It was so bad,
even the Muk stayed away.

But Grandmother still loved
this place,

so she decided to do something.

She dedicated her life
to studying the effects

of pollution on Pokémon.

And she told the world about
what she learned

in "A Spring
Without Pokémon."

- Please, Nurse Joy, could you

- I could sign my name,
but it wouldn't be authentic

if it's not
from my grandmother!

- Wow, now the water looks
just a clear as the kind

that comes in a bottle.

I wonder how it
got all cleaned up.

My mother was inspired by
my grandmother's work,

so she decided
to carry it further.

After a lot of work, she
managed to get the factories

and towns to stop
polluting the lake.

Then she was put in charge
of draining the toxic water,

cleaning the lake bed,
and refilling it.

- The Grimer and
Muk returned first.

But my mother kept working.

Soon the lake was crystal clear

and Water Pokémon
came here to live again.

So many came that she
decided to build the Lake Lucid

Pokémon Center
to take care of them.

And now I'm here trying to carry
on the family tradition!

I absolutely can't stand
the sight of those Pokémon!

I even love Bug Pokémon--

any kind of Pokémon
except those awful,

I wouldn't even touch
a Water Pokémon.

Unless I was wearing this
special protective suit.

The third generation Nurse Joy
of Lake Lucid

doesn't like Water Pokémon.

- I don't dislike them!

I hate them!

- For as long as I can remember,
I dreamed

about meeting Nurse Joy
from Lake Lucid.

Then I finally do,

and it's a nightmare.

- I really wish you wouldn't
feel that way, Misty.

I'm very happy to treat every
kind of Water Pokémon

who comes to the Center.

Just as long as I don't have
to touch them.

I can treat Water Pokémon

different kinds of injuries

and illnesses.

So over the years we've
developed a number

of different kinds of healing
water baths to treat them with.

- Wow.

No wonder they
get so healthy.

- As much as you love
Water Pokémon, even you have

trouble liking Gyarados,
don't you, Misty?

- Yeah. I guess so.

- Everybody has certain
Pokémon they like

and a certain Pokémon
they don't like.

And when it comes to
Gyarados, no way, Jose!

- I know.

- Gyarados have such large,
heavy heads

that it's quite common for them

to experience neck
and back problems.

- I get it.

So you have 'em
exercise to build up muscles

to support those big heads.

- That's right.

I've studied all kinds
of Water Pokémon,

and I've created special
treatments, special diets,

even special exercises

that help each one overcome
their illnesses and injuries.

I understand Water Pokémon.

And I'm going to write a book

so others
can understand them too.

- Well, I wish you luck.

But I think it's a
big waste of time.

- Why? What do you mean?

- How can a person
understand Water Pokémon

if she hates them so much that
she won't even touch one?

- I never allow my feelings
interfere with my work!

for me.

I'm finally here,

come near my Pokémon.

and believe me, I wish
I felt differently.

I didn't start out
hating Water Pokémon.

In fact, when I was a
little girl, I loved them.

But then one day on the lake,
everything changed.

My mother and I were out
in a little boat.

She was investigating
a sudden increase

in the Remoraid population.

There's a Remoraid!

- Remoraid!

- Hi, Remoraid.

Ah!

- Here, Joy!

Grab a hold of my hands,

and sobbing]

The Remoraid
were just playing,

but I didn't know that.

- Don't worry, honey.

Everything's all right.

- My mother was relieved,
but I wasn't.

- Just look at all the
Remoraid there are, honey!

That proves how much cleaner
the water's becoming.

- She was happy
seeing those Remoraid.

But I was terrified.

I'll never forget
that feeling.

the feeling of being
surrounded by fear.

The fear of Water Pokémon.

- See, Joy, the lake's
getting better!

And one day
you'll grow up like me

and you'll make Lucid Lake even
prettier, won't you?

- Yes.

I did.

I grew up and continued
the work my mother

and grandmother started.

I may never be as
great as they were,

but I do the job the best I
can to honor both of them.

don't think doing a job you hate

honors anybody!

I love Lake Lucid,

and I'm able to treat all kinds
of sick and injured Pokémon.

than a chorus line,

and we get a kick out
of every single one!

- One for the money,
two for the show.

- We're gonna grab you
and never let go!

Thunderbolt Attack!

- Ha-ha! Your Thunderbolt has no
effect on our rubber Tentacruel!

- Then what's that
tingling sensation?

- Come to think of it, we did
just come out of the water.

- And doesn't water
conduct electricity?

- In a way,
I suppose so.

- Wobbuffet!

- We should be
wearing rubber too!

- That comes as a shock!

- Wobbuffet!

[blasting]

[computer beeping]

- Down the drain again!

- Wobba!

[glass shattering]

[water rushing]

- Oh, there goes my suit!

- We're too late.
It's gone!

Huh?

[crashing]

- Oh, no,
the Gyarados is out!

- Gyar!

- We have to do something before
it injures itself even more!

- Pikachu and
I'll handle this!

- Ash, it's too dangerous!

That Gyarados is confused
and it's in pain!

It might lash out
at a stranger!

- But we can't stand by.

We've got to do something!

- Gyarados is my responsibility.

- Hold on, Nurse Joy.

You can't do it!

- Leave this to us.
We'll handle it!

- I can't.

Neither of you has ever tried
to calm a Gyarados in pain.

You may be
great Pokémon trainers,

but neither of you
is a trained nurse.

- Well, that's true.

- That's why I have to be
the one to deal

with that Gyarados,
and so I will.

- But Nurse Joy,
you can't.

You won't be able to.

Your work suit
just got washed away,

and you'd have to touch Gyarados
with your bare hands.

- This is an emergency,

and nurses don't get to pick
and choose their patients.

It's a nurse's duty to heal
the sick whoever they may be!

I can't focus on how I feel

on the fact that I'm a nurse
like my grandmother

and my mother,

and no matter
what my feelings are,

and heal all Pokémon.
