( dramatic theme playing)

Well, you're going to have
one happy little boy tomorrow.

I just saw the decorations
and they're fabulous.

Really magical.

I hope so.

Well, you don't have
to hope so, they are.

Is everything all right?

Oh, I'm fine.

I just have a million things to
do downtown before the party.

Maybe I'm anticipating
being the mother

of someone who's
in his terrible 's.

Of course, my son couldn't be
anything but wonderful, right?

Of course.

( dramatic theme playing)

( ringing)

Hello, this is Fallon Colby.
Did Dr. Walcott get back yet?

Good. When can I see him?

I'm on my way.

( majestic theme playing)

Ah, we need one of
our planes this morning.

Yes, that'll be fine.

We'll be flying
to San Francisco.

Yep. Be ready to take
off in about two hours.

Right.

Blake, I need some
help handling these calls

on the China Sea leases.

It's incredible.

I mean, the seismological
survey isn't even in yet

and every company
in the world wants in.

Early shoppers
looking for a discount.

Yeah.

(chuckles)

Well, Denver-Carrington
doesn't make deals

until it's ready.

I hope you told them that.

I told them exactly that.
I said, "Jump in line."

Oh, by the way, I'm
gonna be flying out

to the coast this morning.

Our deep-sea survey ship

has been outfitted with
new sonar equipment.

I wanna take a look at them.

But you will be back
for the party tomorrow?

My grandson's second birthday?

And a chance for me to ride
on a choo-choo train once again?

Of course, I would.
You know that.

That's good because I didn't
wanna spend the afternoon

explaining why
grandpa wasn't there.

I don't think he'd
understand oil leases

and the latest in
sonar technology yet.

Maybe when he's
or , but not yet.

ADAM: Excuse me.

I'll talk to you in a minute.

Go ahead.

Father, I'd like you to
look at this geological map.

The Tonkin Gulf.

Hm.

What are these, uh...?
These marked areas here?

They're where the
geologists feel we should start.

Of all the areas you've leased,

we feel that these have
the greatest potential.

All right. Let's do it.

Just like that?

What, is that all
right with you?

No. I mean, yes.

Father, this, uh,
strange feeling,

this charged feeling of being
part of an operation this huge,

well, it's pretty heady stuff.

Well, take a very
deep breath, son,

because the air does
smell a lot sweeter

when you're standing
on top of the mountain.

A lot sweeter.

(chuckling)

What are you doing at my desk?

When I was
cleaning out my office,

I find some of your
reports, Krystle.

I was just putting them back.

I know you now, Tracy,

and you've never been
capable of just doing anything.

(sighs)

I was hoping I'd be out of
here before you got back, okay?

No, it's not okay.

Is that all you have to say

after everything
that's happened?

Your husband
said it all, I'm sure.

You got what you deserved,

if not what you were after,

my husband.

I don't have to take this.

Especially from
someone who started out

exactly where I am.

Really, Krystle, don't
you recognize yourself?

I'm just following
in your footsteps.

What is that supposed to mean?

The tradition you started
when you were just a secretary,

with an eye out for the
boss and a better life.

If that boss had been married,

my guess is it
wouldn't have stopped

someone like you for a minute.

Maybe less.

( dramatic theme playing)

Your little game's over, Tracy.

And you've lost.

Wrong. You are
so wrong, Krystle.

You see, the way I play,

the game isn't over until
the team walks off the field.

So just between us, let's
consider this a timeout.

(door shuts)

( dramatic theme swells)

All right.

Okay, Fallon, close
your eyes, hey?

Now, I want you to
bring your fingertips...

Hold your arms out.

Bring your fingertips
in to touch your nose.

Slowly.

You can open your eyes now.

How did I do?

Nicely, Fallon. Just
take it easy, okay?

Well, it's a little
hard to relax

with all these pains
inside of my head.

Your reflexes are all normal.

I suspect the headaches

are just a part of
the healing process.

I did tell you that
following a skull fracture,

occasional headaches
were not abnormal.

But these are not just
headaches, Dr. Walcott.

It could be tension.

I'm not tense.

Well, maybe I am,

but the other day, when
I was on the carousel,

the music turned into
noise, this unbearable noise,

and it was as
though it were coming

from deep inside of my head.

Fallon, I think a
brain scan is in order.

No, no, I'm glad you caught
me, Lieutenant Taylor.

Yeah. Well, I'm out
here at the airport

just about to leave.

No, I'll be back
in Denver tonight.

And I will certainly
deal with it then. Yes.

Thank you very much.

Hello, Alexis. How
was Hong Kong?

Fascinating.

And I bought myself
some beautiful things.

Oh, by the way, I
saw you on television

the other night
with Rashid Ahmed

when you announced
your China Sea oil lease.

Oh, you made such a cute couple.

Ever thought of taking
your act on the road?

Well, if we do, you
should be our agent.

You deserve a commission.

After all, it was you
who brought us together

in Italy two years ago.

I have you to
thank for that, uh...

That fortunate alliance.

Strange. You never
thanked me for our children,

but you do thank me for
introducing you to a man

who you once professed to hate.

Oh, I know who I'm dealing with,

but it's not going to
undermine our effort.

We're developing a
vast new source of oil,

and for that, I would do
business with anyone.

Including the devil, no doubt.

Well, I think that Rashid Ahmed
is so diabolical that I'm glad...

No, I'm lucky that our paths
didn't cross in Hong Kong.

But I'm sure that
you can handle him

and I do really wish
you well in this venture.

That's very kind of you.

Because the day
that we start pumping,

what I'm sure will be
millions of barrels of oil,

is the day that your
company does an about-face,

and Denver-Carrington
moves into the lead.

We're going to be number one.

And that's the day that they'll
give away fur coats in hell.

Cute. Real cute.

Mark, how many
times have I told you

that I don't like
your eavesdropping?

See that the luggage gets
back to my apartment right away.

( dramatic theme playing)

Um, this cablegram just
came in for you, Mrs. Colby.

And there was a phone
call from Morgan Hess.

He said he was being
detained at police headquarters.

Oh.

It doesn't surprise me.

He's the sort of slime
who gets into trouble

and expects everyone
to bail him out.

Will there be a reply?

No, Lloyd.

It's "Douglas," ma'am.

Of course it is.

Steven.

Mother.

Darling, what a lovely
way to welcome me back.

I adore Sterling Silver
roses. They're so beautiful.

They were until you
walked in and eclipsed them.

(chuckles)

So tell me the good
news. I want all the details.

How many leases and where?

(sighs)

I'm sorry to
disappoint you, Steven,

but we never had a chance.

Your father had
them all tied up.

What?

Oh, I don't believe
this is happening.

I did the work on that
report and Adam stole it.

Mother, this project
belongs to Colbyco.

We've gotta do
something about this.

We've got nothing to
show for all that research.

Not a damn thing.

I know. It's
absolutely terrible,

but in business you have to
take your losses gracefully.

But we didn't lose this,

my lying brother
ran off with it.

We have a right to what is ours.

One day it'll even up, and
we'll get what we deserve,

and until then there's
nothing we can do.

Mother, I-I don't
understand. This isn't like you.

Why aren't you
putting up a fight?

Darling, I'm doing it for you.

There will always
be another deal,

but there won't
always be a chance

for you to reconcile
with your father.

It took you two so long
to accept each other and I

wouldn't want to
be part of anything

that would destroy
that relationship.

You really mean that, don't you?

Yes, I do.

If we take action against
Denver-Carrington,

that's going to ruin
something that you really value.

Sorry I blew up.

You're a man of feeling,
there's nothing wrong with that.

I want you to put this
in the back of your mind

and forget it ever
happened. I have.

I'll talk to you soon.

Okay.

"expl*si*n tomorrow.
Rashid Ahmed."

And a thousand blessings
on your head, dear Rashid.

( dramatic theme swells)

( majestic theme playing)

I ordered the blowups of those
China Sea maps yesterday.

You said they'd be ready
in hours. Are they?

Well, call me when you do.

Big operator barking out orders.

Nothing like enjoying the fruits

of another guy's
labor, is there?

You don't know when
to quit, do you, Steven?

I have to tell you, I'm
getting a little bored

with this absurd notion
of yours. It's wearing thin.

You know, you may be dressed
like a gentleman of the manor,

but you're nothing
but a thief, Adam.

A common thief.

(phone ringing)

Yes. Speaking.

Fine. Thank you.

(grunting)

Hey, Steven.

Hi.

(exhales heavily)

You better save some energy
for those kids this afternoon.

I'll be all right.

You know, it's funny, it
doesn't seem that long ago

that you and I were kids.

Do you remember
my sixth birthday?

We went down to the lily pond

and you thought it'd
be fun to put that frog

down the back of Fallon's dress.

Of course, I remember.

She turned around
to take a swipe at me,

I ducked and she smacked
you right in the face.

Established our relationship
from that point on.

(chuckles)

Steven, we can't contin...

( dramatic theme playing)

This isn't the time or
the place, obviously.

We'll settle it later.

And we will settle it.

What was that all about?

To know Adam is to know
what that was all about.

Ask him, Jeff. The
keywords are "China Sea."

( majestic theme playing)

The blowups of
the maps I ordered.

What was going on between
you and Steven this morning?

Nothing. Just his paranoia.

Well, if this had to do
with the China Sea deal,

you better be straight
with me, Adam.

(chuckling): Well.

Steven can't seem to
let go of this wild fantasy.

In it, you see, I'm the pirate

who makes off with
his evaluation report

and then claims it as my own.

Thus, stealing from the
rich to give to the rich.

And is that a fantasy, or
is that what happened?

Jeff, you know damn well

this has been my project
from the beginning.

From the time I went
to Colorado Springs.

The only thing I know
about Colorado Springs

is you set Kirby
up at that motel.

Oh, come off it.

We've been through all that
and everything's changed.

Oh, cut the bull, Adam.

For all I know,
that China Sea deal

is one of your rationalizations.

Now, I wanna know the truth.

Did you steal Steven's report?

No, I did not steal that report.

And may I remind
you of something?

You're involved in this as well.

You stand to make a fortune.

Thanks to me.

( dramatic theme playing)

(door shuts)

Oh, it's a lovely lunch,

but it isn't why
you asked me here.

Well, there is something

I wanted to talk to
you about, Kirby,

away from the others.

And I thought it would
be more private here

than at the house.

What is it?

Well, I got a phone call
from Lieutenant Taylor.

He said that he had let you
see your father's su1c1de note.

Yes. I had to.

I needed to know if it was
really Alexis behind it all,

threatening to expose
the truth about my mother.

Your father's last wishes

were that you were never to
know anything about your mother.

And I...

Well, I simply
honored him in that.

Oh, I know that both
you and my father

were just trying to
make life easier for me,

but that is all done
and finished now, finally.

Good. I'm glad to hear that.

Because you must forgive
Alexis for what she did.

How can you say that?

Now, I know she
doesn't deserve it.

I know that what
she did was terrible,

but it's not for her.

It's for you and Adam.

Alexis is... Is Adam's mother.

I do hope you find some
way to forgive her, Kirby,

for the sake of your marriage.

Thank you, Blake.

I will find a way to
handle this situation.

I give you my word.

This is Kirby Anders.

Mr. Hall of the
Downtown g*n Shop

called you about
my taking lessons.

Yes, that's right.

When can I come down?

Yes, I can make
that, definitely.

In a situation like this,
anytime is the right time.

( dramatic theme playing)

What kind of media
coverage is this?

Well, you've been up since
dawn switching channels

to every news show there is.

Something tells me
you've got the inside scoop

on something about to break.

Something big, maybe?

Why don't you take your hangover
and your bloody mary and go.

"Down to your quarters, Mark."

You forgot to throw
that in this time.

Cute.

If you're here to apologize,

it's too little and too late.

If I were here about an apology,

it would be to
collect yours, Alexis.

Goodbye, Dex.

Exactly.

The lovers part,

but the partners still
have things to talk about.

Money talks and
I can buy you out.

No, I wouldn't let
you do that any more

than you would sell to me.

We both know the
potential in this partnership.

You and I have an untapped
fortune together, Alexis,

and neither of us has a
passion stronger than profit.

All right.

It's strictly a
business affair, right?

Strictly.

And as for the other affair,

I'm returning these
to my successor.

( dramatic theme playing)

Grand gesture. The
petulant schoolboy.

By the way,

here's a little business tip:

Denver-Carrington's former
PR person, Tracy Kendall,

it seems your ex-husband fired
her when he was in Hong Kong.

Anyway, she's very good,

she's very bitter,
and very available.

I'm not interested
in Blake's rejects.

But I'd bet you wouldn't mind
finding out some of his secrets

and she knows that entire
organization from the inside.

Yes, I've seen her around.

She's, uh, quite good-looking.

(chuckles)

Why don't you hire her
for your own purposes?

After you, Alexis,

I really think the less involved
I am with good-looking women,

the more chance I stand
at ever being happy.

(laughing)

(sighs)

( dramatic theme swells)

( majestic theme playing)

You know what?

What?

This is cute, but dumb.

Now, come on,

just because you're
the best-looking clown

since Bozo doesn't mean
you can give me a rough time.

You look great.

You should start
practicing your walk.

Oh, okay. (bells jingling)

Love those shoes.
They're so you.

Oh, you like them? (honks horn)

(laughing)

(phone rings)

Hello?

The party, Mother,
begins at : .

The same time it was
scheduled to begin

the last time you called.

Yeah, I'll see you there.

Okay, what is it?

Nothing. I'll see
you downstairs.

Oh, no, come on, now, I
know when you're covering up.

What's wrong? Oh,
it's just the party.

I mean, it's one thing
to give one for adults,

but kids are so unpredictable.

What if they all
start crying at once?

Well, the way I look,
you might be right.

(laughs)

Come on, relax.
Everything's gonna be fine.

Okay. Oh.

And don't forget the
wig. See you downstairs.

Wig.

( light-hearted theme playing)

(speaking inaudibly)

(children laughing, chattering)

(all speaking inaudibly)

(all speaking inaudibly)

(speaking inaudibly)

(all speaking inaudibly)

(crowd clapping)

Beautiful.

Isn't that beautiful?

Come on. Oh, say,
"Bye-bye, balloon."

(chuckling)

Oh, Blake. Isn't it magical?

Well, this is just a preview.

You should see
what I've got planned

for our baby's second birthday.

Well, if it gets any bigger,

you're gonna have to rent the
convention center downtown.

Well, I've thought of
that, or my football field.

(chuckles)

Excuse me for a minute.

I have to check on the
buffet inside for the big folks.

( majestic theme playing)

Oh, um, put them in
the house, will you?

Blake.

Hello, Alexis.

Isn't this a fabulous party?

Leave it to Fallon.
This is one area

in which she definitely
takes after me.

Mm-hm. Well, enjoy the party.

Blake.

Look, I don't mean to be coy,

but the cards are all,
obviously, in your hand.

Yes, I would say they were.

I'm probably at the end
of a long list of people

waiting to buy those leases
in the South China Sea,

but I do hope that when it
comes time to look at my envelope,

that you at least break
the seal and read my bid.

I'll go one step
better than that.

If I like what I read, if
the numbers are right,

well, then you'll have those
leases that you're after.

Oh, Blake.

You make it very
difficult for me

to hang on to a
lot of old notions.

You really are a very fair man.

Oh, I don't know quite
what to say to that.

You know, our paths had
moved in different directions,

but here we are celebrating

the one thing that
we did right together.

We'll always be
connected, Blake.

Through our children
and through their children.

Good to be sharing
their lives, isn't it?

Mm-hm.

(laughs)

Hi. Hi.

Has my knight of old exchanged
his armor for a clown suit?

The image is tarnished,

but when you're the
father of the guest of honor,

it goes with the territory.

Well, you make a
very dashing clown.

Well, thank you. Wish me luck.

(honks horn)

Come on, kids. Here's Mr. Clown.

Hi, what's your name?

Was that you? No.

No? Come on,
let's go. Here we go.

Follow Mr. Clown.

(honks horn)

Kirby.

This is what a child
of ours would inherit.

Adam, let's just
enjoy the party, okay?

Maybe that's easier for you,

you seem to get on better
with the host than I do.

Not that again, please.
Well, then, tell me.

If it isn't nostalgia for the
good old days with Jeff,

what is stopping you from
making plans for a future with me?

Just because I don't
want to discuss it

right here and now,

doesn't mean I'm
not making plans.

Alexis.

Not now, Kirby.

Yes, now.

Look, if it's got anything to do

with what I said
about your mother...

No, no. It doesn't.

Well, what is it?

Does that job offer in Paris
you made me still hold?

Yes, but I thought you said
that you weren't interested.

Don't go by first reactions.

They're often the result of
the surprise of the moment.

Well, what's your
second reaction?

I'm working on it,

so maybe I'll be
in touch with you.

( dramatic theme playing)

That's so high.

KRYSTLE: You like that, huh?

BLAKE: All right, Little Blake.

Now, Miss Peaches
is a nice horsey

so you be good
to her, huh? Okay.

You know, I've always had
a philosophy about birthdays.

I think everybody
should get a present.

That's why I've got one for you.

Oh. Mm-hm.

She's going to
set sail next week.

You're going to fly with me
to San Francisco tomorrow

and you're going to break
a bottle of champagne

across the prow of
our new survey ship.

She's being
re-christened "Krystle."

Oh, Blake.

Oh, what can I say?
I can't wait to see her.

Oh, she's a beauty.
Sort of like my wife.

Oh.

(shutter clicks)

Can you believe what you see?

Well, it's her
grandson's birthday.

Maybe she's declared
general amnesty for the day.

The only thing that
makes me more nervous

than Alexis on a rampage

is Alexis on a goodwill mission.

It's nice to see my mother
and my wife getting along.

Darling, all I want is
for you to be happy.

Claudia makes you happy so
how can I help but be fond of her?

I feel ashamed that
I ever suspected you

of being involved in that
awful plot against Claudia.

It's hardly the first time
that I've been set up,

but I'll survive.

I think we should put the
whole episode out of our minds

and forget it
happened. All right?

All right.

( dramatic theme playing)

Hello, this is Fallon Colby.

I'm returning
Dr. Walcott's call.

Yes, I'll hold.

Hello, doctor?

I hated to call you away
from the party, Fallon,

but this is the kind of
news that shouldn't wait.

Is it bad news?

Oh, no. Not at all.

I'm looking at a
very pretty picture.

In fact, I'd say, it's a picture
of one of the healthiest,

most normal-looking
brains in town.

Oh, God. Well, I'll
tell you what, doctor,

you send me that picture,

I'll have it framed. Thank you.

Goodbye, Fallon.

Goodbye.

(horn honking)

Here comes the gift
clown who's out of gifts.

Is it okay if I retire this?

Yes, it's okay.
Everything's okay.

That platter of tea
sandwiches is ready to go out.

Yes, Jeannette, right away.

Jeannette, is this watercress?

Yes.

Watercress is for giraffes.

You know, caviar would
have been more suitable

for such an occasion.

I'm sorry, Mrs. Colby,

but this is what Mrs.
Carrington ordered for the buffet.

She must have
overlooked the fact

that I was going to be here

and I adore caviar.

Gerard, ask Helen to make
some caviar hors d'oeuvres

for our guest.

GERARD: Certainly,
Mrs. Carrington.

They'll be along in a moment.

Very sweet of you, Krystle.

I hope everything meets with
your approval, Mrs. Carrington.

Thank you, Gerard. It does.

Thank you, Gerard.

Alexis, no one gives
orders to my staff but me.

Krystle, all I asked for
was a morsel of food.

For you, Mrs. Colby. Thank you.

Aren't you joining me?

No, I've given it up for
the next nine months or so.

Nine months, are you pregnant?

Yes.

(laughs)

Congratulations.

Thank you.

Not that it's all that special.

I mean, even
worms can procreate.

But they don't all survive.

You know, for a simple soul,

you can be very
cryptic sometimes.

Well, let me decrypt it for you.

You made sure I lost
my first baby, Alexis,

but you're not going
to get anywhere near

my child this time.

Stop playing
mother earth, Krystle.

When you've given birth
to four, then you can crow.

Four? What are
you talking about?

Did I say four?

Must be the champagne,

it's not meant to
be gulped down.

Of course I meant three.

You can't really
count the miscarriage

I had after Steven.

You lost a baby?

Don't be so naive, darling.

It happens all the time.

You know, you really
amaze me, Krystle.

You act as though
you're the only woman

in the world to
ever get pregnant

and the only one to
ever have lost a child.

Come on. That's a good boy.

There.

He's exhausted. And
he's running a slight fever.

I guess that means
he's still teething.

And the party was a success.

Well, you know, I've
never seen him so excited.

I know.

Sometimes I can't get
over how beautiful he is.

Fallon, I know I
promised not to push,

but I never promised
I wouldn't try

to win your heart with presents,

and you're lucky because
there happens to be one left.

(giggles)

Look.

Jeff.

It was Grandmother Colby's.
My Uncle Cecil left it to me.

Can I put it on?

Yeah.

Here.

It was her engagement ring.

Do you like it?

Oh, it's beautiful.

Okay, when's the wedding?

Whenever you say.

( romantic theme playing)

( dramatic theme playing)

(rings)

Hello?

It's me, Hess. I'm
down in the lobby.

We've got to talk.

There's no need
for that, Mr. Hess.

I've already taken
care of everything.

Look, lady, under
the circumstances,

you better hear me out.

( dramatic theme playing)

(speaking inaudibly)

MAN: Now, let me
check your grip again.

Hey, that's pretty good.

Now, you don't want to miss
if an intruder's breaking in.

No, two robberies
is more than enough.

I should say so.

Now, honey, the idea
is to squeeze the trigger.

It's a very smooth action, okay?

Now, I want you to try it.

Just aim right down your arm

at the target and fire.

Look, I know it might
feel strange to you,

but just like you
said, it's for protection.

Yes. Okay.

Now, honey, you jerked.
The idea is to squeeze.

Now, I want you to try it again,

only this time, when
you look at the target,

think of it as a real
person out there.

Imagine somebody's out there
who's trying to do you harm.

We are out of your reach,
Kirby. You don't belong.

( dramatic theme playing)

Hey, that's great.

Right through the heart.

If you keep this up,
whoever you tango with

is going to be in deep trouble.

( dramatic theme swells)

( dramatic theme playing)

All right, Mr. Hess,
what's the problem?

You call me from
headquarters and thr*aten to talk

to the press about
our past connections,

so I put up your bail, get you
an excellent lawyer, now what?

I just talked to your
excellent lawyer.

He tells me there's
a good chance

I might have my
license suspended.

And I could maybe get days

for laying those taped phone
calls on your daughter-in-law.

Well, if that happens,

you've only your
own stupidity to blame.

Trying to drive that
poor girl over the edge

and thinking that
you can frame me

for such a horrible scheme.

You know something,
lady. You inspire revenge.

I can still go to
your son and claim

that you put me up to it.

Even after you confessed
that it was your idea.

Steven would never believe you.

Now, you've had all the
assistance you're going

to get from me, Mr. Hess,

so will you please pack your
threats and get out of here.

Hey, look, Mrs. Colby,
I'm sorry about the thr*at,

I didn't mean it, but...

Look, you've got a lot
of influence downtown,

if I lose my license,

if I spend three
months in a slammer,

I'm out of business.

"Slammer"? What a quaint word.

If there was any true
justice in the world, Mr. Hess,

it should be your tailor who
should be sent to the slammer

for those hideous jackets
that he supplies you with.

Now, please go.

One day, lady, somebody's
going to get you and good.

Yes, you predicted that before,

and as you can
see, I'm still here.

Goodbye, Mr. Hess.

The backdoor.

BLAKE: I know that
Fallon likes to set the stage

for everything she does,

but I've never seen
her quite like this.

What, misterioso?

Yes. Knocking at my
door like a teenager,

calling for an assembly
of the entire family

in the library,
black tie requested.

You'd think after all
the birthday festivities

this afternoon that she'd
have had her quota of partying,

but not my daughter, no.

Blake? Yes.

I didn't know Alexis
had a miscarriage

after Steven was born.

I don't know what you're
talking about. She didn't.

Well, then why
would Alexis say...?

CLAUDIA AND STEVEN: Hi. Hi.

What do you think
Fallon is up to this time?

We were hoping that you
were going to clue us in to that.

No, she's been very
misterioso. Misterioso,
I know.

Oh, Blake. I wouldn't
worry about it.

Asking us all to join her for
drinks doesn't sound so bad.

Maybe it's about new
plans for La Mirage.

Maybe so.

(laughs)

I can't wait to see Blake.

Hi. Hi.

Oh, how pretty you are.

Oh, thanks, Krystle.

Fallon, you look
unusually beautiful tonight.

Thank you, Daddy.
And so do all of you.

I obviously have something
to tell you all tonight.

Good evening. Has
anyone seen Kirby?

Isn't she in her room?

No, she isn't. Thanks.
I don't where she is.

Well, we have a quorum,
so I may as well say it.

I'm glad you're all here.

It's the perfect ending
to a perfect day.

Or maybe I should say beginning.

Ladies and gentlemen,

we have an important
announcement to make.

No, actually I think it's
a happy announcement.

Well, it's not all
that spectacular.

Jeff and I are
going to get married.

What? Fallon.

Why, darling, that is marvelous.

Oh, congratulations.

You couldn't have
made me happier.

And we're going to
do it right this time.

No running off to Vegas.

We want to hold the
wedding right here.

Well, I'll go for that.

And I'll go for a toast.

To Jeff and Fallon.

(Fallon laughs)

Sorry to disturb
you, Mr. Carrington.

Mr. Laird just
phoned, very upset.

He said you should
turn your television

to the news station immediately.

Shall I?

Yes, of course.

And so Denver's Blake Carrington

has possibly gotten
himself involved

in what appears to be
an international incident.

It began with a news
conference in Hong Kong

called by Rashid Ahmed, who
represented the government

with whom Carrington
dealt in an oil lease deal.

Ahmed claims that
Denver-Carrington's

$ million advance
to secure the leases

was going to buy arms to
fight the other government

claiming that area
of the China Sea.

What?

This provoked an
immediate counter-reaction.

Naval forces have now
moved into the China Sea

and are patrolling the area.

So there will be
no oil exploration

or drilling there in
the foreseeable future.

What does this mean
for Blake Carrington,

who only a week ago
was being touted as

the American businessman
who had just pulled off

the deal of the century?

Well, that's the news
from around the world.

Local news and weather coming...

I don't believe that, Father.
How could that have happened?

You heard what he said, "Ahmed."

They're calling you the traitor.

I'm the scapegoat.
I've been tricked.

God, how could I
have been so blind?

Blake, what are you going to do?

I'm going to the office.

Ahmed is not going
to destroy everything

I've worked for without a fight.

I'll come with you.

See you.

( dramatic theme playing)

Uh, Mr. Carrington,
how about a statement?

All I can say for now is
that the story implicating me

in that arms deal is a lie.

Mrs. Carrington, how soon can
we expect a press release from you?

Soon as Mr. Carrington
has the facts,

I'll call a press conference.

What are your
immediate plans, sir?

To get in my office and
to run this thing down.

If I can't do it from here,
I'm going to fly to Hong Kong,

now, please, let us through.

One more question, please, sir.

Adam, will you
answer their questions?

Mr. Carrington, just
one more question.

ADAM: Sorry. Sorry.

No, I want you to keep trying
that number in Hong Kong.

Mr. Earl Cunningham.

KRYSTLE: Yes, that's right,
Beth. We need you all here at : .

We're setting up a
press conference.

Paul, we're going to be
flying to San Francisco again

tomorrow morning, : sharp.

The reporters won't let up.
I've got to have some help.

I'll come with you.

Adam, before you go.

You and I are going to be
flying to Hong Kong tomorrow.

We're going to track down Ahmed,

and get to the bottom
of this mess, all right?

All right.

Jeff.

I went into this deal
with my eyes wide open

and against all
my better instincts.

Yes, but you couldn't have
known how it would turn out.

I knew that the whole situation
in the China Sea was unstable,

but to get a powder
keg to explode,

somebody's got to light a fuse.

But why?

That I can't understand.

Ahmed got a fat
commission from that deal.

Why would he
double-cross me. Why?

She said that she didn't
see him when she was there.

What are you talking about?

The woman behind the man.

The person behind
this whole dirty business.

She went shopping, all right, in
Hong Kong. She bought Ahmed.

Alexis.

Alexis.

( dramatic theme playing)

Oh, you were perfect, darling.

It worked like a dream.

But then, you always
were a perfect liar

and a perfect lover.

(laughs)

And now you know
what your next move is.

So enjoy yourself,
Rashid, my darling.

We deserve it.
