MOLLY: "Picking Cloudberries."

And then we flew off into the midnight sun.

Wow.

That's so cool!

Mom, when are you coming home?

Tonight.

I have one final trip to make, and then I'll be home.

Finally.

I know!

It's been such a long two weeks.

Whoops, I got to go.

But I'll see you for dinner.

♪ Yay!

We should have a big welcome home feast for her.

Good idea.

We could grill reindeer sausages

And I'll make a pie.

Mmm, no.

It should be made with her favorite berry,

and you know what that is.

GRANDPA NAT: Cloudberries!

Layla's favorite.

Hey, everyone!

Molly here to answer your questions

about life in Alaska.

Reina from Ohio asks,

"What kinds of berries grow in Alaska?"

Let's see.

ALL: Hi, Molly!

BOY: We're looking for crowberries and blueberries.

So we brought cards to help us identify them.

I've seen some blue things, but they're just not blueberries.

Maybe they're crowberries.

"Crowberries grow on small shrubs

"that grow very close to the ground.

"Their leaves are small, green, and needle-like.

The round berries are very dark blue or black in color."

Can you read that again, 'cause I didn't understand.

"Crowberries grow on small shrubs

"that grow very close to the ground.

"Their leaves are small, green, and needle-like.

The round berries are very dark blue or black in color."

Okay.

BOY : There's a lot of crowberries over here that are big.

BOY : Look, over there.

GIRL: I think these are blueberries.

Use the card to figure it out.

GIRL: "Alaskan blueberries grow

"close to the ground in the tundra.

"And the blueberries are smooth, sound, and shiny.

Their leaves are green and oval-shaped."

Wait, sound?

I think that's a typo.

It should say "round."

Can you read it again?Sure.

"Alaskan blueberries grow

"close to the ground in the tundra.

"And the blueberries are smooth, round, and shiny.

Their leaves are green and oval-shaped."

BOY : I think usually the leaves are green,

but right now they're red, because it's fall.

GIRL: Ooh, blueberry!

Ooh these are good!

BOY : Mmm!

GIRL: Mmm!Mmm!

Good find!

[screaming]: Blueberries!

BOY : Blueberries!No!

[laughter]

GIRL: In Alaska, we like to freeze berries

for the winter.

BOY : What I liked about today is eating blueberries.

ALL: Bye, Molly!

Mahsi'choo!

Thanks for asking and see you next time.

MOLLY: "Puzzled."

TOOEY: ,

Ready or not, here I come!

Come out, come out wherever you are.

Are you here?

[sighs] Worth a sh*t.

I told you not to play with this baseball.

It's signed.

[meows]

[mouse toy jingling]

Hmm.

Shh.

Hmm.[jingling continues]

I wonder if...

Huh?

[meows]

Oh, you again.

[sighs] Where is she?

Molly nani?

Okay, I give up.

Where are you?

Gotcha![screams]

[laughing]

[floorboard creaks]

Oops, I think I broke your floor.

Nah, that always does that.

Wait, I think there's something down there.

Genee gonee?

What is it?

Gashaandai kwaa.

I don't know.

[tapping]

Ah![crashes]

Whoa.Whoa.

Why is there a box under your floor?

Beats me.

I didn't put it there.Open it.

There isn't any lid.

But there's definitely something inside.

Listen.

[rattling]

Molly!

Look.

That piece moved.

Here, can I see it again?

Maybe there's a trick to opening it.

See if you can slide something else.

Ta-da!

We're going to have this open in no time.

[grunts]

Why won't you open?

Try twisting it the other way.

[frustrated]: We already tried that.

I have just the thing for this.

[chuckles] Whoa!

Whatever it is you're trying to open,

I bet there's a better way.

We found this box under the floorboard.

This was under the floor?

Wow.

It's a puzzle box.

A puzzle box?

I remember seeing them when I was growing up in Japan.

Are you sure it's a puzzle?

Puzzles can be solved.

This is impossible.

[laughing]

It just takes patience.

You have to find the right combination of moves.

Here, I'll show you.

[Kenji grunts]

[grumbles]

Why won't it open?

Here.

Keep trying.

But it'd be a good idea to write the steps down.

That way, if you do manage to open it,

you'll know how you did it.

Ah.

Let's start from the beginning again.

So first we pushed the back panel to the left.

And then we slid both small panels to the right.

Okay, now try sliding that bottom panel.

I've done that already.

Oh.

Well, how about giving the whole thing a twist?

I've already tried that too.

That was like three steps ago.

Huh.

Oh, right.

Hey!

I've got an idea.

Maybe we should number the steps

and put them in order.

Let's start again.

Good thinking.

Step one: push panel A to the left.

TOOEY: Slide long panel A to the right.

[sighs]

This is where we got to when Dad left.

And there's nothing left to slide or twist.

Hmm.

Wait.

Let's try one more thing.

Step six: push on star.

[both gasp]Yes!

We did it!

And we have all the steps written down in order.

So if we ever need to,

we can open it again.

What is it?

It's made of glass.

[gasps] I wonder if it has some sort of...

magic power.

[gasps]

Look what's carved inside the lid.

"B.H."?

I bet they're the initials of the original owner.

Hmm.

I don't know anyone with those initials.

Neither do I.

But I know who might.

B.H.

Hmm.

Growing up,

there was a kid we called Big Harry.

But he was just visiting from Ketchikan.

Sorry.

You can check old property records

at the library.

They can tell you who lived in your house long ago.

It must do something.

Why would anybody just have a glass ball?

[yelps]

MOLLY: It's going into the river!

Oh, no! Catch it!

[yelps] I can't watch!

Hey!

It floats.

Yeah!

[laughs] Whew!

Almost lost your fishing float.

Fishing float?

Yep.

That's an old Japanese fishing float.

We had a few of them in the antique store I used to work in.

Better put it somewhere safe.

They're pretty fragile.

You're lucky it didn't break.

Basee',Connie.

Thanks!

So was B.H. a Japanese fisherman?

Whoa.

This is getting more mysterious

by the second.

Hmm, let's see.

According to the register book,

before the Coopers lived in your house,

it was... mmm,

Ebenezer Higginbottom.

Hmm, that doesn't sound like a Japanese fisherman.

No, but the last name begins with an H,

like the initials on the box.

Hmm.

It might be worth a try.

I can't find any listings for an Ebenezer Higginbottom.

[groaning]

Wait a minute.

There is an Elizabeth Higginbottom.

And she lives in Healy, Alaska.

That's not too far from here.

Yeah, it's like an hour away.

Would you two like to go on a little road trip?

KENJI: This is it.

[car door closes]

MOLLY: Wow.

Look at that birdhouse.

It's more like a bird mansion.

ELIZABETH: My father made that.

He called himself a carpenter,

but really he was an artist.

Hi, my name is Tooey Ookami.

Are you Ms. Elizabeth Higginbottom?

In the flesh.

But no one calls me Elizabeth.

I'm Betsy.

Betsy Higginbottom.

B.H.B.H.

This belongs to you.

[gasps]Oh.

My puzzle box.

Here, Mrs. Higginbottom.

We wrote down the steps for opening it.

Such a good idea to write them down.

It's definitely tricky, but I think I can remember.

Oh, this brings back such memories.

When I was eight, we spent a glorious summer

on the coast in Sitka.

Every day, I went beachcombing,

finding the most amazing things.

But nothing was as special

as the beautiful glass fishing float.

It became my most precious possession.

Of course my younger brother, Teddy, fancied it as well.

So my father made a box for it

that Teddy couldn't get into.

But then Teddy started

to figure the box out.

So I hid it under the floor.

Why didn't you take it with you when you moved?

Well, that was a few years later.

And I just forgot it was there.

But I sure am glad to see it now.

Thank you so, so much

for returning it, Tooey.

You're welcome.

Would you like the box?

I think my fishing float is safe now.

Wow!

Basee',thank you.

And actually,

I know just what I'm going to put in it.

[meows]

Ha!

There.

Try getting into that!

[meows]

Whoa.

You got to be kidding me!
