FEMALE DISPATCHER ON RADIO: One-Adam-. One-Adam-, a in progress.

One-Adam-, handle code .

[SIREN WAILING]

[HONKING]

-You got it, huh? -Yeah.

-Looks great, Pete. -Thanks.

Supposed to get about miles to the gallon.

Good, my half of the gas money should drop about two dollars a week.

They give you a good price on your trade-in?

I don't know, I think so.

How's it handle?

Good, wanna drive it?

Love to.

Okay, but hold it down. It's not broken in yet.

All gauges rather than lights.

AM/FM stereo. Air conditioning.

Where's the digital clock?

They wanted an extra bucks.

Too bad, they're great, newest thing.

It's the same. Really nice though.

Yeah, let's go. Better take Olympic down to Pico.

Why don't we try Virgil.

I tried it while you were on vacation. It really moves.

Okay.

You sure know your way around town.

Yeah, well,

usually you can fire a cannon down this street.

[WOMAN SCREAMING]

Help! Help! He's got my purse.

Help! Help!

[KICKS THE TRASH BIN]

Police! Come on out. Hands first, and empty.

Now!

I'm coming out. Don't sh**t.

What're you guys trying to do? Bust my eardrums?

Keep those hands clear and get out.

Hands on top of your head.

Hey, this is a bad neighborhood.

I just carry that for protection.

Let's go.

Reed, Malloy, how you doing?

All right.

Watch your head.

I better get your car out of the street.

Let me at him! That dirty snake! Let me at him!

Calm down ma'am, we'll take care of him.

Sure you will.

How about a little sidewalk justice here and now?

Just give me five minutes.

Just go wait right over there, okay?

We'll handle the booking and reports after roll call.

Right, Pete.

We'll calm her down and get a statement.

-See you later. -All right.

What's this?

I don't believe it.

Pete, I didn't hit anything.

Somebody else must have nailed you.

Well, it happened in the last minutes.

Let's see if we can find a witness. I'll check this side.

Right.

I'm really sorry.

I shouldn't have left the car in the street.

Hey, look, that guy was ripping off an old lady and we bailed out.

It was the only thing to do.

I know, but your car's only got miles on it.

, but who's counting?

MACDONALD: This is routine procedure for you guys

and you tend to get a little sloppy.

The basics that we talked about tonight are the things

that are going to keep you alive to collect that % pension.

Malloy, Reed see me after roll call.

See if you guys show up on time, you get to sit together.

One last thing I need your request for days off by the end of watch.

The new pay period starts Tuesday.

Okay, that's it.

And we nail the guy, hiding in a trash bin.

-Good work. Was the lady okay? -Fine.

She feels better than I do.

What's wrong?

When I left Pete's new car in traffic

someone smacked the right front fender and split.

Oh. Will your insurance cover it?

Yeah, but it's not enough damage to make a claim on.

Too bad, the department can't help.

But since it wasn't on duty there's no way.

-Yeah, I know. -But here's what I want you to do.

Go by here tomorrow and ask for Bryan.

Tell him I sent you.

MacDonald's Auto Repair?

In Beverly Hills?

Yeah. My kid brother's shop.

Really does great work.

"Uncompromising Quality" is his motto.

Thanks, Mac. I'll stop by tomorrow on my way in.

Let's hit it.

One-Adam-. Clear.

FEMALE DISPATCHER: One-Adam-, clear.

You know how much stuff costs in Beverly Hills?

How much can the damage be? - bucks?

When I first saw it, it looked like but 's probably about right.

I've been thinking, I wanna pay half. I'll feel better.

Tell you what, partner. I'll let you pay for the whole thing.

Then you can feel great, okay?

No. I think half will make me feel good enough.

FEMALE DISPATCHER: One-Adam-, see the woman,

man and possible ADW.

Wakeman. Code .

One-Adam-, roger.

[KNOCKING]

-WOMAN: Who is it? -Police.

It's about time.

That creep could have k*lled me

in the time it took you guys to get here.

Okay. Tell us what happened.

My "Boyfriend" gets waxed on booze this afternoon

and starts acting like he's on the warpath,

sh**ting arrows all over the place.

Did he sh**t at you?

Nah, he couldn't hit anything he aimed at anyway.

-Where's he now? -He split toward Pico.

Ya know, when I picked him up outta the gutter,

he was a car jockey in a downtown parking lot.

He tells me he's a fighter, so I back him.

Room, board, the whole bit.

He's had three fights and hasn't seen the second round yet.

Calls himself Geronimo.

He's no more Indian than I am.

Okay, we'll look around for him.

If he comes back, give us a call.

Do me a favor.

If you find him, tell him this is where he lives now.

Looks like we're on the right trail.

[HOOTING]

Break it up!

Come on, you old goat, put 'em up!

-Jump on my back, will ya? -Knock it off, Geronimo.

You're getting in over your head, now turn around.

All right, put your hands together behind your back.

What's your name?

Vitali.

Okay, Mr. Vitali, let's go.

-Any problems? -No.

I think he's just as happy to have a place to sleep it off.

No such luck.

I just saw his girl friend at the desk ready to bail him out.

Hey, Pete, good news,

my brother's coming by to have lunch with me.

I'll have him check out your car.

Thanks Mac, I probably won't get to meet him,

but ask him to leave an estimate.

An estimate?

Pete, trust me. He'll treat you right.

Get him to leave an estimate, Mac, talk to you later.

One-Adam-, clear.

FEMALE DISPATCHER: One-Adam-, clear.

You don't seem exactly thrilled

at having Mac's brother check out your car.

For some reason a body shop in Beverly Hills with the motto

"Uncompromising Quality" sounds like a lot of bucks.

But you want a really good job done.

Besides, I'm picking up half the tab.

FEMALE DISPATCHER: One-Adam-. See the man.

just occurred at North Pico at the grocery store.

Handle Code .

One-Adam-, roger.

Man am I glad you guys are here.

This guy had a g*n about this big.

Try and calm down. Tell us what he looked like.

Young guy -, about six feet,

I've never seen a g*n that big.

This is my wife, Emma, she was in back, luckily.

Slow down a little. What kind of clothing was he wearing?

He's wearing a brown jack...

-John! John! -Get an ambulance!

Oh! Oh, John!

He take any medication?

No. No.

It's on the way.

Oh, John.

[MALLOY PERFORMING CPR]

Could you call your doctor?

Four, five.

[BLOWING]

Four.

Five.

[AMBULANCE SIREN WAILING]

Five.

Three, four, five.

Why don't you lock up?

We'll drive you to the hospital.

Officers.

We're sorry about your husband, Mrs. Evans.

You both tried so hard.

Thank you very much.

An hour and a half ago they were running that little store together

and now she's a widow.

And some punk's got $.

I hope he enjoys the money.

The air's really quieted down.

Probably stay that way till we try for seven.

Hey, you know something funny?

That dinged fender's going to cost the same as the digital clock.

I didn't see a smashed fender on the list of options.

FEMALE DISPATCHER: One-Adam-, see the man,

a at North Pico.

One Adam-, roger.

Now there's some heavy action.

You really like those parking tickets, huh?

FEMALE DISPATCHER: One-Adam-, cancel your last call.

One-Adam- is at the location and will handle.

One-Adam-, roger and clear.

One-Adam- clear.

Well, you win a few, you lose a few.

FEMALE DISPATCHER: One-Adam-, One-Adam-, a there now.

Van Nuys Boulevard, at the drugstore.

Handle Code .

One-Adam-, roger.

[g*nshots f*ring]

[CAR ENGINE REVVING]

-You okay? -Yeah.

-You make the plate? -No, too dark.

One of us got him.

Let's get out a broadcast.

Can you guys think of anything else for the supplemental broadcast?

Just the property taken, blank money orders.

Okay, does this diagram of the sh**ting look accurate?

Yeah, that looks fine.

When we finish here,

we'll meet you at the station and wrap up the reports.

Right.

FEMALE DISPATCHER ON RADIO: One-Adam-, come in.

One-Adam-, go.

One-Adam-, meet One-Mary- at Jefferson's,

near Adam's parkside.

He has information regarding your suspect.

One-Adam-, roger.

-Let me know what you come up with. -Right.

GRANT: This must be your lucky day.

This is Jesse Rodriguez of West Alvarado.

Tell 'em what you saw, Jesse.

I was on my way home from night school

when I saw you guys chasing someone

across the street to the alley.

So I went around the block.

I heard a lot of sh**ting

then this brown pickup came screaming out of the alley.

Did you get the license number?

Sure, I gave it to Officer Grant.

Did you get a DMV?

Yeah, but forget it. It's stolen from San Diego.

Tell them the rest Jesse.

Well, I tried to follow them,

but they were really getting it on.

But all of a sudden, they slow way down, and drive normal.

Probably trying to keep from getting stopped.

Anyway, I followed them to North Akron.

The driver helped the other guy into the house and split.

Then I waved down these guys.

My partner's watching the pad now.

Good job, Jesse. We'll be in touch.

We'll need you to testify in court.

Fine.

Say, do you mind if I come along and watch.

Be better if you didn't. These guys are armed.

Okay, we'll follow you over there.

We'll cover the back. Contact us when you're in position.

Stay on Tac-.

One-Adam- have One-L- meet us on Tac-.

FEMALE DISPATCHER: One-Adam-, roger.

One-L- meet One-Adam- on Tac-.

MACDONALD: One-L- to One-Adam- go.

Mac we have a citizen that followed our suspect

to a pad on Akron, we're on a follow up now.

Right, do you have enough back up?

Roger, no assistance needed.

We'll keep you posted.

One-L- roger, back to frequency one.

One-Adam-, roger, back to frequency one.

One-Adam-, show us code at Akron Avenue.

FEMALE DISPATCHER: One-Adam-, roger.

One-Adam- to One-Mary-.

GRANT:One Mary- to One-Adam-, go.

Grant, we're at the location.

Roger. It's the house on the corner.

My partner and I are covering the back.

We're gonna move in.

Roger. Gotcha covered.

Check around the side.

Pete!

Our boy is lying on a bed. He's sh*t, and still armed.

-See anyone else? -No.

Give me about seconds, then boot the door,

-I'll take care of the guy on the bed. -Okay.

And don't come in. He can see the front door.

Right.

Freeze!

Okay, Pete!

-Hey, Pete? -Yeah?

If you're gonna leave your car to be fixed tomorrow, give me a call.

-I'll pick ya up. -That will be great, thanks.

Okay, I'm gonna shop around a few places.

Here's the estimate, Pete.

Oh, good.

[LAUGHS] $!

Come on, Mac, that's ridiculous.

Uncompromised quality doesn't come cheap.

REED: I'll say it doesn't.

I figured it'd be about $.

is what it would normally cost.

But I told him how it happened,

and he's gonna do the labor himself.

Says the paint and stuff will run bucks.

Not too bad, eh?

That's fine, Mac. Thanks a lot.

He said to bring it in about : a.m. and he'll finish it in one day.

Okay.

Hey, how about that?

Here you go, Pete. $ and my conscience is clear.

But, you know Pete,

I think you ought to shop around.

Why?

What kind of quality can you get for $?
