Jack vs. Lanterns (2017)

Post by bunniefuu »

(ominous music)

(thrilling music)

(insects chirping)

(man sighs)

- Yeah, how are you doing their old boy?

With that blank look on your face,

you look like one of them lumberjacks

used to work on the tree farm.

(groans) Back when we had a tree farm

instead of that damn there
forest that ate everybody.

(man laughs)

(man groans)

I don't know why I gotta
be out here working

by lantern light on these dang pumpkins.

Everybody else gets to hang around in town

this time of night, but you know,

them bosses over at the Gen Better,

they don't like to let an hour go

by people ain't working, no.

You ain't in a very
talkative mood, are you?

I can understand that.

(man grunts)

Me, on the other hand,
I could talk to anybody.

I can't get much, oh,
just like that! (laughs)

Here comes one of the security trucks.

He's slowing down to look at
us, smile for his picture.

(man laughs)

Don't tell him about that though.

They shouldn't be driving
that truck with this.

Oh, you know, speaking of town,

they don't let me go in there much.

We got the dormitories here,

and all the old workers, we live in them.

But I snuck into town once,
I took one of their trucks.

They wasn't happy about that at all.

And I went into town and
I thought I saw myself.

I was younger.

I was dang good-looking.

I don't drink though, young me,

which is weird 'cause
old me drink like crazy.

But you know, that's how it is.

They don't let us go in town.

(zipper clattering)

I can't remember what life was
like when I was young really.

It's almost like I was
born just a few months ago.

I got vague memories, but
they're more like a picture book.

Anyway, I suppose I should get
to work with this here mess.

I'm gonna give this a good swing.

Hang on now.

(man grunts)

(spade smacks)
(dramatic music)

(man grunts)

The ground is practically frozen.

I'll have to really give
it a swing. (grunts)

(cracking)

I think that might've been my toes.

This is why I'm supposed
to wear steel-toed boots.

(thrilling music)

(insects chirping)

(man grunts)

Well now, that, uh...

That doesn't look so good.

(slow mellow music)

I may have done myself a mischief.

(grunts) Woo!

I didn't realize my toes were so numb.

I'd better call the nurse

and see if she's still at the station.

(man groans)

(zipper clattering)

Let's hope they get.

Wait a minute now, I can
self-medicate a little bit first.

(bottle cap clattering)

(man swallows)
(man chuckles)

Ah, okay.

Hello?

Hello?

The trucks you're driving
up and down here, security.

We got ourself a work injury here.

It's a work-related injury.

I demand to talk to human resources.

Okay, hello?

They must be getting coffee or something.

(eerie clicking)

Oh, hello.

How much of this did I drink?

I'm pretty sure that should not be moving.

(eerie clicking)

Hello. (grunts)

Hello, hello. (grunts)

(man groans)

I wonder what you are, little buddy.

Whoa now, little friend.

You are not supposed to be
moving like that, are ya?

Hmm, you know.

I kind of figured lighter
fluid was not the right thing

to be drinking.

But I'm starting to think
you're actually moving there.

(insects chirping)

(mellow music)

(vine whooshing)
(teeth crunching)

(dramatic music)

(distant blasting)

(eerie clicking)

(man groaning)

(insects chirping)

(suspenseful rock music)

(man groaning)

(pumpkin crunching)

(suspenseful rock music)

(creature growling)

(creature growling)

(creature growling)

(suspenseful rock music)

(creature growling)

(bright music)

- So, Marty, tell me.

When do I get control of Gen Better?

I need to liquidate some assets.

(door knocking)

(speaking foreign language)

Paris isn't cheap, you know.

(door clicking)

It's been five months, Marty.
- Hello, room service.

- Get him to declare him dead already.

Witnesses say he died in the fire.

What do you mean there are complications?

(feet pattering)

No!
- Madame, room service.

- No.

(feet pattering)

(sighs) No.

- Hello.
- No, he can't just cut me

out of the will.

We were still married.

(feet pattering)

Look, Marty.

Marty, stop, stop!
- Madame, mademoiselle?

- Marty, I want you to stop the paperwork

that you're working on right now.

I'm coming home to find
my beloved Brad. (scoffs)

Oh, what the hell?

I've got about three
hours before the flight.

Excuse moi?
- Oui.

- Could you give me a hand in here?

- [Concierge] Oui.

(cheery music)

(insects chirping)

- The stars look so pretty tonight.

You're gonna miss this view

on your way to school in the city.

- Well, the city has lots
of different attractions.

- (sighs) Like college guys?

- You know I wouldn't cheat on you.

- Look, we both know things
are gonna be different

when you're so far.

- So far?

It's like a -minute drive.

with the way you drive, you maniac.

- I know, but, working at my dad's garage.

I mean, I'm gonna be too
busy to come see you often.

Now, I mean, we can still get together

when you come for the
holidays and stuff but.

(sighs) I think we
should see other people.

- Are you breaking up with me?

Take me home.

- Wait, wait, wait.

I mean, we can still say goodbye.

- (huffs) Seriously? (groans)

- What?

- You break up with me and
expect me to have sex with you?

- Look, I'm trying to be honest here.

I mean, I could've waited until afterwards

to break up with you.

- How gentlemanly of you.

- Listen.

Now, look.

Take you out to dinner,
I show you a good time.

The least you could do
is return the favor.

- Burgers and a shake are
not a ticket into my pants.

- Always has been.

(hand slapping)

- Wait, wait, wait, wait.

Where are you going?

- Away from you!

(grass crunching)

- Where are you going?

- Away from you!

- Not till I get what I need.

(groans)

Oh, please.

Oh, deary.

(dramatic music)

Oh, hey.

How long you been standing there?

I mean, how much did you see?

(insects chirping)

I mean, it wasn't what it looked like.

I'm not rapey or anything.

I mean, we're in a relationship.

So, you know, I mean, we've
done this tons of times.

Tons of times, you know.

(insects chirping)
(dog barking)

Of times, man, you know how it is.

I mean, you know, sex
with your steady girl.

I mean, that's a given, right? (laughs)

No, all right.

(grass crunching)

Man, what the hell is wrong with you?

(insects chirping)

You're a little early for the
pumpkin festival, aren't ya?

(creature growling)

(chuckles) All right, man, whatever.

Listen, I'm starting to feel better, man.

So I'm gonna go see if
I can catch up to her

and straighten her out,
if you know what I mean.

(grass crunching)

(dramatic music)

(creature growling)

(pumpkin crunching)

(dramatic music)

(pumpkin crunching)

(eerie carnival music)

(pumpkin crunching)

(pumpkin crunching)

(body thudding)

(creature growling)

(eerie carnival music)

(grass crunching)

(thrilling music)

- Hey look, Doc, I mean,
you keep saying dehydration,

but it's been months in
and out of the hospital.

I mean, there's gotta
be more to it than that.

She's seeing a psychiatrist now?

All right, if you think
it'll help, I'll come by.

But I really, I'm not
sure she wants to see me.

Well, before all this happened,

things weren't great, you know.

Fine, I've got some
work to do around here,

but I'll be in by the weekend.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Just after the holiday.

Things around here are too crazy.

All right, Doc.

Thanks anyway, bye.

(Jack sighs)

(metal clanging)
(man groaning)

That's funny.

I don't remember a pipe being around here.

(shovel clanging)

Hmm.

Well, this is interesting.

I'll be.

When they told me that part of the story,

I thought they were exaggerating.

(insects chirping)

- So this is Dr. Ignus.

Doctor, this is--

- Why are we playing meet and greet

in the smallest basement
in my grungiest house?

- This is the man who
can solve our problem.

- My problems are my own.

Private, I don't even like that
you know about them, Marty.

- Well, attorney client privilege...

- Means absolutely nothing

if we're named as co-conspirators

in defrauding my ex husband's estate.

It's a good thing you're cute and devious.

You're not the best lawyer.

- He's very dependable, Ma'am.

- And how is this man going
to help me find my poor, dear,

probably dead husband?

- Oh, your husband's most definitely dead.

Witnesses say he died when
the forest burned down.

There were a lot of bones found,

but they were too charred
to do a DNA test on.

I really don't have any
doubt that he's dead,

which is why I don't feel
like I'm betraying him now.

- Only betraying his final wishes

by helping me regain my inheritance.

- There is that, but he
wasn't near as generous

as I expect you will be if
I can help you fix this.

- And just how do we fix this, Marty?

- Well, his will has already
been notarized and filed.

Changing that now will raise
more than a few eyebrows.

- I've already thought of that.

Again, how do we fix this, Marty?

- Well, we find him.

The two of you are seen
in public together,

showing your renewed love.

He revises his will, and then
some tragedy befalls him.

Again.

- But if he's dead,
how do we arrange that?

Do we hire a look alike?

Ooh, we can hire an actor and
do plastic surgery on him.

- Close.

(woman gasps)

(insects chirping)

- I guess you'll have to do.

(metal clanging)

I'm not kidding, I got a
lot more digging to do.

The damn thing's gotta be here, somewhere.

It's a whole car, right?

There's gotta be some parts.

God, I hate vines! (groans)

(leaves crunching)

- Vagrants in this town just keep

disguising themselves
to stay on the streets.

Come on.

(leaves rustling)

Decorations.

You are an ugly b*stard, aren't you?

(distant rumbling)

(static buzzing)
(electronics beeping)

- Amazing, isn't he?

- How is this possible?

- [Ignus] Just what do
you think we do here?

- Grow trees.

- Not anymore,

but we still have one
hell of a pumpkin patch.

- And a lot of genetic research.

- And patents, that's
where the real money is.

- We have the rights to a lot
of things that people want?

- We own the patents to a lot of things

nobody ever wants to see let loose.

We get paid not to use them.

(static buzzing)

- But how?

Why do this?

- Your husband had an interesting approach

to lowering the cost
of paying a workforce.

- Clones?

- They were never born.

They don't technically exist.

Keep them fed, they don't complain.

With all the guys walking
around the woods with masks

and hoods on, nobody got to
see what they look like anyway.

- So his entire workforce
was just clones of himself?

- Hardly.

His personality would hardly
work for a passive workforce.

- And some employees had
to be seen around town.

Mostly office staff and the guys who work

on the outer edges of the farm.

- Before we wake them, I
instill the thought patterns

we'd like them to exhibit.

We have a few models,

but right now the Brad
is the one that you need.

I have a few on standby for you.

- Well, let's get this started.

How long is it going to take?

- With the blanks already cloned

and cultivated to the right age,

I just have to upload the brain
engrams and he'll be ready.

This one's uploading right now.

He should be ready in about an hour.

- (scoffs) Don't you have a
faster computer or something?

- The destination speed
is slowing us down.

- Eh, same problem when he was alive.

- Well, here we go.

(soft grunting)

(tool clicking)
(ground cracking)

This could definitely take a while.

(tool clicking)

(machine buzzing)
(machine beeping)

(machine ringing)

- [Ignus] Ah, he's ready.

(gas escaping)

- So, let's see my beloved Brad . .

Hmm.

So tell me, what does he know?

- He should remember everything up

until a week or two before his death.

- Before my what?

- Ah, it's nothing.

- Brad, my love, how are you?

- Better since you went to Paris.

What brings your cheating, whoring,

soon to be my officially
ex-wife a*s back here?

(woman groans)

(g*n c*ck)

(g*n blasting)
(Brad groaning)

- What the hell did you just do?

- What, you said they're not real people.

He doesn't officially exist.

So what's the problem?

Clearly this model wasn't
going to work for us.

(Brad groaning)

- I guess I should upload
considerably less of his memories.

Can you remember a time
when he still liked you?

- [Brad] You b*tch.

- [Marty] Hang on, what are
we supposed to do with him?

- [Brad] She shot me.

- Oh.

(g*n blasting)

- I can't just leave 'em here.

I don't think they're part
of the pumpkin festival's

family-friendly decor.

(leaves crunching)

(soft grunting)

(Jack groaning)
(tool clicking)

- This thing is deeper than I thought.

(ground cracking)

It's much heavier than
I thought too. (grunts)

Woo!

Okay, I really think I
should break for lunch but...

(exhales) I'm afraid to
leave this thing unattended.

(tool clicking)

(fire crackling)

- You can't be too careful.

- You're quite sure that's
enough to dispose of the body?

- A laser grip to cut it up,

mulching blades to
liquefy it, an acid bath.

I think that's quite enough.

- And all that in one little contraption

no bigger than a refrigerator.

- We are well prepared
for our disposal needs.

- And what happens to the waste?

- Once a week it's taken
to the Gen Better landfill.

- (gasps) We have our own landfill!

- It's not ours yet.

- Well, you two are going to change that.

- I won't have another
one ready until morning.

- I'm going into town.

I'm going to shop.

I'm going to have dinner, and
I will be back in a few hours.

And I expect my husband to be
up on his feet when I return.

- Ma'am, you don't understand
the science behind this.

- I understand that you're
loading less memory.

So it shouldn't take as long.

Oh, and by the way.

Try to make him a little
bit more timid this time.

I'm sure that Brad had some sort

of a preset or something
for his employees.

Just use that, but make it believable.

- But...

- I'll be back in a few hours.

Do not disappoint me!

(knob rattling)

(door slamming)

- She does not understand
that science can't be rushed.

It's simply impossible to give her

what she wants in the time she's allowing.

- What you fail to understand
is that without her,

this whole company is going to be sold.

Your lab, your resources will be lost.

- My secrets?

- Won't be secrets anymore.

(leaves crunching)

(Sheriff groans)

- Well, you're impossibly heavy.

So there's real people in there.

(Sheriff sighs)

I'm gonna need help.

And I know just who's gonna
want your scary, ugly head.

(metal clanging)

(Jack sighs)

(metal clanging)

- God.

Now we're doing okay.
(pack tapping)

I gotta dig these things up.

These things up here
are giving me problems.

(grass crunching)

(branches cracking)

(hands slapping)

Huh.

I'll be.

This looks like it could be the one.

(Jack grunting)
(metal creaking)

(sand crackling)

Huh.

(zipper clattering)

Yup, this is the one all right.

(grass crunching)

- Huh.

- These are exactly what
I've been looking for.

- Good, can you take 'em now?

I'd like to get back to the office

before a cat runs up a tree
or some other emergency.

- Yeah, help me load 'em up into my car.

These are going to look
amazing on my porch.

- Good, you can take the
Jeep, I'll get it later.

- Okay.

- Something wrong?

Don't tell me you've changed your mind.

- No, just these clothes look familiar.

- Familiar.

Well, I'm sure somebody
dressed these things

out of a thrift store.

Maybe you donated it.

- That's probably it.

The guy I last saw wearing
something like this,

he used to shop at the thrift store a lot.

But I used to think he used to
buy only me stuff from there.

- Cheap b*stard!

- You really gonna keep that thing?

- Well, I figure I can
get it running again.

It's gotta be mine by salvage rights.

- How did it even get here?

- It was sucked underground
miles from here.

- Well, the trees and the vines
were all working together.

I mean, she was kidnapped from here

and dragged all the way back to that den.

- (sighs) Okay, no offense Jack,

but it feels really weird to be out here

in your yard this close to dark.

Can we wrap this up?

- These are all natural
trees, I assure you.

The Gen Better forest,
the trees just fell over.

They all withered and died.

- Still, it is a bit
weird to be back here.

I don't know how you can still live here.

- Nobody wanted to buy the place.

But I understand.

I just thought you might
want your stuff back.

With your IDs, things like that.

- How's Jen?

- She's doing all right, still recovering.

I guess, being in that den

for so long kind of
dehydrated her and stuff.

- Are you guys getting back together?

- Hey, are you gonna go
to that pumpkin festival?

- Probably, I mean, in this town,

it's gonna be the only
thing to do this week

besides that gala.

- Okay, we'll see you there.

- We'll see you there.

- Oh, is Sheila gonna be there?

I was just thinking we could have a sort

of survivors' reunion.

- Yeah, probably not.

I mean, last I heard she was out of town.

She's working for some
government agency in their lab,

and she's picked up a few new hobbies.

(g*n blasting)

(g*n blasting)
(b*ll*ts popping)

(cartridge clattering)

(phone beeping)

- [Sheila] Perfect.

(thrilling music)

(trunk clattering)

(body rustling)

(body thudding)

- What are these things,
stuffed with rocks?

(thrilling music)

(body dragging)
(shoes clacking)

(body thudding)

(woman sighing)

You get more and more lifelike
as the night goes on. (sighs)

It's shaping up to be a nice night.

(thrilling music)

(eerie humming)

(metal creaking)

Spooky.

(feet dragging)

(motor humming softly)

(thrilling music)

(grass crunching)

What the hell?

(sighs) Some kids whipped
up a Halloween prank, I bet.

(trunk slamming)

(dramatic music)

(woman screaming)

(crunching)

(door rattling)

(suspenseful music)

(feet dragging)

- Well, this is another
fine mess you got me into.

- How is this my fault?

- Bringing that, that woman into my lab!

- That woman is what's
keeping this company running

so you better keep her happy.

- This one'll be very compliant.

Exactly what we need.

- You better hope so.

(electricity crackling)

(static buzzing)

- No.

No!

Get it right this time
or I will have your head.

(guests chattering)

(sighs) I can only take this
pace for a little while.

(guests chattering)

Waiter!

More wine please!

(hand slapping)

This service is just terrible.

(thrilling music)

(door slamming)

(lock clattering)

(thrilling music)

- (sighs) Thank God you move so slow.

Thank God for hiding keys.

(panting)

They won't believe me anyway.

Sheriff, what the hell did you give me?

Just get over here and
take the thing back.

I don't want it.

No, I haven't been drinking.

I want this thing off
of my porch right now.

I think it's trying to k*ll me.

(knob rattling)

(thrilling music)

(legs crashing)

(knob rattling)

(door crashing)

(thrilling music)

- Unbelievable.

What are you smiling at?

- You're about the prettiest
thing I ever did see!

- This one might actually work.

- Do you like Dr. Who?
- Who?

- I've got all the action figures.

My dad picked up a bunch in England

at a store called Harrods.

They're neat!

- (whispers) How far back did you go?

- You asked for a more
malleable version of Brad.

We had to go back considerably far.

- How far?

- Well, um...

- We managed to find a
point past puberty that--

- Puberty?

Well, how far past puberty?

- You've got some really nice boobies!

- Oh!

I see, okay.

About minutes past puberty, awesome.

Well, nobody who knows Brad

would find that comment
to be all that strange.

We need to find a way
to k*ll him publicly,

and quickly with me by his side

before anybody gets a
chance to talk to him.

- There is the pumpkin
festival tomorrow night.

It's very public and it
will be crowded enough

that he can get away with a
little waving and smiling,

but no speaking.

- And paperwork?

- The paperwork, yes, we can
have him sign the new will

in front of a notary tomorrow afternoon.

Nobody will question the date

once they see him in
public tomorrow night.

- Good.

Can we make it one of
those mass sh**ting things?

You know, just to take
suspicion off of me?

- Sure.

- To sell that idea,

a lot of innocent people have to be shot.

Maybe even k*lled.

- Cost of doing business.

We do what has to be done.

(thrilling music)

(woman sighs)

(thrilling music)

(light switch clicking)

(thrilling music)

(knob creaking)

(curtains clattering)

(soft knocking)

(knob creaking)

(woman gasping)

(woman sighing)

(door creaking)

(dramatic music)

- Come on, come on.

Come on.

(thrilling music)

Please god, please.

(thrilling music)

(iron clicking)

Yes, yes. (sighs)

(beeping)

(thrilling music)

(curtains clattering)

Here's a hot tip for ya.

(pumpkin crunching)
(fire crackling)

You're around a witch
with a regular power move.

(smoke crackling)

You actually stopped to
rescue a kitten from a tree?

No, I've got it handled.

I'll meet you at the station.

What's going on?

Oh, pumpkin monster just
attacked me, but don't worry.

I melted his brain with
my favorite curling iron.

(sighs)

(thrilling music)

sh*t.

(creature growling)

(grass crunching)

(door slamming)
(woman sighing)

(creature growling)

(hand thudding)

- You think he's moving so slow
and then, boom, there he is.

(engine revving)

(engine revving)

- You are one unbelievable,

resilient dirty b*tch, aren't ya?

(hands clapping)
(Jack laughing)

(snoring softly)

(phone ringing loudly)

(sheriff exhaling)
(phone ringing)

- Sheriff's office.

- Sheriff, there is a k*ller at my house.

- Someone's been k*lled?

- Well, no, actually, maybe.

- Maybe?

- I don't know what's
happening everywhere in town.

That monster could have
k*lled somebody after I left.

- What is wrong with you?

Terry, my sister's child,
have you been drinking?

- Something tried to k*ll me tonight.

- Some thing?

- It tore my door down.

- Maniacs can be strong.

Adrenaline, that sort of thing.

- I stuck my curling
iron through his skull.

- Yeah, but it's close to Halloween.

It could have been somebody
in a Halloween mask.

- I know what I saw.

- It was probably just his mask.

Look...

I know you're scared (clears throat)

and I suspect you're drunk,

but what exactly are you talking about?

- Those discarded Halloween
decorations you gave me.

One of them turned up
to be a guy in a suit,

probably passed out from
drugs when you found him,

who woke up and attacked me.

- [Sheriff] We don't have
addicts in this town.

- Well, you've got something
and it tore my house apart.

- (sighs) I'll go check it out, calm down.

(Sherry sighs)

(suspenseful music)

- Sample shows no sign of life.

This is a good indication that the effects

of the gene modification did not continue

past its original planting.

Heart and harvest may be mobile.

(suspenseful music)

(glass clinking)

(dropper clinking)

(suspenseful music)

(microscope clicking)

Now examining Sample .

(suspenseful music)

Oh sh*t.

I better call Jack.

(suspenseful music)

(Jack chuckles)

- I can't believe I got a free Jeep.

Hey, sure it needs some
work, but free is free.

(trees rustling)

No, you're all natural
trees so it's not you.

(trees rustling)

(grass crunching)

(suspenseful music)

Maybe it's just a bear.

Hey bear, bear.

(trees rustling)

(suspenseful music)

(Jack groans)

Great, big, cuddly -pound bear with...

teeth and claws.

Anything's better than eating trees.

(suspenseful music)

(dog panting)

Ah, ah, you dopey mutt!

I almost clobbered you, you know that?

Yeah.

All right, come on, let's go in the house.

Come on, I'll make you a steak.

Come on, Lotus.

(sighs) I gotta fix
the hole in that fence.

Every pit in the neighborhood
gets into this yard somehow.

- Something really needs
to be done about this.

The sooner, the better.

(eerie oozing)
(distant tapping)

(mysterious music)

(liquid dripping)

(mysterious music)

(loud squishing)

(Sheila shouting)

(acid crackling)

(eerie crackling)

(Sheila shouting)
(body thudding)

(mysterious music)

(eerie crackling)

(eerie crackling)

(eerie crackling)

I definitely gotta call Jack.

(Jody coughing)

- Do you really want to go
to that pumpkin festival?

- Sure, why not?

- I just, I don't know.

I find just hanging around
this town unsettling.

The whole thing is just too weird.

- I get that.

And I'll admit, it was
a little strange being

surrounded by all those
trees earlier at Jack's,

but the rest of the
town is really adorable.

Plus, I like pumpkins.

(eerie organ music)

(hand smacking)
- Ah.

Bet they don't feed you
like that at home, huh?

(dog whining)

(phone ringing)

It's after o'clock at night.

Who's calling me after
o'clock at night?

(phone ringing)

Oh.

Hey Sheila, how are ya?

(sighs) What about the pumpkins?

(dog whining)

(mysterious music)

(suspenseful music)

(tires rumbling)

(door slamming)

(suspenseful music)

- Base, is it snowing in town?

(indistinct radio squeaking)

I didn't think so.
(radio beeping)

(indistinct muttering)

I bet this is the fertilizer.

(distant crashing)

(clicking)
(door slamming)

(branches rustling)
(creature growling)

(tongue sucking)

Big rabbits.

(creature growling)

(thrilling music)

(creature growling)

(creature spitting)

(Sheriff shouting)

(creature growling)

(g*n blasting)

(g*n blasting)
(creature groaning)

Some nut in a Halloween
mask just assaulted me.

Put out a call to state police

to be on the look out for a guy wearing a

scarecrow costume or something.

(radio beeping)

And tell the hospital to
report any g*nsh*t wounds.

I may have winged him.
(radio beeping)

(sheriff panting)

(radio beeping)

I think he hit me with a
water balloon or something.

- And it won't be pretty.

- You're saying this thing can spread?

- Like a parasite.

First, it will find a way to multiply,

which was part of the plan.

But then it will seek out mobile hosts

that will help spread itself.

- Not part of the plan?

- We thought maybe it would
just incubate in the bellies

of the animals that ate the seeds,

spread out more like a normal plant,

but with a longer viable period

due to the parasitic properties.

- Instead?

- It found a way to aggressively take

over the minds of the
creatures that it invades.

And after the attempted attack on me,

it seems it desires people as a host.

(eerie squishing)
(Sheila screaming)

- Are you okay?

Sheila, Sheila, what's going on?

- I'm fine.

Nothing a little science
can't get on top of.

(substance squishing)

- You think you'd be able to
make it out here to help out?

- I'm gonna want to
make a few stops first.

Need to find if there's
some weakness in this thing.

- All right, keep me updated?

- Of course.

Jack, be careful.

- Have you ever known
me to be any other way?

(sighs) All right, I'll talk to you soon.

(sighs) It looks like we
might have some excitement

around here for Halloween after all.

(dog whining)

(Jack sighs)

I just love excitement.

Plants, it's always plants.

You know, this is why I eat meat.

I don't want any angry plants.

(dog whining)

I got to move to a city.

Someplace with concrete.

Big buildings, a lot of
smog and it kills plants!

(Jack sighs)

(birds chirping)

(indistinct TV chattering)

- Well, this year we have a special song

for the festival and a
dance that goes like this.

(cheery music)

(Jack sighs)

- This festival gets sillier
and sillier every year.

(Jack sighs)

All right, honey, we better get you home.

Your owner's probably had enough time

to miss you and know you're gone,

and maybe learn to keep
a better eye on you, huh?

(dog whining)

(Jack chuckles)

All right, I guess we have
time to feed you one more time.

But then straight home, okay?

Come on.

(dog shaking)

- You sure are pretty.

- Oh, don't overdo it, sweetie.

We don't want the natives
getting suspicious

before we get the papers signed.

- I sure wish I knew what you were

talking about half the time.

- (chuckles) You sure don't.

Oh, here we go.

- I can't believe that's you.

- Do I know you?

- I sure hope not.

- No, but I know you.

- How's that?

- Well, the man who owns most of the town

tends to be a familiar face.

- Who?

- You, darling, don't be silly.

- Really?

Cool.

- How do I put this delicately?

I thought you, well...

I thought you...

- [Wife] You thought he was dead.

- Quite frankly, yes.

I mean, everyone does.

It was all over the news and the internet.

- Missing, and as you can see,

his memory's still a teensy bit spotty,

but I have my beloved Bradley back.

(Brad chuckles)

- She digs me.

- I can see that.

Who are you?

- I'm his wife.

- No, sh*t?

- I'm sorry.

I thought you were divorced.

- The internet again?

- [Terry] Yeah.

- Well, you can't believe everything

that you read on the internet.

- [Terry] I guess not.

- Well, if you'll excuse us.

We do have an appointment
to get some papers signed.

- [Terry] Oh, of course.

- Will I see you...

Will we see you later
at the festival tonight?

- I was planning on going.

- Well, good.

We'll see you there then.

- Me and my wife, we'll see you there!

- Come along, Brad.

We'll have some wine.

(shoes thudding)

(birds chirping)

- But they're not there.

I already had their friends
check the parks and the lake.

- I'm sure they're fine.

You know how kids get this time of year.

- There's something wrong.

I know it.

- Okay, I'll check around town.

I'll ask the folks at the
soda shop and the pizzeria

if they've seen him.

Okay, this isn't a
violent area, Mrs. Duffy.

It's not Tromaville.

- What, with the festival and
all of the out-of-towners.

I don't know what to think, sheriff.

- But we don't attract a bad crowd here.

- What about all those killings
at the tree farms last year?

- Some leftover wildlife.

A big animal that didn't move on

after the industry rolled in.

We haven't had anything like
that around here in forever.

Okay?

Now don't you worry.

We'll find them before the festival, okay?

- Okay.

I'd have that rash looked
at if I were you, Sheriff.

It looks like it could be
poison ivy or something.

- I'll get it looked at as soon

as I get a chance, Mrs. Duffy.

Thank you for coming in.

- [Mrs. Duffy] Thank you.

(people chattering)

- Hey, you're working late I see.

- Listen, I got this old SUV I dug up

maybe I'll bring it by, get it cleaned up.

- Yeah, we'll get it done.

- All right, we'll see ya.

(people chattering)

- You really need to get him
to the end of the street.

- We have a little bit more time left.

- The closer to the edge of
the freeway that we get him,

the less likely likely
there'll be collateral damage.

- You worry too much.

- I have a bit of a conscience

when it comes to women and children.

- And yet you are helping
me keep a company afloat

that has the potential to
destroy an entire planet

in less than years.

- Do we have some money?

- We have loads of it, dear.

- I need some to buy this nifty hat!

- Of course.

Just help me parade him
around a little bit.

I want to make sure
lots of people see him.

- From the description of
the person you saw earlier,

that's the sheriff's niece.

I think that's plenty.

- I like to hedge my bets.

- Do I look like I could pilot the t*rd?

(bird cawing)

- That's her.

The light-haired girl who's
fixated on the decorations.

- It's like they're multiplying.

(bird cawing)

These things are ugly.

(Terry gasps)

Did you see that, the thing moved!

(r*fle blasting)

- I'm here to sh**t people because, uh...

I hate pumpkins!

(r*fle blasting)

(blood squirting)
(woman screaming)

- Oh God, oh, oh!

(r*fle blasting)
(r*fle booming)

(ax whooshing)
(bone crunching)

(man groaning)

- Oh dear. (groans)

(body thudding)

(sighs)

- Who was that?

- That is...
- Jack Woods.

As I live and breathe.

- How you doing, Sheriff?

- That was a great throw.

- Thank you, I'm just glad
you were here to see it.

- Well, my being a
witness certainly does cut

down on the paperwork.

- Yeah, well.

You can use as little
paperwork as possible.

(woman screaming)
- Oh.

I better go see how she's
doing. (clears throat)

(Jack sighs)

- That was extraordinary.

- Thanks.

Do I know you?

- She's my wife!

- Hi, Brad?

- That's me!

What's with them?

- What's with you?

You're--
- Oh, I know.

It's the hat, right?

- I can tell your surprised.

We found him practically
dead from exposure

on the edge of the woods.

Here he is hale and
hearty, my one and only.

- Unbelievable.

- Yeah, that's the word all right.

(people chattering)

- I hate to break this up, Jack,

but I will need to get
some paperwork from you.

- (sighs) Of course, catch
you guys later, Brad.

- Sheriff, what about my report?

Did you not see those creatures?

One of them just got shot right
in the chest and walked off.

- I did recognize the
clothing on two of them.

Their mom is worried sick about them,

but nobody gets shot in the
chest and just walks off.

So I'll catch those pranking kids

after I fill out the
paperwork on this sh**ting,

if you don't mind.

Let's go, Jack.

Probably make national news with this.

(people chattering)

- Mention to them about how
you saved the whole damn town.

Trees, oh trees.

- Well, that didn't go as planned.

- National news.

Nobody's gonna be able to
deny that he was still alive

after the video from
people's phones goes public.

- But he is still alive.
- We'd like to see him.

- That man, the one with the hatchet.

He seemed to recognize Brad.

- He used to work for Brad.

He was with him when he originally died.

- An employee.

- A former employee.

- Do we have a sample of his DNA?

- Maybe.

- Call Ignus, have him meet us at the lab.

Brad, we have to go home now.

- Oh, but I'm having fun.

- Maybe we can come back tomorrow.

- Oh.

Oh, okay.

You can get a hat just like this

at that tent over there. (laughs)

(cheery rock music)

(people chattering)

- You really need to get that looked at,

and stop scratching it.

You'll spread it.

- Spread it?

It's just whatever fake
blood those pranksters used.

- Pranksters?

Are you allergic to corn syrup?

Food dye, pumpkins?

- What are you getting at?

- I'm just trying to point
out that if it's itchy

and you're not allergic to it,
it's probably not fake blood.

You've got a rash.

- I can't believe the show was canceled.

After all that hard work.

(people chattering)

Everybody's so disappointed.

- Attempted m*rder and mayhem
can put a damper on things.

- Well, that's the chorus line back there.

But I know we were
preempted for a good reason.

But I was wondering if maybe
we could set up tomorrow

for the banquet, and maybe
since you know the organizers...

- Yeah, I can ask.

(people chattering)

- You wanna join us?

- In a minute.

(sighs) If they say yes,
you'll dance at the gala?

- [Woman] Nothing will stop us.

(people chattering)

(suspenseful music)

- Is that it?

- Yes, but I'm not sure
you understand the process.

It would take weeks maybe months

to grow a clone from a sample like this.

If we could do it at all.

- No, we don't have that kind of time.

This idiot is bound to
slip up before then.

- Who now?

- So simple. (sighs)

People, we don't have to grow a clone.

All we need is a sample.

Is that a hair?

Fine.

Then that won't be at all
unusual to find at a crime scene.

- A crime scene?

- Brad, darling, come here a moment.

- That sounds funny.

You sure are pretty.

Wanna ditch these two
stiffs and go make out?

- Oh, I'm gonna miss this
sweet horny version of you.

- What do you mean?

(suspenseful music)

Oh, I see.

(suspenseful music)

- No!

(ax whooshing)
(neck crunching)

- He's right, the plastic
does make a funny sound.

Not a speck of blood,
how's that for a swing?

You get the idea now?

- Clearly.

- Good, make sure he's found by morning.

- We'll take care of it.

Nice touch with the ax.

Exactly what a crazy
mountain man would use.

(shoes crunching)

(door rattling)
(door slamming)

(suspenseful music)

- I can't believe the nerve.

- We have to find a backdoor.

(suspenseful music)

(thrilling music)
(creatures growling)

(light whooshing)
(creatures growling)

(thrilling music)
(creatures growling)

(pumpkin crunching)

(creature growling)

(pumpkin crunching)
(woman screaming)

(creature growling)

(chair rattling)
(creature growling)

(man screaming)
(pumpkin crunching)

(thrilling music)

(eerie screaming)
(body crashing)

(flesh crunching)

(woman screaming)

(dramatic music)
(woman screaming)

(body crashing)

(creature growling)

(creature growling)

(fast-paced grunting)

- [Woman] Why didn't they attack me?

I mean, you were hiding,
but I was right here.

Strange.

- (sighs) Thank you.

That looks uncomfortable.

- Mrs. Duffy was right.

Scratching it is spreading it.

- Do you think it's catchy?

Yeah, just to be safe, if you don't mind.

(sheriff laughs)

(phone ringing)

- Sheriff's Office, what's your emergency?

- Sheriff, you've got to
come to the soda shop now.

Those things are here.

From the looks of it, it's gonna
be a lot more of them soon.

- You will just not let this
monster thing go, will you?

I'll be right there,
hang out somewhere safe.

- Do you want me to go with you?

- I'm sure I can handle it.

You know, it's like those
clown monsters all over again.

God.
- They're not pranksters.

- You stay here, Jack.

Calm down my hysterical niece.

- I am not hysterical.
- I know!

- [Terry] There are
real monsters out there.

- I know.

- Are you gonna do anything about it?

- Probably!
(clipboard rattling)

Tell me everything you saw.

(cheery carnival music)

- [Sheriff] Tell me more.

- There must've been about a dozen of them

by the time they left.

- More left than came in?

- Yeah, they were smashing
these huge pumpkins

on the dance team's head?

- [Terry] And blam!

Everyone suddenly became like zombified

and just shuffled on out of there

after the original pumpkin that came in.

- Great, so they're multiplying.

- [Terry] I guess so.

- (sighs) I can't sit
around here all night then.

(sighs) When you see the sheriff,

tell her I'll finish
the paperwork tomorrow.

- [Terry] Where are you going?

- Pumpkin picking.

- You have a rash on your face there?

- Mm-hm.
- Is it spreading?

- A bit.

- Know where you got it?

(cheery music)

(Sheriff clears throat)

- You're right, pumpkins are mobile.

- Of course, I'm right.

Jack, if you remember,

you're the one that jumps
to conclusions, not me.

- [Jack] Are you driving?

- [Sheila] I'm dropping
off some samples at work.

Maybe picking up something.

- Oh good, you're out and about.

I was afraid you might be asleep.

You know, time difference and all.

- (laughs) Jack, I'm not that far away.

I'll be in town by tonight.

I just need to check something out.

- [Jack] Me too, that's why I'm driving up

to the Gen Better pumpkin patch.

- Be careful.
- All right.

You hurry up.

- Will do, see you soon.

(thrilling music)
(motor humming)

(door slamming)

(ominous music)

(grass crunching)

(suspenseful music)

(Jack sighs)

- Well, this is all very familiar.

Where are the pumpkins?

Says it's a pumpkin patch.

This time of year, should
be full of pumpkins.

(Jack sighs)

Maybe they've already been picked.

Somebody's been here.

Don't look like they did
too well, though. (sighs)

(grass crunching)

(bird cawing)

Very familiar indeed.

(vine whooshing)

(suspenseful music)

(Jack groans)
(body crashes)

(suspenseful music)

(knife clicks)

(plant crunching)
(cawing)

(hands slapping)

(leaves rustling)
(creature growling)

sh*t!

(creature growling)
(suspenseful music)

(creature grunting)

(p*stol blasting)
(creature cawing)

- That was strange.

(Jack grunts)

(Jack chuckles)

(Jack grunts)

(Jack sighs)

- Thank you.
(hands slapping)

Thank you, that was excellent timing.

- Glad to help.

You're under arrest for m*rder.

(handcuffs clicking)

(Jack sighs)

Come on.

- It's a little light for
a m*rder charge, isn't it?

(Sheriff clears throat)

- Where did you go when you
left my office yesterday?

- I was right where you found me.

- Trespassing on Gen Better land.

- Well, I mean all the
property around here,

the roads and everything are public.

Somebody could argue that I got lost.

- You might want to take
the trespassing charges,

as I got a witness puts you
at Brad's mansion last night.

- I haven't been there in years.

- Did anyone see you
leave my office yesterday?

- Well, no, I mean, it was nighttime.

I was driving dirt roads all night

looking for pumpkin patches.

- Why?

- [Jack] Because of what
happened at the soda shop

among other things.

- (clears throat) Well...

Brad is dead, again.

This time found, in two pieces.

His head was taken off by an ax.

(Jack sighs)

- That does sound like me.

- And with a witness putting you there.

- But I wasn't there!

- I believe you.

That's why the house arrest.

Until we can find more evidence,

I got to keep you here until
we can break their story.

- Why all the trust?

- I saw you driving that
beat up old car yesterday

and again this morning.

- So?

- So the witness describes
a newer gray SUV.

- I sold that car like three months ago.

- To my goddaughter.

- [Jack] Oh yeah, how's she liking it?

- It gets good gas mileage.

She put some crazy stereo in it.

Any who.

I don't see her working as a wheelman

for your m*rder mission,

so until we can get more
evidence, I need to keep you here.

- Well, I appreciate that.

- Just trying to serve justice.

Oh, don't wander too far.

That thing will beep and signal
me if you try to run away.

And if you don't come back,

it's gonna shock you every few minutes.

- For how long?

- Until you come back,
or the battery goes dead.

(grass crunching)

(crickets chirping)
(grass crunching)

- Hey, those are cute.

- Ew, I think those are creepy.

- Not as creepy as weird, not dead, Brad.

- Yeah, and what about his wife?

She was super intense.

- Yeah she was.

- I should call Jack.

(shoes clacking)
(insects chirping)

- So this is all mine now.

- It sure is.

- Ours.
- Mine!

But don't worry.

I don't plan to make any
changes to your work situation.

You're making me plenty of money.

You can keep on doing
your mad scientist thing.

- Initial here.

Sign here and date it.

And this with the new
will, and we're all set.

Are you going to the gala tonight?

- I'm in mourning.

- Oh, that's right.

- Oh, I'm going to go cry in Paris.

Au revoir, b*tches.

- Are you going to the gala tonight,

or are you going to work late?

- Of course.

- Of course.

- [Man] Real simulator now acting.

Please be sure to use
proper eye protection.

Thank you.

- Perhaps a little fluid sample.

(bones crunching)
(man groaning)

(creature growling)

- Huh, this isn't what I expected.

- I can use a little help here.

(g*n blasting)

Resilient beastie.

(paper rustling)

(acid sizzling)
(flame crackling)

- Acid?

- A patented Gen Better herbicide.

Perfectly safe for use around humans.

- I'll need all of that you have.

- I can't do that.

I'll help you take it out to your car.

- So what's back here?

- [Ignus] Storage room.

- Ah, I'm gonna need one of those too.

(trees booming)

(phone ringing)

- No, I don't think I'll be
going to the gala tonight.

Thanks to some jewelry that
the sheriff decided to give me.

No, no, I'll just be in
watching Halloween movies.

What kind of decorations?

Pumpkin people?

Get out of there, get
out of there right now.

(woman screaming)

Hello?

Hello? (sighs)

Come on, sheriff, pick up.

Pick up.

Come on, come on, come on.
(fingers snapping)

I don't want to talk to
your answering machine.

Come on, sheriff.

(Jack sighs)

I wonder if I can get my
boots back on over this thing.

(creature slurping)

(machine humming)
(machine clicking)

- What are you staring at?

- Nothing, it's just that.

Well, not everyone looks that
good in a radiation suit.

- Don't get any ideas, doc.

(machine humming)
(machine clicking)

That ready yet?

- It's not microwave popcorn,
this is a long process.

- But the radiation
will speed it up, right?

- Sure.

(machine humming)
(machine clicking)

To be honest, I had the
unit installed months ago,

and haven't had a reason to use it yet.

- Oh.

(sighs) Oh, for Pete's sake.

(air hissing)

Thanks, doc.
(fist smashing)

(body thudding)

Come on, I've got some
people I want you to meet.

Pick that up, follow me.

(Jack sighs)
(door creaking)

- I hope they didn't
get themselves k*lled.

(bracelet buzzing)

(sighs) I kind of wish I had rubber socks.

(creature roaring)

Lotus, I mean, I don't have
time to play right now.

I've got to, okay.

(Jack chuckles)

(ominous music)

Ah, that's not good.

(grass crunching)

Use the other gate.

(ominous music)

(dog growling)

(hard rock music)

(Jack sighs)

(dog growling)

(creature roaring)

(Jack grunts)
(ax whooshes)

(ax whooshing)
(pumpkins crunching)

Why do you want to always kick my ba*ls?

(ax thudding)
(creature groaning)

(Jack grunting)
(ax thudding)

(Jack sighs)

Lotus.

Look, where'd you go?

(creature growling)

What the, Jesus.

(Jack grunting)
(pumpkin smashing)

Lotus, can we please go in the house?

(leaves crunching)

Thanks for the help, come on, house.

You go on and wait in there.

I'll make you a steak when I get home.

(door creaking)
(door slamming)

Should be safe from the creatures,
any more of them around.

I've got a party to go to.

(ominous music)

(woman whimpering)

(creature trilling)
(ominous music)

(creature trilling)

(phone ringing)

- [Sheriff] Hello, you've
reached the Sheriff's office.

Please leave a message and I'll
respond as soon as possible.

If this is an emergency,
please dial the state police.

(machine beeping)

- [Jack] Sheriff, I know what's going on.

I mean, I think I do anyway.

Why the pumpkins keep showing up at night.

I just got attacked by a
bunch of them in my yard.

Anyway, pumpkins, the actual plant,

the flowers open in reaction to the sun.

I think the pumpkin people
sleep during the day

so that they can drink in the sunlight.

You know, photosynthesis,
build their energy up.

And then when the moon comes out,

it triggers them to wake up.

Anyway, I've got some friends at the gala

and it sounds like they're in trouble.

I'm going to head over there now.

If you can't meet me there,

at least you could follow
this stupid bracelet

that keeps shocking my ankle.

(machine clicking)

(creatures trilling)
(ominous music)

(creatures trilling)

(creatures grunting)

(women screaming)
(playful music)

(women grunting)

(women screaming)

(creatures growling)

(distant crashing)

(wipers scratching)
(motor humming)

- You ride?

(motor humming)

(door slamming)

- Oh my god, is that ankle
bracelet shocking you?

- Yes.
(bracelet buzzing)

- Oh, doesn't it hurt?

- Very much.

(bracelet buzzing)
(Jack groaning)

- In.
- Either way, even more.

(doors slamming)

- How come you always get to drive?

- Do you want to drive?

- No offense, but the last
time you drove this car,

it got eaten!

(electricity crackling)
(creature growling)

Fine, but next time I'm driving.

- Okay.

(motor humming)
(tires screeching)

- I hate rental cars, they
should come with instructions.

Hello?

(feet pattering)

Do you know anything about American cars?

If it's not German, I
don't usually drive it.

(door slamming)

(motor humming)

Oh.

Yeah, okay.

I guess I can give you a ride, whatever.

This is gonna be fun.

(creature growling)

- Was that the sheriff?

I better follow them, they're
probably up to something.

- Uh, it's no use.

This is locked so tight.

(Jack sighs)

- Jack, your garage is a treasure trove

of zombie pumpkin-k*lling gear.

(objects rattling)
(hands clapping)

- Yeah.
- Any luck?

- No, but how bad can it be?

I mean, it's gotta be out of juice by now.

- Oh, I don't much want to fight in this.

- There's an old trunk in the garage.

You might find something to wear in there.

- Jill's old clothes.

- Mine from when I was .

- Oh, great.

I always wanted you to know
what I'd look like in flannel.

- Hot!

- Yes.

- If you're going into town,

you should think about a disguise.

You're still wanted for m*rder.

- I'm more concerned with
what the Sheriff's been up to.

- What do you mean?

- Well, she can track me on this thing.

I mean, when I came to
get you guys at the gala,

why didn't she show up?

(phone ringing)

Hello?

Yup.

Uh huh.

Yeah, I know where that is.

Okay, great, we'll meet you there.

That was Sheila.

She says she has a friend
with a place in the mountains.

Nobody knows where it is.

We can lay low there.

- Great, you put on a
disguise and we'll get going.

- Wait, one more phone call.

(creature growling)

(phone ringing)

- Hello?

Yeah.

I've got that crazy file thing
that you wanted for the Jeep.

(creature growling)

You want to come get it tonight.

Jack, if you can get in my garage tonight,

I'll give it to you for free.

(creature growling)

(door rattling)

(creature growling)

- I thought you said nobody
knew about this place.

- Again, I didn't tell
anyone about this place.

This is why I usually leave work

and then I didn't what I'd
like to know about them.

(creature growling)

- Then how did they find us?

- They must have followed your car.

- My car?

The one hidden in the bushes a mile away?

- We better get inside
and lock this place up.

- I better call Jack and let
him know about the trouble.

- Well, you won't get a
signal from down here.

(creatures growling)
(leaves crunching)

(creatures growling)

- Ow!

- I thought you were getting a disguise.

- This is it.

- I mocked up this whole outfit,

complete with razorblades
to cut any pumpkins they try

to put on my head and you shaved?

- Nobody in this town has
ever seen me without a beard.

- I thought you moved
here when you were a kid.

- I was .

(blinds clatter)

- Oh my God.

That's it?

That's your disguise?

- Yeah, it's gonna protect me

against pumpkin brain invaders.

(fist knocking)

- Hi.

- Hey, plus it's got all
kinds of stuff in the pockets.

Neat stuff.

I can't wait to show Jack my costume.

- You know, those are
probably like years old.

- Do I know you?

- Oh my god, it's a crazy house.

- Told you it would work.

She didn't think this would work.

- Oh my God, what?

- I wonder what they're up to.

(bells ringing)
(man laughing)

(creature roaring)

Would you turn that off?

- Relax, they're not interested in us.

(Sheila sighing)
(creature growling)

- Well, they weren't.

(suspenseful music)

(vine whooshing)

- Looks like there's some
women in trouble out there.

- We've got problems of our own.

(creature growling)

- That's a big one.

- Do you have any more a*mo in his place?

(objects clattering)

Or a big g*n?

Come on, Jack, where are you?

past those pumpkins now.

One or two shots to the head
brought the rest of them down.

- Maybe he's too stupid to know he's dead.

- That doesn't make any sense.

- [Brad] You're going to box a pumpkin

and your talking to me about making sense?

(fists smashing)
(Sheila grunting)

Is this important?

- Yes, spray it! (grunts)

- Oh, look at my shoes! (sighs)

- Uh, yeah, yeah, girl.

- Thank you.

- Why, what are you gonna do?

(Michelle grunting)
(pumpkin crunching)

- Jack, I think that's a
b*mb, a really bad b*mb.

- What exactly is a bad b*mb?

- Aren't all bombs bad?

- The orange liquid in the bottles

is what makes the orange

If that b*mb goes,
everybody in three counties

will be infected by tomorrow afternoon.

- Wow.

- That is an exceptionally bad b*mb.

a bad sequel! (groans)

- Is it too late for that?

feeding on their brains.

after they got hit by them.
