KIDS: That's Pinka-tastic!

CHILD: Today we are working

with Shaumba Dibinga.

She is a dancer

and a director.

Yay![applause]

CHILD: And we're at Mass Audubon's

Boston Nature Center.

Today I want to work with you on balancing.

Let's try bringing one leg up,

then maybe we can lift our arms straight up!

CHILD: Balance is kind of about focus.

Nice job, shake your legs out!

CHILD: And we did a whole bunch

of fun stuff to balance and to dance.

We're gonna push up to the sky eight times.

One, two...

She went through one step at a time.

SHAUMBA: Two times to the right!

Two times to the left!

CHILD: We were doing it one step at a time, yes.

Because if she just did the whole dance, we would be like,

"What just happened?"

And we would get the dance mixed up.

SHAUMBA: Up, clap, shoulder, shoulder!

Shoulder, shoulder, yes!

So we're gonna try it from the very, very beginning.

Are we ready?KIDS: Yes!

SHAUMBA: All right, let's get this going.

Dancing will make you more flexible.

CHILD: And dancing

gives you a lot of exercise.

It felt so nice!

CHILD: In my opinion,

it went great,

because dancing is one of the funnest things

I can do.

Don't worry, Pinkalicious.

I have enough shells for both...

of us-- oops.

[sighs]

I was going to build a bird bath with my shells.

[sighs] I was going to put mine in the garden.

So the snails would feel at home.

What do we do now?

Hmm.

Let's see.

Maybe this.

This...

is the most beautiful thing we've ever made.

I wish we had more shells.

Then we could fill this whole beach with our design.

Let's go get some!

Oh, right.

Hey, Pinkalicious! Hey, Peter!

Look how many shells we found!

There were millions.

Zillions!

I've never seen so many.

Whoa.

Did you do that?

It's amazing.

Wow, guys.

Just, wow.

We want to make it even bigger!

But we ran out of shells.

Now this really is the most pinka-mazing thing

we've ever made!

It's like a mandala!

Huh?

A mandala.

I made some in art class last summer.

They're from India!

Like Peter said, huh?

Mandalas are beautiful circle designs, just like this.

Usually they're made from sand,

but you can make them from pretty much anything.

Like shells?

RAFAEL: Mm-hm, shells or beads or flowers.

What's cool is the circle kind of shows

how everything is connected.

Oh!I love that!

I don't think we're done yet.

I think we should make our mandala even bigger!

Let's make it go all the way to the water!

Only, we need a lot more shells.

[trumpets loudly]

Attention, shell collectors!

If you have any shellsto spare

and want to help make something beautiful,

please come join us right away!

MOMMY: Ooh, what a beautiful mandala!

PETER: Rafael told us about them!

They're circles...

of something good?

[chuckles] One way to think of it is that mandalas are special,

powerful circles that help create a sense of peace.

The center is the most important part.

I see you have an extra special pink shell in your center.

And I added those.

They're scallop shells!

It's a wonderful thing you've done.

A gift to the beach.

We had lots of help, actually.

Thank you for helping us, everyone!

I wish my mom could see this.

She would love it.

[gasps]

Maybe we could have the whole town see it!

We could put a rope around it,

so no one accidentally steps on it,

then have a big party!

ALL [chanting]: Party, party, party!

Unfortunately, there isn't time for that.

This will be gone in a few hours.

What do you mean, gone?

Why can't it stay?

Because the tide is rising.

But, but, I thought that was as high as it went!

Afraid not.

At high tide, the water will be all the way...

up there.

In a few hours, these shells will get washed back to sea.

[groaning]Oh no!

Why didn't we think about the tide?

All that work for nothing!

Couldn't you make an invention to stop it, Mommy?

[chuckles] Sorry, Peter.

Tides are controlled by the moon, not by people.

But what if you made an un-moon, and put it in the sky,

and whatever the moon does, it undoes?

[laughing]

That's beyond my powers.

But listen, just because it won't last,

doesn't make your mandala any less beautiful.

And it is beautiful.

[sighs]I guess.

Okay.Thank you.

[sighs] I'm going home.

I don't want to stay and watch this get wrecked.

PINKALICIOUS: Wait! Don't go!

Maybe we can find a way to protect our mandala.

[gasps]

We could build a giant wall of sand!

Right there!

Sand won't keep the water out.

A wall of rocks, then.

Like that!

It's worth a try, come on!

Lift on three!

One, two, three!

[all straining]

Try smaller rocks!

On four this time.

[quickly]: One, two, three... four!

[straining, groaning]

[laughing]

[waves crashing]

[gasps]

Go away, tide.

We don't want you!

[grunting]

Ha, check it out!

[wails]

[gasps]

It's not the tide's fault, Peter.

Yeah, tides just do what they do.

[sighs]I know.

I just wish there was someone who could help us.

Someone who knows about moon things and tide things.

Ooh!

Moonie, hello!

It's me, Aqua!

Could you hold back the tide

so their mandala doesn't get ruined?

For you, Aqua, anything!

Thank you, Moon!

Wahoo, I owe you!

Give my regards to Venus and Mars!

Why didn't I think of that?

Mommy, Daddy?

We're going to the aquarium,okay?

Yes, that's fine.

[panting]

We made this huge mandala out of shells!

[panting]: Only we didn't know the tide...

[panting]: ...would come up and wreck it!

[panting]: Is there anything you can do...

...To save it?

AQUA: Wow.

This...Yes?

Yes?

AQUA: Is something.

Quite, quite something.

As in, beautiful.

Can you help us?

We thought if anyone could think of a way

to stop the tide, it would be you.

I can do many things, this is true.

In this case...

I can do nothing, sorry.

KIDS: Nothing?

[all sigh]

PINKALICIOUS: We just wanted more time.

Time to show everyone what we made and how pretty it is.

JASMINE: And we wanted to have a party.

Go ahead.

Have the party!

But there's nothing to celebrate!

Of course there is!

The ocean gave you these shells,

you turned them into something beautiful,

and now the ocean is taking them back!

What's not to celebrate?

Well, but, hardly anyone got to see it!

You saw it.

Everyone here saw it.

It's like when you make a snow angel or a leaf pile to jump in,

they're not meant to last forever.

You enjoy it while you can, right?

Maybe we could have a party

to watch the tide take back the shells.

And invite whoever's on the beach.

That is a fabulous idea.

Plenty of algae back at my place.

Happy to share.

[cheers, waves splashing]

Bye, mandala!

[cheering, laughing]

Whoo-hoo, go tide, go!

I'm so happy!

A little sad, but happy, too!

Tomorrow's tide will bring the shells back.

You can make another mandala, if you want.

And another.

And another.

And another!

ALL: And another!

[laughter]

Will you help us, Aqua?

Aqua?

Where'd you go?

Huh, she was here just a minute ago.

AQUA:Wahoo!

This is the best part about tides!

Catching a wave!

[laughter]
