Daisy: Bunyan Trouble

Okay, who wants to hear my new comic,

"The Legend of Little Paul Bunyan Jr!" ?

(all) Me!

Baby!

Okay, that's what I'm talking about!

Here we go...

The Tree Scouts marched through the forest

on this beautiful summer day.

Alright, Tree Scouts, are you ready to see trees

like you've never seen before?

All: Yeah! Nature Cat: You know it!

But Nature Cat, where are we going to see these trees?

I give you the Redwood Forest!

All: WHOOOOOAAAAA!

Man-oh-man-oh-man,

those are the tallest trees I've ever seen.

What-oh-what-oh-what she said!

Squeeks: And look at the ferns, and mosses -

and all the animals living here!

This place is magical!

Magical I say!

Oh! Whoa!

It's called an old growth forest,

been left alone to grow and just be a forest for a loooong time!

Not too many of these babies around.

You know what I always say!

Viva la nature!

These are the largest trees on the Earth!

They are magnificent!

I love you trees!

Oh! I want a hug! Mmmm!

What day is it? Wednesday?

I'll hug a tree!

Me too!

All: We love you, Giant Redwood Tree!

(thud sound, bird chirps)

Whoa! What's that sound?

(thud)

It sounds big!

(larger thud)

It sounds huge!

(a larger thud)

It sounds giant!

(more thud noises)

Hey what do you know, it is a giant!

Hi, Giant! It's me, Hal!

Who said that?

I just told you, it's me, Hal!

You know, the dog!

I'm down here!

Well, hi, little fella!

Hi Hal, you said?

Okay, Hal!

Oh hello big fella!

I am Nature Cat,

and this is Daisy and Squeeks!

And we are the Tree Scouts!

Oh the Tree Scouts!

Very nice to meet you!

My name is Little Paulie Bunyan Junior.

Little Paulie, you say?

Hate to stumble across Big Paulie...

Is he here?

Big Paulie...he's my dad!

I'm sure you've heard of him.

He's kind of a legend here in these parts.

Whoa, wait a second, is your dad THE Paul Bunyan?

Yeah.

Yeah...that's my dad!

Your dad is Paul Bunyan, the Paul Bunyan? !

That is unbelievable!

I mean THE Paul Bunyan... can you believe that?

But just one question, okay, who is Paul Bunyan exactly?

Paul Bunyan was a really huge lumberjack who could

Daisy: cut down trees with the greatest of ease!

That's him!

Yeah, that's my old man!

Very famous.

People all over the world know about the Mighty Paul Bunyan!

And I gotta tell ya, I wanna be famous just like him.

Nature Cat: Wowee!

Do you have a big blue ox named Babe,

just like your father?

I don't!

But I have a blue ball-point pen named Gabe.

Come on out, Gabe!

What does Gabe do?

Ahhh, Gabe can write.

Aha.

- That's it? - Is that it? !

(laughs) Don't be ridiculous!

Gabe can also do this.

(pen clicks) There you go, look at that.

Where is it? There it is.

Isn't that legendary?

All: Ummmmmmm.....

(Nature Cat laughs nervously)

(Little Paulie mumbles)

It doesn't matter, because I'm gonna be famous enough

for the both of us!

And what, pray tell, are you going to do to become

as famous as your father?

I, Little Paulie Bunyan Junior,

am gonna to cut down the biggest trees in the world!

All: Ohhhh!

Wait! What?!

Yep! That's right! I'm gonna cut down these big trees!

Then everyone will know the tale of

Little Paulie Bunyan Jr. and his big blue pen Gabe!

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some giant redwoods

to chop down, thank you!

Oh no!

Little Paulie wants to chop down these trees!

But some of these trees are

more than a thousand years old!

It's madness.

I hereby proclaim as nature lovers and

Tree Scouts that we shall protect this forest!

Onward and yonward!

Let's see...this one's pretty big,

maybe I'll start with this one...

...Ohhh this one's really huge...

I'll cut this one down first!

All: WAIT!

You can't cut down that tree?

And why not?

Because, Little Paulie, this is a very special

forest and there aren't many others like it left

in the world!

Well, I want to be special too!

And when I cut down these humongous trees,

I'm gonna be the specialist guy in the world.

I'll be famous! Just like my dad!

All: Wait!

What now?

Maybe you can become a famous by doing something else!

And what else can I do to become famous?

I don't know..maybe you could set a record in rope jumping!

Rope jumping?!

I don't know...

Come on, Little Paulie!

Just think about it.

Can I borrow your pen please?

You mean Gabe, the Big Blue Pen?

Oh yeah, right!

May I borrow Gabe please?

The Legend of Little Paulie: Rope Jumping Giant!

Hey! That sounds like a great legend!

I like this. Let's do it!

You just need a giant rope!

Give it a try, Little Paulie!

Yeah!

I'll be legendary!

Timmmmmm-ber !!!!!!

Who's Tim...whaaaa!! ?

(crash sound)

Oh, forget it!

I can't jump rope!

I'm gonna be like my dad and chop down some of

these giant trees!

I'm a Bunyan! That's what we do!

Come on, Tree Scouts, we've got to go save those trees!

Ooooooh this one is gonna make me famous!

All: Wait!

Uh huh. What is it this time?

Quickly please!

You just can't cut down these trees, Little Paulie!

And why not?

Because! Look around you!

Look at this banana slug on the tree you are

about to chop down!

Let me ask you a question.

How am I supposed to become famous if I

don't chop down trees?

Oh I dunno, how about being upside down?!

Being upside down? How would I do that?

Like this!

I don't think I can do a headstand.

Sure you can!

May I borrow Gabe again?

The Legend of Little Paulie: Upside Down Giant!

Now that sounds legendary!

Let me give it a try!

(Little Paulie stammers, crashes)

Not even close...

Forget upside down!

If I wanna be famous, I gotta stay right side up!

And say it with me!

Chop down some giant trees!

All: Wait!

Oh, not you guys again!

The Tree Scouts never give up!

Tree Scouts,

can I just explain this to you one more time?

There is no other way for me to

become a famous legend.

I gotta chop down these trees.

(stomping)

We can't let you do that, Little Paulie!

Yeah? Well, I'm a giant and you're just little pip-squeeks!

You can't stop me!

All: Oh yes we can!

Uh! And why do you care so much about these trees?!

There's so many of them! They're just trees!

Because if you chop down all of these trees,

you'll only be remembered for destroying

this beautiful place.

Paulie it's true!

Squeeks: Listen to the birds singing,

see the squirrels scampering,

look at the bugs

uh... bugging...

I suppose I can see that.

And Little Paulie,

do yourself a favor...

take a deep breath in...

(Little Paulie inhales)

Have you ever smelled fresher air?

(sniffs, exhales)

Oh gosh, it smells like there's a fresh nature party

in my nose and everyone's invited!

I know, right?!

Oooh! And feel the ground.

It's like a squishy sponge

because this soil is so rich and moist!

Hey, yeah! It is squishy!
