Hello, folks.

It's me--the conductor. Today, big dinosaur week continues

When the pteranodon family meets another big dinosaur--

Apatosaurus.

So come on along with me on the dinosaur train.

All aboard!

♪ Dinosaur train ♪ [whistle blows]

♪ Dinosaur train ♪ ♪ once upon a time

There was a mom her name was mrs. Pteranodon

Sitting on her nest she heard a scratching

And said... ♪ Oh, boy! My eggs are

Hatching!

♪ One by one her kids popped free

Baby pteranodons , , ♪

I'll name you tiny, shiny, and don.

♪ But tiny said... ♪ Wait! There's one more, mom!

♪ Last little baby was a different size

With teeth and a tail and big green eyes

He didn't look anything like the rest ♪

What am I doing in a pteranodon nest?

♪ But dear, old mrs. Pteranodon said... ♪

Oh, this is your family, and I'm your mom. You may be

Different, but we're all creatures. All dinosaurs have

Different features. Come on, buddy. We'll take a vacation.

I'll get us a ticket at pteranodon station. We'll

Travel the world in sunshine and rain and meet all the

Species on the...

I wonder who we're gonna meet next.

[Bell rings] snacks. Get your

Ooh. What have you got?

Well, I've got fishwiches, carrion on a stick, and, of

Course, that dinosaur train classic, leafloaf.

Fishwich, please.

Actually two.

Me, too!

Me three!

Carrion on a stick, please.

Aw. Isn't anyone gonna order my leafloaf?

[Mom chuckles weakly] fishwich, please.

Hold on.

I know a herbivore at the next stop who loves leafloaf.

He has one huge appetite, because he's one of...

The biggest dinosaurs!

Rightie-o, pteranodon clan.

Is it someone we've met before?

I don't think so, buddy.

In fact, you never know where he's gonna be. Ha ha.

He's a daring adventurer who travels all over the world

Searching for hidden natural treasures. We're gonna meet the

Legendary apollo apatosaurus!

Whoa!

Hmm, he has a long neck, like a sauropod.

That's because he is a sauropod.

Right.

Like all sauropods, apollo has a long neck, a long back, and

A long tail.

But notice how the bones in his back have empty spaces in and

Around them. Th-- why?

Those spaces are filled with air instead of bone, which

Means that huge backbone weighs a lot less.

And since the apatosaurus has lighter neck bones, it's easier

For them to hold their heads up.

He has a really long tail, too. It's as long as his neck.

Excellent observation, buddy.

And apollo can do a nifty trick with that long tail.

I'm sure he'll be happy to show you if he has the time.

[Bell rings] ooh! Time? Time!

Time tunnel.

Time tunnel approaching.

[Bell clangs] next stop, apatosaurus acres

Station in the jurassic time period. Have fun with apollo,

Pteranodons and t. Rex.

Bye-bye!

It's always an adventure with him.

I don't see anybody.

[Whip cracking noise echoing] but I hear something.

[Whip cracking noise] it's a thunderstorm!

But it's not stormy out.

Then what's making that sound?

Me. I'm just trying to get your attention.

And if you want to know how I make that sound, don't look up.

Look down.

[Whip cracking noise] whoa.

Your tail can do that?

Yup. I use it to communicate with

Members of my herd--warn of danger and meet new friends.

Excuse me, sir.

Would you happen to be apollo apatosaurus?

Hmm. Who wants to know?

Tiny, shiny, don, and buddy.

Oh, and our mom, mom.

Hmm, yes.

Hooray!

Hi, apollo!

So you're the adventurer who does lots of exciting stuff

And finds treasure and makes great escapes?

Hmm, yes!

Can you take us on a big adventure?

Um, maybe a big adventure that's not too dangerous

Or scary. Maybe a more fun and imaginary big adventure.

You bet. Ahem.

Will you little adventurers help me find the lost,

The fabled, the most delicious?

The legendary treasure leaves?

Yes!

Are you ready?

Awk! My kids were hatched ready, mr. Apatosaurus.

Let's roll!

Yeah. Let's roll.

♪ La la lu ooh ooh... ♪ Down there's the river.

And I know some other apatosaurus who live over

That hill.

We're playing dodge tail.

Good, tiny!

That's using your imagination.

And that'll help a lot on our adventure.

You mean finding the legendary treasure leaves?

Exactly, buddy.

The legendary, fabled, delicious treasure leaves!

But first we'll have to-- [gasps]

Get past that huge predatory dinosaur!

Imaginary predatory dinosaur, right, apollo?

I don't see a predatory dinosaur.

Yeah. It's just a big old stump.

Well, if you squint your eyes a little...

Then it becomes a huge predatory dinosaur.

Awk! Oh, no!

It's a huge predatory dinosaur.

How are we ever going to get around it?

But we have to. The treasure leaves are somewhere on

The other side.

Relax, kids. Watch this!

Yay! Whoo!

Go, apollo!

What a tail!

I have a hypothesis. You can use your amazing tail like

A whip to defend yourself from real predators.

What do you mean, buddy? That was a real predator. Ha ha ha.

I'm kidding. What a smart bunch of kids, and great

Imaginations, too.

Awk.

But we better keep moving.

Those treasure leaves can only be seen when the sun is at its

Highest. And it's almost there now. Let's roll!

Whoa. Hold it, kids. There's a raging river just ahead.

A raging river! That sounds dangerous.

That's the raging river, mom.

We have to figure out a way across.

Without the river sweeping us away!

Or we'll never make it to the fabley treasure leaves in time.

Oh! If only there was a way to use apollo's mighty tail.

Hey!

[Buddy whispers indistinctly] hmm, good idea.

Long tail plus long neck equals dinosaur bridge!

Yeah!

We got a dinosaur bridge!

Awk! Come on!

[Pteranodons and buddy chuckling]

Oop. Whoa. Hang on, don.

All right, adventurers.

On to mossy hill.

We have to walk softly here.

Otherwise we'll shake loose that moss.

Awk! Look out.

A giant moss ball.

[Pteranodons and buddy chuckling]

This is quite an adventure.

I've got this. Oh! It's a high fly ball. Back, back,

Back. It's out of here.

[Cheering] yay! It's a home run!

Wow, apollo!

What an amazing tail.

Yup. That's how I use it to protect me and the other

Apatosaurus in my herd.

Um, yeah. That's great, apollo. Remember you said we had

To find the treasure leaves when the sun was highest in the sky?

Oops. You're right, tiny. The sun's nearing its highest point.

We'd better hurry.

Behold, the lost mountain.

Why is it called the lost mountain when we just found it?

Well, you can't call it found mountain.

Why not?

Because that doesn't sound as adventurous.

[Apollo sniffs] hmm, I smell them.

The treasure leaves, they're up there somewhere.

Buddy, you can use your keen t. Rex eyesight and smell

Together.

[Buddy sniffing] I think the treasure leaves

Are in that tree right there.

Hmm, can't quite see them.

We'll have to try to clear away some of the mist. I'll need all

Of you to help me. Pteranodons, flap those amazing wings. Buddy,

Take a deep breath. We'll try to blow this mist away.

[Buddy blowing]

Ooh! The treasure leaves.

Too bad they're way up on that cliff where I can't reach

Them. Hmm, if only there was a way.

Use your tail, apollo!

Huh? Use my tail?

Tail! Tail! Tail!

Now, that is a great idea.

Ok, stand back, everyone.

Whoo! Treasure leaves!

[Pteranodons laughing] now if I could only get them

To eat leafloaf.

[Apollo chuckles] that's good. Try again,

Like this.

[Whip cracking sound] whoa.

[Laughter] I meant to do that.

Oh, don.

Hello, pteranodon family.

Ooh, and I see you found apollo.

Yeah! We had an apatosaurus adventure.

Speaking of adventure, is anyone hungry for leafloaf?

Mm! Mm! I'm always hungry for leafloaf.

That-a boy, apollo. Eat up because it's time we were

All aboard!

Bye, apollo!

Thanks for that tail-cracking adventure.

[Apollo gulps] you bet.

[Tail cracks] come back anytime, buddy! Bye!

What a cool hungry sauropod.

Hey, sing it, buddy! Sing it!

♪ And don't forget that sauropods are hungry herbivores

We walk around on two big legs but they walk on all fours ♪

We do.

♪ Their necks and tails are extra long

And that is why they're in this song

With other dinos big and strong

Who are we gonna meet? ♪ Sound off!

Alamosaurus.

Oh, yeah!

Apatosaurus.

Oh, yeah!

Diplodocus.

Oh, yeah!

Argentinosaurus!

The biggest dinosaurs the biggest dinosaurs ♪

Whoo-hoo!

[Train whistle blows] hi, there, I'm dr. Scott the

Paleontologist, and as you can see, I'm here with two enormous

Friends, alamosaurus and apatosaurus, two of the biggest

Animals that ever lived on land. These huge creatures have

A lot in common. They both belong to the same group of

Dinosaurs called sauropods.

Both are quadrupeds, which means that they walked on

Legs. And both have long necks and long tails, but

Why do all these big guys have long tails? Some

Paleontologists think that sauropods like these used their

Tails to defend themselves against predators. Another

Thing that alamosaurus and apatosaurus have in

Common, they're both herbivores, or plant-eaters. Being such

Giant animals, these sauropods had to eat a lot, hundreds of

Pounds of greens every day!

Sauropods lived all over the world. How do we know? Their

Fossils have been found on every continent. Let's take a

Closer look at apatosaurus.

Apatosaurus was a gigantic dinosaur, some growing up to

Feet long. It had rows of pencil-shaped teeth at the

Front of its mouth and mostly ate plants close to the

Ground. Ok. Keep watching for more dinosaur discoveries!

Hello, folks. It's me the conductor. Today the

Pteranodon kids learn you can make art out of all kinds of

Stuff, including things you find out in nature, so come on

Along with me on the dinosaur train. All aboard!

[Humming] ♪ my crest

Ohhh yeah, it's the best

Oh, oh it's big and blue... ♪

Uh, mom?

Aah! Ooh! I was just, um--weren't you all going to

Play at the big pond?

Heh. We just got back, but if I'd know you'd be singing

And dancing, I wouldn't have left.

Oh, gee.

She wasn't just singing and dancing, dad. She cleaned. The

Nest is so neat. I love it.

Rawk! It was getting a little cluttered. I thought you

Kids could use some more room to play.

Yeah. Thanks, mom!

Whoo-hoo! Race you around the nest.

[Giggling] whoa! That's this? That is

One big pile.

Wow. Is this all for us?

Actually, it's stuff I found laying around the nest. My plan

Is to give it away or get rid of it.

Get rid of it?! No!

Yeah! These dried up leaves make a crunching sound when you

Squish them up. Listen.

[Crunch] what if you get rid of them and

I want to make a crunching sound?

Hmm. That is a dilemma.

These flower petals smell so good.

[Sniffing] and they're so pretty! We can't

Get rid of them. See? They bring out the color of my eyes?

Mom, didn't you know this piece of driftwood has holes in

It?

I did, don, but-- holes!

I know you love holes, don.

I understand, and I love that you're all so enthusiastic, but

These things have all been in the nest for a long time, and

You've never used them for anything.

Maybe they were mixed in with the other stuff and we

Didn't notice them.

Or realize how great they are!

Or how many holes they had!

I don't know, kids. I'd hate to clutter up the nest again

With things you don't use.

How about if we find a way to use it, mom? Then we don't

Need to give it away, right?

Well, I guess if you're gonna use these things I

Wouldn't give them away, but-- great! So how about you and

Dad go fishing for the afternoon, and when you come

Back, we'll have done something amazing with everything in that

Pile!

Hmm. Well, some fishing does sound nice.

Doesn't it? And wait till you see what we're gonna do.

You won't believe it.

Sounds great to me! Shall we?

I'd be delighted.

Heh heh. See you later, kids. We'll be right down below

Here on our beach.

Remember, if you need us, just rawk! We can hear you.

This is great, tiny. I can't wait to hear your idea for the

Stuff in the pile.

She just did, don. She's saying she doesn't have an

Idea, which means mom's going to get rid of the whole pile

When she comes back.

Oh! I get it.

She's not gonna get rid of it. I might not have an idea

Yet, but I will. I'm thinking.

[Gasp] [sigh]

[Sigh] hey! Maybe we can all try

And think of something. Come on, guys.

Think, nature trackers, think.

Buddy, that's it!

It is? What's it?

All this stuff is from nature, so if we want to know

How to use it, we should make it a nature trackers activity!

Hooray!

Come on, nature trackers.

Yoo-hoo! Tiny and shiny.

What are they doing?

I know. They're playing a game.

Of course. It's obvious.

You're supposed to get through the things on the beach without

Touching them. You jump over the seashells, scoot around the

Driftwood spikes, crawl through the hole in the sand, and voila!

What do you do at the voila?

That just means "ta-da! It's finished!"

Ooh! Hey. That sounds really fun!

Hi, don.

Hi, lily. Hi, leroy. Can I play?

Sure you can play. It's really fun!

Great! Here I go!

[Gasp] ugh!

[Grunting] voila!

Wait a minute. I'm stuck. It's like the hole's giving me a

Hug. Aw. I love you, too, hole.

Don, what did you do?

[Grunting] um, played in your obstacle

Course?

But it's not an obstacle course, don. We were making art.

You were?

Um, it looked like you were just putting things down in the

Sand.

We were.

That's how art works. You take interesting things and

Arrange them in a way that sparks your imagination. That's

What mom and dad always say.

Art is made from anything that makes your imagination

Sing.

Rawk! Hey! That rhymes!

I'm really sorry. I guess I wrecked your art.

It's not don's fault. It's mine. I told him it was an

Obstacle course.

That's ok, shiny. We actually really like it this

Way.

You do?

Yeah. That's the great thing about art. It can change and be

Whatever you want it to be.

I think don made it much better.

Me, too! It's a whole new piece of nature art.

Ohh! Nature art? Hey. That's it, nature trackers! That's

What we can do with the stuff in the pile.

We can give it to leroy and lily so they can make nature

Art?

No. We can make our very own nature art.

It's really fun to do.

Nature trackers, I officially declare that we have

A project to do. Let's get back to the nest and work on it

I want to use the pine cones.

I want the crunchy leaves.

But they make circles.

Well, we've all made art pieces, but there's still more

In the pile.

Uh-oh. Won't mom and dad be back soon?

Should we make more art? I bet if we don't use the stuff

In the pile mom will get rid of it.

I know. Instead of making more of our own art pieces,

Let's use the pile to make something together, one giant

Piece of nature art.

A nature trackers art project! Ready? Ok.

Ha ha ha!

I don't know, tiny. There's so much stuff. How can we use

It all?

Hey. You know when we go fishing I go up high so I can

Get a good view of the fish, right?

Right. So if we take turns going up to get a good view, I

Bet we can see how all of this stuff can fit together.

Great idea, buddy. I'll fly up and look!

Rawk! Yes! I know exactly what we should do. Buddy, you and

Don grab that big branch and take it to the middle. Shiny,

We can use the other shiny shells around the edges.

Ok. Buddy and tiny, a little left, two more steps.

Th-th-there! Um, yeah. I think that's good. Now, shiny, maybe

Put the shells around near the top of the vines.

If it has shells, I like it.

Yeah! It looks so great! You have to come up here.

Whoa!

That is some amazing art down there, hon! I love it! I

Wonder who made it.

I bet I know.

Are you the artists who created this masterpiece?

Yes!

What do you think it is?

Well, I think it's, uh--it's--it's--it's beautiful

Is what it is.

Heh. I agree. It's just great art. Is that what you kids were

Nature art, huh? Well, that's excellent. Hey. We have

I can't believe you made something so huge and

Yeah! We took turns coming up here so we could see the

You know, mom told us the thing about nature art is it

Doesn't last forever.

Nope. Wind or rain can make the art disappear.

Well, that's ok because we can always make more art out of

Things we find in nature, right, nature trackers?

You know what, kids? From now on, we'll have a special

Nature art area so you can go in and make new creations

Whenever you feel like it.

Things you find in nature starts with exploring and

Collecting materials!

Here at the beach we can easily find things like rocks...

Shells...

Sticks...

Seaweed...

Even sand! Making sand balls or a rock tower is nature art. Hey.

Cool-looking rock tower!

Creating art from stuff you find in nature is a great way to make

A day at the beach or even in your backyard a whole lot of

Fun!

Ok. Remember, get outside, get into nature and make your

Own nature art!
