male narrator:
Back en route to Mahogany Town
and the next Pokémon gym,
our heroes are taking good care
of the egg
that was given to Ash
by their friend Mr. Shelby.
- I wonder what type of Pokémon
is gonna hatch from it.
- Pika.
- I can't wait.
It's starting to drive me
a little crazy
waiting for that egg
to crack.
- Togepi.
- So, what type of Pokémon
are you hoping for, Ash?
- I want the strongest,
the coolest, the bravest,
and I don't know.
Any type will be fine
as long as it's healthy.
- Pika!
- Ash, you sound more like
a mother hen
than a Pokémon trainer.
- Yeah, I guess so.
I don't know how much longer
I can wait to see this.
- Well, what do you know?
The twerp has himself
a nifty, new Pokémon egg.
- What do you suppose
is inside of it?
- Bet you it'll be something
pretty terrific.
- It could even be
a legendary Pokémon.
- A legendary Pokémon?
- Like Articuno.
Maybe a Moltres.
Perhaps even a Zapdos.
all: Yay!
- Or maybe it's just
something to eat
with ham, bacon, or sausage
on the side.
- Huh?
- Wobbuffet.
- Whether it's a Pokémon
or breakfast,
we're going to steal
that thing.
- Ready!
- Yeah, and then
when we snatch up the egg,
the yolk will be on them.
- Wobbuffet.
- [singing]
Pokémon!
- No time to question
my moves
I stick to the path
that I choose
Me and my friends
are gonna do it right
You'll never see us
run away from a fight
To be a master
is my dream
All I've got to do
is believe
- I believe
- I've got a chance
to win
I'm on my way
to victory
- Pokémon!
- I can be a champion
If I just believe
I'm on a master quest
- Master quest
- I want the whole world
to see
- I believe
- I'm gonna be
the very best
'Cause all I've got to do
is believe in me
- Pokémon!
- Hey, the sky's starting
to look a little scary.
- It looks like there's
a Pokémon center
that's not too far ahead.
- Pika, Pika!
- Hey, Pikachu,
watch what you're doing
or we're gonna get hit.
- Quick, let's get out of here.
- Yeah.
- [groaning]
- Oh, we were one step away
from that egg.
- But with one bolt...
- We're the ones
that got fried.
- All right, we made it.
- Thank goodness.
- It must be just terrible
out there.
- How could anything
be terrible
when it's what brought me
to you?
- Huh?
- Okay, you're all wet, Brock.
- Not the ear.
- Well, then I guess I'll be
showing you to your rooms.
Here you are.
- Nurse Joy, thanks for letting
us stay here tonight.
- You won't believe it,
but you folks
are our only guests.
- Please make yourselves
at home.
- Thanks.
- Good night, guys.
all: Good night.
- Perfect.
- The kids are all tucked away
snug in their beds.
- Wobb--
- While visions of Wobbuffet
dance through their heads.
- On the other side of this door
lies the key...
- To our happiness,
so don't mess it up.
- You got it.
- [gasps]
- That was easy.
- Quiet...
- Like...
- A mouse!
- Wobbu--
- It's in there.
- Up you go.
- Ah.
- Hmm.
- And we will now separate
the egg from the twerps,
creating untold riches
for ourselves.
- Agreed.
- Agreed.
- How come I always
got to be the bait?
- Because you're so
alluring.
Get it?
- [hums]
Now you're all mine.
- Hey, it belongs
to all of us, Jessie.
- Well, I saw it first, James.
- You did not!
- We saw that thing
at the same time.
- That is not true.
I saw it . seconds
earlier than you.
- What are you talking about?
- It's my egg, or else...
- Stop it!
I told you I've already sworn
my love to somebody else.
- The boy appears to be dealing
with some issues.
- Togepi.
- But that was a close one,
so let's get out of here.
- Yeah, but let's make sure
we grab that egg first.
- That's right.
- Ah!
- The egg's gone.
- Wobbuffet.
- Wobbuffet?
- Where did that apple
come from?
- Looks mighty tasty.
- [ gulps]
- Maybe we should eat first
and steal later.
- Yeah!
- Now, point us to the fruit
and then scoot.
Huh?
[all exclaiming]
- You lunks are making
too much noise.
Quiet!
- Wobbu...
- Shh!
- Kangas...
Khan.
- Kangaskhan.
Kangaskhan.
- Kangaskhan.
Kangaskhan!
Kangas...
khan.
- Whoa. My egg's gotten huge.
It's giant size.
I wonder what it is.
All right!
It's cracking.
Huh?
Ah!
Ah! Where'd you go?
[gasps]
Man, what a dream.
That was so weird.
Eggs don't just disappear.
Huh?
[gasps]
Where'd it go, where'd it go,
where'd it go?
My egg's gone!
- Pika.
- What's up?
- I put the egg over there
and now it's gone.
- No way!
- I refuse to believe that your
love for me has grown cold.
- Brock, wake up.
- Everything okay?
I heard screaming.
- Nurse Joy,
the egg is gone.
- But how?
How could that happened?
- [siren blaring]
- Did you hear that?
- That's never a good sound.
- Wobbuffet.
- Okay, let's go.
- Right.
- [siren]
- [screams]
- Officer Jenny reporting.
Is this where
the theft occurred?
- If you mean you're stealing
away my heart, then yes.
- All right. It's more like
your brain's been stolen.
- Okay, tell me everything.
- Well, what happened was...
- Hmm. I understand.
- So you see, you just gotta
help get my egg back.
- Although you know me
as Officer Jenny,
I'm also the world famous
Detective Jenny.
Yup, yeah.
- Famous Detective Jenny?
- But how can you do both?
- It's easy for someone as
crafty and resourceful like me.
Now let's think
about that egg.
Yes.
- Did you think of something?
- I'm thinking of the important
case number
we need to have assigned.
And now we begin.
Number
in Detective Jenny's files.
"The Case of the Vanishing Egg
and the Fate of the Beautiful
Nurse Joy."
- Beautiful Nurse Joy?
- It's perfect!
- I don't know.
All I've heard so far
is a really long title.
- Hmm?
- Chansey.
- I'll bet you Chansey
can help us find the egg.
- Yeah, maybe one of the other
Chanseys took it by mistake.
- Brilliant!
I was just about to say
the very same thing.
Nurse Joy, bring me all
the Chanseys right away.
- Chancey.
- Chancey.
- I'm sorry, but none of these
Chanseys are holding Ash's egg.
- It looks like
solving this case
just isn't going to be
as easy as I'd hoped for.
- You make it look easy.
- There must be some obvious
clue that we somehow overlooked.
- Well, I can't wait anymore.
I'm gonna go look.
- That's a great idea.
- And that's exactly what
I was just about to suggest.
Growlithe, I choose you!
- [growls]
- Okay, Growlithe,
we're looking for a missing egg
that has Ash's scent on it.
- [barks]
- Huh?
Uh...
- Growlithe.
- It looks like Growlithe's
on to something.
Let's hurry.
- Hey, I wonder what happened.
Everyone left in such a hurry.
- So that would mean that
there's no one else left
in the Pokémon Center.
- It also means
that now's the time
to go in and grab that grub.
- Growlithe. Growlithe.
Growlithe.
Growlithe.
- It's only the case.
- I guess the thief must've
dropped the case here
and just kept running
with the egg.
- There are your criminals.
- Exeggcute. Exeggcute.
- Exeggcute?
- Exeggcute.
- That's right, there's a wild
Exeggcute nest around here.
- And they've stolen our egg.
- Exeggcute. Exeggcute.
- It looks like we were wrong.
- Guess so.
- I don't remember saying
that this case would be easy.
- No, you never did.
- Hey, maybe we should
go look through
all of the rooms
one more time.
- Okay.
- My thinking exactly.
The scene of a crime
always holds more
than what first meets the eye,
right?
- Will you marry me?
- Maybe they really are meant
for each other.
- Who's that Pokémon?
It's Blissey.
- Hmm, there's no sign of a
forced entry through the window.
And the door is securely
locked as well.
- Which means...
- Which means there's no way
anyone could have
broken in here.
- Togepi.
- Is that Togepi yours, Misty?
- Yes.
- And the missing egg
belongs to Ash?
- Yeah, that's right.
- It's all becoming
very clear.
- This egg-napper is Brock.
- Oh, Jenny, that's brilliant!
Huh?
- That's right, there's no way
that anyone else
could have gotten inside
of this sealed room.
- So by using deductive
reasoning,
since Ash is the victim,
the thief must be
one of you two.
both:
What? One of us?
- Here's the scenario:
one day, Brock was watching
Misty and Ash.
Misty with her Togepi,
and Ash with his
yet-unhatched egg.
Brock snapped.
"Why should I be the only one
without an egg?" he cried.
"Why, oh, why?" he whimpered
as he fell asleep.
Then the night of the crime,
Brock woke up and looked down
at Ash sleeping peacefully
while cradling his new egg,
and he became
more and more unhappy.
As Brock climbed down the ladder
from his bed,
he felt a jealousy unlike
any other he had felt before.
His mind raced with guilt.
"I can't do this.
I shouldn't do this.
But I can't help myself."
As if someone were controlling
his every move,
Brock snatched that innocent egg
from Ash's arms.
That poor egg.
And the shame.
Did you really
steal it, Brock?
- We really had no idea
that you were so lonely.
- I'm sorry.
I couldn't control myself.
Hey, what am I saying?
I didn't do it!
- Brock, you can finish
your confession downtown.
- Hey, wait, wait!
- Hold on, Brock wouldn't
do something like that.
- Yeah, he would never take
something away from me.
- I understand your feelings
toward Brock,
but try and see it my way.
- I'm stuffed.
Nothing like a full belly.
- A full belly
and a flat stomach.
- Life is good.
- Wobbuffet.
- Come along quietly, Brock.
- No! No!
- Hey, wait a minute.
Come and look at the marks
left here on this doorknob.
- Huh?
- You're right.
- Someone must have picked
the lock from the outside.
- I get it now.
- Huh?
- This is without a doubt
more of Brock's handiwork.
- My handiwork?
- Brock was trying
to show his innocence
by putting those marks there
himself,
making it appear that someone
else crept in from outside.
- [sobs]
I guess I really am
a criminal!
- Hold on.
Look at the outside doorknob
and you'll see the same
scratch marks as the other one.
- Yes.
These marks
are exactly the same.
So I guess there really was
an outside intruder.
- See? Then it couldn't
have been Brock.
- What a relief.
I'm not a criminal
after all!
- Now I'll crack this case
at no charge.
- After all of this,
I think we'll charge you.
- Jumpluff, let's go.
- Jumpluff.
- Wow, what's that?
- Jumpluff,
the Cottonweed Pokémon.
Jumpluff catches seasonal winds
to spread its cotton-like spores
and make offspring.
- Now, Jumpluff,
use your spores.
- Jumpluff.
- Look. Footprints.
- Our criminal's footprints
should appear in here as well.
- But there's no way
you can tell
when these footprints
were even made, is there?
- You're right, Ash.
That will be a problem.
- Do you know when this floor
was last cleaned, Nurse Joy?
- If I remember correctly
it was yesterday afternoon,
so no one but all of us
came in here since then.
- Well, that's perfect.
So any footprints
other than ours...
- Will lead us directly
to our criminal.
- That's great.
- An investigators job
isn't always glamorous.
- Take a good look at ours too,
Officer Jenny.
- Hmm. Hmm.
These footprints are all
on top of each other.
I can't tell which is which.
- Pika!
Pika, Pika.
- Those footprints
over there
are the closest ones to where
the egg was stolen.
- Yes, I thought those
footprints
looked pretty suspicious.
Aha.
And they're different
from all of your footprints.
- Then they must belong
to the thief.
- It looks like there
are two thieves.
They snuck up to this point,
swiped the egg and ran out.
- But those footprints
don't go all the way
to where the egg
was sitting, right?
- You know, I was just about
to say that too.
- Our thieves must have had
extremely long arms.
- Hmm.
Maybe they used a Pokémon
to do their stealing.
- Well, what could be used
to take things from far away?
- Hey, maybe they could have
used Vine Whip.
- That's it.
Anyone with a Pokémon
that uses Vine Whip
must be the thief.
- Vine Whip.
That would be, uh...
- A Bayleef.
- A Bayleef?
That's mine!
- Correct.
You are the criminal.
- No!
- How could Ash
be the criminal?
And what about
those strange footprints?
- Yes, you're right.
On to the hallway.
Jumpluff, throw your spores
here as well.
- Jumpluff.
- These are the paw prints
of a Suicune.
Yes.
- I think they look a little
too small for a Suicune.
- You're right.
Judging from the length
of each step, it's a Wooper.
- But I don't think Wooper
even have any paws.
- Hmm.
- So let's just follow
the footprints.
- Pika.
- That's it. I've got it.
- Huh?
Team Rocket.
- Did you hear something?
- The twerp patrol.
- They fell here and left
their face prints.
- And come to think of it,
Team Rocket has Victreebel,
and it can use Vine Whip.
- Well, as for myself,
I was sure it was Team Rocket
the whole time.
- Those footprints
head right for the kitchen.
- After stealing my egg
they probably ran in there
to steal some food.
- This is exactly
as I suspected.
Let's go.
- Hey, it won't open.
This door must be locked.
- But there isn't even a lock
on that door.
- Then we've no choice
but to break it down.
- Heave-h*!
- Thanks for dropping.
Bye.
- Hey!
- It's their footprints.
They're going into the forest.
- Yeah? Well, they're not
gonna get very far.
- Pika?
- It's Kangaskhan.
- Hey, look what's inside
Kangaskhan's pouch.
- It's Ash's egg.
- Hold up, Kangaskhan.
- Kangaskhan.
- That egg you have
belongs to me.
- Kangas?
Khan?
- Yeah, that egg.
It's mine.
That egg is mine.
- Pikachu.
Pika, Pika.
- Kangaskhan.
[sniffs]
[sniffs]
- Looks like it's sniffing Ash
to make sure it's his egg.
- Kangaskhan.
- Thanks a lot, Kangaskhan.
- I thought I'd never
see you again.
- Pika, Pika.
- But how do you think
Kangaskhan ended up with the egg
if Team Rocket stole it
in the first place?
- Hmm. Good question.
- Kangaskhan has strong
maternal instincts,
so maybe it was worried
about the egg.
- Okay, I know exactly
what happened.
Team Rocket fled the crime scene
with the egg in hand.
When, as they ran
through the woods,
they bumped right into
our friend Kangaskhan,
who instantly saw Team Rocket
for the underhanded criminals
they were,
and knew that the egg
they had was stolen.
So Kangaskhan challenged Team
Rocket for control of the egg.
Team Rocket launched a cheap
attack against Kangaskhan,
and back and forth
they went.
But in the end
it was Kangaskhan
who finally gained control
of the egg.
The egg was put safely
into its pouch,
and then seeking to return
the egg to its owner,
set off on a journey.
- Your theory
is beyond beautiful.
- I see.
So, Kangaskhan,
you fought for my egg.
- Thanks. That's such
a nice thing to do for Ash.
- Pika.
- Khan.
- Kangaskhan.
- If anyone's pocketing
that egg, it's us.
- Now that it's out of the pouch
we can poach it.
- Let's egg-stract it.
- Wobbuffet.
- Who is that?
- Prepare for trouble.
We're lending a hand.
- Make it double
and hear this command.
- To protect the world
from devastation.
- To unite all peoples
within our nation.
- To denounce the evils
of truth and love.
- To extend our reach
to the stars above.
- Jessie.
- James.
- Team Rocket blasts off
at the speed of light.
- Surrender now or prepare
to fight, fight fight.
- That's right.
- Wobbuffet.
- Don't you get tired
of losing?
- Why you little...
Go, Arbok.
- Victreebel,
get in there too.
- [shrieks]
- Haven't we discussed this?
- Go, Arbok,
do a Fang Attack now.
[all gasp]
- Kangaskhan!
- What was that?
- It's Kangaskhan's Dizzy Punch.
- Growlithe, I choose you.
- Use Flamethrower
on that giant hand.
- Growlithe.
[barks]
- [whimpers]
- Pikachu, Thunderbolt now.
- Pikachu.
- [screams]
all: Not again!
- Wobbu!
- I salute your kindness
and generosity, Kangaskhan.
It was because of your going
beyond the call of duty
that Ash has his egg back.
- Thanks a lot, Kangaskhan.
- Pikachu, Pika.
- Kangaskhan.
- Kangaskhan.
- I'm on a master quest
- Pokémon
- I'm on a master quest
- Pokémon
- You're lucky I was able
to take this case,
since it really had some complex
twists and turns.
- You sure it was the case
that was twisting and turning?
- Perhaps now you could
solve the case
of the lovesick Pokémon breeder?
- I'm sorry.
That will remain unsolved.
- Good luck.
I hope your egg hatches into
a healthy young Pokémon, Ash.
- Thank you both
for everything.
See you.
- Pika.
- Good-bye. Take care.
- Have a safe trip.
narrator:
Now that Ash's egg
has been safely returned,
our heroes can resume
their journey to Mahogany Town,
and their thoughts can
once again turn to the identity
of the soon-to-be hatched
Pokémon.
- Whatever kind of Pokémon's
inside of there,
it must be pretty tough
since it's already overcome
a Team Rocket scheme.
- Yeah, and it's still only
just an egg.
You know, Ash, I wonder if
it's gonna be a Psychic type?
- I don't care what type it is.
I just want it to get here soon.
- I know; me too.
- Pika, Pika.
- Togepi.
- No time to question
