Magic Globe: Peru is well known around the world for its
beautiful fabrics, made by hand,
using very special weaving techniques.
Carmen: What? More weaving stuff?
Your mom keeps trying to teach me to weave
but it sounds boring!
Andy: Yeah... she does that.
Magic Globe: (laughs)
Weaving in Peru is anything but boring, Carmen.
Magic Globe: People use wool from an animal called an Alpaca,
to make beautifully patterned fabrics of all kinds!
Leo: Like our blankets!

Leo: How the cactus got its prickly spines.
Leo: Hi, it's Leo, with a folktale from Peru.
Once, back before he had any prickly spines,
a cactus was feeling sad.
Leo: That's because, since he had no
prickly spines to defend himself,
the llamas, vicuñas and alpacas
enjoyed snacking on him.
(munch munch)
Leo: Suddenly, he heard a scream: "Help me!"
It was a fox being chased down the mountain by a rolling stone.
(bash)
(bash, crash, smash, slam)
"Run toward me!" cried Cactus.
Fox ran toward him but at the last second,
Cactus gave a signal,
Fox veered off,
and the stone slammed into Cactus.
(crash)
Stopping with a thud.
Leo: Cactus felt a strange sensation
and realized he was growing prickly spines
that looked a lot like Fox's nails.
The spines were a gift of thanks from Fox.
Cactus was happy to have a new friend
and even happier that the llamas, vicuñas and alpacas
were no longer interested in gobbling him up.
(crunch) Alpaca: Ahh!

Leo: Nice to meet you, machu picchu.
Fabuloso: Ladies and gentlemen,

and was the capital of the Inca Empire.

by the Inca called Machu Picchu!
Magic Globe: Machu Picchu was built of stone,
high in the Andes Mountains of Peru.
To some, Machu Picchu is known as "The Lost City",
but that's because--

The reason a Lost City sounds so Fabuloso
is because everybody here in Cusco
has already visited the Circo this week,
