My dad's 73,
which is, like, the age

of most people's,
like, grandparents.

Like, my dad's old, basically.

Like, he was, I don't know, 45,
mid-40s when he had me, right?

So, like, I always appreciated,
like, how wise he is.

He taught me how to be a man.

My mom taught me how to be
sweet and caring,

all that kinda stuff.

My mom's literally the sweetest,

most caring, loving person ever.

My mom's an angel.
Yeah.

And she sounds very similar
to your mom.

Sounds the same, yeah.

My parents both instilled
my faith, right?

Mm-hmm.

But my mother, like...

she has made sure
that I rely on my faith

through everything.

Tell me about your dad.

My dad.

My dad's not even 50 yet.

My siblings have it so easy.

that had it the hardest.

It made me the way I am today.

my younger brother's 26,

so we're, like,
a year and a half,

two years apart.

My parents, like, always kinda
put that responsibility

on me, though, to be, like--

be a good example
and all that kinda stuff.

Like, just kinda like
what you're saying.

And I never got into dr*gs
or, like, drinking,

anything like that at all,

'cause, like,
I literally always envision,

like, a younger version
of my brother

just being there watching me
doing that stuff.

I wanted to be
the best example for him,

but um...

When I left for college,
he started, like,

really take, like, a dark turn
for the worse,

my younger brother, right?
Mm.

Just started to get
into some things

that were just not good for him.

You know, dr*gs, drinking,
all that kinda stuff.

And it was,
like, a really rough time.

Like, he literally was not
in control of himself,

I could tell, and that was not,
like, the younger brother

that I knew and I was trying
to set a good example for.

And eventually,
it, like, caught up with him.

He had to end up spending

the next four years
in prison, actually.

Oh, my God.
Yeah.

And that, like, k*lled me
on the inside.

[gentle music]

The thing that made it harder
was, like,

right before he went to jail,

he had a girlfriend
and, you know, just had a kid.

And it's just, like, chilling
thinking about, like,

how my brother would be,
you know, in prison

and we'd go visit him,

and, like,
when my niece was born,

for, like, the first two years
of her life,

she couldn't even touch her dad.

Like, it's literally through
the glass screen.

I just-Oh, my gosh.

Seeing my brother,
like, having to, like,

just put his hand
up there to hers and...

it was just so tough, you know?

Yeah.

But I'm gonna
be that second dad,

and whatever my brother needs
or she needs,

I always got them.

Oh, my God.

I'm sorry.

But that's what I mean
when I say, like,

going through tough times
in life,

they mean a lot, 'cause, like,
if I never had him,

like, I never would've been
so open

to, like, you know, people
going through things

like dr*gs or alcohol.

Like, I understand and I don't
pass judgment on anybody.

So as tough as it is,
it's taught me so much,

and he's affected me
in ways he'll never realize.

And, you know, just having

that older brother, you know,
relationship with him,

it's been the best thing
that's ever happened to me.

It's rewarding, isn't it?

I just love it. Seriously.

Is it k*lling you
not being able to talk to him

We're still best friends even.

Like, he got released last year.

Every time I get to see him
with his daughter now,

like, I just cherish that moment

I'd see that again,

to be honest.

My brother went through

How has it impacted you?

more than anything.

in my lifetime, our lifetime,
