02x08 - Mountain Face-Off

Post by bunniefuu »

Welcome to Plum Landing.

"Mountain Face-Off."

We're on a mission for Plum.

We're going to do a video chat

with our friends Nathaniel and Sydney.

Today we are going to do a video chat

with Bianca, Cornell and Harry.

Hi!

Hello. I am talking.

Can you hear me?

[laughing]

They hiked a mountain in Colorado.

We hiked a mountain in Massachusetts.

We both collected data for Plum.

Both of our mountains were like Mount X

that Plum and the kids explored.

Our hike started at , feet.

And it ended at , feet.

How about you guys?

, feet.

What did you end at?

, feet.

Your hike started way higher than ours did.

Oh, so the start of our hike was about , feet higher

than at the top of the mountain you hiked.

Cool!

I think it's because Colorado is at a much higher elevation

than Massachusetts.

Elevation is the height above sea level.

- Mm-hmm. - What was the temperature?

. degrees.

Ours was degrees.

It was a lot colder on your mountain.

Did you guys see anything interesting on your hike?

Yes, we saw toads.

- Cool! - You know what?

We met an elk.

A what?

- Elk. - What's an elk?

It's kind of like a moose and kind of like a reindeer.

It's really cool.

The elk was wearing a radio collar.

Why was it wearing a radio collar?

Probably because the people there would want to keep track

of all the elk.

Did you notice any difference in the trees

in the bottom of the mountain to the top of the mountain?

Yeah.

Well, on the top, trees got smaller.

Same with us.

Maybe that's the thing with mountains.

Like at the bottom of the mountain,

the trees are really tall

and then at the higher part, the trees are smaller.

Did you guys see any water on your hike?

We saw water at the bottom of the mountain

and we saw some puddles on the way up.

We had two lakes, Dream Lake and Nymph Lake.

We also saw a lake.

It was called Echo Lake.

Echo Lake had a beaver lodge.

Cool. I like beavers.

On both of our hikes, we saw that the trees got smaller

as we went higher, and it got colder too.

Yeah, that's right.

All this stuff is really interesting.
