Tally-ho!

Hey, Squeeks, sweet idea to come to the apple orchard!

Oh, thanks, Daisy, no prob. I'm brilliant! It's fall!

Apple picking season!

But which tree should we pick from? This one? Or that one?

And which apples should we pick?

Oh, there's so many to choose from!

I don't even know where to begin!

NATURE CAT: Tally-ho!

And he sticks the landing!

Hey, how about we pick from this apple tree?

Oh, yeah! Bingo!

That's the one!

Man, oh, man, these apples are delicious!

Apples!

(Muffled speaking)

Hal, pal, you got to finish chewing before you talk, man!

Sorry!

Look, I was just asking, like,

how apples got up in those trees in the first place?

I mean, does someone make them?

Like an apple fairy? Or a magic spell?

Oh, is it the internet?

How long does it take? I mean, like, a long time?

Or a short time? Or no time?

Oh, so many questions!

I'm thinking the trees make the apples, Hal.

And it probably takes some time.

The apples don't just appear overnight. They have to grow.

The tree? No way! But how?

Ooh, this actually reminds me

of one of my all-time favorite nature stories.

It's a nature story that will actually help answer

all of Hal's apple questions!

Yes!

What's the story? I love stories!

Get all comfy-cozy

because it's time to tell my version of

Johnny Appleseed.

This is Johnny Appleseed! Handsome fellow, huh?

Johnny Appleseed was actually his nickname.

His real name was John Chapman,

a pioneer who lived a really long time ago with his family,

including his brother Nathaniel.

Hi, everyone! It's me, Nathaniel! Wink, wink.

And his sister Elizabeth.

Oh, hello!

Hey, where am I, Nature Cat?

Don't worry. Your part comes in later, Squeeks.

Oh, cool. I'm down with that.

Well, the time has come for me to bid you adieu.

For you see, I must venture forth

on an amazing apple adventure!

Where are you going, dear?

Go westward, young cat!

Yes, father! Westward it is!

I shall go forth to plant apple orchards by seed!

Now, what am I going to need?

Hey, Johnny, do you want to take this?

You might need it to cook on the campfire.

Uhh, well I don't really have any more room.

But you're probably right.

Hm.

A-ha, look here, stylish and functional.

Hey, I'm coming with you.

You're really going to need my green thumb!

Ooh, me too! Pick me! Pick me! Pick me!

Can you help me grow apple trees?

You know it!

Can you talk about apples all day, every day,

for as long as we are gone?

Umm, probably?

Good enough for me! Tally-ho!

So ready!

I'm ready too-too also!

Toodle-oo! Have fun!

The time has come for us to head west!

(Clearing throat)

West is the other way.

Ah, right, yes.

I'm so glad you're here!

Onward and Westward!

Whoa, this sure is beautiful, Johnny!

Man, oh, man, this view is incredible.

But boy, oh, boy, my dogs are barking.

Was I? Excuse me.

I just mean my feet are tired.

Hey, quick question, Johnny,

since I'm the one asking a lot of of questions in this episode:

Where did these apples seeds even come from?

Some sort of apple fairy?

Excellent question, my dog brother!

Let me show you!

Ta-da! Apple seeds!

Hi, little seeds. It's me Hal.

I mean, Nathaniel! Wink, wink.

They may be tiny now.

But every single one of them has the potential

to become a big, beautiful apple tree!

Really? Oh wow!

Greetings, travellers!

Welcome to the town of Apple Valley!

Why is it called Apple Valley?

I don't see any apple trees around here at all.

I know. Weird, right?

Not the best planning on our part.

Then it looks like we got here just in time!

I hereby proclaim that we are going to plant

our first apple orchard here!

Hooray for us! And hooray for apple trees!

Thank you, friends!

Plenty of sun, the soil looks good,

a perfect place to plant!

Then what say we plant our orchard! Tally-ho!

All this work sure is making me hungry!

I can't wait to have an apple to eat!

Are the apples ready yet? Now? How about now?

Uhh, Nature Cat, this part takes a really long time,

like, ten years. Maybe we should fast-forward.

Good idea, Squeeks. Here we go.

Wow! Take a look at these!

They're beautiful!

And smell those apple blossoms!

Wait a minute.

(Sniffing)

These are flowers, not apples.

Where are all the apples, Johnny?

Excellent question, my dear dog brother!

And the answer is, umm,

one that I know, or I thought I knew.

Yeah, no, I really don't know.

Elizabeth?

Hmm. Oh, here it is!

These blossoms actually need help

before they can turn into apples.

They need other apple trees nearby for pollination.

Polli-whose-y-whatsit now?

Oh! This is where you come in, Squeeks.

Oh, yeah, look out, here comes the mouse--

Uhh, or here--

Here comes the bee!

Wow, these blossoms sure smell beautiful!

Yikes! I'm all covered in yellow stuff! Gross!

No, no, it's cool.

It's pollen, the stuff used to pollinate apple blossoms.

Being covered in pollen is a good thing!

It's key to making apples!

"Pollen", huh? Okay, that's cool, I guess.

Yep! Now go to another tree! The pollen from both trees mix.

That's what the blossoms need to turn into apples!

Whoa, I have a big part in this!

So, are we ready to eat these apples now or what, guys?

No apples? Still?

'Cause I'd sure love some apples right about now.

(Clearing throat)

Excuse me. Can we fast-forward five months, please?

After the blossoms are pollinated,

the blossoms fall to the ground.

And seeds start to form.

Then, finally,

the apples grow around the seeds.

Great work, everybody! We did it!

Ta-da!

And ta-di!

Yuck!

Oh, yeah, no, I forgot.

Johnny Appleseed planted a different kind of apple tree.

Those apples were really sour.

My bad.

Hmm, yup.

These apples are only good for making cider

or feeding to livestock.

(Oinking)

But look at this!

Many years after Johnny Appleseed

planted his orchards,

people began growing different kinds of apple trees!

They found ways to make apples taste even sweeter!

Love this montage music, this is nice.

Just to name a few: Cortland apples in New York,

Ginger Gold apples in Virginia, Honeycrisp apples in Minnesota,

Red Delicious apples in Washington.

And as for us,

our apple quest continues! Who's with me?

I'm down with that!

Count the bee in!

Ooh! Pick me! Pick me! Pick me!

Farewell, travellers. And thank you!

Goodbye!

Planting more and more apple orchards as we head westward,

tally-ho!

Hey, Johnny, uhh, West is the other way.

But of course! Onward and Westward!

So, Johnny planted many more orchards

and then was ready to return home.

Hello again, my very attractive mother and father!

We're home!

And we had a apple-rific time!

And we brought you back something from our trip!

How do you like them apples?

Ooh! Apples!

Thanks, kids! My favourite!

And I know just what to do with these! Tally-ho!

Apple pie!

Ta-di! Wink, wink!

And that brings us back to today.

Boy, oh, boy! That was one sweet story, Nature Cat! Thanks!

Sure was!

And thanks to you, tree, for all the delicious apples!

Hey, you guys, that ending gives me an idea!

Oh, oh, oh, should we dress like pioneers for dinner?

Well, no, maybe some other time. But we can bake an apple pie!

Oh, yeah, that's better!

I've got a sweet recipe right here!

And I have the apples over here!

Then tally-ho!

Man, oh, man, we're almost done!

I know!

We've almost built the biggest sand castle ever!

Yep, in all the history of sand castles!

Maybe all the history of history!

That's an intense thought.

Yes! Nothing can stop us now!

Ah! What's that noise?

Whoa!

Daisy, are you all right?

(Gasping)

Our castle, we're going to have to start all over again!

Oh, I'm so sorry!

I just-- Oh! I keep hearing this sound that's so annoying.

Hmm. I don't hear anything.

Me either.

Me either neither too-too.

I guess my ears are just more sensitive than yours.

Ow!

Aww!

I can't stand to see Daisy's cute wittle ears so bothered!

We have to find out where this rogue sound is coming from.

Sounds like it's coming from across the lake.

"Across the lake"?

How could a sound get all the way from there to here?

Well, sound can travel pretty far, Hal.

I can hear you howling at the moon

when I'm all the way up on Butterfly Hills.

No way! That's far!

Squeeks is right.

Sound can travel far, especially over this lake water

where there's nothing to block it.

Oh, man, oh, man! There it is again!

It's like a beeping sound. Beep, beep, beep.

Not to worry, Daisy.

We will find that bothersome beep and stop it!

Scanning for sound, scanning for sound,

scanning.

I don't see any sound.

Hi, there!

Good day there! What say you, Fish?

I say we need help, lots of help!

Help! Help! Help!

Oh, no, what's wrong, you guys?

There's a terrible sound under water.

Does it sound like this? Beep, beep, beep.

You know, like that?

No, it sounds like a really loud boom!

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Whoa, you can hear sound underwater? Who knew?

Oh, yeah, we hear sounds.

And they tell us what's around us.

And we can even make sound!

But now there's this awful booming!

All that noise confuses us

and makes it hard for us to find food and school.

(Banging)

And that puts us in danger of becoming somebody's dinner!

And we can still hear that awful boom.

If it keeps up, we're going to be in big trouble!

Not to worry.

For all our fish friends and for Daisy, I, Nature Cat,

will find the beep and booms and stop all sounds!

Oh, boy, thanks, Nature Cat! You're the best!

Thanks, thanks, thanks.

Wait! I just heard the beep again.

And it's definitely coming from across the lake!

Well, what are we waiting for? Let's get over there!

Uhh, how exactly are we going to get there?

'Cause there's no way we're swimming.

And I don't see any other way across the lake.

All aboard for the other side of the lake!

Woo-hoo! Woo-hoo!

Water, why did it have to be water?

Onward and sound-ward!

Row, Hal, row!

Row, Hal, row!

Aye, aye, oh, captain, my captain!

(PIRATE VOICE): Hey, Nature Cat, do you see anything?

Not yet.

Daisy, me love, do you hear anything?

(NORMAL VOICE): Sorry, I don't know why I chose to be a pirate just then.

It was fun.

Listening, listening.

Oh, I hear it! Oh, it's getting louder!

Wait. I hear it too.

Me too-too!

Whoa, that beeping is so annoying!

I know, right? Ow! It's so loud!

Here, try these earmuffs, Daisy.

We're almost there! Nothing can stop us now!

(Gurgling)

Oh, no, a leak!

I got to stop saying that!

Aww, we're going to sink!

What do we do? What do we do?

I mean, what are we going to do!

I don't want to get wet!

Mouse to the rescue!

Mouse in the hole!

Way to go, Squeeks!

No prob, man, I got it!

We're back in business!

Onward and yonward!

Land ho!

The beeps are getting so much louder!

Same with the booms!

Too loud, too loud!

Hey guys, are we there yet?

Almost, Squeeks, almost!

You saved us, Squeeks!

Thanks. Hey, Nature Cat, now can you pull me out--

You sacrificed your body for your friends.

Who knows what might have happened

if you hadn't heroically and selflessly plugged that hole?

Nature Cat, can you pull me out, please? Now?

And not everyone would have done that, you know?

I mean, I would have, of course. But I'm much too large.

Nature Cat, please!

And Hal, hmm,

well, I'm not sure if Hal has it in him--

Pull me out!

Oh, sorry.

(Beeping)

Hey, wait a minute.

I can hear it now, those boisterous blaring beeps!

And they're getting louder.

We must be getting closer.

Closer to what? I mean, all I see is sand and water.

That's it, water! Remember what the fish said?

Yes. He said "Hi, there."

After that.

I believe he said--

And I'm pretty sure I'm quoting this correctly--

I think he said "We need help."

After that.

There's a terrible sound under the water.

Yes!

So, maybe if we go under the water,

we'll hear what the fish are hearing

and find out where the sound is coming from.

A sound plan, Squeeks.

Get it? "Sound plan"?

No, you guys are right. It's not the time for jokes.

All right, scuba gear on!

Woo-hoo! Woo-hoo!

Aren't you coming, Nature Cat?

Of course I'm coming.

I mean, we have to help those fish, right?

Then on the other hand--

Come on, Nature Cat, it's just water.

That's the problem. But I love fish.

But I also really don't like water.

The sound just got louder! It's really hurting my ears!

That does it! I'm in!

Wait. No, no, no, I'm not. I'm out.

I'm so out of the water! But no, I must go in!

But it's so wet. And out here is so dry!

In! Out! In! Out! I must go in.

For Daisy and her cute ears,

for the fish and for the animals everywhere

who are harmed by noise pollution,

I, Nature Cat, shall brave the water!

I'm in!

Are you okay, Nature Cat?

I'm fine, really.

I'm not terrified at all.

(Thumping)

(Beeping)

Ronald?

(Beeping)

Hey! That's the beeping sound that's hurting my ears.

Ronald!

(Beeping)

(Gasping)

Hello, Ronald.

Yeah, yeah, hello, Nature Cat.

What are you doing here?

Fishing for gold, if you must know,

made this little gold detector myself.

When it finds gold, it beeps even louder.

Genius!

Woo-hoo! I've hit the mother lode!

Turn it off, Ronald! Turn it off!

No way! I'm going to be rich!

Rich, you hear me? Rich!

(Laughing)

Ronald, you are scaring the fish!

And the boom sound hurts their ears, Ronald!

And the beeping sound hurts mine!

Wait. Wait. Wait. Fish can hear?

Yes, they can!

And the noise that that gadget of yours is making

can be heard all the way across the lake,

both above and below the water!

Okay, so I didn't realize that I was causing a problem.

I don't want to hurt anyone.

I'm not a bad cat. Really, I'm not.

But there's gold under there. And I want it! It's mine!

No more fishing for gold, Ronald:

The beeping and booming must end!

No!

Yes!

No!

Yes! No!

Yes!

Nature Cat!

They'll be no more noise pollution on our watch!

What he said!

Hooray!

No more booms! No more booms!

And no more beeps!

My ears are already starting to feel better!

Oh, yeah! Oh, yeah! Oh, yeah!

Time to get back to building sand castles!

No!

Whoa!

(Grunting)

Thank you for turning off the beeps and booms, Ronald!

Oh, hey, and look! You started a new stand castle!

It's got to be the best and biggest and bestest sand castle

in the history of sand castles!

What he said!

She said what I say every episode!

Thanks for stopping those beeps, Nature Cat!

I can't believe you actually went into the water!

You know I'd do anything for you, Daisy!

Now what do you say we build our castle!
