04x37 - Ring Masters

Post by bunniefuu »

male narrator: As they continue
their trek to the Johto Gym

in Olivine City,

our heroes find themselves
passing through

an intriguing little village.

- What's this?

- It's an intriguing
little village, Misty.

- Feraligatr.

- Pika?

- Guys, look up there.

- Pokémon.

- Feraligatr.

- Great.
They're having a big battle.

- Isn't that blue
one a Feraligatr?

- Feraligatr.

Feraligatr.

- Next, go.

- [singing]
Pokémon, Pokémon, Pokémon

- Let's do it.

I wanna be the very best

Like no one ever was

Ever was, ever was

To catch them is my real test

To train them is my cause

My whole life has led to this

Time to test my skills

I know I just can't miss

Gonna show the world

Born to be a winner

- Johto

- Born to be a champion

Born to be a winner

Born to be the very best

- Pokémon
- Johto

- Born to be a winner

Pokémon

- Heracross.

- Feraligatr.

- Way cool.

- That guy must be using all
different Pokémon

to help train his Feraligatr.

- Feraligatr.
The Big Jaw Pokémon.

The final evolution
of Totodile.

Once a Feraligatr has
clamped its powerful jaws

around an opponent, it won't
let go until the opponent

is defeated.

- That's the kind
of Pokémon we like on our side.

Right, Pikachu?

- Pika

- Feraligatr.

- Did you see that, Brock?

That's the fifth one.

Feraligatr's awesome.

- Togepi.

- It's really got
power to spare.

Even after all those battles,

Feraligatr still looks ready
for more.

- Granbull.

- Feraligatr.

- Now throw it
down Feraligatr.

- Very impressive.
Very impressive indeed.

- Feraligatr.

Gatr.

- Feraligatr won again.

- Yeah, easy.

- Nice work.
Let's take a little break.

- Your Feraligatr has
gotten much stronger, Raiden.

- You just mark my words,
Shonosuke,

this year we're going to win
the King's Rock.

- What is a King's Rock?

- I guess they must have the
Pokémon here do Sumo wrestling.

- It's a...
water Pokémon.

- Misty.

- Hey what're you doing here?

- Who're you?

In this town, the Pokémon
battles are a little different.

Almost all of the trainers
here are into Sumo wrestling

and that's what we train
our Pokémon to compete in.

By the way my name's Raiden,
and this is Shonosuke,

the executive director
of the Pokémon Sumo Society.

- That's impressive.

- It's only a title, son.

- Maybe we should go.

They probably still have lots
of training to do.

- Stay.

We don't mind an audience.

Feraligatr.
Workout time.

- Feraligatr.

Fer-ali-gatr.

- [gasps]

- It's amazing.
- Yeah.

Come on out, Totodile.

[chattering]

Totodile, someday that's
what you're gonna look like

when you evolve.

- Totodile.

- You and your friends
are in luck,

the conference begins today.

- What conference is that?

- Well, you've heard of

the Pokémon Sumo Conference,
haven't you?

That's the event that Feraligatr
is training to compete in.

- What exactly
is Pokémon Sumo?

- Togepi.

- It's a traditional
wrestling match in which

two Pokémon must battle each
other using

only their physical strength

without relying on
any of the usual attacks.

- That must be awesome.

- It is.

The "no attack" rule makes
things much more interesting

because the trainer and his
Pokémon have to work

that much closer and harder.

- Raiden and his Feraligatr
are expected

to be the winners of
the Sumo conference this year.

- Sounds interesting.

Maybe we could hang around
and see the matches.

- What do you mean?

I don't want to see them.

If they're havin' Pokémon
matches, I wanna be in them.

- Pi?

- But you've never been
in a Sumo match.

Are you sure about this?

- Sure, I'm sure, Misty.

As long as it's a Pokémon match,
I can win it.

- He reminds me of me.

When I first came here,
I was headed

for the Johto League too,

but then I got so into Sumo
wrestling, and I never left.

- Come on,
let's get started.

You guys can practice
for the match together.

- Pika.

- Totodile.

- I'm sorry, Ash,

but I'm afraid neither
Pikachu nor Totodile

may enter the Sumo Conference.

- Why? Are we too late?

- No, any Pokémon may
compete in the matches,

as long as it's heavy.

- Heavy?

- What?

You want me to transfer your
Snorlax to you immediately?

- That's right,
Professor Oak.

You gotta send me Snorlax
right away.

- Well what's the big rush,
and why Snorlax?

- I wanna compete in this
Pokémon Sumo Conference

they have here,

but they have a weight rule,
and in order to enter

a Pokémon, it's gotta weigh
at least kilograms.

- Ash doesn't have any Pokémon
with him who weigh that much.

That's why he needs
his Snorlax.

- Now I see.
Pokémon Sumo, eh?

Well, I'll transfer Snorlax
if you like,

but you have six Pokémon.

You'll have to select one
and send it back here.

- Yeah, that's right.

- I've got an idea.

As I recall,
you captured a Noctowl

with unusually rare coloring.

I'd surely love to observe
that one for a while.

- You got it, Professor.

Bye, Noctowl.

Be good for
Professor Oak and and Tracey.

Okay?

- If your Pokémon has
completed the official

weigh-in, please move
to the waiting room.

If not, please step up
to the scale.

- We're next, Nurse Joy.

- Oh, yes, Miss Jessiyaki
and Mr. Jamisosoupi.

What Pokémon will
you be entering?

- Our toughest competitor.

- Milky.

- Perfect.

It's at exactly the
correct fighting weight.

Your Pokémon's approved
to participate,

but I must say
it's very unusual.

- Wobb.

- Quiet you.

You're supposed to be
a Miltank remember?

- Try not to have
a cow, Jessie.

- That was close.

- Jessie, I don't see why
you wanted to enter

this thing in the first place.

- We entered to
win it, James.

- We know that, but why?

- I want to be a winner
for a change.

I'm tired of always
being on the losing end

of everything we try.

Don't you understand what
it means to have pride

and self-respect
and a sense of worth

and value and dignity?

- I used to,
before I met you.

- Jessie, how are we supposed
to win a Sumo match

with a lightweight
like Wobbuffet?

- You don't think I'd enter
without having a trick

up my rather large sleeve,
do you?

Wobbuffet's the centerpiece
of a secret strategy

that can't fail.

- Snorlax, I choose you.

all: AH!

- [snoring]

- I'm sorry.

- Well, the scale's smashed,
so I guess that means

Snorlax made
the weight minimum.

That means you're approved.

- Thanks, Nurse Joy.
That's great.

- [snoring]

- Welcome to the th Annual
Pokémon Sumo Conference.

As always, we have
a heavyweight roster

of contenders ready
for wrestling action.

But only one will
walk away the winner.

- The opening ceremonies
have already started.

- Yeah, I know, but that
doesn't seem to bother Snorlax.

- As always,
the victorious team will win

the coveted King's Rock.

In addition, the winners
will also receive

a one-year supply
of Pokémon food.

- Snorlax.

[screams]

- Hey, you're awake.

- Snorlax.

- I wonder what made Snorlax
decide to get up

all of a sudden.

- I bet it was that
one-year food supply.

- Losing Pokémon
will be eliminated,

and winners will advance
until the last two

winning opponents face
each other for the Crown.

Good luck to all,
and may the best Pokémon win.

- Hey, hi.

- Ash, I see your
Snorlax came through.

- Big Pokémon.

- Pika.

- They should be; most of
the Pokémon who compete here

are bred exclusively
for Sumo wrestling.

- They all look big,
but your Feraligatr

looks stronger than the rest.

- Maybe so,
but take a look down there.

Everybody says that's
the Pokémon to beat this year.

- The Blastoise?

I'd hate to get caught
between those two.

- Pika.

- We are now ready for
the first Sumo match to begin.

- From the East.

Ursaring.

From the West.

Miltank.

- Hey, guys,
that Miltank has kind of

a weird-looking face.

Don't you think?

- Jessiyaki.

- Don't forget about your
secret strategy move.

- Face your opponent.

Let the match...
begin.

- Push it out, Ursaring.

[roars]

- Miltank, you
know what to do.

- Counter?

- Oh, no.
It's over.

- Excellent.

Just like we practiced,
Miltank.

- We won.

The secret strategy worked,
and it's gonna take

us all the way to
the winner's circle.

- Wobbuffet.

- Nice work.

- Miltank wins the match.

- I thought they
can't use attacks.

- Wait, hold it right there.

I lodge a protest.

- Protest?

- It rarely happens,

but whenever
the executive director

has doubts about a decision,

he can lodge a protest.

- The referee must not
have seen what I saw.

That Miltank most definitely
used a Counter Attack,

and according to the rules, that
Miltank is hereby disqualified.

- Disqualified?

I'm as qualified
as anybody else is.

What do you mean disqualified?

- Save your breath.

My decision is final.
Good-bye.

- How dare you
treat us this way?

Do you have any idea who you're
talking to, you old coot?

- I don't.
Why don't you tell me?

- Prepare for trouble
and stop your hassling.

- Because we're through
with Sumo wrassling.

- To protect the world
from devastation.

- To unite all peoples
within our nation.

- To denounce the evils
of truth and love.

- To extend our reach
to the stars above.

- Jessie.

- James.

- We're Team Rocket, blasting
off at the speed of light.

- Surrender now or prepare
to fight, fight, fight.

- Meowth, that's right.

- Wobbuffet.

[groans]

- A Wobbuffet?

- Those cheaters.

- Further proof
of your duplicity.

Have you no decency?

You've made a mockery
of the rules we abide by.

- Can it, Gramps.

Why should we always have
to play by the rules

if we don't have a chance of
winning without breaking them?

- It's discriminatory.

- Yeah, and it's unfair too.

- Now it's our turn.
- Haha.

- That's right.

Now we're gonna play
by our rules

and steal your Pokémon.

- Wobb.

- We've had enough of you.

Hydro Pump, Feraligatr.

- Gatr.

all: We're blasting off again.

- Wobbuffet.

- Great job, Raiden.

- That was cool.

- There's no room
in a Sumo ring for cheaters.

Anyone who would knowingly
break the rules

doesn't deserve to be here.

- My thoughts exactly.
Now on with the matches!

- Who's that Pokémon?

It's Ledyba!

- From the East,
Feraligatr.

From the West,
Golem.

- That Golem weighs a lot more
than Feraligatr.

It's gonna be tough to beat.

- Face your opponent...
and begin!

- Let's go, Feraligatr.

- Gatr.

- Go, Golem, get in there.

- Golem.

- Feraligatr.

- Power.

The team that can focus its
power will be victorious.

- Power's great.

But Golem's got
a weight advantage.

- Feraligatr,
hold Golem off.

- Let Golem get closer,
Feraligatr.

Feraligatr, strike now.

- Gatr.

[grunts]

- Feraligatr.

- I can't believe it.

- Feraligatr wins.

- That Golem weighs four
times as much as Feraligatr.

- How'd they do it?

- They used both their strengths
and their weaknesses.

That's just what
we've got to do.

[grunting]

- Participants ready?

- Give it everything
you've got, Snorlax.

There's a year of free Pokémon
food in this for you.

- Snor.

- Face your opponent...
and begin.

- Poliwrath, go for the gut.

- Don't give in, Snorlax.
Stand your ground.

- Poliwrath.

- No.

- Wrath.

- What happened?

- Snorlax wins the match.

- All right.

- Lax.

- Did you see what I saw?

- Poliwrath came on strong
with a lot of speed and power,

but I guess speed
and power can't match guts.

- Lax.

Snorlax.

- Snorlax,
get away from that food.

Return.

- Snorlax may be goofy,
but it gets the job done.

- This rookie's turning
out to be a real contender.

- Things could be worse,
and they will be.

- Hey.
- Huh?

- Look at these,

souvenir Poké prints.

- Why, James, this is it.
This is the key to our fortune.

- Huh?
- A Pokémon paw print?

- We'll make phony prints
and sell them to all

the thousands of Pokémon fans
at the wrestling match.

- Great.

- We make the fakes
and rake in the money.

- And not only that.

By posing as souvenir peddlers,
we can hang around the stadium.

Then as the wrestlers come out,
we'll steal them.

- The time has come for
the semi-final Sumo matches.

Feraligatr versus Blastoise
and Snorlax versus Machamp.

- Good luck, Raiden.
I hope we see you in the finals.

- Me too.

- From the East,
Feraligatr.

From the West,
Blastoise.

- Oh, wow.
This is the best match yet.

Who should I root for?

They're both big,
strong Water Pokémon.

- Wrestlers ready?

Face your opponent..
and begin.

- Let's go.
Charge it.

- C'mon, Blastoise,
let's win this.

- Gatr.

- Blast.

[grunting]

- Push it away.

- Feraligatr.
- Blast.

- Blastoise,
jump on it.

- Blast.

Blastoise.

- Hurry up.

- Dodge it,
Feraligatr.

- Feraligatr.

- Now's Raiden's chance.

- Feraligatr, go!

- Feraligatr.

- Blast.

- It almost went out.

- Blastoise,
pour it on.

- Blastoise.

- Wow, I never saw
Blastoise move like that.

- Blastoise.

- It's right at the line.

- Don't cross it, Feraligatr.

- Go, Blastoise.

- Blastoise.

- Palms together and twist.

- Gatr.

- Blastoise.

- That's it.
- Look out.

- Feraligatr.

- Blastoise is out.

Feraligatr wins.

- Hey, we did it again,
old buddy.

- Gatr.

- I never thought
they'd win that one.

- That was sweet.

- Hey, Snorlax,
it's our turn now.

- Lax.

- Machamp.

Machamp.

- Snorlax wins.

- I'm impressed, Ash.

You and Snorlax
have come a very long way,

but I came here to win this.

I can't go easy on you just
because you're a real nice kid.

- I don't want you to.

- You ought to be proud
of yourself, Ash.

You're the very first rookie
to ever make it

to the final match.

And now, this is it.

Make sure you both
give it your all.

- Yes, sir.

- From the East...
Feraligatr.

From the West...
Snorlax.

- You can do this,
Snorlax.

- Lax.

- Face your opponent...
begin.

- Get in there.
Grab it, Snorlax.

- Hang tough.

Knock it off balance,
Feraligatr.

- Gatr.

- Snorlax,
try to keep your balance.

- Lax.

- That's it, Snorlax.
- Throw it out.

- Snorlax, dodge.

- Gatr.
- Snorlax.

- Whoa.

- It can't be.

- It may not look fast, but
Snorlax can be pretty speedy

when it has to be.

- If you think that's speed,

wait till you see this,
my friend.

All right.
Show 'em, Feraligatr.

- Gatr.

Feraligatr.

- Snorlax.

- I think this match
could be over.

- Gatr.

- It's almost
out of the ring.

[grunting]

- Just a little bit further.
Push it as hard as you can.

- Gatr.

- Snorlax.

- Snorlax is gonna fall.

- Snorlax doesn't have the
strength to beat Feraligatr.

So I'll have to use
it's weakness.

All right.
I just hope this works.

Snorlax,
take a deep breath.

- Snorlax.

- What's it doing?

- Gatr?

Feraligatr.

- All right.

- I've never seen
a defensive move like that.

- Nice work, Snorlax.

Now we're back
in the match again.

- Snorlax.

- Maybe, Ash,
but not for long.

- We'll see about that,
Raiden.

- Feraligatr, go.

- You too, Snorlax.

- Feraligatr.

- Throw it out of the ring.

- Snorlax.

- Snorlax is in trouble.

- Snorlax, hang in there.

- Lax.

- This is it.

crash!

all: Ah!

- Hurry, Snorlax,
push it out of the ring.

- Lax.

- Feraligatr.

- Snorlax is our new champion.

- Yeah!

- Pika!
Pikachu.

- Hooray!

The young rookie
went all the way to the top.

- That was a great match.

- I'm so glad Ash won it.

Too bad Feraligatr
couldn't win too.

- Don't feel badly.
You were just great.

- Gatr.

- Thanks, Snorlax.

[laughing]

- Snor.

- And so in recognition
of his triumph

over Raiden and Feraligatr,

I hereby proclaim Ash Ketchum
and Snorlax

the winners of the th Annual
Pokémon Sumo Conference,

and it is my distinct honor
to present them with

the coveted King's Rock
as a symbol of their victory.

Congratulations to you,
Ash.

- Thank you very much, sir.

- Look at that.
The King's Rock.

Hooray!

- Pikachu.

- And don't forget
your other prize.

- A one-year supply
of Pokémon food.

[growls]

- [screams]

- Snorlax, take it easy.

[groaning]

[grunting]

- Snorlax sure likes to eat.

- Well, at least we won't
have to carry that food

around all year.

- Its stomach must be full,
so Snorlax should be out

for a while.

- Guess I'll send it back
to Professor Oak

and get Noctowl.

Sorry,
I'd like to keep you here,

but we can't afford to feed you.

- Ash.
- Huh?

- Congratulations
on your win.

- You were
a super-tough opponent.

- I hope you have
the same success

in all your
Johto League matches.

- Thank you.

narrator:
The sensational Snorlax

came away with the top prize

at Pokémon Sumo.

But will Ash be as successful

when he competes
in the Johto League?

We'll see.

Won't we?

- All the wrestling matches
must be over already.

- What'll we do
with all this junk?

- We'll wait till next year.

all: Looks like
Team Rocket messed up again.

- Let's do it.

[singing]
Born to be a winner
