[Lyla] "The Mystery Puzzle"

[trills]

[trills]

Hey Stu,

here ya go.

[trills]

[trills]

[Beatboxing]

Open up your ears,

M.C Lou is spittin'.

My twins got a project

And my rhymes be hittin'.

I'm a poet and you know it,

So don't try to muzzle.

Liana's gonna win a prize doing a puzzle!

[gasp]

A puzzle?

Is that what's in the box?

Yeah!

I would've told you myself

if Louisa didn't rush to rap all my business.

Yo,

M.C Lou gotta do

what she gotta do!

What kind of puzzle is it, Liana?

Plants? Places? People? Pickles?

It's a mystery puzzle contest,

so I won't know until I open the box.

But I think it's gonna be a real challenge,

because there are over one thousand pieces!

Over a thousand pieces,

Wow!

And anyone who completes the puzzle this weekend

wins a picture of themselves made into a puzzle.

Um...

Can someone, maybe,

do the puzzle with you?

I mean, is that allowed?

Yeah. Do you want to help me?

Does a pizza want cheese?

Do ballerinas want knees!

Do dogs want fleas?

I don't think dogs want fleas,

but i'll take that as a yes.

Alright!

That was Pickled pasta primavera perfection, Dad!

Haha. Thanks! Kind words

and clean plates.

are a chef's dream come true

Can Lyla and I get started on the mystery puzzle now?

Sure.

So... a puzzle with

over one thousand pieces,

that's a pretty big challenge.

No stress here, Mom. I have a tried-and-true method.

Step one, look at the picture.

Step two,

put the outside pieces together to build the frame.

Step three,

fill in the middle to match the picture and you're done!

Uhhh? Hold on...

Oh, snap!

There's no picture to show what the puzzle's gonna be.

Guess that's why it's called a mystery puzzle? Heh.

Very funny,

but how can I put a puzzle together without a picture?

Aw, Sweetie, you got this.

We can still do your tried-and-true method,

but we'll just start at step two,

put the outside pieces together to build the frame.

Hmm. Maybe...

But with a thousand pieces,

we're going to need a lot more space

Maybe we can... ...use the diner.

Please, please, PULEEEZE?

Sure, why not?

You can come with me while I prep for tomorrow.

When Dad is done, it's bedtime.

Got it?

-Got it! -Got it!

[trills]

Okay, mystery puzzle,

get ready to be solved.

Yeah,

we're like detectives, solving a mystery.

And the puzzle pieces are the clues that hold all the answers.

[mysteriously] [trills]

Okay, since we don't have a picture,

We'll start with the step two of my tried and true.

Put the outside pieces together to build a frame.

Great! How do we do that?

Elementary, my dear Lyla.

First, we sort all the pieces with flat sides and corners...

...Like this one.

Then we put them in a pile over here

and use them to build the frame!

Let's do It!

[trills]

Hmm...

Found a flat-sided one!

Great.

With over a thousand pieces,

this is gonna take until morning.

I bet Stu can help sort!

Hey Stu!

[trills]

Please search the box of puzzle pieces

and take out all the ones with flat sides--

Like this,

then put them over here.

And find the pieces with corners, like this

and put them right here.

Go, Stu, go!

[trills]

[trills]

Thanks, Stu!

[giggles]

Lets make the frame!

Yeah!

[gasp] Aww...

Yes!

Hmm..

[gasp]

[trills]

Step two is complete.

The frame is done!

[yawns]

What's next?

[yawn]

Bedtime is next.

I have to be back down here at sunrise

to set up the breakfast service.

Okay, Dad.

Me and Lyla are gonna get started on step three:

building the middle of the puzzle,

bright and early too.

Um...

Exactly how bright and how early?

[Lyla] [waking up yawn]

Good morning!

Let's get started.

Okay!

I'm ready. What's next?

Usually, I'd sort the middle pieces

by finding ones that match different parts of the picture.

But since we don't have a picture--

We can't sort the pieces that way...

Right. Unless something about them is the same

Like...the same color!

Exactly!

We can sort all the middle pieces by color,

because they'd most likely go together.

Hmmm...

There are lots of middle pieces

with lots of different colors..

We're gonna need more space than just the counter.

Hey, Dad...?

[laughs] I know, more space...

You can use those open tables over there if you like.

[trills]

Hey,

let's use serving trays to keep the different color pieces separated.

[gasp]

Good idea.

I bet Stu can do the sorting super fast.

Hey, Stu.

[trills]

Please sort all the middle puzzle pieces by color

and put each color on a different tray.

Here, here, and here.

Go, Stu, go!

[trills]

[gasp]

[trills]

[trills]

[trills]

Thanks Stu!

Hmmm...

Any idea what the puzzle could be?

Hmmm... nope.

All these pieces are green,

but they don't look like they go together.

You're right!

This one looks like it could be grass,

and this one looks like it could be leaves...

Maybe we should sort

by separating the grass from the leaves.

Yeah,

that'll make it easier to see which ones go together!

Hey, Stu!

[trills]

Please sort the pieces that look like grass,

from the pieces that look like leaves.

Go, Stu, go!

[trills]

Whoa!

Thanks, Stu!

Now we can start part three of my tried-and-true method.

Making the middle of the puzzle!

Right. We've got a lot of pieces to put together!

Better get busy!

Hmm...

[trills]

Hmm?

[Liana] Does anybody have any idea what the puzzle is yet?

I sure don't.

This could be part of the park.

[Louis] Hmm... That looks like a plane.

Might be an airport.

We'll never figure it out.

I give up!

Come on, Liana, it's important to keep trying.

In Jamaica, we say "Many 'ands mek for light work."

Givin' up ain't smart, that's easy part,

but you're sure to win if we all pitch in.

Yeah! That's a great idea.

You can all help by taking a tray of sorted pieces,

and matching as many as you can.

And when you have a bunch of pieces together,

Bring it to the frame!

I'll order pizzas from Giga Bytes,

We'll have a puzzle pizza party!

Woohoo!

[trills]

[chomps]

[trills]

Yeah!

[laughs]

[beatboxing]

[excited gasps]

Hmmm...

Huh?

Yeah!

[trills]

[Liana] Hmmm...

[trills]

[trills]

[Lyla] Hmm...

I think...

[gasp]

I think I have an idea of what the puzzle is

Yeah? What?

Well,

looking at it from this side..

If you turn this part next to this part...

That looks like... A giant cotton candy sign!

And if you turn this section this way and join it

with this piece, it looks like a Ferris Wheel!

[Liana] And these pieces with the animals makes the petting zoo!

That's the airplane that does the sky writing!

And there's the stage next to where we sold pickle dogs last summer.

Now I know! It's the Summer Carnival.

Yay! Woohoo! Yeah! Yay!

What's going on?

We finished my one-thousand-piece mystery puzzle!

a thousand pieces,

with no picture?

How'd you figure it out?

We used Liana's tried and true method

and sorting all the pieces helped,

even without a picture!

Oh wow!

Everett, take a picture for me, please?

'Cause we all deserve to be in the picture puzzle prize.

[Everett] Say cheese.

Nope. Say, 'Mystery puzzle!'

Three, two, one...

Mystery Puzzle!

[camera snap]

[♪♪]

It's craft time Stu!

[trills]

Did you know that you can make a bird

Or a Jellyfish by tracing your hand?

Let's do it!

Step one: trace the shape of your hand.

Step two: Carefully cut out

the hand shapes with scissors.

Looking good!

Give me a hand, Stu!

[sigh] Moving on.

Step three!

If the hand is purple, then glue two eyes on it

like this.

Then, a little drawing.

And... done!

See?

It's a jellyfish!

[trills]

Or else if the paper is blue,

glue feathers on the finger part here.

Flip!

And then, glue one eye on the thumb part.

Squawk, Squawk! Now its a bird!

[Stu imitating bird] [Squawk! Squawk!]

Ok Stu, now you try!

Remember the steps:

Trace your hand, then cut it out.

If the hand is purple, then make it a Jellyfish

or if it's blue, make it a bird.

Go, Stu go!

[trills]

[like a sports announcer] YEESSSSSSSS! Gimme-five Stu!

[trills]

Uh-oh.

[Luke] " The Stu Express"

[Humming]

Ready!

All aboard!

Chugga chugga whoo whoo!

Ooooo.

[trills]

Stop for passengers!

[Lyla as Chicken] Buck buck baawk!

[trills]

I wish I was a chicken.

You wanna be a chicken?

[giggles] No,

I mean, I wish I could ride a train, too!

We ride the subway train all the time.

No, I mean,

I want to ride a BIG boxcar train,

Choo-chooing all over the world!

What if we make a train

we can ride in?

Make a train?

Yeah! You want a boxcar train? Let's get some boxes!

Are you onboard?

Not usually.

Well hop on, Lukey, 'cause the express train to Fun Town

is leaving the station!

[trills]

C'mon, Luke! Whoo, whoo!

[Stu imitating train] [Whoo, Whoo!]

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful fish,

named Baby Bruce.

He was the bravest, most cutest

fishy fish of all the fishes in Fishbowl City.

Hey, got any cardboard boxes?

Not now, it's story time.

Louisa, keep it down!

Baby Bruce likes it.

Got any boxes?

Check the recycling bin.

Huh...

Hey Dad,

can we use those boxes?

uh, Sure. Luke!

I found your sock with the wombats on it.

Yay!

Cold wash only please.

Now, we've got to think of a way to join the boxes together?

Can we make it like my train?

It has three parts:

the engine,

boxcar, and caboose.

Like this?

Uh Huh!

But the boxes have to be connected.

That's how trains work.

See?

[Lyla] Hmmm,

they do need to be connected.

Could we tie them together?

Yeah...with my shoelace ropes!

Perfect.

[trills]

[giggle]

[trills]

Now we tie it together.

And done!

I'll be the driver!

I call caboose!

Hey Stu, come sit in the boxcar.

[trills]

All aboard!

Here we go!

Chugga chugga, whoo whoo!

[panting] Being a train is harder than I thought!

Maybe Stu can help?

Stu, would you like to be the train-driver?

[trills]

OK, Stu,

hop in here!

And when Luke says "GO," start running!

[trills]

--

GO!

[Whoo whoo!]

Chugga, chugga Stu Stu!

Woooo!

[Stu as train] [Whoo whoo!]

Hmm? Hm.

Alright!

Woohoo!

Stu, stop!

Whoaa!

Oof!

That was awesome.

But we need at a tougher train.

Yeah, something Stu-proof.

Everyone okay in here?

We're good.

Hey, can we borrow those laundry baskets?

Uh, sure!

But I'm going to need them when I get back from the store.

Got it!

Uhhh...

Maybe we should clean up first.

Choo choo! [trills]

[Oof!]

[laughs]

[trills]

[laughs]

[♪♪]

[♪♪]

Ok, these plastic laundry baskets are way better than cardboard boxes.

Now our train will be much stronger,

And we'll tie on some extra shoelaces, too.

There's one more tiny problem.

What?

Uh... the whole crashing,

flying up in the air and

landing in the bean bag thing..

Right.

We need a way to keep this train from getting off track.

Tracks! My train has tracks

to keep it going the right way.

Can we make a big track for Stu to follow?

Yeah!

We can use this tape

to make a line for Stu to follow.

That's kinda like a train track. Right?

C'mon!

[trills]

[trills]

Hey Lyla, did I see a train go through here a minute ago?

Uh-huh.

Could the train go by a little slower next time?

[laugh] I don't want to lose any more sandwichs.

Okay, Mom!

How are we gonna to tell Stu to slow down

when he's going too fast!

We still want it to be fun.

I know!

C'mon!

We make signs,

like my train has.

Yes! Signs to tell Stu what to do,

like when to slooow down.

Ok, what did the sign say?

How about:

'Stu, please slow down.

So we don't crash into Mom.

Have a nice day. Love Luke and Lyla.'?

I don't think that will fit.

We need something easy

that means slow down.

I know!

A turtle?

Yeah. Turtles are slow.

So Stu, When you see this turtle symbol,

It means go slow.

[trills]

Hey Stu, c'mon!

[trills]

And when you see this sign, it means go fast.

I get it, 'cause rabbits are fast.

Yup! Turtle means slow,

rabbit means fast.

Got it, Stu?

[trills]

Where are you taking your fish?

It's time for his bath.

[baby talk] Isn't that right Baby Bwoosie-Woosie?

Fish need baths?!

Baby Bruce is special.

Well, anyway, our train needs to come through here,

so watch out.

Well, I need to take Brucey to the bathroom,

so your train has to stop for us.

Yeah, and I need to practice marching with my trombone!

Okay, how are we supposed to tell Stu

to lookout for fish and trombones?

Maybe we need another sign.

Something that tells Stu to stop and wait.

That's genius!

Hey Stu, this sign means

if you see Liana or Louisa, STOP,

then wait till they're gone. Then, GO!

[trills]

We're almost done, Luke, c'mon!

[trills]

And now the most important sign of all: the STOP sign!

Stu, this sign means you stop right here.

[trills]

It will keep us from crashing again... I hope.

[trills]

Lets roll!

[♪♪]

[trills]

[♪♪]

Go Stu!

I can't feel my face!

Turtle sign up ahead!

[trills]

The sign worked,

Stu has gone Turtle speed!

Oh hey, Mom, can you please get me a snaaa---

[baby talk] You're so nice and clean, aren't you my Brucey!

Excuse me, I'm practicing here.

Beep! Beep! Watch out!

[shrieks]

[trills]

[trills]

Wahhhh!

Whew.

My baby!

That's right.

I'm a she-ro.

I'll never let you go again.

At least our sign worked.

Choo choo!

Woooo!

Last stop up ahead!

Hey! Who wants lemonade?

The stop sign!

Stu can't see it!

BEEP BEEP! WATCH OUT!

Whoa, look out!

Whooaaa!

Waaaah!

[elevator ding]

Stu, Stop!

Whoaaaa!

Cool train.

Choo choo!

Grocery delivery!

The stop sign worked!

Thanks for the delivery.

Our pleasure, madame!

Anyone want a ride on our super express train?

No...

Good day for a walk..

Suit yourselves!

Go, Stu!

[trills]

WHAAAAAA!!!
