- Now, let me see if I've
got this straight, Meg.

I'll be doing all the
talking, and you'll be getting

all the credit for
it at school, hmm?

- That's right, Grandpa.

It's kinda like a report
about my family, only

I get to do it on video.

Just act natural.

Try not to be nervous.

Put your leg like this,
and your arm up here.

- Are you recording me, or
measuring me up for a new suit?

[laughter]

- It's just, you know,
you're probably kinda nervous

about the camera
here and everything.

- This isn't my first time
in front of a camera, Meggie.

I've been on the television
before, you know.

- You were on TV?

- [laughs] That's right.

- Wow, lucky you!

- Oh ho, there was no
luck about it, Meggie.

I worked hard to get on TV.

Me father saw to
that, you see ...

- Wait!

Okay, now, let's
hear the whole story.

- You may find this hard to
believe, but I can remember

when the very first
television set came to Tara.

- [Meg] The very first TV?

- [Grandpa Piggley]
That's right.

And what a marvelous
thing it was.

[rock music coming from TV]

Miss Nanny had placed it in
the front window of her shop.

Every Sunday night, the whole
town gathered in front of it

to watch the greatest
show ever created,

The Buck Boylan Variety Hour!

♪ Someday I wanna rock

♪ I wanna roll

♪ I wanna rock all day

- Hurry, lads!

Cluck Cockwren is
on the show tonight!

- Oh, I hope we're not too late!

[rock music from TV]

- I told you two to stop your
dilly-dallyin' back there!

- Shhhh!

- Oh, sorry there.

- Shhhh!

- Sorry about that.

Excuse me!

- Oh, sorry there.

Oh, I'm sorry, oh, oh
was I on your foot?

Oh [laughs]

- Excuse me, pardon me,
pardon me, excuse me.

Move, out of me way please?

[rock music from TV]

- [Grandpa Piggley] Buck
Boylan had every kind of act

you can imagine on his show.

And I wanted more than anything
to be on that show myself!

- Oh no, the song
is almost over!

- We missed it!

- That's just great, boys.

- Shhhh!

[applause coming from TV]

- [Voiceover On TV] Listen
to your old pal Buck Boylan.

This could be your
golden opportunity.

Do you think you
have a lot of talent?

Do you want to be
on the television?

Then make your way to
Dublin this Saturday

for our biggest
talent contest ever.

The winner of our contest
will be the next huge star

on The Buck Boylan Variety Hour!

- Wahoo!

- Janey Mack!

- Ooh, I wanna be on the tele!

- Shhhh!

[laughter]

- [Grandpa Piggley] This was
indeed our golden opportunity.

A chance to be on The
Buck Boylan Variety Hour!

So we quickly put
our band together,

and began practicing in
earnest for the big contest!

- [Meg] What band, Grandpa?

- [Grandpa Piggley]
The Raloo Rockers!

[rock music from
their instruments]

- Wait, wait, wait, wait,
wait, wait, wait, wait!

- What's wrong, Dannan?

I thought we
sounded pretty good!

[drums and cymbals]

We do, we sound just
like Cluck Cockwren.

- I know we do, that's
the problem, Piggley!

Cluck just sang this song
on the show last night!

They're not gonna
want to hear it again.

- But it's such a great song.

I could listen to
it a million times.

[drums]

♪ I wanna rock all day

- No Ferny, I'm afraid
Dannan is right.

- Oh.

But does that mean
we're not going to be

on the television after all?

- Oh dear, and I was all
ready to be a huge star!

- Don't worry, Dannan, we
can still be huge stars.

All we have to do is write
a hit song of our own!

Mmm, maybe something like this.

[guitar chords]

- Ooo, I like that!

- [humming]

[music from all
three instruments]

[humming]

- Well now, look who's
playing here, Finnegan!

It's the Raloo Rockers!

- Dad, we're going to
be on the television!

- We're going to be famous!

[cymbal clashes]

- We're going to write
a number one hit song!

- Whoa ho ho ho ho,
slow down there a bit!

You lost me at "we're going
to be on the television."

- We're going to enter
a talent contest.

And, if we win,
we'll be on the telly!

- Well, I hope the
weather keeps fine for ya!

[rock music from the group]

♪ Raloo Rockers!

- You'll be on TV!

[sheep baa]

- You hear that, flock?

A talent show!

Everybody's got a
talent, even you guys!

Whoa, oof!

Oh.

- Ta da!

Look at my husband,
already working on an act.

- Tomorrow, I want you
to show me your talent.

Come on, stop thinking, herd.

Let's think ...

Showbiz!
- Show business!

- We were working on a
new song today, Mammy.

We almost wrote the whole thing!

Dad was there as well, helping
us with some of the words!

- Is that right?

- Oh it was nothing, really.

- Well now, it appears
that we have two musicians

in this house. [chuckles]

- I'm a musician too, Mammy.

La, la, la la la la!

- Of course you are, pet.

- We still have lots
more words to write.

But I'm sure Dad will help
us with that, won't you, Dad?

- I'd love to, Piggley.

- And, since you're so
good with building things

and all that, maybe
you could help us add

a new drum to Ferny's drum set.

- Oh, it would be my pleasure.

- And I'm sure you won't
mind giving us a ride

up to Dublin for the
audition on Saturday.

- Why I'd be deligh-, where?!

- Dublin, Dad.

That's where we have
to go if we want to be

on the television!

- Well, you might want
to be on television.

But sittin' by the side of the
road is where you'll end up

before that old truck of
mine makes it all the way to

Dublin!

- But ...

- [sighs] You need to take
the train if you're going

that far, Piggley.

- But train tickets cost
a lot of money, Dad.

- I've got a penny
you can have, Piggley.

Will that help?

- You know son, if
it's money you need,

there's nothing stopping
you and your friends

from earning it.

- But ...

- There's a great
sense of accomplishment

in working hard to get
what you really want.

- But ...

- Remember, the
pie tastes sweetest

when you bake it yourself.

- Right, if you say so.

- [Grandpa Piggley]
The next day,

we started by delivering
coal to Don Toro.

- [Dannen] Clear the streets!

[chickens clucking]

- Right, go right!

Look out, pothole!

- Whoa!

[crash]

[wheel falling on pavement]

- Piggley!

- Are ya all right?

- Well, there you have it, lads.

The last of the
coal is delivered.

- Ah, We did it!

We delivered all of
Papa's coal for him.

- And it only took us
ten trips to do it!

- Good work, ninos!

Now I just need you to
put all of that coal

into the coal bin.

- Ah, Janey Mack, I thought
we were all finished.

- Uh-huh.

- Come on, lads.

Remember, we're earning
our way to Dublin.

We're the Raloo Rockers!

- Rockin' on TV!

- [humming their
Raloo Rockers song]

- Okay, Ferny,
she's ready to go.

- Doo doo doo, doo doo
doo, doo doo doo doo doo

♪ We're working real hard
just to try and earn our pay

♪ Breaking our backs
for a ticket on a train

[laughs]

♪ When we get to
Dublin gonna be a hit

♪ Gonna rocket right
to the top of the list

♪ Raloo Rockers

[laughter]

- And we're on TV!

[laughter]

That was brilliant, Ferny!

- You just wrote some great
words to our new song!

- Do you really think so?

- Of course we do!

Let's sing it again!

[anvil hammering]

♪ When we get to Dublin

♪ Gonna be a hit

♪ Gonna rocket right
to the top of the list

♪ Raloo Rockers

♪ And we're on TV

- [humming along to the music]

[slurps drink]

- Okay sweetie, who's our
first Sheep Star of Tomorrow?

- Okay flock, I have ...

- Fluffy!

Put down that donut, for
goodness sakes, you're up!

[classical ballet music]

Who knew Fluffy could ...

Whoa!

Ah, don't hold my like that!

I work alone.

Can we talk?

Ah, ahhhh!!

[crash]

Next.

- Hello, Mr. McGandry!

- Oh! [laughs]

Well, hello there, children.

Well, what can I
do for you today?

- We'd like four tickets to
Dublin for this Saturday,

Mr. McGandry.

- That's right, three
children's tickets!

- And one adult, so Piggley's
dad can come with us.

- Oh, uh, I see, well, oh ...

I'm sorry, children,
but, [laughs]

Well, I'm afraid,

This isn't enough
for four tickets.

[door creaks]

But ...

If you're lookin' for a
way to earn a little money,

I'd like to hire someone
to slap a new coat of paint

on the old train station.

- Look no further, Mr. McGandry!

- We're just the
lads to do the job.

- We'll have this place
painted up in a jiffy.

- I don't get it, Grandpa.

How come you guys didn't
just get the money

from your parents?

- Um, well, Meg [laughs]

As me father often told me,

"Money doesn't grow
on trees, you know."

And the truth is, Ferny and
Dannan and I were very proud

to be earning our
own way to Dublin.

We were working hard.

But we were having fun as well.

- Ugh!
- Hey!

- Whoa!

[laughter]

- [Grandpa Piggley] We were
pulling together to reach a goal

that was very important to us.

[rock music]

♪ We're packin' our bags and
we're headin' on out today

♪ Nothin' can stop us,
there's nothin' in our way

♪ I see the train
comin' down the line

♪ We'll be in Dublin
by dinner time

♪ Raloo Rockers

♪ And we're on TV

♪ Look at us, who are we

[laughter]

- My my my my my my my,
well isn't that great!

Just great! [chuckles]

Now, if you rock and
rollers don't mind,

I'm off to run a
little errand in town.

You finish up here and I'll
pay you when I get back.

[humming the Raloo Rockers song]

- Shhhh!

- Oh dear!

I, I, I beg your pardon.

- Hmm hmm hmm hmm
hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm

[laughs]

[humming Raloo Rockers song]

- Shhhh!

- Oh, I'm sorry! [laughs]

- Honey sweetie Wiley, pussycat,
tell me who's next darling.

And it better not be a dancer.

- I don't think ...

- Don't tell me,
you're a magician!

A sheep with a hat,
fabulous and stylish.

Oh dazzle me Birney
baby, dazzle me!

[orchestra music]

- Ha I know this trick,
he pulls out a rabbit.

- You try being a size four
sheep in a size two hat.

Very funny. Next!

[thud]

- Piggley, are you
all right, son?

You barely touched your dinner.

- I'm really tired, Dad.

Workin' hard is hard work.

- Were you able to buy
your train tickets, then?

- No, we still don't have
enough money for the tickets.

And we haven't had much
time to really practice

our song, either!

- Well, I'm sure that creative
brain of yours will think of

a way to make it all
work out, Piggley.

For now, you better
get some sleep.

[kiss]

Good night, son.

- It's too bad we can't
work and play our music

at the same time.

- Hmm, that's a
brilliant idea, son!

- Huh?

- There is a way you can
work and play your music

at the same time!

- Jakers! How dad?

- Remember the organ
grinder and monkey that came

through town last month?

- [gasps] Are you
getting me a monkey, Dad?

- No, no, no.

What I'm saying is, that
the organ grinder was able

to make money by
playing his music.

- Jakers!

We could do the same thing
by playin' our music in town!

- That's right.

- That's the greatest
idea anyone has ever had!

Thanks, Dad.

- [humming the kids' song]

- Ha, well now, it seems
that I have solved another

Piggley problem.

- That's nice, dear.

- [humming]

- Ah, that really is a catchy
tune the children wrote,

isn't it?

- Oh ho, it certainly is.

I heard Mr. McGandry
hummin' it today.

- And Don Toro was
hummin' it as well,

when I walked by his
shop this afternoon.

- Do you think there's a chance
the children might actually

make it on to the television?

- Mmm, with our boy
Piggley? [laughs]

Anything can happen.

- Okay, Wiley.

This is it, you're
our last hope.

And sweetie, I just know, as
my husband, you've got talent!

[band whistle]

[band music]

- Everybody, everybody,
I am so impressed, look!

My husband, the majorette!

[crashing in leaves]

[owl hoots]

[bird crying]

- Wowie, wow wow wow.

That is one angry owl.

- And he's got the batons!

Run!

[suspenseful music]

[string tune]

- Thanks for helping
us set up, Papa.

- Oh, it's my pleasure.

I like your music
very much, Fernandito.

- We should have enough
money for our train tickets

in no time!

[guitar tune]

- I hope you're right, Piggley.

Right now everyone is down
the street at Miss Nanny's,

watching the
television for free!

- Well, uh ...

We'll just have to play extra
loud and get their attention.

Alright, then, here we go.

A one, a two, three!

[band playing rock music]

- Oh, for heaven's sake listen.

Do you hear that, Miss Nanny?

- Oh I certainly do.

What is that?

- That's the tune that's been
playing in my head all day,

the one that the children were
singing at the train station.

- It's very catchy, isn't it?

- I'm gonna go listen.

- Wait for me!

- What a grand day it was.

We must have played our
song a hundred times.

Nobody seemed to tire of it.

[kids' rock music]

And the next day the whole
town turned out to see us off.

[train engine]

- Adios, los ninos,
adios, adios ninos!

- Goodbye, darlings, bye bye!

- Buon puerto, muchachito.

- Have a safe trip,
now, goodbye children.

- Good luck to ya too.

- Good luck, Raloo Rockers!

[train whistle]

- [Grandpa Piggley]
Needless to say,

we easily passed the audition,

and made it onto
Buck Boylan's show.

Even my Dad managed to
get into the act. [laughs]

[Raloo Rockers' song
playing from TV]

And that, my dear Meggie, was
my first appearance on TV.

So now, shall we
do your interview?

- Oh, I'm all done with that.

I got your whole
story on camera.

But it could use a big finish.

So, how 'bout it, Grandpa?

- Good idea, Meg.

As I always say,

you're never too old
to rock and roll.

[rock music]
