02x26 - Forget Me Not

Post by bunniefuu »

This is me, eliza thornberry.

Part of your average family.

I got a dad, a mom, and a sister.

There is donnie-- we found him.

And darwin? He found us.

(Jabbering )

Oh, yeah, about our house-- it moves.

'Cause we travel all over the world.

You see, my dad hosts this nature show

And my mom sh**t it.

Okay, so we're not that average.

(Panting )

And between you and me

Something amazing happened...

And now I can talk to animals.

It's really cool

But totally secret.

And you know what?

Life's never been the same.

(Film projector running... )

(Clicking... )

(Chuckles )

Why, hello, percy.

Here I am with my college chums

Roughing it on the plains of kenya.

Look what I found for our dinner-- kippers.

I have no idea what they are

But my grandfather ate them every day of his life.

Worth a try, eh, jomo?

Sure, nigel.

That would be... Swell.

Jomo... (Chuckles )

Nobody says "swell" anymore.

We don't want to watch this with our children someday

And look like silly-billies, now do we?

(Both laughing )

Oh...

Oh...

(Girls laughing )

Oh... Girls, how many times

Have you seen this old movie?

It's still funny, mom.

Yeah, I don't know what's worse--

Dad's hair or his goofy smiling at the camera.

Don't blame either one on me.

That was before I met you father.

Shall I run it back? (Chuckles )

No, let's get to the good part.

(g*nshots in film )

(Both gasp )

(g*nshots )

Poachers!

But where?

(Both gasp )

(Elephants trumpeting... )

Stop, you scoundrels!

Percy, keep filming!

(Trumpeting )

Faster, jomo!

(Men screaming )

I'm going to get you, thornberry!

(Gasps )

Hello... Aren't you lovely?

Do you know I've never seen one of you up close, outside the circus.

(Blows air )

(Laughing )

Oh, I wish I had a peanut to feed you.

I really must get a jacket with pockets.

(Trumpets )

(Sniffling, blows nose loudly )

Dad, no offense, but you sound like that elephant honking.

Her name is rebecca

And she wasn't honking, she was saying thank you.

I mean, don't you think that's what she was saying?

Dad saved her life.

Jomo: he did indeed.

And rebecca, as you father called her

Is matriarch of her herd now.

Come to think of it, nigel, why did you name her rebecca?

Well, that was my grandmother's name.

Remember, I was just a young schoolboy

Homesick for my granny's gingersnaps.

Yeah, and if it wasn't for rebecca

You wouldn't be a naturalist and we wouldn't be here.

I can't wait to meet her.

Oh, sure, squirt, it's only been like years.

That's not the problem, pumpkin.

According to jomo, rebecca's is the last herd still outside the preserve.

I am constantly torn between wanting to protect the elephants and wanting them to be free.

We feel the same way.

That's why I suggested to the foundation that we film rebecca's herd.

We'll start tracking her first thing tomorrow.

I wonder if she'll remember me.

Oh, I know they say elephants never forget, but I don't dare hope.

She'll remember you, dad.

And if she doesn't, well, she might just need a little reminding.

(Donnie slurping... )

Sure you don't want to come with us?

There's room for one more.

Me and darwin are going to look for rebecca on our own.

Go ahead, tell me it takes days of skilled tracking

And looking at footprints and examining elephant dung and...

Eww, glad I'm staying home.

Oh, that reminds me.

It's your turn to watch donnie.

No problemo, mom.

Maybe I'll give him an english lesson.

(Slurps, burps )

Wonderful.

Well, good luck, girls.

Yes, good luck, eliza.

If you see a large, older elephant

With a notch in her ear, that's rebecca.

Just be careful out there.

(Both say good-byes )

See you later.

Bye, have a good time.

Well, I'm out of here.

(Whooping )

Oh...

This is a cup.

Can you say cup?

Ooh...

Okay, it's a hat.

Can you say hat?

(Sighs )

(Gulping )

Don't drink all the water.

What are you, a rhino?

Eyes on the side of your head?

I just know you.

So, are we going to search all day in the hot sun

Looking for this rebecca?

Yes.

I knew it.

But how will we find her?

Darwin, she's an elephant, not a mouse.

Someone must have seen her around here.

Excuse me, has anyone seen...

Um, hello?

You're hogging the canteen.

That's it!

Why didn't I think of that? Let's go!

I'm still thirsty.

Excuse me?

(Trumpets )

Oh, I didn't mean to scare you.

I'm eliza and this is darwin.

I'm shango. Don't tell anyone

About the water coming out of my trunk.

Of course not. When darwin drinks chocolate milk fast

It comes out of his nose.

Hey!

Really? That's neat.

Oh, it is? I'll show you.

Later, dar.

Shango, I'm looking for an older elephant.

The head of the herd.

She's got a notch in one ear...

That's my grandmother.

No way. Can you take us to her?

I'm not supposed to visit her anymore.

I live with the other males.

Please, shango, rebecca-- your grandmother, I mean--

Is famous in my family.

I got to see her.

(Elephant trumpets )

Do you see her, shango?

No.

(Sniffing )

A male! I smell a male.

Did you invite a male?

Me? Ha! Who needs them?

(Sniffing )

And some other animal I don't recognize.

It's zita's son.

Aw, did you miss your mommy?

Shango, what are you doing

Bringing this little girl in here?

I asked him if I could meet his grandmother.

What for?

Zita: shango!

Mom!

I didn't expect you to visit so soon.

What are you doing here?

The older males are always starting fights with me.

They're just playing with you.

That's how you learn.

Couldn't grandmother come visit?

They wouldn't dare pick on me in front of her.

You've got to learn to stand up for yourself.

And you will.

And who is your friend?

That's what I wanted to know.

She wants to meet grandmother. Can I take her?

I don't know, shango.

Your grandmother is very tired today.

Oh, come on, mom... Please?

(Chuckles )

Please?

I guess it would be all right.

But just a short visit.

(Gasps )

Here, if you're going, take her these.

She needs to eat more.

Look, darwin!

Darwin: that's the one who's tired and needs to eat more?

(Trumpets )

Wow!

Rebecca?

What did you call me?

Oh, it's what my family calls you.

See, I've watched this movie of you since I was little.

Child, I have no idea what on earth you're talking about.

First of all, you are still little to an elephant.

Now, what's a movie?

It's pictures that move.

My dad met you years ago.

His name is nigel thornberry, and he saved you from poachers.

Men who threw a rope around you and chased you in a car.

That man saved my life.

He called me a name.

What was it?

Rebecca.

Yes, rebecca!

And you are his offspring.

Yep, oh, rebecca, I knew you'd remember him.

An elephant never forgets.

Especially not a man as kind as your father.

Though he did try to feed me some smelly little fish.

Kippers-- he tries to feed them to all of us.

What's your name, child?

Eliza.

Well, eliza

You have brightened my day.

How about a swim?

Sure.

Wait, you swim?

Dear child, I do everything.

(Eliza giggling )

I feel like queen of the savanna!

Dear, I believe that's my title.

(Sighs )

Let's rest.

Are you okay, rebecca?

(Low-pitched calling in distance )

What's that sound?

Some of my herd are talking far away.

Most humans can't even hear it.

It's like a low frequency, right?

Oh, I've got to try it some time.

I'm not surprised that my old friend's offspring is so clever.

Hmm, well, in a way I owe it all to you.

If my dad hadn't met you

He might have never become a naturalist

And I never would have...

(Sighs deeply )

That's nice, dear.

If you don't mind, I am going to take a little nap.

We'll visit your father later.

How's that sound?

Smashing! Mmm...

Smashing!

A rather large elephant just came through this way.

Jomo: wouldn't it be something

If it was rebecca?

(Gasps )

She's stuck!

Darwin, that's shango's mom!

And there's your mom.

Mom, dad, we have to help her!

(Elephants trumpeting )

Sounds like her family is coming to rescue her.

Elephants have an uncanny way of helping each other out in an emergency.

I'll drive, you two push.

(Grunting... )

(Rumbling and trumpeting... )

(Gasps )

Oh, nigel, I don't think they can pull her out.

If we cannot devise a way to rescue this elephant, she'll die of starvation.

(Low-pitched calling... )

What is it, zita?

What can I do?

Please go get my mother.

It's very important I see her before...

Before what?

I just have to see her.

Don't worry, I know where she is.

The jeep could pull her out, but it's stuck.

What about the commvee?

I'll get it! I'll go back to camp

And debbie can drive it here.

I'm the fastest.

You certainly are.

Now, you'll be needing a map...

Amazing child.

Shango! I'm so glad you're here.

Can you take us back to camp?

I'll explain on the way.

(Panting )

Hey, me too.

Oh!

Pencil, can you say pencil?

(Jabbering... )

Okay-- drum.

Can you say drum?

Uh-oh.

Hey, that's good, donnie.

Where did you learn to say uh-oh?

(Elephant trumpets )

(Gasps ) uh-oh.

(Trumpeting )

(Screams )

Yow!

Debbie, there's an emergency!

Yeah, my sister's gone crazy!

Do you know you're riding an elephant?

An elephant's in trouble!

Mom and dad want you

To bring the commvee to the mud hole.

They want me to drive the commvee?

Say no more.

Shango, lead my sister to the mud hole.

You go with shango.

Okay, where is this mud hole and how fast should I go?

Really fast and follow that elephant!

No problem.

Follow what?

Eliza!

Hey, at least I'm driving.

(Tires squealing )

(Panting... )

Oh, where is she?

Rebecca?!

Rebecca, please hear this.

(Low-pitched call... )

(Distant calling )

She heard me!

(Growling... )

I wasn't talking to you.

Rebecca!

(Growling )

(Trumpeting )

Oh, thank you, you saved my life.

Lucky I heard you calling.

Not bad for your first try.

Thanks, but the rhino wasn't what I was calling about.

It's zita-- she's stuck in the mud.

My parents are helping her

But she wants to see you.

You still look kind of tired.

I can sleep all I want later.

Let's go!

Is that dad's elephant?

No, I'm afraid we still haven't located rebecca, but...

My friend, we have.

(Trumpeting... )

Nigel: jomo, it's her!

And she hasn't changed a bit!

Oh, look at her.

So majestic.

(Laughing )

Marianne, she remembers me!

You are quite memorable, dear.

Nigel, I think we should hurry.

(Trumpets )

This unfortunate elephant is probably

A descendant of yours, isn't she, old girl?

Not to worry, we'll have her out in short order!

Uh, he said that...

I know.

Some things don't need words.

(Trumpets )

You're going to be fine.

Thank you for coming, mother.

Of course.

I love you, daughter.

Nigel: slowly, debbie!

(Panting nervously )

(Trumpets )

A little more petrol, poppety.

(Trumpets )

It's working!

Hooray!

Isn't it great, darwin?

Eliza, look.

Where is she going?

Eliza: rebecca?

Huh?!

Oh, eliza, you startled me.

Oh, I didn't mean to. I'm sorry.

It's just when I saw you walking off alone...

She's not alone, little girl, now go home.

It's all right, molly, she can stay.

Come over, child.

You see that spot down there?

That's where your father saved me

From those awful men.

All those years ago.

(Sighs deeply )

Rebecca, what's wrong?

Are you tired again?

Yes, dear, quite tired.

Go ahead and take a nap.

When you wake up, we'll go to the waterfall and swim.

Mmm, that sounds lovely.

(Groans )

Um, maybe you shouldn't do that.

Since you're so tired

You might not be able to get back up.

That's the idea.

Please get up.

If you're sick, we'll find a vet and get you medicine.

Rebecca...

I'm not sick, child, I'm just old.

We can take you to the preserve

And jomo will take good care of you.

No one needs to take care of me, eliza.

I have raised a lot of calves who are now raising calves of their own.

I've been head of the herd for more seasons than I can count.

And... My time has come.

(Crying )

Please, rebecca, don't go.

(Crying... )

Now, now, now...

I just met you. I don't want to say good-bye.

Then we won't.

Didn't we have a lovely day today?

Yes, but...

Shh, tell me about it again.

Well, we went swimming and picked flowers

And we rode all over the savanna.

How wonderful.

You remember...

I'll never forget today, or you.

And neither will my father.

Such a good man.

Thank you for reuniting me with my old friend.

Rebecca?

(Crying... )

(Sniffling... )

(Crying... )

Rebecca's gone, dad.

I'm not... Entirely surprised.

She was at least .

I know, but I still...

Me, too. Oh...

Should we just leave her here?

Oh, yes, her family will give her an elephantine burial.

(Sighs deeply )

Are you okay, poppet?

It just doesn't seem fair.

I know, but rebecca lived right up to the last.

I can only guess what her final thoughts were

But I imagine they were peaceful.

I bet she had a really good life, dad.

Oh, may we all be so lucky, pumpkin.

Look, eliza...

It appears the torch has been passed.

(Trumpeting... )

(All trumpeting... )

(Elephant trumpets )
