Hal: Hal the Duck. Quack quack.

Nature Cat: Hot rock! Hot rock!

Who will be left holding the "Hot Rock"

I'm feeling lucky today.

Hal: Oooh, looky here! I found another rock.

that's an egg, and by the looks of it, it's a bird's egg.

Hal: Hey there, Eggy-Weggy! It's me, Hal-gy Wal-gy!

Daisy: Wait a minute...

What's an egg doing all by itself out here?

Squeeks: Yeah! Where's this egg's nest?

Nature Cat: Hmm. It must be around here somewhere.

Let's find it!

Nature Cat: Hmm. Not here!

Hal: What else are we going to do?

I can't just leave little Eggy out here, all alone!

He doesn't even have a scarf!

Daisy: Hmm. I've got it!

Daisy: This egg needs help so we need an Animal Rescue Expert.

We need to call...

All: Racer, the Rescue Raccoon!

[helicopter whirring]

Racer: Did somebody call for a Rescue Raccoon?!

Hal: We did! It was us! It was us right here! Hi!

Daisy: Thank goodness you're here, Racer.

We found this egg, but we don't know what kind of egg it is.

Racer: Good golly, hello Dolly!

We need to find this egg's nest before it hatches.

Hal: Actually, uh Racer?

I was thinking I could take care of Eggy.

Racer: Hal, sir, whatever is inside this egg needs

to be with its mother.

Hal: Why? I could love Eggy just as much as its mama.

I already do!

Racer: I'm sure you would love this little creature,

but all wild animals need to be wild.

And some wild animals need to imprint

with their mother to help them survive..

Nature Cat: Uh, pray tell. What does-th "imprint" mean?

Racer: I'm so glad you asked, Nature Cat!

Racer: Some wild animals, like ducks and these geese,

form a strong bond with the first thing they see

after they are born -

which is hopefully their mother.

Racer: This is called imprinting.

It helps the babies know what kind of animal they are,

and it makes it easier for the mother

to teach her newborns what they need to know to survive.

All: Woaah!

Racer: Imprinting also helps prevent babies from accidentally

wandering off with another animal even if it looks exactly

like their mama.

[squawking]

Racer: They know who they need to follow to keep them safe!

Daisy: Wow!

I had no idea how important it was for some babies

to see their mother right after they're born.

Racer: It can be dangerous for newborns

if they imprint on something other than their own species,

because they may think they are a different kind of animal.

That would make it harder for them to survive!

Hal: Oo.. That doesn't sound good...

Chick: [chirp]

Squirrel: [sniffing] Hal: [barking]

Nature Cat: Hal?

Daisy: Hal?

Squeeks: Hal!

Hal: I want this Eggy,

no matter what it is, to be safe and happy.

[deep exhale]

Let's find Eggy's mama!

Nature Cat: I'm proud of ya, big guy.

Okee dokee, Racer!

Now I guess you can just tell us what kind of egg it is

and we can slip it back into its nest.

Racer: Slow your egg roll there sir!

We have to make sure we put this egg in with the right nest.

We wouldn't want a robin egg

hatching with some geese, would we?

Hal: So let's see here. That would be robins...

geese... carry the one...

NO! NO! We would not want robins hatching with geese.

Racer: Glad we can all agree on that!

Luckily, you have an expert like me,

Racer the Rescue Raccoon, to help.

Racer: By looking at the size, shape and the color of this egg,

and the fact that you found it near the pond,

[gasps] I'd say it's a waterfowl...

Nature Cat: And a waterfowl is?

Racer: A bird that lives near the water.

Nature Cat: Right, of course!

A waterfowl! Let's go to the pond!

Hal: Come on, Eggy!

We're gonna figure out what kind of egg you are!

Racer: Now remember, it's important not to disturb

nests with eggs in them.

Nature Cat: Hmm... our egg looks a little greener

than those other eggs.

Daisy: It's smaller too.

Racer: Very good! The eggs in this nest are actually-

Squeeks: Goose eggs?

Racer: Holy hycynthia, Squeeks!

How did you know?

Squeeks: Cuz here comes Mother Goose!

[honks]

Hal: Wah!

Nature Cat: Hmm... These eggs are closer,

but they're blue instead of greenish.

Squeeks: Interesting. So our egg is not a heron egg then?

Racer: Wowie! Zowie! Cousin Howie!

How do you know so much about birds, Squeeks?

Squeeks: Because here comes the mama heron!

Daisy: Hey look! Another nest! Over there!

Squeeks: I'll keep a lookout for more birdie mommas.

Nature Cat: Hmm... these eggs look like

the same shade of green as our egg.

Hal: They're the same size as Eggy too!

And close to where we found Eggy!

Racer: Yes!

I think we found the right kind of nest!

Squeeks: Oh so she's a duck, a mallard to be exact?

Oh they're nice. That's cool.

Racer: And that must be the mother!

Racer: Now we gotta make sure this is really its nest

so our egg will hatch about the same time as these others.

See any other mallard nests around here?

Hal: So you're a mallard, huh?

I was daydreaming that you were a mallard!

I guess I'm psychic! I knew I was gonna say that.

Anyways...I bet you're the most duckiest

most mallard-y mallard ever!

Nature Cat: I couldn't find any other mallard nests.

Racer: Neither could I.

Squeeks: Me either.

Daisy: Me neither either neither either also!

Wait, what did I just say?

Hal: Made sense to me! Moving on!

Racer: Well, since this nest is pretty close to where

we found the egg, I believe this is the one!

The egg is ready to go back to its nest, Hal.

Hal: Good luck, Eggy. I'll miss you...

Racer: Perfectamundo!

[honking]

Hal: Eggy's with its mama.

Racer: Don't worry, Hal.

Once the duckling imprints with its mother

you can come check on it.

Hal: Thanks, Racer.

Racer: My work here is complete!

Nature Cat: Thanks for your help, Racer the Rescue Raccoon!

[helicopter whirring]

Racer: Until next time! Racer to the Rescue!

Hal: Aww. I'm going to miss that little duck.

Squeeks: You did the right thing, Hal.

That duck was born to be wild.

Hal: Are you sure I can't be its momma?

Squeeks: Hal, let's work on you first. Yeah?

Hal: I wonder what it would be like to see little Eggy hatch...

Hal: They're hatching! They're hatching!

All: Awwwww!

Hal: Eggy is soooo cute!

Well, I mean he's sort of wet and gross right now,

but he's still cute!

I wonder what he'll look like when his feathers are dry.

[chirping]

Hal: His feathers are dry! His feathers are dry!

[chirping]

Nature Cat: Oh ho ho ho! Look at that!

The baby ducklings are doing just what their mama is doing.

Squeeks: She's taking them into the water!

Daisy: Ooh! Look how they copy her!

I think they're getting food.

Nature Cat: So, thanks to imprinting,

these ducklings know to follow their mama.

She keeps them safe and helps them grow up.

Woah!

Hal: I wonder what Eggy will look like

when he's all grown up...

Hal: He's all grown up! It happens so fast!

Daisy: Sure does Hal.

Eggy is safe and sound because you helped him find his momma.

All: Racer, the Rescue Raccoon!

Racer: That is correct! So which one is Eggy?

Hal: He's the third one in the row.

The dapper looking one who is also a gentleman.

Racer: Good golly hello dolly!

Eggy is looking great and back with his family.

Another successful animal rescue!

All: Cheers!

Hal: The Crow-lympics.. is..tes's.

Nature Cat: Crow-lympics challenge number one is set!

Squeeks: Crow-lympics challenge number two is set!

Daisy: Crow-lympics challenge number three is all set!

Nature Cat: Now, we're ready for the Crow-lympics!

Hal: Now, let's crow for the crows, baby!

All: [cawing]

Ronald: Hello, Nature Cat.

Nature Cat: Hello, Ronald.

Ronald: What, may I ask are you doing?

Hal: Caw! We're cawing for the crows!

Caw! Caw!

Squeeks: 'Cause today's the Crow-lympics!

Ronald: Crow-lympics?!

Daisy: Yeah, I've been reading about crows

and how smart they are.

We're setting up a few tough challenges for the crows

to see if they'll try to solve them.

Ronald: How can crows figure anything out?

They're just a bunch of silly birds!

Squeeks: [gasps] You'd better take that back, Ronald!

Ronald: Why should I, Squeeks?

Nature Cat: Because crows are super smart.

Squeeks: Plus they're coming this way right now!

[cawing]

Ronald: Ewww! I do not like crows!

They're always in my yard making noise,

going through my trash and being all unintelligent,

that's why I yell at them and chase them away every day!

[cawing]

Ronald: Ahhhh! What's happening?

Squeeks: It sounds like the crows are crowing back, Ronald.

Nature Cat: Yeah, they probably remember

how you yell at them and chase them.

Ronald: Impossible, crows can't remember like that.

Daisy: Actually, it says here crows do remember faces

and how they are treated.

You should be nicer to the crows, Ronald!

[cawing]

Ronald: Ahhh! I can't take all this noise!

Nature Cat: You have to admit, it's pretty amazing that crows

can recognize faces.

Ronald: I admit nothing.

Cause I still don't think that they're smart at all.

Squeeks: Really, well, I bet they're as smart as you are.

Ronald: There is no way that they are as smart as I am.

Oof! [thud]

Nature Cat: I agree with Ronald. They're not as smart as he is.

All: What?!

Nature Cat: They're smarter.

Ronald: Hey! I'm much smarter than a crow.

Nature Cat: Well, if you are as smart as a crow,

then maybe you'd like to try some of these crow challenges?

Ronald: Me?

Hal: Hey yeah! Ronald can be a contestant in the Crow-lympicss!

Ronald: You know what? Fine!

I'll try these silly crow challenges and show you

how much smarter than a crow I am.

All: Yay!

Nature Cat: Let the games begin.

Nature Cat: Who's ready for the Crow-lympics!

Daisy: Today we have a very special contestant, folks.

Please welcome...Ronald!

Ronald: Why do I have to wear this silly costume?

Hal: Rule . It's so you can take a walk

in someone else's feathers.

Squeeks: And since crows have no hands to grab things,

your hands have been covered in wings

so you can't grab things either.

Nature Cat: And last but not least,

hit the button on your chest.

Ronald: What? This?

Ronald: Ahhh! What's happening?

Whoa!

Daisy: The costume helps you fly just like a bird, Ronald!

Nature Cat: Maybe not "just" like a bird!

Ronald: Owww!

Ooo! Let's just get this over with.

Nature Cat: All right! It's time for the Crow-lympics!

Ronald: Uh. Who are you talking to?

Hal: The home viewer, every good game show needs a home viewer.

Squeeks: Say hello to the home viewer, Ronald.

Ronald: I didn't know anyone would be watching.

Hello.

Daisy: Don't worry about that, worry about the game,

cause it's time for our first challenge.

[cawing]

Nature Cat: Crow-lympics Challenge number one!

Drink the water!

Ronald: Drink the water? Ha!

That's easy, I've been drinking water since I was a kitten.

Hal: Uh-uh-uh, remember crows can't grab it,

and neither can you, Ronald.

Ronald: Then how am I supposed to drink it?

Nature Cat: You have to solve that problem

the way a crow might solve it.

Ronald: Fine! Uh...

How can I drink the water without lifting the pitcher?

Hmmmm... Wait! I know!

The answer is right in my mouth.

MaaaaToooongee!

Squeeks: And looks like Ronald is trying to use his tongue

to reach the water.

Let's see how that goes...

Hal: But his tongue can't quite make it.

Oooh, that's gotta be a disappointment.

Ronald: I caaan geeet thiiiis!

I caaan geeet thiiiis!

Cooo oon, tungheeee!

Squeeks: And while Ronald tries to get to the water,

let's see if we got any crows trying to get a drink.

Daisy: Looks like we have our first crow contestant, folks!

Nature Cat: The crow is looking down at the water

and trying to figure out how to get to it.

Daisy: Hmm. And now the crow is looking around.

I wonder why?

Nature Cat: The crow is gathering a pebble in its beak.

Daisy: And now the crow is dropping the pebble

in the water pitcher!

But the question is, why?

Ronald: Because a crow is not very smart.

Now, excuse me as I stretch my tongue.

Nature Cat: Look at this!

[drip]

I don't believe it! When the crow adds pebbles

the water keeps rising in the pitcher.

Ronald: What? Thashimpossshible!

Oh yeah!

Well, I have an even smarter idea.

Ronald: If the crow is getting the water to rise

with little pebbles,

this big rock will make it rise much faster!

Squeeks: Oooh! Looks like Ronald's rock's

not gonna fit in the pitcher!

Ronald: Oh yes it will!

[plop]

Daisy: All the pebbles helped the water to rise

and now the crow is enjoying a refreshing beverage!

Nature Cat: And the crow wins the challenge!

All: Who's the smartest bird we know, crow! Crow!

Croow!

Ronald: Oh well, I wasn't really thirsty anyway.

Let's just fly off to the next challenge.

Aaaahh!

Nature Cat: Crowlympics challenge number two is called

Wanna Snack?

Nature Cat: Woah! Ronald: Ah!!

Ronald: Ooh! Ooh! I do want a snack!

I love snacks!

Ronald: Ahhh!

How am I supposed to get this snack if I can't use my hands?

Nature Cat: We're about to find out,

because the challenge starts right now!

Ronald: I have a super smart idea!

Squeeks: I can't believe we're seeing this.

It looks like Ronald is trying the old "Jump and chomp"!

Hal: And how's that working out for him?

Squeeks: Not well, Hal, not well!

Hal: In the meantime,

let's see if any crows are trying to get to the food.

Nature Cat: We're in luck!

Looks like we have our second crow contestant!

Nature Cat: The crow is pulling the string up using its beak.

Ronald: Hey! I can do that too.

Ronald: Woaaah!

AHHHHH! [thunk]

Ronald: Heha! It's coming! It's coming!

Squeeks: Ooh! Seems like Ronald

can't quite get it high enough to take a bite.

Hal: Whattya say we check in with how the crow is doing.

Nature Cat: Oooh no, it appears the crow

is going to face a similar problem.

It can't pull the string up any higher

and the food isn't high enough yet to eat.

Daisy: Would you look at that,

the crow is using its foot to hold the string

so it doesn't fall back down!

Ronald: What? Its foot? That was my next idea!

I thought of it first!

Ronald: Hey! What is happening here? Whooa!

Squeeks: Looks like Ronald's a bit "tied up" right now.

Heh!

Daisy: But the crow got the food!

Nature Cat: So, the crow wins the challenge!

All: Who's the smartest bird we know?

Crow! Crow! Crow!

Ronald: Can somebody get me down?

Oof!

Ronald: Ow! Never mind.

Nature Cat: It's time for the final Crow-lympics challenge,

it's called Crow's Cache!

Ronald: Cash? Why would a crow need money?

Daisy: It's not that kind of cache, Ronald.

Cache also means to hide food or supplies to be used later.

Ronald: Hiding food?! Ha!

This challenge is a cinch!

I'm always hiding food to eat later.

Ronald: I've been storing this grilled cheese

in my armpit for days.

Mmmmmm....gouda!

Nature Cat: Well, get ready to find someplace

new to hide your food,

because this Crow-lympics challenge starts now.

Hal: Looks like Ronald is searching for a hiding place.

Squeeks: And he's found it.

Ronald: Hey! Who pulled my tail?

Ronald: Oh well, I'd better keep hiding my food.

Ronald: There is no way Ronald is losing this contest.

Daisy: You should check your hiding spot, Ronald.

Ronald: Hey! There are no nuts in there.

What happened?

Nature Cat: Why don't we show him in Super Crow Slow Mo!

Ronald: [in slow motions] Hey! Who pulled my tail!

Nature Cat: As you can clearly see, Ronald,

the crow was taking all of your nuts.

Ronald: Oh yeah! Well, two can play that game.

Ronald: Ouch! I'd better just walk!

[laughs]

Ronald: I see you, crow! [laughs]

Ronald: I know your hiding spot. [laughs]

Ronald: I am going to take all your nuts.

[laughing]

Ronald: What's going on? Where did all the nuts go?

Nature Cat: Let's show him one more time in Super Crow Slow Mo!

Daisy: Whoa! The crow knew you were watching.

Look what it does next, Ronald!

Ronald: It's hiding the nut and flying off with it.

Wow!

But where did the crow cache its nuts?

Squeeks: Over here!

Ronald: Look at all those nuts!

Nature Cat: And that means the crow wins the challenge!

Daisy: And the crows win the Crow-lympics!

All: Who's the smartest bird we know...

Ronald: Stop!

I don't want you to hear you cheer for the crow...

Nature Cat: And why not?

Didn't the game just prove that the crow is an amazing

and super smart animal?

Ronald: Yes! I admit it, crows are super smart.

Daisy: Then why don't you want us to cheer for the crow?

Ronald: You didn't let me finish.

I don't want you to cheer for the crow without me.

Ronald: Who's the smartest bird we know?

All: Crow! Crow! Crooooooow!

Wooo!! Yeah!

Ronald: Crows really are smart.

Ronald: Awww! Thanks, Crow!
