[COURTNEY] Pat?

Stay away from me!

[STRIPE] Courtney.

[COURTNEY] I mean it, Pat.

I can explain.

[COURTNEY] So explain.

First, I need to get you somewhere safe, okay?

[STRIPE WHIRRING]

[STRIPE] Let's go.

[ELECTRONIC WHIRRING]

Come on, you hunk of junk.

Is this thing even safe?

Oh, my God!

Come on, Stripesy.

- Hey.

Stop!

I... I just need a minute, okay?

I'm upset, too. Just...

Just give me a minute, please.

Are you okay?

No, I'm not okay.

What is that thing?

It's a prototype.

I built it after Sylvester d*ed.

You built it?

Out of old car parts.

What did your attacker look like?

I don't know. Creepy.

- Red hair.
- [WATER RUNNING]

He threw tires at me with his eyes.

It was with his mind.

[SOFTLY] Ow.

He fought my dad, didn't he?

Would you stop with that?

Who is he?

He's called Brainwave.

One of the Justice Society's enemies.

A member of the Injustice Society of America.

The Injustice Society of America?

None of you were good with names, huh, Stripesy?

It was a different time then,

- and look, the less you know...
- I want to know who Brainwave is.

I'm trying to protect you.

Did he k*ll my dad?

Starman wasn't your dad, and Brainwave k*lled a lot of my friends that night.

Johnny Thunder, Hawkman, Hawkgirl.

So, who k*lled Starman?

[PAT] Their leader. Icicle.

Where is he?

I don't know.

Well, I bet Brainwave does.

- Hey, hold on a sec.
- No, you hold on.

There's no way it's a coincidence this psychopath is in the same small town that you are.

No more secrets, no more lies.

What's Brainwave doing in Blue Valley?

[COSMIC STAFF BUZZES]

[THUNDER RUMBLES]

[WOOD CREAKING]

[WOOD CREAKING]

What the hell are you doing?
I could've k*lled you.

Why are you wearing that?

We have a problem, William.

It couldn't wait until morning?

This girl has Starman's staff.

Where did she get it?

[CLICKS TONGUE] I don't know.

You need to alert the others.

- Tell them to be prepared.
- No.

Not until we know exactly what's going on.

I called Jordan.

He left me in charge. Now, why wouldn't you come to me first?

[THINKING] I know how you think.

You're ready to take your family and run.

I'll warn you once.

Stay out of my head, Henry.

I understand your concern, William. I do.

But the work we're doing here in Blue Valley is the perfect test case for Jordan's grand plan.

It's far too important to us.

To our families and to their futures, to abandon.

Project: New America is our purpose.

Our legacy.

It's what we're doing here.

Isn't it?

[GULPS]

Of course.

I'm going to locate this girl.

I'm going to find out what she knows...

And then I'm going to k*ll her.

[DOOR CLOSES]

[WHISPERS] William, who were you talking to?

No one.

- But I heard...
- Go back upstairs, Denise.

This is my business, not yours.

[CAT MEOWS]

[THUNDER RUMBLES]

[COURTNEY] I want the whole truth, Pat.

I'm telling you everything, okay?

Right now. Geez. [EXHALES]

A teammate of Starman's, a member of the Justice Society of America called Hourman.

I thought you said they all d*ed.

Can I just get through this?

It's not easy for me either, you know?

Hourman survived that night and he took it upon himself to follow the Injustice Society's trail across the country, from Los Angeles to Colorado to Nebraska.

He and his wife d*ed in an accident shortly after they got here.

Two years ago I followed Rex's research here.

That's when I met your mom.

Why'd he give it to you?

It's not like he had a lot of options.

I was the only one left.

Mmm.

[PAT] When I got to Blue Valley,

I couldn't pick up the Injustice Society's trail.

I thought maybe they passed through or even left the country.

I never would've moved us here if I thought any of them actually stayed in Blue Valley.

I wouldn't put you or your mom in danger like that. Or Mike.

If you stopped looking for them, why the big robot?

I thought I could help Hourman, but he wanted to go it alone.

I never used that robot before tonight.

It was the first time.

Okay.

Brainwave's in this town somewhere for whatever reason.

So, let's go find him...

- You're being careless, all right?
- [SCOFFS]

Brainwave might not be alone

- and he saw you.
- It was dark.

And he finds out who you are and comes here?

I don't even want to think about it.

You know, you might laugh at those red-and-white stripes I wore, but people looked at those instead of my face.

We had costumes for a reason.

To protect our families.

Costume. Check.

- Probably need a mask, too.
- No.

- Upgrade.
- No costumes.

No, no, I... I get it.

I totally see your point, Pat.

Protect the family. Superhero rule number one.

Rule number one is that I'm doing this without you.

This has to be the reason the staff lit up because it knows the bad guys are here.

This is my chance, Pat, to do something for my dad.

Starman wasn't your dad and you're not going to touch the staff ever again.

You can't do that.

You're years old.

You said you met my dad when he was .

- That was different.
- How?

For a whole lotta reasons that I don't have to explain right now, okay?

I'm not going to sit on the sidelines like you did, Pat.

Hey.

I'm not sitting on the sidelines.
