SOFIA: I was a girl
in the village, doing all right

Then I became a princess overnight

Now I gotta figure out
how to do it right

So much to learn and see

Up in the castle with my new family

In a school that's just for royalty

A whole enchanted world
is waiting for me

I'm so excited to be

CHORUS: Sofia the First

SOFIA: I'm finding out
what being royal's all about

CHORUS: Sofia the First

SOFIA: Making my way
it's an adventure every day

CHORUS: Sofia
SOFIA: It's gonna be my time

CHORUS: Sofia

SOFIA: To show them all that I'm

ALL: Sofia the First

[SOFIA READING]

It's time to begin
Princess Sofia's training.

She will be the first protector
of the EverRealm.

It will be a great challenge
and a great honor

for whomever is sent to train her.

As our leaders, it is your decision.
Who do you recommend?

-Chrysta.
-What?

That's impossible!

Vega, you can't be serious.

A task such as this requires
our most skilled protector,

someone smart and fierce.

Which is why we are choosing
Chrysta for this mission.

Chrysta is a courageous fighter,

but she is wild, Orion.

And proud and overbearing.

Pairing her with a princess?

Not to mention
she has never trained anyone!

She's far too tough
for a little girl like that.

All right, I'm here.

-Welcome, Chrysta.
-Hey, chiefs.

So, what do you have for me next?

That is Princess Sofia.
She defeated Prisma

and saved the Mystic Isles.

Huh! Hard to believe.

What's that got to do with me?

Princess Sofia has been chosen
as protector of the EverRealm.

You are going to be her trainer.

Please tell me you're joking.

It is no joke.

But no non-magical creature
has ever been a protector.

Which is why she'll need
a strong trainer.

Princess Sofia must get
her enchantlet by sundown,

or she cannot become a protector.

But I'm no trainer,
especially for some pampered princess

who can't put on her gown
without help from a maid!

See? She's not up for the job.

I didn't say that.

We will not order you
to do this, Chrysta.

But for the sake of the EverRealm,
we urge you to accept.

Fine, I'll train her,
but don't blame me

when this princess collapses
like a royal soufflé.

Are you sure about this?

Chrysta would be tough on any trainee,

let alone a non-magical princess.

Oh, I believe this
non-magical princess

may surprise us all.

-[HOOFBEATS]
-[CLATTER]

[THUDDING]

[GASPS] What was that?

-[CHIMING]
-[NEIGHING]

Coachman? Oh, no!
Where's the coachman?

Ah, you! Back! Come here!

SOFIA: Whoa! Whoa, there! Stop!

[NEIGHING]

Sorry to interrupt your trip
to the tea party, Princess.

[GASPS] I've seen one of those before.

Are you a protector?

Not just any protector,

the best protector
in the Mystic Isles.

The name's Chrysta.

There! Good as new.

Wow.

So, you're the princess

who wants to be a protector, huh?

Yes, that's me! Sofia.

Well, this isn't gonna be
some royal cakewalk.

It'll be hard work.

You may want to lose the silk gloves.

Oh, sorry.
I don't normally dress like this.

I've been really looking
forward to training.

What do we do first?

Okay, if you want to be a protector,

you gotta have an enchantlet.

[BOTH SNUFFLE]

Really? I get one of those?

You don't just get it.
You have to earn it!

Oh, right. Of course.

And you only have till the end
of the day to do it.

If you don't get
your enchantlet by sundown,

you don't get to be a protector.

First, we go
to the Isle of Forever Frost.

That's where I'll train you
in some skills you'll need

to get your enchantlet.

Sounds great.

The second part of the day
is the tough part.

You'll have to put
those skills to the test...

climb a glacier all by your lonesome

and get yourself an enchantlet.

Okay, I understand.

Well, I'm not so sure you do.

The Isle of Forever Frost

is a treacherous land of ice and snow.

I hope you're wearing
your warmest tiara.

All right, let's move out.

Oh, right. You can't fly.

Let me call you a unicorn.

There we are,
the Isle of Forever Frost.

Come on. We're going this way.

So, Chrysta, who trained you
to use your enchantlet like that?

Orion himself.

Orion! Wow, that must be
why you're so good at it.

Is it some kind of magical rope?

An enchantlet is
the number-one tool of a protector.

It can be magically formed
into a super-strong net,

or a lasso, or lots of other things.

You can even use it
to contact other protectors.

Orion, Vega, are you there, chiefs?

Is everything all right, Chrysta?

Yes, sir. Just checking in.

We're pulling for you, Princess Sofia.

Thank you, Mr. Giant!

That's Garish, the second-best
protector in the Isles.

[CHUCKLES] Oh, is that so!

We'll see how well
you do with this training.

Wow. Enchantlets are amazing,

just like my amulet.

Oh, that reminds me.

No using your amulet powers
on this quest.

We're testing what's inside you,

not your amulet, so no cheating.

I promise.

All right, let's get on with this.

What will I learn first?

How to tame a wild beast,

or use an enchantlet
to climb a tree, maybe?

Ahh!

You know what I call that?

Falling in the snow?

I call it a chance to try out
your first protector skill,

something you'll need
to get your enchantlet.

-Feather walking.
-What is feather walking?

I'm doing it now.

It's a matter
of muscle control and focus.

You can use it to cross ice
or snow or fire ice...

I'm ready. What do I do first?

Put your feet down
as gently as possible,

and float over the surface,
light as can be.

Now you try it, Princess!

That's the whole lesson?

That's right!

Okay.

Come on, now! Gentle footsteps!

[SIGHS]

[STRAINING]

Oh!

I think I'm getting better!

Why are you yelling?

Oh, hi! I thought you were over there.

I know you're
more used to feather pillows

than feather walking,

but you're just not getting it.

Show me again?

Oh, you had three tries!
I learned it in two.

-But I'm...
-Look, you get no special treatment

just because you're a princess.

[SINGING] This kind of training

Can be so draining

Especially for someone like you

A little royal

Probably spoiled

Such hard work must be something new

This job is not a parade

It can be risky and rough

You can't just ring for the maid

You've got to have the right stuff

If you want to succeed

Protectors all have to be

Tough enough, tough enough

Tough enough

The girl that you see

Is not the true me

It's just a picture in your mind

Of someone frilly

Of someone silly

But I am nothing of the kind

I am resourceful and strong

And when I climb up that bluff

You'll see you've got me all wrong

I'll prove I've got the right stuff

Then I'll pass this exam

'Cause I know that I am

Tough enough, tough enough

Tough enough

I'm tough enough

But you will have to be more
than just a soft powder puff

Well, you can doubt all you want

And be all grumpy and gruff

But when I take a stand

You will see that I am

Tough enough, tough enough

I'm tough enough

Tough enough, tough enough

Are you tough enough?

BOTH: Tough enough

Are you tough enough?

I got it!

Not quite.

SOFIA: Light as a feather...

Uh, focus.

Oh! Too... Whoa!

Chrysta, is everything going well?

Not really, Chief.
She can't feather walk,

and I gave her three whole tries.

Training is new to you,

just as being trained is new to Sofia.

Just take it easy. Be patient.

A little encouragement
from you might help.

Encouragement... right.

[STRAINING]

I can do this.

Try to keep your eyes up. It helps.

Oh, thanks.

And don't think so much about it.

It works best if you just do it.

Got it. Eyes up. Don't think.

Oh! That was very helpful. Thank you.

[GASPS] What's that?

This little kitty is
the next part of your training.

Your feather walking is coming along,

but you're also gonna have
to wrangle a magical creature

to get your enchantlet.

[CREATURE SNORING]

What are you doing?

Just saying hello.

This is training, not a petting zoo.

Okay, but he doesn't
really need wrangling.

That's because he's wearing
the calm collar I put on him.

-Ready?
-For what?

This!

[GROWLING]

You have to get
the calm collar back on him!

It's important to learn this!
It'll help you later! Here!

Ahh!

[SOFIA SCREAMING]

[CREATURE YOWLS]

[GRUNTS]

Okay, the princess has some moves!

Whoa! Easy there, fellow!

Hey, Princess, you need some rescuing?

No, I can do it...

but I could use a little more advice!

Try not to get roasted!

Not helping!

[GASPS] Hey! You like that?

Come on! Come get it!

-[GROWLS]
-Sofia! Watch out!

What are you doing?

Didn't you see him raise those paws?

I was fine.

He was playing with the light
from my amulet, Chrysta.

From where I was,
it looked like you were

gonna get batted around
like a ball of yarn.

Here, I'll show you. Just let me...

Wait, where is he?

Great. Now I'll have to go find him

and bring him back to the Isles.

Sofia, I have no idea how you're gonna
get your enchantlet at this rate.

I might have a better chance

if you would really teach me
how to do things.

Hey, I'm doing the best
I can, Princess.

I'm not a royal tutor.

Why do you say things like that?

It's like you want me to fail.

I'm trying to teach you
to think on your feet.

Fine. Then that's what I'll do.

Oh!

Well, you don't give up easily.
I'll give you that.

Thank you.

All right, Princess, this is it.

This is where all the feather walking
and beast wrangling practice

will help you get your enchantlet.

-You ready?
-What do I have to do?

You just climb up
the Glimmering Glacier here,

feather walk across the deep snow,
wrangle the ArctiCondors,

and make it into that cave
to get your enchantlet. Simple.

-ArctiCondors?
-Yep.

Their job is to do everything they can
to keep you out of that cave.

-Here you go.
-Right. Okay.

If, by some miracle,
you make it into that cave,

your enchantlet will choose you.

Now, you better get moving.
The sun will be setting soon.

If you get in trouble
and you want to give up,

-don't feel bad, Princess.
-I won't give up.

Okay, but the rules say
once you start climbing,

I'm not allowed to help you anymore.

It's your test.

That's okay.

You haven't really helped me
that much so far.

[GRUNTS]

Get in trouble and want to give up?

I'll show her what a princess can do!

[GASPS]

-Wow.
-[ROARS]

Ahh!

[SIGHS] Is she in trouble already?

[WIND GUSTING]

Uh... uh, whoa!

[GASPS]

[STRAINING]

-[GROWLING]
-[GRUNTS]

Oh!

Oh... Why, hello, little person.

Hale, what are you doing?
Send her down this instant!

But that would be rude.

Rude? We're supposed
to stop them. It's our job!

HALE: Lovely sunset, isn't it?

Oh, she got you
with a calm collar, didn't she?

HALE: You know, Windy, we never stop

to enjoy the sunset anymore.

It's just lovely, isn't it?

Well, yes. Hey, wait a minute.

I hope she didn't fall.

[STRUGGLING]

[GRUNTS]

That's it! You're doing it!

I did it! I feather walked!

Hmm, not bad for a princess.

Wow. Beautiful.

Excuse me, miss! Hello! Over here!

Hi.

I'm Stormy. What's your name?

I'm Sofia. Why are we whispering?

I don't want the dragon to hear us.

-Dragon?
-Yeah.

I was following him,

and then he saw me and chased me
and I got scared.

Don't tell my parents, Sofia.

ArctiCondors are supposed to be brave.

Where is he?

Over there. Hear him growling?

[SNORING]

It's not a dragon.

It's a Baronga,
and it's not growling, it's sleeping.

Now, let's get out of here.

But I'm frightened.

It's okay.

We'll just hurry up and leave
before he wakes up. Come on.

There you are. [GASPS] Hold on.

Is that our Stormy?

What are you doing with him?

Mom! She saved me!

I went into the cave after a dragon

because, you know,
they're not supposed to be there!

-But then it...
-Trapped him.

Yeah, that's right! I wasn't scared.

I wasn't scared at all.

But then it trapped me
and Sofia saved me.

-[GROWLS]
-Kinda did.

Ah, all right. I guess we owe you one.

We won't drive you away.

But first, take that calm collar
off my husband!

Aw, I'm so glad you didn't fall
off the glacier, nice Princess.

Do you need a hug?

And please hurry!

Right. Sorry.

[ROARS] What's going on?

Who's this? I'll get rid of her.

It's all right. It's all right, dear.

The princess saved our boy.

Go on, get your enchantlet.
We'll call it even.

Oh, there's still the...

Whoa! Baronga!

Whoa!

Whoa!

I gotta say, kid, that was great!

You got past the big birds,
saved the little one,

even threw in some feather walking
for good measure!

Now, come on, show me your enchantlet!

-I didn't get it yet.
-You what?

I was about to,
but then I saw the little ArctiCondor,

and I had to get him
away from the Baronga.

I couldn't just leave him there.

But you were supposed to get
the enchantlet by sundown!

The sun's not down yet.
I can still do it.

The path to the cave
is buried in snow!

Even feather walking,
you couldn't get there in time.

So that's it?
I don't get to be a protector?

-I'm afraid not.
-But I was so close.

Look on the bright side.
You're still a princess.

You can go back to your tea parties

and fancy dances and...

Is that still what you think,
that I'm some helpless girl?

-Well, I...
-It's like you decided

-you knew me before you even met me!
-Listen, Sofia...

Then you were so busy
saying I couldn't do it,

you never took the time
to help me do it!

-Well, that's...
-Did Orion train you?

-Yes.
-I bet he encouraged you.

I bet he showed you how to do things,

not just tell you
that you couldn't do them.

That's... That's true.

Oh, maybe you're right.

I didn't give you much of a chance,

and I could've shown you better
how to do things.

Turns out I'm not so good
at this training stuff.

It was me who failed, Sofia, not you.

But where are you going?

To wrangle that Baronga
and take him home.

[SIGHS]

Oh, no! Chrysta, wait!

I have to get up there. But how?

Excuse me, Mrs. ArctiCondor!

I need your help!

Down here!

All right, big fella.
Time to put this collar on.

Uh-oh. This just got interesting.

[GROWLING]

-[GRUNTS]
-Sofia!

Hang on! Here, kitty, kitty, kitty!

Remember this?

Gotcha.

Wow, I'm officially impressed!

Did I just see you
riding an ArctiCondor?

Yes, you did.

Nice! [GASPS]
Sofia, the sun hasn't set yet!

There's still time! Quick!

Remember...

It will pick me.

But none of them are choosing me!

Well, it's not just those.

Look around you, Sofia.

These are enchantlets, too!

Amazing!

I did it! I got my enchantlet!

You know, I gotta say,

princesses are much tougher
than I thought.

Tried to tell ya.

Look, you did great, Sofia,

but there's a lot more training to do.

If you want, I can get Orion
to assign you another trainer.

Well, you may not be the best trainer,

but you are the best protector,

so I guess I'm lucky to have you.

Let's give this a try.

Okay!

But you could be a little nicer.

Noted. Hey, what do you say

we get this Baronga
back where he belongs?

-I'm glad he's a kitten.
-He's a kitten?

They are a handful when they're grown.

The path is gone.

I'm gonna have to
figure out another way down.

Well, he might help.

Okay, enchantlet lesson number one...

Step over here, then flick your wrist
to get it started.

Amazing!

Great!

Now, flick faster as you go in a loop
to make a lasso.

Like this?

Close. Flick a little faster,

and loop! Come on, you can do it!

-Yeah, that's it!
-I did it!

Now loop it over his body,

but keep it loose
so you don't hurt him.

Now, let it fly!

Now you're looking
like a real protector!

Climb on!

And you're helping
like a real trainer!

-Let's go, boy!
-[MEOWING]

Whoo-hoo!

You know, we've never had
a non-magical protector before.

You're something totally new.

We should call you Sofia the First!

I like the sound of that.
