Well, spiders are fantastic

Amazing webs they can build.

Oh, yeah.

Whoa. Susie, how do spiders

Build those webs?

Good question. Here'’s the

Amazing thing about spiders.

They build webs with silk that

They make with their own bodies.

Do you want to know how spiders

Use their webs?

Oh, yeah.

Well, they build a sticky web

And wait and wait and wait, and

Finally, an insect, like a fly,

Lands on the web and gets stuck.

Huh?

Then what happens?

Then the spider slowly crawls

Over the web toward the fly, and

Then...

And then what?

Then the spider sucks

The insides of the fly out and

Eats it.

Whoa! Ha ha ha!

Now remember, you don'’t want

To touch spiders or their webs,

But how would you like to try

Building a web just like a real

Spider?

Yeah. I want to.

Ok. You can become spiders

And try building a giant web

Together with this yarn.

Oh, that can be our spider

Silk.

You got it. Ok. Follow me

Outside and let'’s see what kind

Of web you can build. It might

Not be so easy.

Ooh, I want to try. I want to

Ooh, hey, it'’s halloween.

You can pretend to be a spider

And build a web, too. Ha!

Spiders are amazing engineers

That can build all kinds of

Beautiful webs. Now let'’s

Pretend that you'’re all spiders.

Can you work together to build a

Giant web? Take this ball of

String and spread it around the

Room.

Our web isn'’t sticky like a real

Spider web, so we have to wrap

It around things to make sure it

Doesn'’t fall apart.

Spiders build webs to catch

Insects and bugs to eat, so make

Sure the pieces of string cross

Each other so you can build a

Strong web to catch things, too.

Even with of you working as a

Team, it still takes a lot of

Work to build a web.

Isn'’t it amazing that spiders

Work all by themselves to build

Their webs? Spiders can work on

Their webs for hours, even days,

And if the web breaks, some

Spiders can even rebuild their

Webs overnight.

Ok. You'’re all done. Let's

Needs a big batch of ooey,

Gooey, yucky, icky, green slime.

Oh, that'’s right.

Ew! Slime!

Eh, I don'’t know.

Sounds kind of messy.

Ok. It'’s time for a special

Slimy super fab lab. Let'’s go.

Uh...hey. Susie was just

Here. Where did she go?

Hello!

Aah!

I am susie the mad scientist,

And I love to make slime.

Bwah ha ha ha! In this bowl,

You'’re going to add one cup of

Water. Then you'’ll pour in one

Cup of this corn starch. Then

Add some green paint. Mix it all

Together, and you get slime!

Oh. Bwah ha ha ha!

Ha ha ha!

Hey, scientists, it'’s

Halloween. You can make icky,

Gooey, green slime, too.

Bwah ha ha ha!

Ok, spooky scientists. It'’s

Time to make slime. First,

Measure one cup of corn starch

And pour it into a bowl. Then

Measure one cup of water and add

It into the bowl. Then add some

Green paint and mix it all up.

Keep mixing and look at that.

You have made icky, gooey, green

Slime. Bwah ha ha ha!

Now let'’s investigate what

Happens when you add too much

Corn starch. When you combine it

With water and green paint, it

Makes the slime lumpy and really

Hard to mix. Now let'’s discover

What happens if you add too much

Water with corn starch

And paint.

Ooh! It makes the slime extra

Gooey and drippy. Now let'’s

Investigate the first batch of

Slime you made. What happens

When you drop it? Wow! It turns

Into a liquid, and when you pick

It up, it turns back into a

Solid. Hmm, how interesting.

When you mix equal parts corn

Starch and water together, it

Makes a slime that can be both a

Solid and a liquid. Here is a

Solid ball, and then it'’s a

Liquid. Wow! Investigating with

Slime is icky, gooey, and

Scientific. Bwah ha ha ha!

Ok, halloween scientists, tell

Me, what did you discover when

You made slime?

Oh, oh, first, we followed

The directions. Look. I wrote

Them down in my journal. We put

In one cup of water, one cup of

Corn starch, and some green

Paint. Then we stirred it all

Together, and, ta-da, we made

Slime.

Great job. So what happened

With these two bowls?

Oh, well, we put way too much

Water in that bowl over there

And not enough corn starch, and

Then now it looks like green

Soup.

Ha ha ha!

And we put lots of corn

Starch in this one but not very

Much water, and it looks like

Lumpy, green oatmeal.

Well, I'’m very proud of you

All. You made some new

Discoveries, just like real

Scientists.

But instead of real

Scientists, we'’re, like, spooky

Scientists.

That'’s right, may.

On halloween, we can be whoever

We want to be. Hey, let'’s go on

A special halloween parade

Around the neighborhood so

Everyone can see your amazing

Costumes.

Maybe there could be a place

They could show everyone how

Idea. I'’m going to invent the

Not-so-scary haunted house.

Inside, there will be a room

With dancing skeletons that tell

You all the cool moves they can

Do with their bones. "Hi, sid.

Check out our bones. We can

Really move." Another room will

Be filled with black cats

Leaping high in the air.

"Come on, sid. Mraar! Jump with

Us. Whee! Mraar!" Another room

Will have spiders building giant

Webs you can crawl on. "Hey,

Sid, come climb on our webs,

Man." The last room will be a

Special ride where you can climb

On a bat and go for a ride while

He eats mosquitoes. "Climb

Aboard. We'’re eating mosquitoes

Today. Chomp chomp. Yum."

Whoo hoo! The not-so-scary

Haunted house is so much fun.

Ha ha! That'’s my

Super-duper-ooper-schmooper big

Idea. Yay! Whoo! Ha ha! I love

My bat costume. Halloween is the

Best holiday ever, and you know

What? I just decided I'’m gonna

Sleep in my bat costume and then

Wake up in the morning and wear

It again all day long. Ha ha ha!

Hmm, I bet you can'’t wait to put

On your costume, too. You can be

A spider, "ooh," a bat, "aah!

Flappity flappity," a cat,

"Meow," a superhero, "ta-da," a
