[Hal]: ATV Adventure!

[Nature Cat]: Ah... Don't you just love camping?

The fresh air, the trees--

The birds.

Beef jerky, baby!

Sleeping outside.

Trail mix! And don't forget s'mores,

cans of beans, and water from a canteen.

Oh, I love camping!

Me too! And today is going to be the best camping day yet!

Today, we will once again hike to the top of...

Mighty Mountain!

[all]: Wow!

I can't wait to get a picture of some animals on the mountain!

And all of us at the babbling brook.

Babble, babble!

And don't forget

the obligatory sunset picture at the top.

We are going to do it all!

Just us and the beautiful

sights, smells and sounds of natu--

[revving]

[Joey]: Uh, one second. I've got this!

Hello, Ronald...

Oh, hello, Nature Cat.

What do you think of our ATVs?

ATVs?

All-terrain vehicles! Yup!

These babies can get you

anywhere you want to go in nature.

Across rocky terrain,

steep hills or to the top of Mighty Mountain.

[chuckles]

And the best part about ATVs,

when you ride them, there are no rules!

[both]: No rules! No rules!

Well, actually...

How are you going to get to the top

of Mighty Mountain, Nature Cat? With those?

Ha! Who needs feet when you've got wheels?!

See you on the mountain, Nature Cat. Let's ride!

[all]: No rules! No rules!

No rule-- Woops!

No rules! No rules! No rules!

Yeah well, we will use our feet! Just like this!

Uh, I don't think they can hear you, Nature Cat.

[engines revving]

[Hal]: Yup, they're gone.

Ugh! Who would want to experience nature on an ATV

when you can walk around the beautiful outdoors?

[both]: Yeah!

Right, yeah!

[Nature Cat]: Now c'mon!

We've got animals, a babbling brook,

and sunset to see.

Tally-ho!

Ah, isn't this peaceful g*ng?

[shouting]

[grunting]

Hey, I'm walkin' here! I'm walkin' here!

[cats]: No rules! No rules!

[Joey]: No Rules!

[screaming]

Wait for me, Ronald!

No rules! No rules!

No rules? No rules?!

There should be lots of rules for ATVs!

Well, actually, there kinda are.

There are?!

ATVs need to stay on the marked trails.

Otherwise, they can hurt trees and other plants. See?

So there are rules!

Hey, how'd you know that, Daisy?

Oh, I must've just read it

in a nature book somewhere. [nervous chuckling]

It wasn't enough for Ronald to ruin our hike.

Now he's ruining nature too with that ATV!

Well, now that Ronald is gone,

we can get back to hiking. [clears throat]

We still have a lot to see.

You're right, Squeeks!

I've got my camera ready!

Keep your eyes peeled for any animals.

Shh...

[Nature Cat]: Ah... This will make a great photo.

Wait! Where are the deer going?

[revving]

[all]: Ronald!

[Nature Cat]: Your ATVs scared off the deer

and ruined our picture!

What's that? I can't hear you!

I'm having too much fun enjoying nature

on my loud ATV!

Enjoying nature?

Well, you're ruining it for the rest of us!

[together]: Yeah!

[Joey]: Yeah!

I mean... [clears throat]

No rules!

[revving]

[shouting]: Hey, you need to--

I mean, you need to ride quietly.

Ride quietly?

Yeah! We're visitors and it's important

to be respectful to the animals that live here.

You should drive slowly on your ATV

to keep the noise down so you don't stress the animals.

Ronald definitely wasn't doing that.

He scared off the deer!

Loud ATV noise makes it harder for animals

to hunt or avoid danger.

Another ATV rule that Ronald isn't following!

Wow! You sure know a lot about ATVs, Daisy.

Do I...? Oh, I didn't notice!

Let's hope that's the last ATV we see today. Yeah?

Yeah! There's no way those ATVs can ruin the babbling brook.

[gasps] You're right!

This way, g*ng!

The brook! We're here!

[chirping]

Listen to the birds singing.

The calm rustling of leaves.

Ah, the babble of the babbling brook.

Babble, babble.

[sighing]

Now this is more like it.

I'll set the camera to get our photo!

Everybody say cheese!

Cheese? Where?!

I'm just kidding. Little mouse inside joke for you.

[all]: Chee--

[laughing] Oh no. Not--

[camera clicking] [Ronald]: No rules!

Ronald! Oh!

Is there anything worse than water?

Yes. More water.

ATVs should only cross streams and rivers

at designated crossing points.

Like that one!

Let me guess,

another rule that Ronald and his ATV are breaking?

If ATVs cross the water in the wrong areas,

they can cause erosion along the water banks

and pollute the water.

Hmm...

Uh, everyone knows that, right?

Um, right!

First Ronald said there were no rules.

Now there are three?!

Why must Ronald ruin our perfect day with ATVs?!

Why?!

Cheer up, Nature Cat.

Why, the birds are still singing.

[chirping]

The leaves are still rustling.

And the brook is still babbling!

Babble, babble, babble, babble.

You're right! And the best part is,

we still have all day to-- [gasps]

[Daisy]: Uh-oh, I'm not sure there's as much day left

as you think, Nature Cat!

Yeah, the sun is starting to set!

If we don't hurry, it'll be dark

by the time we reach the peak!

We're doing it! Just a little further.

Nothing can stop us no--

Oh no, it's--

Interesting! Looks like they got their ATVs

stuck in the mud. Shame.

Haha! Now they won't be able to ruin the rest of our day

with their ATVs.

Get off and push, you two!

Now I'm not only wet. I'm muddy too.

You always want to avoid riding on soft ground,

especially off the trail.

It can leave deep ruts that don't fill back in.

This makes it harder for hikers.

And it looks like you can also get stuck!

[Squeeks]: Guess that's why you should stay

on the trail, huh?

Oh, Ronald!

Not only have you ruined our last day camping,

but you said there were no ATV rules.

There aren't!

Oh, yes there are!

Stay on the path...

Don't ride over plants...

Ride slowly to keep the noise down...

Only cross streams and rivers at designated crossing points...

And stay on the path!

I know I already said that one, but I'm saying it again.

Oh... I guess we didn't know those.

[sighs] And now there's no way

we're going to make it to the top of the mountain

in time for sunset.

Well, there is a way we can still make it.

On the ATVs.

Okay. I have a confession to make.

I love ATVs!

[gasping] Wait, what?!

I knew it! She can't be that nice.

But Daisy! How? Why?!

Granny Bunny and I ride them behind her house.

When you don't follow the rules,

ATVs can be really bad for nature.

But when you follow the rules,

they can be fun and really useful.

Like how?!

Like when you have to get somewhere quickly.

Say the top of a mountain.

Uh, I don't know...

For us, ATVs will never replace walking,

running or skipping through nature.

But today, they are going to help us see that sunset!

Hmm... Maybe I could give them a chance.

If used properly.

Let's help them out of the mud!

Thanks for your help, Nature Cat.

We didn't know we weren't following the rules.

That's okay. You can help us

by giving us a lift to the top of the mountain!

But we're driving!

Oh, I want to feel the wind in my fur!

I want to ride free!

Heh heh. Let me show you how to drive one of these.

Let's ride!

Sunset, here we come!

[together]: Rules! Rules! Rules!

[upbeat music]

[chuckling] You know,

ATVs are pretty fun!

When used the right way,

they can have their place in nature!

And following the rules means you waste less time

stuck in the mud and have more time for fun!

Come on, we're almost there!

We made it! The ATVs got us

up the mountain before the sunset!

It's beautiful.

It sure is!

Thanks, Daisy.

Now, let's take that picture!

[Hal]: Nature Buddy Breakup.

All right, Nature Buddies!

Let's all enjoy the Nature Buddy Clubhouse!

[all]: Nature! Nature! Hoo! Hoo! Ha! Ha!

Oh, boy! I'm going to go to the Nature Buddy library

to read my favourite book, Cheese, Cheese, Cheese!

Ahh! What happened to the Nature Buddy Library?!

Where are all the scrumptious food books?!

Uh, sorry, that may have been me.

You see, I was reading about cat toys,

and that led me to a book about silly toy cucumbers,

which sent me searching for a book about vegetables,

which led me to a book about farming,

which made me really want to read a book of nursery rhymes

about farm animals. Which was by the way,

E-I-E-I-Awesome!

Oh, but now I can't find my cheese book anywhere.

It's too messy!

Pfft! And too dangerous!

Your mess made me get smooshed by books, Nature Cat!

Sorry, Squeeks, I'll clean up the library

as soon as I have a little nap.

Okay, kitty bed, here I come!

[grunting]

Strange.

Where did my kitty bed go?

Has anyone seen my comfy kitty bed?

Oh, I saw your comfy kitty bed, baby!

Oh, good! Where is it, Hal?

I buried it.

You buried my kitty bed?!

Yes! I borrowed it for a game of Hide and Go Dig.

Well, can you quickly unbury it, please?

Ooh, I would like to, ya know, but unfortunately,

and this is the hard part for me and you...

[Hal]: I forgot where I buried it.

[Nature Cat]: But, Hal, I'm sleepy!

And I need my bed to take a nap!

I'll help you find it as soon as I have a refreshing drink

of watery water from my favourite water bowl!

Hey! What happened to my water?

Well...

[Daisy]: I needed water for my tomato plant,

so I used the water from your bowl.

[Hal]: Daisy! You used all my water

and now I'm thirsty and have no water

to quench my thirsty thirstiness!

Sorry, Hal.

I'll fill up your water bowl

as soon as I have a little snack!

Oh no! What happened to the tomatoes I was growing?!

And my cucumbers?! And my green beans?!

That... was actually me.

Mmm! Oh, it smells delicious!

[gobbling]

Squeeks! How could you?

I'm sorry, you just grow such tasty veggies.

That was really selfish of you to eat them all

and not save any for the rest of us!

Well, it was kinda selfish of you to use all the water

from my water bowl to water the plants in the first place.

What about you? You buried my kitty bed

and didn't even bring it back!

Which is so selfish!

Yeah, says the selfish cat who messed up the library

and made the books fall on my head!

[overlapping arguments] You're selfish!

- No you! - You're the selfishest!

Selfishest!

Man-oh-man!

This is not how Nature Buddies should act.

Well, then, maybe we shouldn't be Nature Buddies anymore.

Yeah! Forget the Nature Buddies!

I'll go out and enjoy nature all on my own.

I'm a lone wolf... mouse.

Me too! So no one will eat my vegetables!

Fine! Are we saying we won't be friends anymore?

If nature has taught me anything,

it's that you don't need anyone ever!

It's survival of the fittest out there!

And I am the most fittest-est kitty you've ever seen!

I'm gonna go do nature all on my own!

Me too!

I'm leaving too!

Me too, too, also, also!

Sorry, little butterfly,

I'm not in the mood to frolic with you today.

Hal?! Not in the mood to frolic!?

Something must be wrong! Very wrong! What's wrong?

Well, butterfly, my friends

don't want to be friends anymore.

But that's okay, because in nature,

animals get along by themselves!

They survive alone with no one to help them!

I'm like that! Finding nectar all on my own.

I spend my days flying by myself as I migrate south!

I'm a lone butterfly!

And I'm a lone doggy!

- Except at night! - Yeah! At night!

Wait, huh? What do you mean, "at night"?

Explain, please,

and a flashback would help! That would be nice.

[Butterfly]: Well, as I make my way to where I'll spend

the winter, I prefer to spend the night roosting with lots

of other monarchs. It's safer and warmer for me that way.

[giggling]

So you're not always a lone butterfly?

Nope! I guess I'm kind of a social butterfly

when it's nighttime.

There's safety in numbers, you know!

But Nature Cat, Daisy and Squeeks said that animals

in nature live alone

and don't need any other animals.

Definitely true for some kinds of animals.

But other kinds of animals do live in groups.

And when you live together in a group,

you can't be selfish. You have to cooperate.

Cooperate? Animals? Working together?!

Come on! I'd like to see that!

Look down, Hal.

[Butterfly]: Look past your toes.

[Hal]: Ants? Ants work together?

You tell me.

Oh, well, that little ant is trying to carry that bread

by itself, 'cause it's nature

and animals in nature do everything on their own.

Come on, little ant! You can do it!

Oh, you can do it!

Oh, maybe you can't do it.

[Hal]: Hey, wait! Other ants are arriving.

And now they're all carrying the bread.

You're not going to believe this,

but ants are cooperating!

Yes, they are! These ants work to complete a task

they can't do on their own and that helps the whole colony!

Maybe I should have been more like the ants

and helped Nature Cat find his kitty bed.

Oh, I wish the rest of the Nature Buddies

could see this.

Then they would know that nature cooperates

and maybe they'd want to cooperate

and be Nature Buddies again.

So, tell me, what other animals

cooperate in nature, little butterfly.

Butterfly? Where are you, butterfly?

[Squeeks]: Here I am, alone in nature, finally.

Peace and quiet.

I can read on my own.

Excuse me, butterfly, um,

I'm kind of in the middle of reading here, so maybe

flap somewhere else?

What? Hey! Hey!

[Squeeks]: Okay, seems like you're trying

to tell me something.

Sorry, I don't speak butterfly.

Hal speaks butterfly, but he ain't here.

What is it? What? You want me to follow you?

Okay, fine. Calm down, man!

I'm following, I'm coming.

Okay! You brought me to see a crow. Awesome.

The crow seems to be looking for food

in that compost. Interesting.

Now it looks like the crow found some food.

Okay, I bet it's going to eat the food.

What's the...point?

That makes me hungry, I'm going to leave now.

What? What?

[crow cawing]

[Squeeks]: Interesting. Okay, so the crow's not eating.

It's making a caw sound. Why is it cawing?

[cawing]

Okay, so, the crow called other crows in to share

the corn it found. And now they're all eating.

Well, that's... that's nice. All of the crow family

gets food and no one goes hungry.

[gasps]

I see what you've been trying to tell me.

I should have saved some of Daisy's vegetables

so all my friends could share them too.

Oh, butterfly!

Butterfly?

Butterfly?

[Daisy]: May not be tomatoes, but dandelion leaves

are still good for a salad.

Yeah, I don't need anyone.

I can do things by myself, just like wild animals!

Oh, okay, a little bitter!

What is it, little butterfly?

Oh, you want me to follow you? Oh, okay!

[buzzing]

Ooh! Honeybees. What are they doing?

[Daisy]: Wow!

Looks like those bees are carrying pollen into the hive.

What gets eaten gets replaced.

Oh, I wish when I used up the water from Hal's water bowl,

I replaced it.

I sure do miss my Nature Buddies.

Thanks for showing me this, butterfly.

Where did the butterfly go?

[buzzing]

[snoring]

What? Who? Where?

Ah... What do you want, butterfly?

Can't you see I'm trying to take a much-needed nap?

You want to show me beavers?

Why do you want to show me beavers?

[Nature Cat]: Seems like the one beaver

is warning the other beavers about something.

And now the beavers are all swimming

into their lodge for safety.

[gasps] Oh, right!

Beavers live together as a family

and warn each other when danger approaches.

Maybe I should have thought of that before I messed up

the library and made it dangerous for poor Squeeks.

Hmm, I wonder what the beaver was warning

the other beavers about?

[yawns] I'll find out later.

Right now, I really need a nap.

[snoring]

[suspenseful music]

[all]: Nature Cat! Wake up!

Ahh! Hawk!

Mother. Ahh!

[grunting]

Ah! You... You saved me!

Well, thanks to the butterfly,

we learned that for some kinds of animals,

living together in a group is a really good thing.

But it only works if everyone cooperates.

That butterfly deserves a big old thank you!

[all]: Thank you, butterfly!

Now, what do you say we cooperate

with some cooperative cooperation

and get the Nature Buddies back together?!

That's a sweet idea!
