And the machine finds the story

Inside the object

And tells it to you.

♪♪ The grinch was the greatest

Of the meanest, by far.

His soul full of prickles,

His heart full of tar.

Except for an itch,

He lived all alone.

And that's how he liked it.

No friends, fax, or phone.

[Scratching]

[Knocking on door]

♪♪ Mm. Mm-hmm.

♪♪ Uh--uh, hi there. I'm selling

Subscriptions to the happy

Neighbor gazette.

♪♪ Mm. What a lovely

Publication. Ha ha ha ha ha.

♪♪ He kept to himself. He hated

Man or beast, lurking around.

[Knocking on door]

♪♪ [Sobbing]

♪♪ He hated well-wishers,

All kinds and all sizes.

Especially those bringing him

Valuable prizes.

[Knocking on door]

We're here to say you've won

Quadrillion dollars to--

[Slamming door]

All: day.

♪♪ The grinch scared them off,

And they all stayed away.

So the grinch was alone

Each night and each day.

Companions? Not one.

Not goldfish or leech.

Just that pesky old itch

That he couldn't quite reach.

[]

Alone's what he wanted

To gristle and glower.

Alone's what he was

All alone in his tower.

Then, one day--

[Barking]

[]

♪♪ Woof!

♪♪ Aah! Unh!

♪♪ That would scare anyone

Naturally. But it didn't scare

This pup. No, no, not he.

For some unknown reason,

This dog liked the grinch.

Where others would shudder,

This dog wouldn't flinch.

[Thumping]

[Thumping] ♪♪ hmm? [Grumbles]

♪♪ Hmm? [Grumbles]

Oh!

♪♪ Woof!

♪♪ You flea-bitten mongrel,

I don't want to play.

Haven't you heard?

I'm the grinch. Go away.

[]

Unh.

♪♪ And although the grinch

Tried to send him away,

It was clear that this puppy

Just wanted to stay.

[Thumping]

♪♪ Hmm? Uh!

♪♪ Yes, the dog came right back,

The stick all taped up.

♪♪ Aah!

♪♪ Was there no way to get rid

Of this pup?

The grinch slammed the door

With a shuddering shock.

But then--

[Knocking]

♪♪ What's that noise?

Could it be a knock?

[Grumbling]

[]

♪♪ Aah!

I don't want to play fetch,

I don't want to play ball.

I don't want to play anything.

Nothing at all.

Uhh! [Sighs]

[Knocking]

[]

[Whimpering]

♪♪ Oh, very well.

We'll play ball, my dog friend.

My canine nightmare is going

To end. I'm sending this off

Far away from my home,

To a cold, distant place

Just a stone's throw from nome.

This is one lesson

You may understand.

Go fetch this one, mutt.

It may never land.

[f*ring cannon]

♪♪ What the grinch said

Was true. Far away

That ball flew.

♪♪ This itch is the worst itch

That I've ever had.

I just can't quite reach it.

It's driving me mad.

[Knocking]

♪♪ Hmm. I wonder who that

Could be?

♪♪ Well, who do you know?

That pup came on back

Through the ice and the snow.

♪♪ [Whimpers]

♪♪ [Grumbling]

When I throw in a stick,

He will jump in this hole

And drop yards

Through rough anthracite coal.

He'll fall and he'll tumble

Through muck and through mire.

He'll be covered with dirt.

He'll sweat and perspire.

He'll drop into a cave

Near the end of this trip

Where the snappers will snap

And the snippers will snip.

They'll drag him nine miles

As they tromp and they stomp

Through the foul-smelling slime

Of old swimpering swamp.

Then this trip finally ends

At the great grondy pier

Which is miles from here.

♪♪ After digging and digging

A day and an hour,

The grinch climbed back up

To his grinchy green tower

And waited for--

[Knocking]

♪♪ Yes, a knock at the door

And a chance to play fetch

Through the hole in his floor.

♪♪ Fetch? Why of course.

My, that game is so clever.

[Laughing] let's hope that

My pitching is better than ever.

♪♪ Oops!

♪♪ Woof! Woof! Woof! Woof!

♪♪ Ha ha ha ha.

♪♪ [Howling]

♪♪ Good doggy. Ha ha ha ha!

Ah! Ah! Mm! Ahh!

[Knocking]

♪♪ [Spluttering]

♪♪ [Spits] woof!

And crunching machine.

It squeezed and it squashed

Into a pulp, then into a sauce.

Then it boiled the sauce.

For miles you could smell it.

Down to a pellet.

Pellets to fill the t*nk.

♪♪ Yet, we've been stirring

For hours.

♪♪ Even I'm getting tired.

♪♪ Come on, g*ng. Let's not

Leave this job halfway done.

Stirred a week and a day,

For alvin would have it

No other way.

Then they finally, finally

Found themselves done.

Much, much more done

Than when they begun.
