[upbeat music]

ABC MouseHey, everybody! Let's G-O, go!

Woman[singing] With ABC, --, and Do-Re-Mi

There's endless people and places to see

From the classroom, they can search and explore

With every adventure, you learn more

They visit countries near and far

They love to learn wherever they are

They see the world in a brand-new way

They make great new friends every day

ABC, --, and Do-Re-Mi

Come along and you will see

The more they travel, the more you know

Get ready, let's G-O, go

[curious music]

Do-Re-Mi MouseIs the surprise ready?

ABC MouseNot yet. Cover your eyes!

Okay, now you can look!

-- Mouse[gasps] You made a castle!

ABC MouseYep. I've always wanted to live in one.

Do-Re-Mi MouseReally? They seem cold and lonely to me.

-- MouseActually, castles were busy places.

ABC MouseYeah, lots of people lived and worked in 'em.

-- MouseAnd during holidays or visits from special guests,

there were big celebrations with food...

and musicians...

ABC Mouse[whistling]

-- MouseAnd dancers...

and poetry.

ABC MouseRoses are red, violets are blue.

I made up this poem just for you.

[-- Mouse and Do-Re-Mi Mouse giggle]

Do-Re-Mi Mouse: You've convinced me, --.

Let's visit a real castle.

ABC MouseGreat idea!

Which one should we visit?

AllLet's search it!

ABC MouseWhoa! -- MouseThat one's in Germany.

Hohenzollern Castle.

Do-Re-Mi MouseIt looks like something out of a fairy tale.

-- MouseOoh, the Himeji Castle is in Japan.

ABC MouseWhat about that one? Stirling Castle.

Do-Re-Mi MouseWhere is it?

-- MouseStirling Castle is on the island of Great Britain

in a country called...

Do-Re-Mi MouseScotland! There it is!

-- MouseIt says some parts of the castle

look just like it did years ago!

Do-Re-Mi MousePerfect.

ABC MouseLet's G-O, go!

[adventurous music]

Look! A sign for the entrance.

-- MouseReady, everyone?

ABC Mouse and Do-Re-Mi MouseReady!

[upbeat music]

Do-Re-Mi MouseDo-re-mi-fa-so-la-ti...

MiceWhoa!

Do-Re-Mi MouseThis isn't cold at all.

Mr. ReidHalt! Who goes there?

ABC MouseHello, sir.

I'm ABC,

and this is -- and Do-Re-Mi.

Mr. ReidI'm Duncan Reid, castle steward.

Do-Re-Mi MouseExcuse me, but what's a steward?

Mr. ReidI'm in charge of the household and all of its servants.

Many would say that I'm the most important member of the lord's staff.

Do-Re-Mi MouseWhat's a lord?

Mr. ReidThe lord is the person who owns the castle and the land that it's on."],…}

Now, where'd you come from?

ABC MouseYour phone, sir.

Mr. ReidUh, what's a phone?

All[giggling]

Mr. ReidHeh, I'll deal with this later.

ABC MouseI don't think he's really the castle steward.

-- MouseYeah. I'm sure he's only pretending.

[giggles] Isn't it fun?

Mr. ReidSo, you're looking for a job, aye?

Do-Re-Mi MouseA job?

Mr. ReidWell, it's the best way to learn.

Castles don't run themselves, you know.

It takes about people to run a large castle.

So speak up when you hear something that interests you.

I need three cooks, a bard, one piper,

some gentlemen servants,

a lady in waiting--maybe two--

a carpenter, four bakers, a doctor,

and as many gardeners as I can find.

ABC MouseIs there more?

Mr. ReidA couple of stable lads and some men-at-arms.

But I'm most in need of cooks and bakers.

Do-Re-Mi MouseI really like to bake.

Mr. ReidAh, then a baker you shall be. You're hired.

Come, I'll show you to the kitchen.

[adventurous music]

Do-Re-Mi Mouse[singsongy] I just got a job in a castle.

Mr. ReidBakers get up before the sun to start baking,

which shouldn't be a problem because you'll be sleeping on the floor.

Only the lord and his family sleep in beds.

Do-Re-Mi MouseSorry to interrupt, Mr. Reid,

but what's that over the fireplace?

Mr. ReidThat's a coat of arms.

Long ago, they were used to identify soldiers on the b*ttlefield.

Over time, they became a way of identifying

important families and their achievements.

Do-Re-Mi MouseOh, so it kind of tells the story of the family it belongs to."],…}

Mr. ReidMm. I like that.

You're an artist, aren't you?

Do-Re-Mi MouseYes!

Mr. ReidPerhaps you'd be better suited as a portrait painter.

Do-Re-Mi MouseOoh, I'd like that!

Mr. ReidLook above you.

Those are called the Stirling Heads.

They represent some of the greatest people in Scottish history,

and they don't paint themselves.

Do-Re-Mi MouseYippee!

I have an even better job!

Mr. ReidWhat about you, --?

-- MouseHmm.

Well, you said you needed a doctor, right?

Mr. ReidIndeed.

-- MouseSay "ah"!

KnightAh!

-- MouseYep, I'll be a doctor.

Mr. ReidDoctor it is.

And you, young lad?

ABC MouseI've always wanted to make things out of iron and steel,

so can I be a blacksmith?

Mr. ReidAh, and a fine blacksmith you'll make.

ABC Mouse[grunting]

On second thought,

maybe I should try something else.

Mr. ReidHow about a constable?

Do-Re-Mi MouseWhat does a constable do?

Mr. ReidA constable is in charge of the soldiers,

the guards, and the castle weapons.

ABC MouseABC Mouse, reporting for duty, sir.

Mr. ReidCome-- it's important that you see

the wall before you make your final decision.

Castles are designed to keep the people inside of them safe.

As the next constable of Stirling Castle,

can you tell me a few ways to do that?

ABC MouseWell...

I can see that Stirling Castle

is built in a high place,

so it would be hard to att*ck.

Mr. ReidThat's right.

Some castles are built next to rivers or lochs,

which also provide protection.

ABC MouseWhat's a loch? Mr. ReidOh.

It's what we call lakes here in Scotland.

MiceOh!

ABC MouseWait a minute. Yeah!

Castles also have drawbridges.

They allowed guests of the castle in

and kept enemies of the castle out.

The towers along the wall were used by soldiers to keep watch.

Soldiers were always ready to fire arrows at their enemies

from these small windows called arrow slits.

[triumphant music]

Mr. ReidBrilliant!

You are gonna make a fine constable.

ABC MouseWhy, thank you, sir.

Do-Re-Mi MouseIf you need help keeping watch on the wall,

I'd be happy to paint up here.

The view is spectacular.

Mr. ReidAye, it is.

You can see all the way from the Lowlands to the Highlands.

ABC MouseHighlands and Lowlands?

Mr. ReidThe Highlands is the part of Scotland

with tall mountains and deep lochs.

-- MouseThe Lowlands look a lot flatter.

Mr. ReidAye, not only are Scotland's biggest cities in the Lowlands--

you'll also find thick forest, farmlands,

and most of the country's castles.

[distant grunting]

ABC MouseHuh? What the-- where's that coming from?

[man grunts]

ABC MouseUh, why are those men throwing telephone poles?

Mr. ReidOh, those aren't telephone poles.

They're called cabers.

It's part of a competition that's been around for almost a thousand years.

ABC MouseA thousand years?

I gotta see that.

Race ya!

[all laughing]

Mr. ReidThe caber toss is one of the events

in a competition called the Highland games.

When the games first began,

they were used to choose men who would make the best soldiers.

[all cheering]

Do-Re-Mi MouseYou can do it, ABC!

Massive Scottish Man #Allow me, laddie.

ABC MouseThanks!

[grunting]

[grunts]

[all cheering]

Do-Re-Mi MouseOoh, --, did you notice?

Whatever they're wearing is fabulous.

I want one.

-- MouseI think they're called kilts.

Mr. ReidAye.

In the past, each family had its own pattern

that all the men in the family had on their kilts.

The kilt behind you belongs to the Buchanan family.

BothGood-bye, Mr. Buchanan!

Mr. ReidAnd this red kilt here belongs to the Fraser family.

-- MouseMr. Reid, we've had such a great time visiting Stirling Castle.

I wish we didn't have to go.

Mr. ReidYou're leaving? But you're my painter,

my constable, and my doctor.

Mice[giggling]

Mr. Reid[sighs] It's been great having you here,

but you cannot go without a proper send-off.

[festive music]

Well done. Well done!

Do-Re-Mi MouseOh, what an amazing musical instrument.

Mr. ReidIt's my favorite.

It's believed that bagpipes have been used

here in Scotland for almost , years.

ABC Mouse, years? -- MouseOh, my goodness!

Mr. ReidI hate long good-byes, so I'll make this fast.

This is Angus, the castle's finest Highland steer.

He'll take you home.

Farewell, my friends.

ABC MouseUh, Mr. Reid?

Do-Re-Mi MouseAngus is very handsome...

-- MouseBut we might need to get home

a little faster than on a Highland steer.

[Angus moos]

Mr. ReidHmm.

Perhaps this thingymabob can help.

ABC MouseSo long, Mr. Reid.

Thank you for everything.

Ready?

Fire!

Try again!

-- MouseMaybe a little closer.

Do-Re-Mi MouseI finished our coat of arms.

Want to see it?

ABC MouseThat's amazing, Do-Re-Mi.

I love it!

Do-Re-Mi MouseWait, is that a marshmallow?

ABC MouseWe're seeing if our castle is safe if we're att*cked.

Do-Re-Mi MouseNow, if we could just find an enemy

that fires graham crackers and chocolate, we could make s'mores!

[all laughing]

[upbeat music]

[light music]

[mouse squeaks]
