Hello, folks. It's me the conductor. Today, buddy and

Tiny meet a new dinosaur called daspletosaurus and stomp around

With her, so come on along with me on the dinosaur train. All

Aboard!

[Whistle blows] ♪ dinosaur train ♪

♪ Once upon a time there was a mom

Her name was mrs. Pteranodon sitting on her nest

She heard a scratching and said... ♪

Oh, boy! My eggs are hatching!

♪ One by one her kids popped free

Baby pteranodons , , ♪

I'll name you tiny, shiny, and don.

♪ But tiny said... ♪ Wait! There's one more, mom!

♪ Last little baby was a different size

With teeth and a tail and big green eyes

He didn't look anything like the rest ♪

What am I doing in a pteranodon nest?

♪ But dear, old mrs. Pteranodon said... ♪

Oh, this is your family, and I'm your mom. You may be

Different, but we're all creatures. All dinosaurs have

Different features. Come on, buddy. We'll take a vacation.

I'll get us a ticket at pteranodon station. We'll

Travel the world in sunshine and rain and meet all the

Species on the...

We all lose things sometimes, tiny.

But I lost shiny's shell! I know she's gonna be mad at me.

But it's her favorite shiny shell in the whole world.

Hey! I have an idea, tiny.

Let's go down to the beach and look for a new shiny shell.

[Squawk] good idea, buddy.

I don't know. Even if we find a new shell, it won't be the

Maybe it's some dinosaur we've never met. Whatever it

Yep! That's how I like to walk. By the way, I'm daphne!

Hi, daphne! I'm tiny pteranodon, and this is my

Brother buddy and my dad--dad.

I thought you were going to be a really huge dinosaur. I

Mean, you were so loud when you were stomping before we could

Yeah! I'm not that big, but I can still stomp really loud!

It makes me happy!

Wait. Stomping makes you happy? I was stomping around

Because I was mad.

It's true.

Why were you so mad, tiny?

Well, um, you tell her buddy.

Tiny lost our sister's favorite shiny shell. She

Thinks shiny's gonna be really mad at her when she gets back

Home.

Find her a new shell.

That's what we were trying to do.

But none of the shells on this beach are shiny enough!

Tiny, don't yell.

You'll scare away the shells. Ha ha ha!

Ha ha ha!

You know, buddy and daphne, you really look a lot alike.

We do?

I've been trying to figure out what kind of dinosaur you

Are, daphne. Let's see. Um, a daspletosaurus?

Whoa! How did you know that?

Buddy knows a lot about dinosaurs. You and buddy have

So many of the same features.

Heh heh! You even have just two fingers.

Whoa!

You're right! And short, little arms!

And big heads and teeth!

Ahhhh!

You walk on two legs, and so do i.

And how about our feet? Mine are pretty big!

Mine are even bigger.

They're great to stomp around with. My dad says I'll probably

Grow into my feet when I'm older.

I've seen what grownup t.

Rexes look like. They're huge, so that means I'll be huge

Someday.

Hmm. Daspletosaurus don't grow to be that tall.

Well, that's definitely a difference between us then.

[Squawk] oh, no! Look! It's shiny!

She's back home already! Quick!

Look for shiny shells, everybody!

What are you guys doing?

Oh. Hi, shiny. Um, you're here.

I'm sorry, shiny! I didn't mean to lose your shiny shell,

And I tried to find it! I really did! I will find you a

Great new one and the old one, too!

Whoa, tiny, stop! It's really ok. Things get lost all

The time. Plus, part of the fun of collecting things is looking

For new things!

Really? So you're not mad at me that I lost your favorite

Shell?

[Gasp] wait. Which shell did you lose?

My favorite?!

The one with the shiny specks all around the edges.

Yeah, that's the one I lost.

Err! I can't believe you lost that one! It is my

Favorite! I'll never find one like that again!

Shiny, it will be ok. We'll help you find a new shiny

This is the pteranodon family.

I heard daphne talking about stomping. Boy, she should know.

Daphne used to be a real stomper.

But dad showed me that feet are better for dancing than

Yeah, dancing. Try it. I know it will make you feel

Cool!

Come on, tiny. Come on, shiny.

Whoa! This does feel better.

Come on, shiny!

[Squawk] ok!

Yeah! Stomp it out!

Dancing is better than stomping!

[All laughing] shiny, here's a new shiny

It actually looks like my favorite one, only better!

[Squawk] thanks, tiny!

Buddy and dad, you were right! We did find one!

Some are big, some petite but the way I make

My day complete I stomp in the swamp

[Laughing] hi, there. I'm dr. Scott the

Paleontologist, and this is daspletosaurus.

Daspletosaurus.

Daspletosaurus.

Daspletosaurus.

Daspletosaurus, like tyrannosaurus rex, was part of

A family of dinosaurs known as tyrannosaurs. Daspletosaurus

Shared a lot of things in common with its famous cousin

T. Rex. Both were bipedal, which means that they walked on

Two legs. Both had tiny arms with only two fingers on each

Hand, and both had large heads with mouths full of large,

Sharp teeth, perfect for eating meat.

[Doorbell rings] point of fact--tyrannosaurus

And daspletosaurus did not live at the same time.

Aw!

Well, that's a very good point...of fact. Both of these

Big carnivores lived during the cretaceous period, but

Daspletosaurus lived millions of years before t. Rex, and

There's another pretty big difference between these two

Tyrannosaurs. Daspletosaurus was actually smaller than t.

Rex. A grownup daspletosaurus was about feet long, almost

As long as a school bus, but tyrannosaurus was much bigger,

Over feet long, making it one of the biggest meat-eaters

Ever to walk on land. Ok. Keep watching for more dinosaur

Discoveries.

Dinosaurs were big!

Tiny, look at all these dinosaurs.

Oh! They're huge!

Someday, I'm gonna be one of the biggest carnivores on land!

Rawwr!

I'm a tyrannosaurus rex.

Hi, mrs. Gigiganotosaurus.

I wonder who really is the biggest dinosaur.

Good question.

Big he is, huge!

Whoa! That's one big dinosaur!

Let's take a ride on the dinosaur train

Here she comes right on time the dinosaur train's coming

♪ Rattle and bang rumble and roar

She's huffing and a-puffing like a hurricane

Let's take a ride on the dinosaur train ♪

[Cheering] hello, folks. It's me the

Conductor. Today, we're gonna meet a dinosaur with a most

Amazing crown of horns. It's called styracosaurus, so come

On along with me on the dinosaur train. All aboard!

[Humming] [squawk]

Look at me! See my long neck!

I'm ned the brachiosaurus!

Ho ho ho!

Whoa!

That's great, tiny.

Ta-da! See my beautiful feathers? I'm arlene

Archaeopteryx, and I am fabulous!

Whoa, shiny!

Beautiful!

Lookie here, everybody. It's me mrs. Conductor. You can tell

By my big, giant toe claw.

Bluhhh!

Ha ha ha! Don!

Oh, don.

I'm t*nk triceratops, and I am hungry!

[Chomping] [gulp]

Ho ho! Oh, boy!

Oh, great!

Thanks! Isn't it amazing the way our dinosaur friends look

So different from each other?

Yeah. I wonder which species of dinosaur is the most

Amazing-looking of all.

You mean, like maybe one that has more horns than any

Other dinosaur?

Hmm. Well, there's t*nk and his family. Those triceratops

Have lots of big horns.

That's true, but I've seen another dinosaur at the big

Pond with even bigger and more elaborate horns.

Bigger horns than t*nk's and more?

What's the dinosaur called?

How many horns do they have?

Did you count?

If they're at the big pond, can we see them, please?

Well, I just counted questions. That's a lot for so

Early in the morning.

And I'll bet I know who has all the answers.

The conductor!

Exactly.

And where can we find him?

On the dinosaur train!

[Squawk] off we go, team pteranodon!

[Cheering] too bulky.

Too toey.

Not shiny enough.

Ha ha ha!

[Train whistle blows] tickets! Tickets, please!

Hello, pteranodon family.

Hello, mr. Conductor!

And hello, t*nk triceratops.

Ha ha ha! It's me--buddy!

Well, bless my scales and feathers! That is one terrific

Costume. Great attention to detail, an excellent faux frill.

Mr. The conductor, you should have seen my costume. I

Had a big toe claw, and I said, "bluhhh!"

Mother?!

Ha ha ha!

Ha ha! Good one, don. Ha ha!

All our costumes were unique just like the dinosaurs we know.

But mom said that there's one dinosaur that's really

Amazing. It has even more horns than t*nk!

I've actually only seen one from a distance. Trudy

Triceratops told me about it.

Trudy was right, mrs. "P".

That dinosaur is styracosaurus.

They're pretty famous in the ceratopsian family.

What's a ceratopsian?

Glad you asked, mr. The don.

Ceratopsians are a group of big horned dinosaurs who also have

Frills. Who can name this one?

Triceratops!

That's right! And while all ceratopsians have horns and

Frills like triceratops, none of them are as showy as

Styracosaurus.

Ooh!

See that massive frill and huge spikes? You can bet they

Get styracosaurus a whole lot of attention!

Can we meet a styracosaurus?

Well, your mother's right.

There is a local styracosaurus family that hangs around the

Big pond. Oh! And speaking of which, big pond! Next stop, big

Pond!

Bye, mr. Conductor!

[Squawk] look! Isn't that t*nk?

≫ let's sneak up and surprise him. Can we, mom?

[Squawk] sure.

Pteranodons think they are flying right above us big

Triceratops? Pteranodons? Hey, guys! Those pteranodons are my

Friend...

Buddy?!

What's a hornucopia celebration?

It's a big event to celebrate when a ceratopsian's

Horns start to show.

That's right, and no one shows off their horns like our

Friends the styracosaurus family. They put on quite a

Show.

A show? A real show?! Oh, I love shows! When does it start?

Not till sundown, so we have time to play a game.

Yeah! Hide-and-seek!

[Cheering] hide-and-seek! I'll be it!

, , , , ! Ready or not, here I come!

[Squawk] found you shiny and you,

t*nk.

[Giggling] hmm. Hello, mr. New kind of

Flower.

Ha ha ha!

Are those horns sticking out from that bush? Aah! You guys,

Look at these sticks. Don's using them to make pretend

Horns.

Don?

Don, is that you in there?

Is it me? I don't think so.

Don?!

Wait a minute. If don's here, then those horns must

Belong to...

[Giggling] ta-da!

Stacey!

Hey, t*nk!

Buddy, tiny, shiny, don, this is my friend stacey

Styracosaurus.

I heard all you guys playing, and it sounded like so

Much fun, so I had to join in.

Wow! Did you really just grow all those incredible horns?

Pretty much. That's how it happens with most of us

Ceratopsians. We get to a certain age, and then our horns

Start to grow, and voila!

What do your horns do?

Do? They don't do. They are my do, my frill do, perfect for

Showing off, right?

If I had horns like those, I'd show them off all the time.

They're so new and shiny!

And pointy!

And...

♪ La la loo ♪ thanks, pteranodons.

And even though you and t*nk are both ceratopsians, your

Horns are different. You have thicker horns and more of them,

And your horns curve differently.

Ha ha ha! Are your friends always this observant?

Always. They're smart.

Ok. My turn. Open your mouths, please.

Ahhhhh!

Huh. Interesting. You have a full mouth of sharp t. Rex

Teeth, and you have beaks with no teeth. Now check this out.

Ahh!

Wow! Your beak has no teeth in front.

But wait! It's full of teeth further back on the sides.

Pretty unusual, huh? They really help for doing one of my

Favorite things, eating leaves!

[Chomping] already on it!

[Giggling] oh, t*nk!

Hey! I have an idea for a game. Vine toss! , , , Toss!

Yes!

[Cheering] I'm sonia styracosaurus, and

I would like to introduce my husband stuart styracosaurus.

My older daughter steffi styracosaurus!

And now hoof roll, please!

[Rumbling] my younger daughter stacey

Styracosaurus and her new frill of remarkable horns! Oh, we're

So proud of her for reaching this important day!

[Cheering] hi. Thanks for coming to my

Hornucopia. When I was a little styracosaurus, I didn't have

Any horns. I wished and wished for them. My parents said,

"Just wait. Before you know it, you'll have a big crown of

Horns like we do," and then one day, they kind of popped out,

And now I'm very proud. Thank you!

[Cheering] we love you, stacey, and now

It's showtime! Hit it!

And now the styracosaurus family shadow show!

Whoa!

[Cheering] so how was it?

[Squawk] it was wonderful, stacey!

Hi, there. I'm dr. Scott the paleontologist, and this is one

Of my favorite dinosaurs, styracosaurus.

Styracosaurus!

Check out all those horns.

There's one big horn up front on the nose and a whole bunch

Of horns at the back of the head. Now there's a big,

Powerful animal today that sort of resembles styracosaurus.

A rhinoceros.

Yup. Rhinos have nose horns like styracosaurus but none of

The horns at the back of the head. Now what do you think

Styracosaurus used all of those horns for?

Fighting meat-eaters.

Protecting itself.

Great guesses. Although we're not sure, we think that

Those horns may have been used mostly for showing off to other

Styracosaurs. Hey. Those are great horns.

[Moo] whoa! Ok. Get outside, get into

Nature, and make your own discoveries.

[Moo] did you know that the

Dinosaur train travels everywhere in the mesozoic era?

Let's look at the map. There was the triassic, jurassic, and

Cretaceous time periods. Let's visit the cretaceous. Many new

Kinds of flowers and insects appeared during this time. The

Most dinosaurs, like tyrannosaurus rex, and flying

Creatures, like pteranodons, lived in the cretaceous, and

That's just one of the stops on the dinosaur train!
