♪Lyla in the Loop!

[Lyla] "Every Sand-Which Way!"

[♪♪]

...And my mom says that we can visit Grandpa

and his restaurant in Hanoi this summer!

Whoa!

That's gonna be so cool!

No, it's gonna be sooo hot!

Vietnam in July is no joke.

[door opens]

Hi, Mr. L.

Whatcha doin', Dad?

Well, I just did the first grocery run.

Now I need to run to the produce market

to stock up on veggies,

bake enough pies and cookies to last a few days,

and after all that, I get to sit down...

and create this week's Loops Lunch Special.

Whew...

Ev and I could come up with the Loops Lunch Special!

Hmmmm...

Creating the Loops Lunch Special,

Is a HUGE responsibility.

It's the most popular item on the menu every week.

We can do it! I know we can.

Please! And Stu can help, too.

[trills]

[Wah!]

Aha...

I don't know, Lyla.

The Loops Lunch Special is especially special.

A unique combo --

-- Makes you wanna mambo.

Looks good on the plate and tastes really great.

See! I know what it takes.

Please!

[hesitant] Uhh..

[laughs]

Okay, I'll be back to check on you.

-Yes! -Alright!

Hmmm, let's see...

What would make a good weekly special?

We could do a soup, or a salad,

Or...

I've got it! Let's make a sandwich.

Can't go wrong with a sandwich.

Yeah, but...

What kind of sandwich should we make?

Ham?

Bologna?

Turkey?

Oh, turkey's my favorite.

Turkey it is!

Hey, can I be the turkey sandwich taste-tester?

Yeah,

you wait in the diner like a customer,

and Stu will bring you the sandwich to taste test.

[excitedly] [trills]

Sweet.

Hey Stu,

please get a loaf of bread from the pantry.

I'll get sliced turkey from the fridge.

[trills]

[trills]

[trills]

Thanks, Stu.

I want our sandwich to be especially special,

but I don't want it to be too big or too messy.

What else should we add?

[gasp]

Whatcha doin?

Dad said I can create the Loops Lunch Special,

So we're making a sandwich and Ev's gonna be our taste-tester.

Whoa...

Dad's never let anyone else make the Loops Lunch Special before.

He's all:

[mimicking Louis] "The Loops Lunch Special is especially special."

I know!

That's why it has to be an especially special sandwich special.

I've already got some turkey and bread.

Can I add something?

I guess. Sure.

I like sweet things,

So I think turkey and gummy worms would go great together!

Gummy worms? Are you sure?

Have you ever seen a turkey sandwich,

With gummy worms on it?!

[trills]

[trills]

Its a "unique combo",

Just like Dad's poem says.

It is... unique.

Lets bring it to taste-tester Everett.

Hey, Stu!

[slurp]

Please take this out to Everett in the diner.

[trills]

[trills]

Thanks, waiter Stu.

[trills]

Okay, I'm about to take the first bite!

[bites and chews]

You like it?

Thumbs up?

or thumbs down?

Well...

The worms are sweet but too chewy.

And stuck in my teeth.

Good try, but --

-- thumbs down.

Aww!

It's alright. We can try again.

All yours, Stu. Eat!

[trills]

[chomp]

[slurp]

[Ahhhh...]

[burp]

Ooooh,

does Dad know you're in here?

Yep,

He said we could create this week's Loops Lunch Special,

So, we're making a sandwich.

Really?!

Dad's never let me make the Loops Lunch Special before.

Every time I ask, he repeats that poem.

[mimicking Louis] "The Loops Lunch Special is especially special..."

"Yada, yada, yada..."

Well, our first sandwich didn't work,

So we could use some more ideas. Wanna help?

You know it!

[♪♪]

I can't stand dry sandwiches.

They need a condiment, like mayo or...

how about barbecue sauce?

I still think it needs something sweet...

like cereal!

[♪♪]

And barbecue sauce on top.

[♪♪]

Now that's an especially special sandwich!

Time for a new taste-test!

[trills]

So you took off the gummy worms..

And added cereal and barbecue sauce?

Cool.

[Bites and chews]

Well...

This sandwich...

Let's see...

Thumbs up for looks..

But tangy barbecue cereal?!

...That's a thumbs down for taste.

Eat up Stu!

[chomp]

[burp]

What are y'all doing?

Dad said I could create this week's Loops Lunch Special,

so I decided to make a sandwich.

And then I put gummy worms on it,

but it was a really, really bad and then Louisa came to help--

But it didn't work.

--And now we're all trying again!

What they said.

I want in.

Show me what you have so far.

Well we have bread, turkey, cereal, and barbecue sauce.

Hmm, I see the problem...

The sandwich doesn't have a crunchy vegetable.

Lets add potato chips!

They're kinda a vegetable.

Uhhh...

Lets add some mustard too!

I don't think...

And cotton candy!

And hummus!

And cheese popcorn!

Corn's a vegetable!

And a scoop of ice cream on top!

Ummm... Seriously?

Now this is ART!

It looks really big and mushy,

And that's not what I wanted.

Yeah, but it'll taste amazing.

[Sigh] Fine.

Stu, please take this sandwich to Everett.

[trills]

[Woah.. Woah. Whoa...]

On second thought,

Maybe he should taste-test it here.

Everett!

[giggle] Can't wait to see what you think!

[widening his mouth] Ahh, ahh, ahh!

I think it's un-bite-able.

Too big, too mushy,

Two thumbs down.

All yours, Stu!

[eating noises]

[satisfied] [Ahhhhh...]

Hmm, so Everett didn't like our Loops Lunch Special sandwich.

Can you blame him?

Who wants ice cream and cotton candy on a sandwich?

That's the best part!

Nobody likes chips and popcorn on a sandwich!

Chips and popcorn are crunchy vegetables, kinda!

Maybe it was that mustard, barbecue sauce, and hummus!

Oh no, you DIDN'T come for my condiments!

They made the sandwich all mushy.

Excuse you! Everybody likes condiments!

I'm making another sandwich.

Well, so am I!

Me too!

[Door slam]

Hey, Lil' Loops.

How are things going with the Loops Lunch Special?

Terrible!

I let everybody help and they all kept adding more and more things,

and the sandwich just got big and mushy and gross!

Hmm...

Working with a team can be a challenge, huh?

I was trying to listen to everybody,

But it's hard to tell them 'No', when they all want to help.

Yeah, I get that.

It's important to listen to your teams ideas,

but I put you in charge of the Loops Lunch Special, right?

Yes.

Well, as the leader, you're in charge

of getting the team to work together, right?

Right.

Thanks, Dad. I'm gonna go fix the Loops Lunch Special.

I don't know what happened in here,

But I DO know we need to work together to make a sandwich,

That looks good on the plate and tastes really great!

Eat, Stu, eat!

[trills]

[Eating noises]

So first we're going to add...

-Ketchup! -Nuts! -Cereal!

We're gonna add turkey.

Then, Luke you like sweet stuff,

And Louisa, you like sauces, right?

-Yep -Uh huh.

Do we have any sweet sauces?

We have honey barbecue sauce!

I love honey barbecue!

Now, we're gonna add a crunchy veggie;

A REAL veggie that goes with everything else.

Any ideas?

I know! The crunchy vegetable that every Loops sandwich has--

Pickles!

And for the finishing, extra special, unique touch--

Granny Loops' famous coleslaw,

because it's cool, creamy and refreshingly tangy.

Oooohhhhh!

That's an especially special Loops Lunch Special!

Taste test time!

[Sniffs]

[Bites and chews]

Mmm,

this sandwich is... Yum-azing!

MmmMmmMMMmmMMMM!

You know what I think?

You kids made this special, SO special,

It can stay on the menu permanently!

- Woohoo! / We did it! - Yeah! / Alright!

There!

Now we have plenty of room to play,

Red light, Green light!

[confused] [trills]

It's really, really fun!

Stu, here are the rules,

If Lyla says...

Green light!

Then you start moving towards her

without running.

But if she says...

Red Light!

Then, you have to freeze in place!

If I open my eyes and see you moving,

After I say, "Red light!"

Then you have to go all the way back to the starting line.

The first one to touch Lyla, wins!

[trills]

Lets play!

And just so you know Stu...

[whispered] I'm very good at this game...

[trill]

Green light!

[Efforts]

Red light!

Ooh, somersaults!

Very clever Stu.

Green light!

[trills]

Red light!

[trills]

[gasp]

Whoa! Oof!

Uh oh, Luke! You moved!

Oof-fah-loof.

Green light!

[giggles]

It's a tie!

Luke, how'd you catch up with Stu?

Toldja I was good.

[Lyla] "Growing Up"

[♪♪]

[Lyla] Mom, mom, mom!

We should make our own Scratch N' Sniff stickers

and stick them on the Loops Lunch menu!

Let's show her Stu!

[trills]

[trills]

I see.

And why would customers need these stickers?

So they know what the food smells like BEFORE they order it.

Like this -

[Scratching]

[Sniff... Sniff... Sniff...]

[Sniff... Sniff... Sniff]

[Customer voice] 'This burger smells deeelicious! I'll have one of those.'

[normal voice] What do you think?!

Smells like a good idea to me! File it in the wall of ideas.

- Yes - [trills]

See Stu,

The wall of ideas is a place where we keep ideas we want to do in the future,

so we don't forget.

[Ohhh.]

Add Scratch N' Sniff stickers to the menu.

Done.

Here ya go Mom!

Thank ya.

What's this?

Ohh that's a bag of callaloo seeds.

A good idea I couldn't figure out how to do.

When I was your age,

I remember being in Granny's garden in Jamaica.

The callaloo she grew would get sooo tall,

it was like I was just walking through a forest.

Whoooa!

I wanted to grow a garden like Granny's, so I could make callaloo stew for you.

[Quizzically] [trills]

[laughing] No not you, Stu. A stew like a soup!

[Ohhh.]

But I haven't figured out where we can put a garden.

I want to make a garden just like Granny's

I bet we can find someplace!

Okay, my little go-getter, what do you think a garden needs?

- Hmmm... - [Hmmm...]

Well plants need lots of sun and water.

And don't forget: space to grow

We got this, Mom.

C'mon Stu, let's find a place to make a garden.

Maybe there's a spot out here for a garden.

[Lyla] Trees!

Trees are plants, let's check it out.

There's lots of sun,

[Stu] [trills]

But...

...no space for anything but the tree.

[Lyla] I don't see ANY good garden spots out here.

Maybe there's a good place in the back.

Plenty of sunlight and space here.

[trills]

And there's even a hose for water.

[trills]

But I wonder if anything can even grow back here.

I don't see any soil.

- [Gasp] - [Ah!]

Plants on the wall!

[Wow.]

If those plants can grow back here,

then callaloo should be able to grow, too.

We gotta show Mom!

[trills]

It's exactly what we're looking for.

There's sun,

there's water

and look at all this spaaace!

[trills]

Hmmm...

Where's a good place to plant back here?

That plant's growing on the wall!

Can the callaloo grow on the wall like that?

Ooo, like a garden on the wall!

Our garden's still going to need some soil, though.

How could we do that?

Hmmm...

Wait,

we can make something like that.

A window box,

and stick it on the wall.

Let's give it a try.

You go upstairs and find containers we can use to hold the plants.

I'll go to Phan's hardware to buy gardening supplies.

Gettin' it done,

And havin' some funnn!

Hey Stu, c'mon!

[trills]

Hmmm...

Need that.

Nope.

Still using this.

- [chewing] - [trills]

Uh... want some cereal, Stu?

Coming right up!

[trills]

Lyla! Could you grab the milk?

I'm busy, Luke.

But it's for Stu!

Okay, okay.

Huh...

Who put an empty container back in the fridge?

There's still a little left.

[trills]

[drip]

See? Now it's done.

Here ya go, Stu, eat up!

[gobbling]

[Satisfied] [trills]

[♪♪]

Wait.

We can use containers from the recycling bin!

Hey Stu, let's go!

[trills]

We found containers!

I got supplies!

What'd ya find to hold the plants?

[trills]

I found these. But this one won't work.

It has holes in it.

Actually, holes are a good thing.

Really?

Uh-huh.

They let extra water drain out.

All of the containers we use will need holes in 'em.

But this one is too small.

Not enough room for the roots to grow.

So let's pick out the biggest containers.

[trills]

Hmmm...

These ones!

I'll cut 'em open.

Stu and I'll decorate 'em to make 'em look nice!

Gettin' it done,

And havin' some funnn!

[Laughing]

[♪♪]

[♪♪]

[trills]

[trills]

It's all coming together!

How about...

a lemonade break?

Yes please!

Next we put 'em up on the wall, right Mom?

Ab-soil-lutley! [laughing]

We need to find something to stick the containers on the wall.

[Okay!]

A-ha, tape!

Hold this, please.

It works!

Now, we just need to do the rest.

Hey, Stu, I'll put the tape on these containers,

and you stick 'em on the wall.

Let's do this!

[trills]

[♪♪]

[trills]

[♪♪]

[stuck tape]

[Stu] [Efforts]

[♪♪]

[trills]

We did good.

Oh no!

Looks like it needs more tape.

Hey Stu,

Please hold the bottle up against the wall,

and I'll tape it up.

[trills]

[trills]

Oops!

I'll get you un-stuck, Stu.

[tape rip]

Ahhh!

[gasp] Ahh! Ughh.

[groan]

Whoa, what happened here?

I tried to hang the containers up with tape,

but it didn't quite work.

Tape doesn't stick to brick very well, does it?

It looks like we need a new plan.

But first: lemonade.

Thanks!

[trills]

[slurping] Hmmm...

[slurping]

Maybe we could use glue!

[gasp] Or super glue?

Hmmm...

[gasp] How is the flower box staying up on the wall?

It looks like it's screwed in.

[gasp]

Maybe if we screw the containers into the wall,

then they won't come down.

Ohh, yes!

And we can put them on pieces of wood so they don't damage the bricks.

Can we try it?

I like any solution that includes power tools.

[♪♪]

[trills]

Do we put in the soil now?

Yup!

And then we can plant the callaloo seeds!

Yay! And Stu can help.

Hey, Stu! Fill the containers with soil, please,

then stop.

[trills]

[trills]

[♪♪]

[Lyla] Look, all the bottles are staying up!

Lyla-loo, now what do we do?

Plant the callaloo seeds?!

Bingooo! You plant 'em I'll water 'em.

[♪♪]

In a few weeks, we'll have our own little callaloo forest.

[♪♪]

Grow callaloo, grooow!

Ugh... Still no callaloo.

Today's the day, Stu,

there's gonna be callaloo in the garden. I can feel it.

[trills]

[Lydia] Plants grow in their own sweet time.

Look, Mom. There's something growing!

I see it! Hello, little sprouts.

Oh the garden turned out great, lyla!

Will keep watering it

'til the callaloo grows as tall as in Granny's garden.

Hey Stu,

It's watering timei

[trills]

I can't wait to make you the callaloo stew.

[trills]

[laughing] Ahhh! Not you, Stu!
