Hi, there. I'm dr. Scott, the paleontologist. And this is

Sanajeh, an -foot snake that lived with the dinosaurs in the

Cretaceous time period. Sanajeh is big, but there have been

Plenty of bigger snakes. Not long after the age of dinosaurs,

An african snake named gigantophis grew over feet

Long. And then there was titanoboa that lived in south

America. This huge snake grew up to feet long. That's bigger

Than a school bus. Snakes in the mesozoic era, like snakes today,

Don't have arms or legs, so most of the bones in a snake are back

Bones, or vertebrae. And lots of ribs. All snakes are reptiles,

And all of them are predators too. Many of these slithering

Serpents have an amazing ability to catch prey using their whole

Body. Some snakes, including sanajeh and pythons living

Today, open their mouths really wide, allowing them to swallow

Animals that are much bigger than their heads. Snakes are

Mr. Conductor, I have a question.

Miss tiny, I am ready.

Why did my favorite buttercup flowers wilt and die?

Hmm. I'm sorry about your flowers, tiny, but that is a

Great question. And the short answer is, in nature everything

Changes.

Ooh!

Didn't I say that?

It must be the hat, dear.

Hmm!

This is a life cycle chart.

It shows how nature--in this case, a flowering plant--

Changes over time. A flower starts as a seed in the ground,

Which changes into a sprout.

The sprout pushes up through the soil and becomes a plant. Then

The plant changes, growing flowers like your buttercups,

Tiny. But the flower's work isn't done.

[Sighs] this is the part when the flowers wilt.

The flower changes again. It wilts and falls off the plant,

And its seeds return into the soil, where--ta da!--They grow

New plants, and the cycle starts all over again.

Bringing even more changes.

Right. The cycle goes round and round. Tiny, your buttercups

Went through a life cycle, so while you're out nature-tracking
