01x09 - Earth to Blorb: Water!

Post by bunniefuu »

Welcome to Plum Landing.

Hello, Blorbians.

It's me, Plum.

Or as you knew me back on Blorb

[beeping and sputtering]

I think I like "Plum" better.

Anyway, today's Plum post is all about water.

Now, water isn't familiar to most Blorbians,

but on Earth, it's critical.

Why?

Because earthlings drink it!

They can't live without it.

In fact, nothing on earth can live without water.

But here's the interesting part: earthlings can't make water.

They have to use the water that's here,

and the water that's here is very old.

In fact, the water an earthling drinks

is the same water the dinosaurs drank million years ago.

Ew.

But also interesting.

So you might be asking, "How does that work, exactly?"

Here's how it works, exactly.

The sun heats up water from ponds, from lakes,

from rivers and the ocean and turns it into vapor.

The vapor goes up into the air.

See?

There it goes, way, way up.

But the higher it goes, the colder it gets,

so eventually, the vapor turns back into liquid,

collects around dust, and forms a cloud.

When clouds get too heavy,

the water falls back down to earth.

If it's a warm day, it comes down as rain.

If it's a cold day, then you might see snow or sleet.

Some of the water soaks into the ground and becomes groundwater.

That's the water that plants and animals

and about half of all humans drink.

But most of the rain/snow/sleet lands in a body of water,

so the process repeats over and over and over

and over and over.

So this glass I showed you, it's just amazing to think

who else might have drunk this water.

Who else?

Ancient kings!

And queens!

Cavemen!

Dinosaurs!

Fish from the Paleozoic period!

And now, an alien.

[slurping]

Ah, delicious!

Delicious and very precious.

So that's all for now from wet and wild Planet Earth.
