city of Istanbul, located in Turkey.

Here in Istanbul,

people put a lot of importance on family.

There is a deep respect for elders,

which can be shown in many ways.

One way children greet their older relatives

is by kissing the back of their hand and resting

it on their forehead.

Leo: Okay okay. That's great and all...

...but what kind of sweets do people eat here?

Magic Globe: Oh! Well, maybe Turkish Delight?

Magic Globe: It's a sugary chewy candy

that's very popular in the city!

They're usually small, bite-sized cubes

covered in powdered sugar.

(chuckles) The way to say "Thanks" in Turkish is

"Tesekkurler".

Carmen/Andy/Leo: Tesekkurler, Magic Globe!

Leo: That Turkish Delight sounds

like a perfect gift for my fireman friend.

Carmen: Do you even know where we can find

Turkish Delight, Leo?

Luna: Awwwright!

Luna: Ha! I win again!

Yusuf: Please... no more.

Carmen/Andy/Leo: It's... Luna!

Carmen: ♪ Luna come and play. ♪

Leo: ♪ Luna's here whaddya say? ♪

Andy: ♪ Luna bright as day. ♪

Carmen/Andy/Leo: ♪ Show us the world lead the way. ♪

Luna: Hey, everyone!

Luna: My friend Yusuf and I were just playing some backgammon.

Yusuf: Hello, children.

Luna: What've you guys been up to?

Carmen: We were on our way to buy Turkish Delight!

Leo: Yeah! It's a thank-you gift for someone I respect.

Yusuf: Turkish delight, you say?

Why, I happen to own a candy shop...

...right behind us!

Yusuf: Why don't you come in

and I'll show you all the Turkish Delight I make?

Carmen/Andy/Leo: Yeah!

Yusuf: This is my candy store.

Carmen/Andy/Leo: Woooow.

Yusuf: People in Istanbul have enjoyed Turkish Delight

for over years.

Yusuf: Please, try one!

Leo: (chomp) It's delicious!

Yusuf: Great!

So how many boxes were you thinking of buying?

Leo: Actually, Mr. Yusuf...

I'm a pretty good chef.

Do you think I can make some Turkish Delight instead?

I'm thinking that would be more of a special gift for my friend.

Yusuf: A chef, huh?

I teach a class in making Turkish Delight.

Maybe you'd like to try your hand at it?

Luna/Carmen/Andy/Leo: Yeah!

Yusuf: Alright kids, go ahead and take a spot,

at one of the stoves.

Yusuf: Don't touch anything just yet!

Luna: Hey guys, you should never start cooking

unless a grown-up is with you.

Yusuf: You'll find the ingredients already measured

and laid out at your station.

Leo: Pffft!

Only six ingredients?

Leo: This is too easy for a great chef like me

Yusuf: This recipe may look simple, but don't be fooled!

Listen to me if you want your Turkish Delight

to turn out right!

Luna: And if anyone needs help, just ask!

Leo: Don't worry about me, Luna!

I've got this under control!

Yusuf: First, take your big bowl of sugar and mix it with

one and a half cups of water.

Yusuf: You should have some water left over.

Andy: (laughs)

Leo: Add waterrr...

Leo: Aaand corn starch, why not? Luna: Hmmm.

Leo: There... always one step ahead!

Luna: Interesting technique you've got there, Leo.

Need some help?

Leo: Nope, I'm good! Luna: Are you sure?

Leo: Don't worry, Luna.

I've got this recipe all figured out.

Luna: If you say soooo...

Luna: Ooh, I can't wait to try some delicious Turkish Delight!

I just hope everyone is happy with the way theirs turns out...

Leo: (slurping) (smacks lips)

Luna: ♪ Turkish delight... ♪



♪ Love at first bite... ♪

♪ Tasty and sweet. ♪

♪ If you make it right... ♪

♪ Listening is key... ♪

♪ I guarantee... ♪

Leo: Ack! Bleaugh!!

Yeeuuck!

(bang!)

(boom!)

Timur: (sips)

Pfft! A fire? Not on my watch!

Hup!

(sirens)

Hup! Hup! Hup!

(bang)

Luna/Yusuf/Carmen/Andy/Leo: (coughing)

Yusuf: Wait! Stop! There's no fire here!

It's only powdered sugar!

Leo: (coughing) Timur: Hmm?

Timur: Wait a minute, you're the little blue wombat from before!

Leo: And you're the fire fighter who saved Wrinkles!

Yusuf: (amused) This is your hero?

The one we're making Turkish Delight for?

Yusuf: Ha ha ha ha!

Andy: What's so funny?

Yusuf: Leo's firefighter is my son, Timur!

Luna: Well, how about that!

Leo: Luna, what is Timur doing?

Luna: Here in Turkey,

kissing the hand of your elders is a sign of respect.

Carmen: Just like Magic Globe taught us this morning!

Timur: Now, what's this about making me Turkish Delight?

Yusuf: Young Leo here wanted to make you a thank you gift

for saving his tortoise this morning.

Luna: Go on, Leo. Show Timur what you've made.

Leo: Ummm... I think I may have messed up

the recipe a teeny bit.

Timur: If my father was helping you,

I'm sure it can't be that bad!

(screeching) (sounds of shock and revulsion)

Leo: I'm sorry! I wanted to say thank you...

I mean, Tesekkurler.

Leo: I didn't follow Yusuf's directions

because I thought I didn't need to!

I figured I was a great chef who didn't need any help!

Now my thank-you gift is ruined,

just like the brownies this morning...

and it's all because I didn't listen!

(sniff)

Yusuf: When I was a young boy,

I thought I knew everything too.

But after many recipes gone awry,

I realized I had much to learn

and turned to my own father for help.

Leo: I guess I still have a lot to learn from my own dad too.

I'm sorry I ruined your thank you gift, Timur.

Timur: That's okay, little guy. Would you like to try again?

Timur: If you ask nicely and promise to listen this time,

I'm sure my father would be happy to help!

Leo: Really?! That'd be great!

Although... do you think we could double the recipe?

There's someone else I should thank too.

Leo: Papa, I'm home!

Wolfgang: Welcome back, son!

Leo: I brought you something I made with help from a friend.

It's called Turkish Delight!

Wolfgang: Well it looks Turkish delight-ful!

(hardy laugh)

Leo: I'm sorry I didn't listen this morning.

Leo: Thank you for being so patient with me.

Tesekkurler, Papa. That means thank you in Turkish.

Wolfgang: Aw, shucks.

Whaddaya say we get the kitchen cleaned up and try

baking some more brownies!

Leo: Yes, please! Wolfgang: Great!

You can start by taking that rug outside

to shake off the brownie batter.

Ha ha ha ha.

Luna: (munching)

Leo: Hi, Luna! Back in the sky already?

Luna: Mmmhh!

Leo: Thanks for helping me today.

It wasn't until I saw Timur kissing his father's hand

that I realized how lucky I am to have my own dad!

Luna: It's good to listen to people with more

experience than you.

With your dad's help, I'm sure you'll be a great chef some day!

Leo: Thanks, Luna!

I feel like there's so much more to learn about Istanbul, Turkey!

Luna: There's always more to learn about any place we go.

But remember, there's always tomorrow...
