Season two. Season...

Oh, hi. I'm Ruff Ruffman.

And the season two premiere ofFETCH!

is just moments away.[flies buzzing]

Oh, it's so exciting!

I've got a bunch of promotional material.

I even have a trained parrot

Watch season two ofFETCH! It's two-rible!

No, it's two-riffic.

Okay, the parrot needs work.

See, if you want good reviews,

you need to butter up the reporters.

That's why I'll be giving out salmon mousses

made from a mold of me.

Ah, but these molds aren't working.

So why does Ruff give us such cheap stuff?

RUFF: Uh, because Ruff has a budget.

Great, tinfoil.

Oh, we're here. WOMAN: Welcome.

RUFF: Oh, that looks good.

I'm Martha, nice to meet you.

I'm making our famous

Now, if you want to help spread it out...

Oh, wow.

NINA: Whoa!

Fred's going to cut it.

Oh.Oh, that is so cool.

RUFF: Oh, wow, look at that thing.

Oh, cool, it's cutting right into it.

So now we're going to move it over to the table,

because now it's hard. We're going to put a pair

of gloves on, because it helps

to keep the germs out.

I got a health inspector coming today;

we need this place germ-free.

Gloves and hats, let's do it.

You're going to break off a row,

and then you break it into smaller triangles.

MADI: Okay, this is my new dream job.

Okay, so the triangles now get covered

with the white chocolate.

Ahh!

Okay, to avoid a media frenzy,

I have asked Dr. Thompson

to meet the boys at Mike's house.

Oh, hi. Hi, I'm Kim.

So, I hear you want to talk about germs.

Yeah. Why do you think people care about germs?

MIKE: Some of them are bad. Some of them are bad.

They cause disease.

Some of them are bad?

Really? Not all of them?

So that's absolutely why we need to worry about germs,

and we need to be able to figure out how to find them.

How do we stay protected from germs?

MIKE: Immune system.

The white blood cells antibodies...

Do you know what a really important

part of your immune system is?

Liver? Skin.

Skin is really important. It keeps

microorganisms out of your body.

Hey, what about fur?

Got lots of that.

So you're going to go for a germ hunt.

That's right.

Their challenge is to find out which parts

of the house have the most germs

so that maybe they can help me clean up my house.

before we go look for any

of them, right?Yeah.

DR. THOMPSON: When we talk about germs or microbes,

and that includes bacteria and viruses and fungi.

So germs is really a very general term.

Yeah.

RUFF: Today the kids are going

to focus on bacteria in their search.

Well, since we're going to be looking for them,

we'd better know a little bit about their size, right?

Because you could probably see one millimeter, right?

Yeah.

Bacteria tend to be

about /, of a millimeter.

I will not be able to see that

even with my super canine vision.

So the way that we find bacteria is

by doing some sampling.

So we'll take some water samples.

You can find bacteria in water?

But I drink water.

For a water sample, we have some pipettes.

These are empty containers, right?

We can taste places that a lot of people touch,

because I think they would have more bacteria.

Let's do the toilet water.

I hope it's flushed.

Eww.

Ruff, what you got us doing here?

Eww.

That was your idea, not mine.

It's cold.

Water sample from the toilet bowl.

Okay. Good.

Okay, water sample from the fish bowl.

Ta-dah.

They have two water samples.

The toilet water and the fish bowl.

I wonder which will have the most bacteria.

I think the fish bowl water will be the dirtiest.

They throw up and poop and stuff in there.

I think the toilet water.

RUFF: We'll have to wait until the experiment is over

to find out who's right.

I want you to meet Carol.

I'm going to show you how to dip the sweet sloops.

They're on the belt.

We're going to take them from there,

and then you dip them into the dark chocolate,

and just a little bit of nuts.

So your machines are over here.

This is as fast as it goes?

It looks like it's going slow.

But watch out.

And here we go, Nina.

Okay? Yeah.

Doesn't seem too tough.

Not too hard,

a little dip in the chocolate.

Ruff, this is so fun,

but it's so messy.

Looking good.

Nina, they're coming faster now.

Oh, no.

Ooh, mine are falling off.

Uh-oh, there's some...

Now they're falling off the edge!

Here, put some on your tray like this.

Ruff, I want to see you do this.

Well, I can't do that.

It's too tempting to eat, and I can't eat that.

Nina!

Oh, that's not looking good.

You're getting them dirty.

You've got to wipe your hands.

You're leaving knots, see?

This is so hard!

How does anybody do this?

Come on!These are going to be rejects.

Mine are all going to be rejects.

There's a lot of rejects.

Calm down, Nina, you can do this.

What do we got? How many did you get, three?

I don't think we're going to really be able to,

you know, sell those.

How did you get so clean?

How did you get so dirty?

Do I look dirty to you?

Well, I wasn't going to mention it,

but you got something on your face.

What kind of surfaces do you see around you?

The counter.

The floor.

Tables.

Okay, so we've used pipettes

and containers for water samples.

Now what do we use for surface samples?

A swab.

Of course.

So let's do the surface sample.

Okay.Refrigerator handle.

There's hands all over that.

Oh, the sink might have germs

from the dishes we wash in there.

Okay, surface sample from the sink.

I think we should do this around here.

Surface sample from the toilet seat, nice.

DR. THOMPSON: Oh, there's a phone right there.

'Cause a lot of people touch the phones, too.

Telephone, yep, I'm on the phone all day.

Where do you think the most germs are?

The toilet seat.

The refrigerator handle,

because my mom cleans the toilet every week,

but we don't clean the fridge that often.

All right, nice predictions, gentlemen.

Anything outside?

Yeah, the basketball.

Guys, we've got to get

this stuff back to the lab.

BOYS: Oh, there's a taxi.

Now it's time to analyze the data they've collected.

On to the lab!

I bet you there's plenty of bacteria in that cab.

This is the inside of the sand dollar.

Whoa, a dollar wrapped in sand

and dipped in chocolate.

First we have to get the little dollops on the sheets.

Ah!

I already got that.

They have to be circles like this, though.

Mine aren't really circles.

Wow, that's... Jackson Pollock candy here.

Are you guys actually going to use these?

What do you think?

No. No.

You're going to take the funnel

and put it under there.

Now, this is the sand dollar mold.

RUFF: Oh, there's a mold!

I bet those work.

Pick up your funnel,

and you're going to go

just a little bit.

And now you put it on top?

And then a little bit on top.

Now you bang it

to get out the air bubbles

and to flatten the chocolate.

Looks good.

Well, that looks simple.

Why didn't my mousse molds work?

So it takes about minutes

to a half an hour

to cool and get hard.

So they look like this.

Ruff, see? Look at that.

Too bad, you can't eat it.

Don't be mean, he can still look.

Thank you, Madi.

Yes, Nina, don't be mean to your host.

It's the first show.

Here we are, back in Studio G with Bridget and Rosario.

You guys ready to earn some points of your own?

Oh, that would not be good for the ratings.

Bribe them all with chocolate?

If only I could.

Hey, wait a minute. I'm going to make a call.

[ringing]

Hello?

Hey, guys, it's Ruff.

Hey, Ruff. Hi, Ruff.

Uh, listen, I got a slight problem.

I have a bunch of reporters here looking to report

on my mold problem.

I need something to keep them happy

while I wait for Mike and Willie to report in.

Some chocolate candies should do the trick.

Now, I need you to make me pieces of chocolate.

Can you do that for me?Yeah! Yeah.

Oh, good luck, guys.

A hundred.

And we have to do it fast.

Are these the molds?

All right, girls, they've got some new molds

for you.

We love them, Ruff.

All right, now these molds look like they'll work,

better than my mousse molds.

Now, you're going to do them

the same way as the sand dollars.

Okay, now they did really well on the sand dollars,

so this should be fairly easy.

You have minutes

for the chocolates to cool and harden.

We need to package them. Package them.

Oh, I hope they make a nice package for the reporters.

They're getting feisty.

Chocolate Ruffies.

Ah, Chocolate Ruffies!

Oh, these are going to be so great.

This is perfect bribe material.

I mean perfect snacks, perfect snacks.

Ta-dah.

Wow, they look awesome.

They're not quite dry yet.

But we have a cooling tunnel out back.

Uh-oh.So we can put them on

to make them dry up the rest of the way.

Wait a minute, they have to use the belt?

Wait a minute...

[gasps] No!

Yes. We're using the conveyor belt again?

You need to use the conveyor belt.

Um, they didn't, they didn't do very well,

uh, with the belt the, the first time.

No.

Why must you t*rture us?

Okay, well, first pop them out.

Oh, they're beautiful.They're so pretty.

Ruff, it's you!

It is me!

The reporters are going to love this!

Hey, settle down out there!

They're coming!

So, I want to introduce you

to my colleague, Dr. Alex McAdam.

Ah, Dr. McAdam.

He is a microbiologist.

Why don't we go into the lab and we'll see what you got.

Okay. All right.Have fun, guys.

We got, like, toilet water,

fish bowl, refrigerator handle,

the phone, the basketball.

Why don't we put on some safety equipment

and then we'll get started.

All the bacteria are still on the swab.

We need to get them off the swab and into the liquid.

We're going to put it

onto this vortex for a little while.

RUFF: Oh, cool. Whoa.

And that knocks the bacteria off the swab

and into liquid.

So let's get our liquid out of here.

And we'll put the liquid right here in the middle.

All the liquid is out in the circle.

RUFF: See, that's where the bacteria will grow.

Can we try some? Yeah.

RUFF: Now my fetchers are

preparing the samples for growing.

Press it down.

Looks good.

So we've got all of our samples

onto these plates.

After the bacteria grow,

we'll be able to see the bacteria on the plates.

Oh, good, so that should take,

what, a couple of minutes? We should get a sandwich?

It's actually going to take hours.

hours?!

hours?! That's two days!

We were supposed to finish today.

Here, let me call Ruff.

RUFF: Hey, Willie.

Oh, hi, Ruff, we're having a little problem.

Oh, man, this is not good.

I needed those results today.

[laughing]: It's going to take hours for the bacteria to grow, and...

Yes, I know, I know, hours.

All right, there's nothing left to do,

but you might as well go home

and we'll just pick it up in hours.

Okay, but before you go, let's put these into the incubator.

So here's the incubator.

Looks like a refrigerator.

Isn't an incubator supposed to be hot?It is warm.

Oh, yeah. See?

So if bacteria gets into your body,

your body acts as an incubator and makes it grow?

That's right, and this incubator is

the same temperature as your body.

So we'll put them in here and let them grow.

Well, I sure hope the chocolate gets here fast.

All right, girls, I'm going to start the belt.

It has to go through the cooling tunnel.

You're going to wrap them,

put them on this belt to send them back over here

and then you're going to be bringing them

to pack them into boxes.

I'm going to head over there. All right, go ahead.

RUFF: Okay, here they come.Send some down.

Go, go, go, go, go.

Oh, they're coming.

Oh, man, they're speeding up already.

Push them up.CAROL: You got to make sure

you put the finished product on the top conveyor, so it cools.

Keep sending some over, Madi.

Nina, put them all on the sides.

Yes, it's working.Aha!

[gasps]Oh, there's more coming.

It's like an army.

Can't they slow this thing down?MADI: Nina,

pockets. Pockets! RUFF: Pockets. Okay, they're...

All right, I don't know how clean that is, but fine.

The other end, they're coming out the other end.

What's going out of the other end?

MADI: All right, start worrying, Nina.

There's chocolate everywhere. I don't know what to do.

Okay, I have an idea.

Put the chocolate in your hairnet.

Stick them in your hairnet.RUFF: Wait, oh!

That's a health hazard.

Bacteria, germs!

Girls!

[gasping]: Oh!

I don't know how these people do this all day.

Take off the sides.

I'm going to go put them in the boxes.

Madi's going to go put them in the boxes.

Please fit.

Good.

Oh, they fit in the packaging. Good, good.

We need you to wrap more.

Okay, well, there are, like, at the other end,

and there are four more on their way.

Do we have enough, do you think?

NINA: Yeah.

Store it away.

Come on, girls, hurry up.

[people yelling]Angry mob here with pencils.

Exactly enough. Okay,

put it on.

Done.

Awesome, yes!

Yes, awesome.

All right, we still have

to get these to the back door. Come on.

Oh, wait a second.

Bye, Carol and Martha. Thanks, Carol and Martha. Bye.

BOTH: Bye, guys!

Thanks, ladies.

What?

[gasps]

BOTH: Murray!

RUFF: Now, Murray, I'm sure you're aware,

but just to be on the safe side, don't eat any of that.

Bye, Murray, have a good trip

back to Studio G.

Don't you dare eat any.

Hurry, Murray, hurry!

Get the chocolates here fast.

And through the magic of television,

we have passed over hours.

You guys came to see your results? Yeah.

Ah, yes, Blossom.

Now they're going to figure out which water sample was dirtier--

the toilet water or the fish water.

McADAMS: So each of these colonies here formed

where a single bacteria landed on the plate,

and then that bacteria grew and grew and grew and grew

until they formed those colonies there.

RUFF: Now, each red dot on their sample sheet

represents one bacterium.

BOYS: The toilet: one.

How much is that?One?!

McADAMS: One.[laughing]

So the toilet water was clean.Whoa.

BOYS: Fish bowl.Wow, that's a lot.

McADAMS: What was the prediction about the fish bowl?

MIKE: I think the fish bowl water

will be the dirtiest.

McADAMS: It's got a lot.

RUFF: Well, it looks like Mike was right.

The fish waterisdirtier than the toilet water.

Do you guys want to look at the cultures

from the surfaces you took?Yeah.

McADAMS: So there's the refrigerator handle.

That was pretty clean.

BOYS: The sink, that's definitely the most so far.

The toilet seat.

McADAMS: That's got a lot.

The phone.BOY: A lot of bacteria.

McADAMS: Think that's the most so far?Yeah.

Yeah, that's more than the toilet seat.

That's kind of surprising, huh?

BOY: Wow.

RUFF: Wow, it looks like everything has bacteria on it.

So it must be true that all bacteria doesn't make you sick.

Otherwise, we'd all be sick.

You want to count some of these

and find out which ones had the most?

I'll do number one. All right.

Now they're counting how many bacteria colonies are

in each sample.

Seven.

Hey, guys, are you ready to finish the job? BOTH: Yeah.

One of the things to do is plot up your results.

I think you got a lot of data, right?Yeah.

Why don't we go ahead and type those in.

Then we can make a graph.

There we go.

And I have a printout of that.

So can you see all the data points there?Yeah.

There's only, like, three major things.

The toilet seat, the kitchen sink and the phone.

RUFF: Wow, the phone had the most bacteria

of all the surfaces in the house.

And I'm on the phone with Henry all the time.

MIKE: It makes sense that the phone had the most bacteria,

because a lot of people touch it

and it's kind of warm and dark.

RUFF: Dark and hot like the incubator.

Good thinking, Mike.

Okay, let's go.Thank you a lot, Doctor.

You're welcome. Thankyou.Thanks.

Good luck, guys.

It's a good thing Murray got here on time with the chocolate,

so I could get rid of those reporters.

They've been waiting for hours.

Here come our intrepid chocolatiers.

Madi, Nina, get in here.

Hi. Hey.

And coming back to Studio G

where the "G" doesn't stand for germs,

it stands for...

Fine, I'll say it. It stands for garage, okay?

Yeah, good job, Ruff.

Willie and Mike, get in here, you guys.

Okay.

Look, it's probably our last show. Uh-oh.

But that shouldn't stop us from awarding some points, huh?

Madi and Nina.

We're all Christmas colory.

For helping the chocolate company

keep up with the candy orders

without eating all the chocolate...

points.

Whoo! Good job, guys.

This is so hard.

For handling the pressure of the conveyor belt...

Calm down, Nina, you can do this.

points.

Whoo!

Ruff, it's you.

Now, another points for making customized Ruffies.

All right! Whoo!

That means you've got yourself a total of points.

Whoo! Yeah! Whoo!

Nicely done.

Willie and Mike.

Ruff, what you got us doing here?

You found germs.

points for finding them.

Yeah!

Can we try some? Yeah.

You grew the germs!

more points.

Whoa!

WILLIE: So if bacteria gets into your body,

your body acts as an incubator?

Willie, great questions.

That's ten points for you, my friend.

That makes a total of points for Willie, points for Mike.

But is that all the points a dog can give?

ALL: No!

What time is it?

Bonus points!

Bonus points.

I still have five of those

to give to the one who thinks

chocolate can be a fashion statement.

Do I look dirty to you?

Five points go to you, Nina.

[cheering]

Ooh-hoo, that means with points,

Nina is today's daily winner.

[kids cheering]

Yeah, Nina!

So, Nina, this is how it works.

As the daily prize winner, you're guaranteed a prize,

but it may be fabulous
