- Hello, folks, it's me the conductor.

Today, Mrs. Pteranodon welcomes an old friend, Tilly Pteranodon

for some new adventures.

So come on along with me on the dinosaur train.

All aboard!

- ♪ Dinosaur Train, Dinosaur Train ♪

♪ Once upon a time, there was a mom ♪

♪ Her name was Mrs. Pteranodon ♪

♪ Sitting on her nest, she heard a scratching and said ♪

- Oh boy, my eggs are hatching!

- ♪ One by one, her kids popped free ♪

♪ Baby Pteranodons, one, two, three ♪

- I'll name you Tiny, Shiny, and Don.

♪ But Tiny said ♪ - Wait, there's one more, Mom.

- ♪ The last little baby was a different size ♪

♪ With teeth, a tail, and big green eyes ♪

♪ He didn't look anything like the rest ♪

- What am I doing in a Pteranodon nest?

- ♪ But dear old Mrs. Pteranodon said ♪

- Oh, this is your family, and I'm your mom.

You may be different, but we're all creatures.

All dinosaurs have different features.

Come on, Buddy, we'll take a vacation.

I'll get us a ticket at Pteranodon Station.

We'll travel the world in sunshine and rain.

And meet all the species on the...

- ♪ Dinosaur Train ♪ - ♪ Dinosaur Train ♪

- ♪ Dinosaur Train ♪ - ♪ Dinosaur Train ♪

- ♪ We're gonna ride... ♪ - ♪ Ride, ride, ride, ride ♪

[train whistle toots]

- ♪ The Dinosaur Train ♪

- [roars]

[peaceful music]

♪ ♪

- [squawking]

Thanks for helping me clean the nest, kids.

- It was fun! - Yeah! We like helping.

- Oh, and now we have this neat little pile of dirt to dig in.

[laughing] - Hey!

I just swept that! - But I need to dig a hole.

It's who I am. - Oh, Don.

No holes near the nest. You know that.

[laughter] I'll sweep this back up.

- [roaring] Hi everybody!

all: Hi, Annie!

- Mom, can Annie and I go out to play?

- That's a wonderful idea. - Thanks!

- Shiny, make sure you come back for lunch

so you can say hi to my friend Tilly.

- Who's Tilly?

- She's my mom's friend from when she was a kid.

- Wait, Mom was a kid?

- Of course. It was a long time ago,

but Tilly and I used to play

and go on lots of adventures together.

- Just like me and Annie! - Yeah, like us!

We're going on an adventure together today!

- Sounds fun. Where are you going?

- Dunno. - No idea.

- Well, that sounds like Tilly and me too.

I'm sure you'll figure it out. Have fun!

♪ ♪

- So we could go to the beach. - We've been there before.

- There's the big pond. - Didn't we go there last time?

Hey, I heard about a really fun place to play.

It's whole island of rocks. Want to go?

- Rocks? Um, yeah, where is it?

- That's the even more fun part.

It's in a really interesting cave I visited once.

I peeked into it but never got to go to the island.

- Um, I like islands, but maybe not in a cave?

And is the cave really interesting or really dark?

- Both! Interesting and dark. You can hardly see anything.

Here we are! Let's go in.

- But is anyone else in there?

- Hello! Anyone there!?

[echoing] Anyone there?! Anyone there?!

- [gasps] Who's that?

- [laughs] An echo! It was me!

[echo] Me! Me!

- Quit doing that.

Well, Annie, it is dark and mysterious in here.

- Right, but remember what's after the dark

and mysterious part?

- Nightmares? - No nightmares!

A really fun rock island! See it?

That's our beautiful rock island

just waiting for us.

♪ ♪

- [whimpers]

- We can have our very own hang out!

Shiny and Annie's place.

We can play on the rocks, out in the sun.

- You're right. Let's go.

Okay, I'm in the cave. I'm exploring.

- Yeah, that's great!

[humming] Come on!

♪ ♪

- Annie? Where are you?

- Over here! [echo] Here! Here! Here!

♪ ♪

- Annie?

Annie?! [echo] Annie!? Annie!?

[cr*ck]

Ahh!

♪ ♪

- Whoa!

- Whoa! - Hi there.

That was a good toss. - Thanks!

Who are you? - Hey, kids!

Meet Tilly. - Hi, Tilly!

- [gasps] Tilly! So good to see you.

You haven't aged one bit.

- Well, that's what the time travel train will do for you.

Ahoy, kids. It's nice to see you.

Haven't been here since you were all too tiny to remember.

- [squawks] I'm still Tiny. Well, that's my name at least.

- I'll always remember that. It's great to see you, Tiny.

And let me think: You're Buddy. And you're Don.

- [together] Right. Hi.

- Oh, and here's our sister, Shiny.

- [grunts in frustration]

- Hi there, Shiny. I'm Tilly.

- Hi, nice to meet you.

- Hey, Shiny, where's Annie?

- I'm done playing with Annie. - For the day?

- Yes. And maybe tomorrow, too. And maybe the next day.

Actually, I'm not sure we can be friends anymore.

- [squawking] What?

- Oh, no. What happened?

- It started out fine.

Me and Annie were going on an adventure,

but then we got to this super dark, mysterious cave.

I told Annie it was too dark in there but she kept on going.

La-dee-da-dee-da. La-la-la.

Even when I told her to wait, she just went right on ahead.

I was really scared. - Shiny--

- And I couldn't find her.

- She's right behind you. - I don't know

where she is now.

[squawks] Oh, Annie. There you are.

- Shiny, why did you leave me in the cave?

- You left me there where it was all spooky and echo-y.

- I kind of like that, and I think

it's way less spooky when you're with a friend.

- I don't think it's for me, Annie.

Also, I thought friends always liked the same adventures.

- But we can share new adventures.

I mean, if we don't like all the same ones,

how does that mean we aren't friends?

- Um, I don't know.

- Girls, I think we can work this out.

But first, Annie, meet my friend from childhood,

Tilly. - Hi, Tilly.

- Huh. Hey, do you girls have a secret wing-shake?

Guess what. Your mom and I do. Let's show them.

- Huh! - Huh!

[both squawking] both: Whoo!

- Hey, I bet we could do that.

[all grunting]

- Whoa! [giggling]

Not as easy as it looks.

- Ta-dah!

- [laughing] I guess we had a lot of practice.

- I love seeing you two back together, hon.

You know, when they were little,

Mom and Tilly went everywhere.

- Oh, we did. But that was a long time ago.

- And now Mom takes us to lots and lots of places.

- We go on the dinosaur train,

we go to volcanoes-- into jungles!

- [babbling]

- Underwater! And we meet creatures

from all over the Mesozoic!

- In every time period!

Mom's the best adventure leader.

La-la-loop!

all: laughing

- Oh, I'm very impressed.

You've raised a bunch of adventurers.

- Tilly, do you have any kids? Maybe we can all play together.

- I don't, buddy, but I think I'm the best

and most fun auntie around.

- Ha, I bet the kids would love to hear

some of yours and Tilly's adventure stories.

- [laughing] Where do we even start?

- We used to play lots of games like, uh, tag! You're it!

- Nope. Tag, you're it! - You got me!

But now I've got you! - Aah! Ha ha!

- Cool. - Ooh!

[laughing]

[exciting music]

- [squawking] - La-la-loo!

- [laughing]

- Whoo-hoo-hoo-hoo! - You got me!

- We like to play Pteranodon tag, too!

Just like you and Tilly! - Tell us more!

- Oh, remember the time we found the footprints?

- Oh, wow. Yes! We walked around in circles

for hours! - Footprints?

- Circles? - Hours?

[together] Yes!

And then we realized...

they were our own footprints.

[laughter]

Oh, we sure did a lot of silly and fun things

together in those days.

- Tilly here has always been a big, brave adventurer.

- Yup, just like you kids.

- Well, sometimes I'm not such a big, brave adventurer.

- I understand, Shiny. I felt that way too when I was a kid.

In fact, there was one adventure

I wasn't even brave enough to finish.

- That doesn't sound like you, Mom.

- Could you tell us about it?

- Well, Tilly wanted to go see an island.

- Oh, right. But first we had to go through a lagoon,

and your mom didn't want to go over the water.

- It was dark and covered in low hanging vines.

Who knows what was in that water?

- I know exactly what you mean! - Tell us more.

- Hmm, let me think. It was a sunny day.

♪ ♪

Tilly wanted to fly right over the water,

but I saw something in there.

- [growling]

- [gasps] - Wow.

[dramatic music]

- [roaring]

- So what happened when you got to the island?

- We never did.

- And did it turn out that there was

a creature in the water?

- Huh. I've always wanted to answer those questions.

- Why didn't you keep going?

- You didn't want to go so, as your friend,

I couldn't go without you. - Aww, thanks, Tilly.

- You still kind of had an adventure.

- Yup. I always say,

"There's another adventure around every corner."

- Maybe someday we'll go back

and finish that lagoon adventure.

- [squawking] I have an idea! How about today?

- both: Today?

- Today could be "someday"

so we could go finish your adventure together.

All of us?

- Yeah, we could finally go see that island and it would be

even better to get to go there with all of us.

- I feel the same, but what if the creature is still there?

- Oh, that would be weird.

[imitating creature] Hello, I'm the big creature

who's still here.

all: [laughing]

- And if it's still there after all this time,

then I guess we'll just have to get a closer look.

all: [laughing]

- It sounds like it would be fun.

Shiny, would you want to go?

- If we can all go together. - Right!

We'll all stick to each other this time and do it together.

- Okay, good--great. Let's go. I'm ready.

- But it will be close to dinnertime before--

- Hey, it's my night to make dinner.

I'll take Buddy and Don to the Big Pond to go fishing.

- Yeah! We can have dinner ready when you get home!

- [laughs] That will be our adventure today.

- Thank you, boys.

- Okay, so are we ready now? - [squawking]

- You in, partner? - I'm in, partner.

To the Dinosaur Train and our big adventure!

both: To big adventures!

♪ ♪

- Hi there, I'm Dr. Scott the paleontologist

and I'm at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.

Have you ever wanted to see a real live dinosaur?

Well, you can, because all birds alive today

are actually dinosaurs,

and they came from little feathered Theropods.

[dinosaur roar]

- ♪ Have you heard the word that every single bird

♪ In the world is a dinosaur ♪

- ♪ what? ♪ - ♪ Over , kinds ♪

♪ That should blow your mind ♪

♪ That you're walking with dinosaurs ♪

- ♪ What? ♪ - ♪ The birds you see ♪

♪ Are from the family tree ♪

♪ Of ancient dinosaurs ♪ - ♪ What? ♪

- ♪ So you can truly say that you're living in the age ♪

♪ Of real, live dinosaurs ♪

- ♪ Eagle ♪ - ♪ You're a dinosaur ♪

- ♪ Hummingbird ♪ - ♪ You're a dinosaur ♪

- ♪ Heron ♪ - ♪ Well, you're a dinosaur ♪

- ♪ Robin ♪ - ♪ D-d-dinosaur ♪

- ♪ Duck ♪ - ♪ Well you're a dinosaur ♪

- ♪ Jay ♪ - ♪ Yeah, you're a dinosaur ♪

- ♪ Dr. Scott ♪ - ♪ Not a dinosaur ♪

♪ But he sure knows a lot about dinosaurs ♪

♪ Cardinal, crane, and parakeet ♪

♪ Woodpecker, stork, and wild turkey ♪

♪ Every single bird you meet is a real, live dinosaur ♪

♪ Yeah ♪

[chirping]

[roaring]

- Okay. Remember: Get outside, get into nature

and make your own feathered dinosaur discoveries.

- Hello folks, it's me, the conductor.

Today, Mom and Tilly go back to finish an old adventure.

Hope they finally get to see

the strange creature from their childhood.

So come on along with me on the dinosaur train.

All aboard!

[train whistle]

- Well, greetings, all. So Tiny and Shiny,

I see your mom's taking you back

to where she and Tilly grew up.

What a fun idea!

- And this time, we're going to find that mysterious island.

- And maybe you'll finally meet

the mystery creature from the lagoon.

- You know about our adventure from when we were kids?

- I hear things. - [whispers] I told him.

- True.

That's how I know we're off to the old neighborhood.

All aboard! [train whistling]

- You know, I had an idea that before

you go on today's adventure, Mrs. P, Tilly,

you can help me draw your mystery creature.

- How can they help? - Well, if Mrs. Pteranodon

and Tilly can describe its features,

maybe we'll know what you saw in the water

all that time ago.

- Great idea, Mr. Conductor. What do you think, Mom?

- Hmm, though it was a long time ago,

I think I can still picture it.

- Yeah, me too.

- The creature had a big head. - Mm-hmm.

- But not super big. - Oh, go on.

What about the face?

- Oh, his teeth were pointy and sharp.

- I see.

- Actually, they were kind of round.

- Oh.

- He had a fierce look in his eyes.

- Hmm... - I remember the eyes

looked big but nice.

- Ah. Excellent recall, Tilly and Mrs. P.

Now let's see what we have. Voilà.

Does this look familiar? together: Yes!

[light trumpeting]

- Wait, these are two different pictures.

How can they both be right?

- Well, this one is from what your mom remembered,

and this one is what Tilly recalls--

two different memories.

- So how are we going to figure out what the creature was?

- Maybe we'll see it again this time and get a closer look.

- [nervous laughter] Or maybe we won't see it.

- [laughing] You sound just like us when we were your age.

- [laughing] They sure do. Wow, I feel like a kid again.

I'm so excited for our adventure.

- Me too...I think.

- Let's take a look at pictures of creatures

who could be living in your childhood lagoon.

- Nope. - No.

together: Yes! - That was definitely it.

- Oh, well in that case, you're in luck.

That's a marine reptile called Globidens,

which means "round teeth."

- Round teeth! That sounds friendly.

What does it eat?

- Globidens have round teeth to eat creatures with hard shells

like clams and ammonites.

- So...not dinosaurs?

- Or Pterosaurs?

- Oh, definitely not. - Whoo-hoo!

- In that case, I look forward to meeting this Globidens.

[chiming] - Hopefully you will soon,

because next stop, Pteranodon Seaside Station,

on the Western Interior Sea!

Seaside Station, next stop!

[brakes screeching]

together: Whoa!

- Here we are kids. Home.

It makes me so happy to be here.

- Wow. So this is where you lived

when you were a kid like us?

- This is nothing like Pteranodon Terrace.

- But it looks like it will be fun to explore.

- Oh, it is. Come on, kids.

We'll show you around. If we remember the way.

- I think I recognize this place.

Wait, are those the rocks we used to climb on?

- Ah, the same.

- Oh! Can we try climbing on them?

- Why do the rocks look so much smaller now?

- Probably because we're so much bigger now.

- That's true, isn't it? Pterosaurs change.

- We sure do.

Let's see if we can still climb.

- Race ya! [gasps] Our favorite big rock.

all: Yeah!

- Our favorite tree!

- Our favorite secret place to fly!

- Whoo-hoo-hoo-hoo! - [laughing]

- Mom and Tilly are playing!

- It's like they're kids again. - We were kids once, you know.

- Yeah, long ago in the early Cretaceous!

[laughter]

- Whee!

[all sighing, giggling]

♪ ♪

- Well, there's only one thing we still haven't seen.

Who's ready to finish an old adventure?

together: Me! - Good!

It's going to be even more fun this time

because we're all here together.

- [gulping] [determined huff]

♪ ♪

- You don't have to go, Shiny. I mean, only if you want to.

- Thanks, Annie, but I'm in.

No matter what, I'm not going to turn back.

- Yeah! You and me together.

- Plus, we have to set a good example for mom and Tilly.

[both laughing]

♪ ♪

- There's the lagoon.

[gasps] It's just like I remember.

- And there's more. Look through those vines.

What do you see?

[drum roll]

- Is that the island? - Can we go see it, please?

- That's the plan for our adventure.

Okay, girls. Follow me.

♪ ♪

Those vines were too low for us to fly under.

- So no way under, no way over. No way around.

- We'll just have to go through.

Ready kids? - Ready.

- This time, nothing's going to stop us.

Not vines, not water.

- Or a mysterious lagoon creature popping up anywhere.

- Annie...

- I was just kidding! Honest!

- [gulp] - You know what?

I've always wanted to build a raft here since I was little.

- Me too! Good idea. Can we right now?

- Sure!

Shiny, help me turn this into a raft.

We can float across the lagoon.

We'll catch up with you soon!

- Right-o! We'll keep a look out for our lagoon creature.

Ahoy!

- Thanks for taking me in the raft, Mom.

I was a little scared of what's under the water.

- Me too, but it's okay to be scared.

Even if you're a grown up. - It is?

But you're never scared. You're always brave.

I mean, you don't ever look scared.

- Really? Because I still do get scared sometimes.

See, sweetie, I was a kid too once,

and I got very scared at times.

But each time, I learned to be a little more brave,

and so can you. - I can?

- Even now, there are times I get scared.

So what I do is hum to myself.

[hums tune]

I tell myself I'm going to hum louder than the scary feeling.

[humming]

[both humming]

[both chuckling]

- Boy, it's not so scary out here with you.

I guess it's easier being scared together.

- We've been pretty brave together, too.

Look how far we've come.

- Wow! The island! We made it!

- [laughing] - Yeah!

- Hey! - Ahoy!

Ready to finish our adventure? - Yeah!

- What was I ever scared of? together: The lagoon creature.

- Remember?

- Oh, it's been such a long time.

Maybe the lagoon creature isn't even here anymore.

- Or it is here and has its own kids

just like I'm here with mine.

- [squawks] That would be amazing!

[throaty breath] - Shh.

Did anyone else hear that?

- It was probably just the wind.

- Sometimes the wind blows the water into little waves.

Maybe that's what you saw a long time ago, Mom.

- Could have even been just a shadow.

- Or some silly rock sticking out of the water.

[laughter]

- I wouldn't be scared of a rock.

- My guess is, there's no lagoon creature after all.

- Good. Mystery solved. Let's go home.

- Hello again. together: Huh?

- I remember you two.

- [screams] It's the lagoon creature.

[heavy breathing]

- Wait! Shiny, wait!

- Everyone wait. Don't go! I want to meet you this time.

- I can't believe you're real.

- Of course I'm real. I wasn't sure you were real.

I kept telling friends about the flying creatures

over the lagoon from long ago.

- That flying creature was me. Ahoy!

- And me! - We're Pteranodons.

I'm Tilly, that's Mrs. Pteranodon,

and her daughters Shiny and Tiny.

- And I'm Annie Tyrannosaurus.

- I'm Goldie. I'm a Globidens.

- Goldie, what does "globidens" mean?

- "Globidens" means "globe teeth",

'cause my teeth are round. You want to see?

Ahhh.

- They are round. - The conductor was right.

As usual.

- Yep. My teeth are good for eating

the shellfish I find in the water.

- Ohhh, that is great news.

I'm glad I'm not a shellfish.

- Goldie, have you ever seen a Pteranodon up close?

Check out our feet, our hands, and of course--

our amazing leathery wings.

- [squawks] Don't forget our beaks.

- Oh, wow. Now, those are extraordinary features.

And Annie, I love your teeth and tail.

[laughter]

Girl power!

Okay, visitors. Ready to see my island?

together: Yeah!

- Okay, all together. Onto the island we go.

One. Two. Three.

- Wow.

Why does it look so much smaller now?

- Probably because you're so much bigger now.

[comical note]

- Whoo-hoo! Yay! Mom and Tilly, you did it!

And we all helped finish your adventure.

And made a new friend.

- Yeah, and maybe next time you visit you can meet my kids.

- What a great idea, Goldie. We'd love to come back.

- See, Mom? Goldie might have looked scary at first,

but I told you all along, there's nothing to worry about.

- I guess you never know where an adventure can take you.

- Shiny, I'm glad we're friends again.

- Yeah, Annie. Just like Mom and Tilly,

we'll always be friends.

- Are you sure you want to do this?

- [gulp]

Okay. I want to be brave.

We go in together. One. Two. Three.

Go!

- Shiny? It's really dark in here.

What do you do when you're scared?

- I do what Mom does-- hum.

[humming]

[both humming]

[both laughing]

♪ ♪

- Hi there, I'm Dr. Scott, the paleontologist

and I'm here in the Dinosaur Hall

at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County.

Perhaps the most fantastic dinosaurs of all were the giant

long-necked sauropods-- animals like Mamenchisaurus.

They're all herbivores,

and they grew to be the biggest size

of any land living animals that ever existed.

Mamenchisaurus grew maybe up to a hundred feet long.

And half of that length was neck.

That means the neck of a Mamenchisaurus

was as long as the whole body of Tyrannosaurus rex.

Now paleontologists are still trying to figure out

the wonders around sauropods.

How did they get so big? Well, part of the answer

is that their neck bones

and the bones of the back were hollow.

They were filled with air instead of being solid bone.

♪ ♪

But the honest answer is, we're still trying to

figure out the mysteries of these creatures.

How did they possibly eat enough

to survive and get so big?

We're still finding the answers.

So the next time you're at the zoo and looking at a giraffe,

look up at that long neck and be amazed.

They are incredible creatures.

But remember, giraffes are nothing in size

compared to the giant sauropods.

[guitar]
