Okay, skipping rope,

I'm going to learn how to skip with you today.

So far, so good! Now for the tricky part.

Piffle! My toes are all tangled!

I'll never learn how to skip!

How is your skipping coming along, Franny?

I'm so flusterated, Grandpa!

Everyone at the playground can skip but me!

Everyone?

Well, almost everyone!

Maybe your Grandpa can show you how it's done.

I used to be a real snazzy skipper!

[CHUCKLE]

Hoh! [LAUGHS]

I think I need to practice with a longer skipping rope!

Keep at it, Franny!

You'll get the hang of it sooner or later.

I want to get the hang of it SOONER!

[BELL RINGS]

A customer!

Hmmm...

And what can we do for you?

The blades of my skates are loose on their boots.

Don't worry!

They won't be wobbly when I tighten the loose screws.

Great!

I can't wait to get back up on my skates.

You'll be whizzing down the ice by Wednesday.

Could you slide these into the fix-it-box, Franny?

Sure, Grandpa!

[GIGGLING]

Where will my feet take me today?

[TWINKLES]

Wheee!

Brrrrr, it's freezing out!

Good thing I'm wearing a cozy scarf.

Huh? Oopsie!

Sor-ry!

I'm on skating rink!

A really long one!

I can skate and skate and skate

and I don't even have to turn around!

Whew! I can't even see where the ice ends!

[GIGGLE]

What a cute little doggy!

She must want me to go somewhere.

Okay, okay! I'm coming!

Coco! I told you not to go out on the ice!

You might slip and fall!

Hi, I'm Franny!

It's cold out, isn't it?

It sure is. Hi! I'm Marie.

Would you like some hot chocolate?

It'll warm you up.

Yes, please!

Mmmm.

Hot chocolate is frantastic on a chilly day!

Have a donut!

Thanks! It smells like cinnamon!

It's yummy!

You've got a sugar moustache!

Uh-oh! I better lick it off!

[SLURP / GIGGLE]

This is the longest skating rink I've ever seen!

It's really a canal.

In the summertime, boats sail up and down the water.

But in the winter, when the water freezes

and if ice is thick enough,

the canal turns into a big Skateway.

Do you want to go skating with me?

No thanks.

But it's fun just watching.

Hmmm...Maybe Marie doesn't have any skates.

You can borrow these skates, Marie!

No, that's okay. Thanks anyway.

[SIGH]

Zoom! That skater sure is speedy!

Wow!

She looks like a bird flying on the ice!

I want to try that!

Don't go, Franny!

Everyone else is skating.

I don't have anyone to play with except Coco.

Oh. Then I'll stay here with you.

I know him!

He skated by me so fast,

he surprised me and I almost fell!

That's Jacques. He's my brother.

[GIGGLING]

Come on, Marie! Get skating!

I didn't spend all that time helping you lace up your skates for nothing!

"Your skates?"

[RUFF RUFF!]

No, Coco!

Hey, Marie, you're wearing skates!

Why don't you want to go skating?

I don't know how.

I wish I could, but every time I try, I fall down --

kerplunk!

But everybody falls down sometimes.

Even really good hockey players and ice dancers!

Try it, Marie! It's frantabulously

fun once you get the hang of it!

See?

Just put your arms out and keep your head up.

I have trouble just staying up.

Hmmm...I have an idea!

Hmmm...

Hold onto the scarf and skate to me.

Okay. Here goes.

[GIGGLES]

That's it.

I did it! I stayed up!

Snazzy skating, Marie!

Now turn around and skate back!

This is fun! [LAUGHS]

Uh-oh!

[GASP]

Look out!

Whoaaaa! Oof!

[GIGGLES] Whoopsie-daisy!

Oh!

Are you okay, Marie?

I'm fine. I just can't stay up.

I keep falling down. I want to go home!

But I'm not ready to go home yet!

You can wait on the bench with Coco.

[PANTING]

Stay Coco!

Unh!

[BARKS]

No, Coco!

Oh!

Uh-oh!

Coco! Get out of the way!

I'm coming, Coco!

You're safe now, Coco!

You did it! You did it!

You were skating!

I WAS skating, wasn't I?!

All you needed was a little practice!

And it didn't even hurt when I fell!

Hey, whiz kid!

Now that you can skate, you'll be playing hockey like me soon!

I better practice more first.

Come on, Franny! Will you skate with me?

I'd like to but I have to get back home.

My Grandpa will be wondering where I am.

I'll skate with you!

Bye Franny! Thanks!

Bye!

I better get back to grandpa.

[TWINKLES]

That was skateriffic!

Ooh! A hockey puck!

Another treasure for my shoe box!

Grandpa! I'm ready to try skipping again.

Are you sure?

Sure I'm sure, Grandpa.

Marie didn't want to fall down, but Coco chased Jacques' puck

and she had to save her.

Marie? Coco?

The canal was really long, so she got

lots of practice and she learned how to skate!

I just need more practice skipping.

That's my Franny! Here's your skipping rope.

[GROAN]

[SIGH]

Jumblety jump-ropes!

Maybe you should take a break.

Not yet, Grandpa.

[GROAN]

I did it! I did it!

You sure did!

Tomorrow, I'm going to skip TWICE in a row!

After all that exercise,

maybe you could use a sweet treat.

How about some hot chocolate?

Hot chocolate, twice in one day? Yummy!
