[grunting]

Hey, please don't hurt me.

Please don't hurt me.

Rusty.

Get out, ed.

This treasure is mine.

Not if I get there first.

I'm f.T.F.

No, I'm first to find.

[laughs]

It's my treasure, rusty.

[laughs]

Oh, my god.

Dead female, maybe 20, no I.D.

Stuffed in a samsonite.

Was she r*ped?

Not my area of expertise.

But who ever did her, stripped her nude.

k*ller doesn't want to leave any clues.

Where's our m.E.?

If her name is warner, she's still piecing together A jumper off the chrysler building--

Said to knock yourselves out.

Neck is bruised.

Looks like she was strangled.

Boy, he had to bend her up pretty tight To fit her in the suitcase.

But how'd she get here, she get dumped off a train?

There's a maintenance access door about a quarter-mile east.

That's how the two who found her got down here.

[guys squabbling]

Fellas...

Fellas, nypd.

You found the body?

Yes, sir.

Uh, he did not.

Shut up, rusty.

No, I was here first.

Yeah, and I opened the suitcase.

Girls, girls!

You're both pretty.

What, this lard ass?

No, I am not fat!

Hey, hey, hey!

Listen to me, stop.

He started it.

Scrawny little runt.

Well, we're gonna finish it down at the station.

Let's go.

Oh, nice. Nice work.

That's great.

Thanks, rusty.

So who wants to explain Why you were down in that tunnel?

[both talking at once]

Stop. One at a time.

You.

We're geocachers.

Come again?

Geocaching.

It's like a high-tech scavenger hunt.

Someone plants something in the city.

Then they go online and post clues about it And the rest of us race to find it.

Finding a dead girl's a game.

Uh, no, there's no way that she was the treasure.

Which means it's still out there.

Well, we did find this behind the switcher box About 10 yards down the tunnel.

That's mine, that's mine.

Hey, guys, enough.

It's nobody's until we decide whether or not It's evidence in a m*rder case.

But seriously, can you explain to me How a bunch of pins and a yo-yo are treasure?

Geocaching isn't about the money.

It's about the buzz you get being first to find.

Well, someone got a buzz k*lling that girl, So while you were down there tripping over her body, Did you see anyone?

Just him.

No trains went by, no work crew?

No, I only saw him.

Okay, so what about the person that planted this?

Uh, there was no way he did that, all right?

Geocachers, we don't k*ll people.

Maybe he saw who did.

Now give us a name.

That geocacher is a legend.

But he only goes by a nickname On his website.

"the master baiter."

[laughs]

Every time!

The master baiter.

It's ingenious.

That's good.

It's really good.

"techno-treasure hunt, The world's best geocaching courtesy of the master baiter."

He hides his treasure in crazy places.

Left a lunchbox under the bell at the stock exchange.

Middle of the central park reservoir.

Even managed to dangle one off a gargoyle's nose At st. John the divine.

That the treasure in our train tunnel?

Yep.

Kicked it off yesterday With a little video announcement.

[distorted voice]

You maniacs ready for The master baiter?

You're gonna have to dig deep for this one.

Let the hunt begin.

Okay, so we got clues to the lunchbox.

Anything to help us find him?

I.P. Address bounces to a new location Every time I try to pin it down.

And the html code is scrambled too.

Come on.

Give us a "but."

But it looks like the site's updated Using wi-fi access on staten island.

A discount store called the garb barn.

Uh, customers rarely use the wi-fi.

Employees love it, though.

Break time, they used to all run outside and smoke.

Now all they wanna do is log onto their facespace, Or mybook or whatever the hell it is.

We're gonna need to talk to them.

Which one?

You got a name?

Nickname.

Look, I got 100 shoppers in here.

I don't got time to pull my employees off the floor So you can quiz them about a nickname.

Attention employees, will the master baiter Please report to register one?

Master baiter, register one?

Not a masturbator, the master baiter.

The dead girl in a suitcase?

Found by a couple of your fans Near where you planted the lunchbox.

There was no suitcase in that tunnel.

You sure?

'cause it's pretty dark down there.

I went over that area twice trying to find The perfect cache spot.

Saw every nook, cranny, and ten-pound rat.

How about a human?

None.

Not unless you count the ones in the train That ruined my video.

We saw your video.

There was no train.

Yeah, that was take two.

Take one, train came round the corner And ruined the shot.

Still got the footage?

You maniacs ready for the master--

Damn it.

See?

Screwed the shot.

There's the suitcase.

Tossed right off the train.

Look guys, I swear, I never saw it.

I mean, once the train left, I got my good take and I ran.

Rewind it.

Give me that train number.

173.

Orange express to florida.

I cross-refed the tickets bought with the credit cards With the dmv photo and I found our jane doe.

Emily keefe, 20.

She lived in stamford.

So our victim was a passenger.

Sleeping car one way to tampa.

But the train left 45 minutes late.

It had engine problems.

So the perp finds her alone in the compartment, He kills her, He stuffs her body into her suitcase And then he shoves her off the train Once it gets rolling?

It's a hell of a way to start a trip to the sunshine state.

Old school way to get there too.

Who rides a train in a private room?

Only one way to find out.

Say it wasn't my emily.

God.

What about t*nk?

Did you find him?

t*nk her boyfriend?

Dog.

It's okay, she--

She would never have gone on any kind of a trip Without t*nk.

So see, sweetheart?

See?

You see, I mean, it could be the wrong girl.

There was no dog, But your daughter was the one we found.

Oh... [sniffling] it's okay. You just rest.

That girl was the world to him.

Even when she was causing trouble.

You're emily's stepmother?

I tried to be.

She was pretty wild by the time I married don.

Drinking, sneaking out, dating the wrong types.

Some girls like bad boys.

That's why her dad was so happy when she met owen.

Owen's her boyfriend?

Owen cassidy.

Real upscale kid.

Goes sailing.

Then he lost his job on wall street.

Didn't even care.

Said he's on "funemployment."

So how does owen support himself?

We never figured it out.

He spends all this time partying and sailing.

And emily was along for the ride.

She lived with him on his sailboat.

79th street boat basin.

Owen cassidy.

What's up?

I'm kind of busy.

Yeah, well, fit us into your schedule.

Hey, you're supposed to ask permission To board someone's boat.

I already got it.

Hey!

Drop it!

Now get over here or the next one deflates your head.

It's just Flare g*n.

That's not a crime.

k*lling emily keefe is.

What?

She was found last night.

In a suitcase.

She'd been dumped from a train headed for florida.

I don't know anything about that.

You're just the loving boyfriend Who suddenly takes up running as soon as the cops arrive?

I was smoking a joint.

I got scared.

Liv, I guess we're wrong.

Owen here knows nothing about emily.

Really?

Nothing about florida either?

This guy won't believe me.

Then explain the boat-slip that you own down in tampa.

Cell phone calls made from there every other week.

Hmm.

I...Don't wanna talk anymore.

You're gonna talk.

So owen, what happened?

[cell phone ringing]

Emily start nagging you to get a job, Cramping your "funemployment"?

What, did she thr*aten to come down there And ruin your good times?

Detective tutuola.

What do you got for me?

The reason your boy booked, It was a dozen keys of uncut coke stashed below deck.

You're joking.

Yeah, the weird thing is, There was nothing of emily's on board.

No clothes, no dog.

Just a tube of lipstick, But it looked more like his shade.

Okay, thanks.

Fin find anything fun?

Kilos of it.

But nothing belonging to emily.

You heartless son of a bitch.

Already scrubbed her out of your life.

Probably chucked her dog overboard too.

Do you hear gurgling?

That is the sound of you drowning right now.

Okay.

Okay, I've been dealing, but I didn't k*ll emily.

I wasn't even here yesterday.

I was sailing back from tampa after picking up that coke.

Do you ever tell the truth?

Ask the yacht club down in cape may.

I docked there on Tuesday, Partied with a buddy from my old firm.

So why was emily going to florida?

Don't ask me.

She didn't even know I was down there.

We broke up months ago.

Your stepmother said that she lived with you.

For a week.

But she hated it.

Got seasick tied up to the dock.

At least that was her excuse for moving out.

I think she met someone else.

Someone more fun than you?

That's hard to believe.

I swear, she moved out.

Her and t*nk.

Give us an address.

I think we've got blood here.

Maybe not.

Strawberry jam.

[dog barking]

Well, you must be t*nk.

Little guy got hungry.

Boxes from tiffany.

Oh, look at this.

We've got a thousand-dollar vase On a yard sale end table.

This girl can't make up her mind.

Or pay for half of it.

These stubs say she last worked in January at a nail salon.

Maybe her new boyfriend's paying the bills.

[typing on computer keyboard]

Maybe this is where she met him.

The best way to be a boss Is just to hire the right people And let them handle the details.

The detail here is m*rder.

A young woman on tasty sugar.

Her name is emily keefe.

Oh, god.

You sure she's a member?

Positive.

We're wondering if she connected with someone On your site.

We need access to her dating history, Any emails or chats that she had.

Yeah, that's not gonna happen.

The fun suddenly stop?

Nothing personal.

I just prefer to draw a very bright line Between privately-owned companies And any kind of government intrusion, Friendly though it may be.

We can get a warrant.

Great.

That's all I'm saying.

Do it legal, I'll throw the door wide open.

I couldn't find emily on tasty sugar.

You sure?

We saw it earlier.

Website must have taken it down.

It's almost like they're trying to hide something.

You know, she's not down the memory hole forever.

Every heard of the wayback machine?

Only the one that sherman and mr. Peabody used.

No, this one's no cartoon.

Takes digital snapshots of the web To compile an independent archive.

So with a little luck here...

Voila.

We can get her measurements from the morgue.

What I need to know is who she was dating.

I'll call paxton, have her get started on the warrant.

Now wait a second.

Look at the bottom of the page.

Emily says, "shy? I also double date With my bff pamela."

Now click her name.

[computer beeping]

I'm pamela.

I'm looking for rich experiences.

Send me an email.

Okay, so she has a cute friend.

So she can give us answers faster than We can get a warrant.

Can you tell I have expensive tastes?

Can you tell that I have a weakness for beautiful women?

Sounds like a win-win to me.

[laughs]

I should also mention $5,000 is my absolute bare minimum.

Minimum?

Allowance. Per month.

You move quickly.

When I like what I see.

Mm-hmm.

Oh, and when we travel, I always fly first class.

You make it sound like a business arrangement.

Oh, my god.

Is this your first date?

This is so awesome.

My last daddy was a virgin too.

Daddy?

Sugar daddy.

I'm gonna be your sugar baby.

Okay.

I'm gonna need a charge card from barney's.

And I can do getaways on any weekend But the last of the month.

That's when my boyfriend's band plays at re:Bar And I never miss a show.

You have a boyfriend.

Well, he's more like a fiance.

Does he know that you're doing this?

Of course.

Don't worry, daddy.

You spoil me, and I'll spoil you All night long.

Oh, yeah.

Let's say I want to introduce another person Into this little arrangement of ours.

I saw that you had a bff, uh, emily?

Oh. You're dirty too?

Mm-hmm.

That'll cost an am ex.

And it'll have to be another bff Because emily's an idiot.

Why do you say that?

She fell in love.

She and I totally used to party But then she met this guy.

On a double date with me, in fact.

Oh.

You recall his name?

No.

But I took a ton of pictures that night.

He was hot.

He was all over emily.

Kept saying he was so happy with our date He was gonna buy tasty sugar.

Hmm.
Here he is.

Vance shepard.

Mr. Shepard, we appreciate you coming on in here.

A little surprised you don't have An army of lawyers with you though.

Well, I've got nothing to hide.

So what can I tell you?

Where you were the night that emily keefe was m*rder*d.

I was having dinner with my assistant.

And is she the one who gazed at you adoringly Like you were bill gates but with better hair?

[laughs]

Lysette would never lie for me.

That's something only the boss does?

Okay, look.

I fudged the truth a little.

I'm the public face of a very successful company.

Not to mention, I've got a 17-year-old daughter.

Who wouldn't understand her daddy Being some other girl's sugar daddy?

Actually, I think chantel would understand.

She's got a great head on her shoulders.

My ex, not so much.

Joyce has, uh, anger issues.

Even before you started trolling the web For women half your age?

Look, I joined tasty sugar because I have A very hectic schedule, And being up front about the arrangement just saves time.

Time is money.

In your case, a lot of money.

Simple economics.

So is that how it went down with emily keefe?

Zero to bed in six figures?

Are you asking if we had sex, detective?

Just how much you paid her for it.

Yes, I helped her financially.

But I was a lot more than her sugar daddy.

I loved emily.

Oh, god, here we go.

No, no, listen, I--

I took her to museums, you know?

I--I encouraged her to go to college, I tried to broaden her horizons.

Detective, how many times have we heard that song?

The ballad of the loving john?

At least once a week.

You think I can't get women?

Without opening your checkbook first?

Yes, a lot of the girls on tasty sugar are like that.

Emily was not.

She was different.

And I was different with her.

Look.

I don't know.

Maybe I tried to help her because I'd screwed up So badly with chantel.

Long hours, gone every weekend, that wasn't--

I haven't exactly been the world's greatest dad.

But emily, I loved her with all my heart.

Which is why I broke up with her.

So you broke up with the woman you loved.

I didn't want to, believe me.

But I had to know.

Know whether or not she loved you For more than just your bank account.

And this break-up happened when?

Wednesday afternoon, emily cried.

She pleaded, and she got pissed.

Packed up her stuff and stormed out.

Said she was gonna hook up with an old boyfriend.

So you had a messy break-up with your plaything, And then a couple hours later, she winds up dead?

That's a pretty amazing coincidence.

You can't possibly think that I'd k*ll her.

Why, 'cause you're the cool boss of a cool company?

Look, I'm telling you the truth.

Emily came to my place at 3:00.

She was gone by 3:45.

You sure you don't want to revise those numbers?

I think it's time I talked to my lawyer.

Good, 'cause we're gonna call your secretary And get a copy of your very hectic schedule And find out where you were every minute of the day That emily was m*rder*d.

Yeah, vance was here on Wednesday, 5:30 to 7:30.

Not that he needs it.

Guy should be training me.

He was in my office all morning from 8:00 onward.

We're helping a.V.U. Break into the chinese market.

I had vance's table for lunch.

Bunch of folks from a.V.U.

Arrived at noon, cleared out around 2:45.

Thanks for your time.

2:45 gets him home by 3:00 to meet emily.

She's gone by 3:45.

Any appointments after that?

Daughter's soccer game, 4:00.

It was us against the monarchs in central park.

We kicked their butts.

Why?

Did--did something happen to my dad?

We just need to know if he attended your game.

Yeah. He was there.

Chantel, don't lie for that bastard.

Mom, I'm not lying.

She was in tears when she got home, Said he never showed, as usual.

Chantel, we need the truth.

Was your father at your soccer game or not?

Well, no, but that's only because He's got so many important things to do.

The only important thing he has to do is be a prick.

He gets her hopes up and then he shatters them And I get to pick up the pieces.

Yeah, 'cause you're never a bitch.

Can you give us Some insight into your, uh, ex-husband, The way he thinks, the way he deals with people.

Vance shepard is a child.

Immature, craves attention, He texts more than chantel.

And when he doesn't get his own way, He throws big fits.

Has he ever been abusive to you or chantel?

Physically?

[laughs nervously]

He came close a couple of times.

But mentally?

Every moment of our marriage.

He filed divorce papers on me two days after I had A double mastectomy.

Joyce had a mastectomy because she is a freak.

A total hypochondriac.

Perfumes, peanuts, One chemical sensitivity after another.

But then she got breast cancer.

No, she never had breast cancer.

She saw some TV show about women with The breast cancer gene who have preventative mastectomies.

Joyce never had the gene.

Or any family history.

Right?

But that didn't stop her from going on and on About how her, her breasts were ticking time bombs That had...

[sighs]

You know, in a weird way, I think she wanted to be sick.

To save the marriage.

But it was already long over.

Well, your problems are just starting.

You never showed up for your daughter's soccer game After you said emily keefe left your apartment.

I was too upset about the break-up.

Are you sure you weren't too upset About having just strangled your mistress?

Emily ran out.

I stayed home and had a drink.

I was there maybe 90 minutes before I went and had dinner With my assistant.

Vance.

Admit it.

You're gonna feel better.

Now you k*lled her, you stuffed her in that suitcase And you dragged it to grand central Because you wanted everyone to think That dead girl was on her way to see her boyfriend.

[door unlatches]

Uh, your dead girl certainly looked alive Leaving my client's building.

Care to see for yourself?

Miss keefe arrives at 3:02 p.M.

Like my client said.

Fast forward, please.

Miss keefe departs at 3:47 p.M., Like my client said.

And you just happened to drop by With the instant replay.

No, vance asked me to pick it up on the way.

Said there was proof he'd done nothing wrong.

This doesn't prove anything.

She left, he followed her, He k*lled her on the train at grand central.

Watch the tape.

Mr. Shepard doesn't leave his building For another 90 minutes.

Again, like he said.

I told you.

I had dinner with lysette.

And now he'll be having dinner with me.

Let's go, vance.

These detectives have a job to do Trying to find the real k*ller of that lovely young woman.

So you just let him walk out.

We have nothing to hold him on.

Oh.

Other than murdering emily keefe.

Shepard was alibied all day long.

Meetings, dinner, then home.

Same home his mistress strolled out of In living color.

Yeah, so bust his ass on prostitution.

Do I have to hand-hold you people?

No, but here's a news flash.

Vice handles prostitution, not special victims.

Don't pass the buck, stabler.

Who says their arrangement was prostitution anyway?

Oh, come on.

It's the world's oldest profession.

I think we've settled on the definition.

She got what's in his wallet, he got what's between her legs.

Unless he got something more.

You know, since the '70s, Courts have ruled that as long as a woman gets paid For something in addition to sex, Shopping advice, companionship, it's not prostitution.

Oh, okay, I get it.

So--so if it's a back-alley hand job for 5 bucks, She's a hooker, right?

But if it's 5 gs a month and all the shoes she can buy, Then she's some kind of what, entrepreneur?

Times have changed, sonya.

Or have you not been on craigslist lately?

There are some women who believe that just--

I can't believe that you're arguing this, olivia.

Why, because all women have to have The same opinion on everything?

When it's this obvious, yeah.

Look, we'll get shepard.

We'll just keep the pressure on him.

We'll find a crack in his little cult.

Okay, what about the secretary?

Uh, lysette, we spoke with her.

She knows nothing.

The secretary always knows something.

You think you can do a better job?

Watch me.

But I already told everything I know to the detectives.

Tell me, hon.

She's running the show now.

Let's go.

On Wednesday night, vance dropped by my place So we could share a cab to dinner.

It must have been about 5:30.

And his mood?

Fine.

He asked if he could pour a drink, But he's done that before.

And at dinner, He was the same old super boss he always is.

Pretty much.

And just for the record, You would never lie for him, right?

No.

Even after he bought you that very impressive rack?

Excuse me?

Well, come on.

A pair that nice has got to make a girl Feel pretty grateful, right?

That's none of your business.

Sit down.

Hon, everything's my business.

Your boss, your boobs, Your belligerent little attitude.

You need to start telling me the truth Or I'll throw you in lock-up, Where that cute little body of yours Will get you all the attention you can handle.

Incoming.

What are you doing?

What, harassing my employees?

Listen, you m*rder*d one of yours.

Oh, oh, I'm sorry.

That's right.

You called emily your girlfriend.

What are you, another cop?

You'll get to know me at your trial.

Which is coming up soon, by the way, Because your double-d alibi here is pretty shaky.

That's why these detectives are headed To grand central station, Where they're gonna scoop up every single security tape.

And guess what?

They're gonna find you on the platform Following that poor girl onto her train.

I bet they even find you hopping off down the line.

Wiping the blood from your hands.

Get the hell out of my office.

Mm-hmm.

See you soon, wonder boy.

We're leaving?

I thought you were gonna break the secretary.

Oh, I rattled the boss.

Mission accomplished.

Could grand central have more security cameras?

Yeah, I'm gonna call kathy, Tell her I won't be coming home anytime soon.

I'll make us a pot of coffee.

Detectives.

Lysette, what's going on?

I can't lie for vance anymore.

Did he tell you to?

Yes. Wednesday night.

But I--I don't wanna go to jail.

That lady scared me.

Lysette, tell us what happened.

Vance and I went to dinner, But he got to my place a lot later than I said.

He was disheveled, freaked out.

We barely made our reservation.

Did he say why he was upset?

He said he got bumped by a cab, Knocked down in the crosswalk.

And then...

He gave me this to get dry cleaned.

Told me not to tell anyone.

I think my boss k*lled that girl.

Okay, listen up.

I make this shot, blue team goes home for the day.

Right?

But wait for it.

Red team stays to finish the broadband proposal.

[awws]

I know, I know.

Here we go.

Vance shepard.

Drop the ball.

Put your hands behind your back.

What the hell is this?

Your arrest for the m*rder of emily keefe.

For god's sake, you have nothing.

Except for her blood on your shirt.

And a witness willing to testify.

Let's go, shepard.

You have the right to remain silent.

Anything you say can and will be used against you In a court of law.

You can't believe them.

You have the right to an attorney.

If you cannot afford one, One will be appointed to you.

I didn't mean to do it.

I mean, I was in love with her.

So walk us through it.

You said emily arrived at 3:00.

God, she was so beautiful.

You know, I, uh--

We took a train to maine last March And she said it was the most romantic thing Anyone had ever done for her.

Then she goes and breaks up with me.

You said you broke up with her.

No, uh, as it turns out, I was too old for her.

She says. Yeah.

I tried.

You know, I tried.

I tried to like her music, I let her pick the movies.

I gave her that.

I gave her so much.

And she betrayed me.

What's going on?

Wonder boy is done.

Where's his lawyer?

Shepard said he didn't need him.

Just wanted to get it all off his chest.

Oh, the hell he will.

I just got so angry--

Mr. Shepard, stop talking.

Do you mind?

He's not saying another word until I can get Dwight stanitch in here.

We waived counsel twice.

Now you're calling his lawyer?

Wait, wait, no, no-- don't talk!

Your suspect is clearly distraught, Which is exactly what stanitch will argue, And out goes any confession.

Do I have to make it any clearer for you?

Slow down, come on.

Get your hands off me.

Let's go outside.

Where are you going?

Where are you going?

I haven't finished yet!

What's your problem?

First you tell us to nail him, now you want us to back off.

My problem is, I wanna win this case, stabler.

The right way.

And us rubes don't know how to do that.

Would I be here if you did?

You are such a sanctimonious bitch, you know that?

Detective stabler, that's enough.

School's in session and you've got a lot to learn, hon.

Oh, hon.

If I'm gonna learn anything, I promise you It won't be an adolescent a-hole like you.

Hey!

I'm trying to confess here.

Will someone listen?

I did it.

I--I did it.

I k*lled emily keefe.

What--

Docket ending 1316.

People of the state of new york versus vance shepard.

m*rder in the second degree.

How does the defendant plead?

I'm guilty.

Be quiet.

Defendant pleads not guilty, your honor.

Request for a remand, ms. Paxton?

$5 million.

Preposterous. $100,000.

The defendant owns a very lucrative Internet company and has amassed A considerable personal fortune.

I don't want bail, I k*lled her.

Vance, enough.

Your honor, my client's company Has experienced a very sharp contraction In the past several months.

We will be pursuing an affirmative defense, Extreme emotional disturbance.

My client's professional reversal of fortune As well as the unwanted break-up with miss keefe Was too much, he simply snapped.

The only snapping was the victim's limbs As he stuffed her into a suitcase.

The man is a calculating k*ller.

No, no, I loved emily!

Mr. Stanitch, you'll get your defense.

Miss paxton, I'll meet you partway.

Bail is set at $1 million.

[gavel bangs] we'll take a ten-minute recess.

You cannot do that in a courtroom.

I told you what I wanted to say.

Why are you making me-- are you happy now?

Tossing us aside for some...

Young girl?

Mom, it's okay.

Okay, I need your help.

We need to go through those tapes after all.

If stanitch is arguing e.E.D., The everything rests with shepard's state of mind Before and after the m*rder.

So a shot of him looking happy and smiling As he gets on or off that train Blows the defense out of the water.

Let's do it.

I've seen three dozen sh*ts of emily boarding the train.

There is not one of vance getting on or off.

I give up.

Keep looking, he's there somewhere.

Or we're chasing our tails.

Sonya.

Hmm.

You do know there's no smoking in this building.

Ooh. What are you gonna do, bust me?

[scoffs]

Okay, fine.

Can I at least get a good cup of coffee?

Swill's the only blend we serve.

Oh, that's great.

Oh, this guy shepard is pissing me off.

We all know he's guilty.

Put him on the stand.

Half the jury'll know it too right off the bat.

No, not good enough.

We need facts to nail him.

Facts don't lie.

Facts can't be fudged.

You slam someone with the facts, The son of a bitch never gets back up.

Oh, my god.

What do you got?

We're not finding vance shepard 'cause he was never at grand central station.

Emily either.

What are you talking about?

Look at this.

Here she is.

This is the first picture I've actually been able to see her face.

Only emily isn't emily.

Why are you here?

To ask you the same thing.

You know why.

I'm guilty.

Not of k*lling emily.

As an accessory, maybe, But it wasn't you.

You don't know what you're talking about.

Look, you may not be the world's greatest dad, But doing this is not gonna stop her From seeing justice.

Her?

You think I k*lled that girl?

That must have driven you crazy.

Your dad dating somebody so close to your age?

Someone who even looked like you.

I didn't do anything.

You k*lled emily keefe.

And then you wheeled her body to grand central station, The whole time masquerading as her.

Masquerading?

And the worst part is, You almost got away with it.

Hard to tell apart, aren't they?

Except the real emily is dead inside that suitcase.

I swear, I loved that girl.

But you love your daughter more.

That's why you didn't call the police.

He wasn't home when I got there.

I had some time so I waited.

And then somebody put a key in the lock And I thought it was him, so I ran to the door.

And then this chick walks in.

Did you even know he was dating?

Only that he was blowing me off.

'cause he was screwing that bitch.

And when I saw her, I just, I couldn't believe that she was...

She was-- barely older than you.

And she smiled at me Like we were gonna be best friends.

That's when it all went blurry.

I grabbed her by the neck.

It felt so good.

And I walked in and saw her lying there.

Her eyes were open but she--

She was so cold.

And that's when chantel stepped out and said, uh--

Daddy...

Both: I did something real bad.

But I guess he didn't see me standing there.

He spun around and...

For a second, He looked like I was gonna k*ll him too.

The look in her eye...

It was as dead as emily was.

And I made her that way.

I've been such a selfish bastard for so long.

But that's when I realized God was giving me one last chance.

He took off her clothes, Jammed her in the suitcase.

He was crying.

He never once cried over me.

So I told her to put on emily's dress And take that suitcase all the way down to florida.

So her old boyfriend would be blamed.

But then the stupid train wouldn't go.

Finally, the train started moving again, But, uh, chantel couldn't take it anymore.

So I pushed that whore out the window.

That's when it all started coming apart.

You said you were gonna watch those tapes, and...

I told lysette to give you the bloody shirt.

He took the blame.

Said he k*lled her.

That proves my daddy loves me, right?

Chantel, this isn't the way A father's supposed to prove his love.

How do you know?

Maybe your father never loved you.

You know what, he didn't.

But I still know that this is wrong.

No.

What he's doing is right.

I'm helping my daughter.

You're throwing your life away.

You'd do the same exact thing.

No, no, come on.

I can see that in your eyes.

You'd go to the ends of the world If your child was in trouble.

Please, detective.

Just leave this one alone.

It's over, vance.

Could you do me one favor?

I'd like to see my daughter one more time Just to, uh, say good-bye.

Hey.

There's my girl.

Daddy, you said it would work.

Yeah, I know.

But they figured it out, sweetheart.

But...

You promised me.

I know.

[sobs]

I--

Please, just for a second.

[continues sobbing]

Make it quick.

I'm sorry, sweetheart.

I'm sorry for everything.

I'm sorry too, daddy.

I know.

Even for this.

[screams]

No! Oh, god!

[gagging]

Somebody call a bus!

Oh, my god!

Come on.

You'll never break another promise to me.

Oh, god.
