05x25 - Xatu the Future

Post by bunniefuu »

male narrator: It's another
beautiful day for our heroes

as they continue their journey
to Mahogany Town.

But as they get closer,

it looks like they could be
in for a "hole" lot of trouble.

- Wow. It's so round.

- And deep enough to trap
the most tenacious of twerps.

- Now, for the most
important part.

- Layer one.
- No where to run.

- Now we're done.

- It's absolutely
indivisible.

- And you can't
see it either.

Ah, such impeccable timing.

- Shall we?

- To the bushes.
- Right!

- It's so pretty
and peaceful.

- A little too peaceful,
if you ask me.

- Pika.
- You're right.

Feels like Team Rocket's
up to something.

- Like what?
- Like they set a trap.

- Yeah. Let's check
this spot out.

[grunts]
- Pika.

Pika.

Pika.
- Hmm, maybe not.

- I think they broke
our hole.

- Broke it?

- Hey, of all the nerve.

- Team Rocket.

- We worked hard on that
pitfall, so start falling.

- That's right,
and it's a perfectly good hole.

So I wanna see
some falling.

- [all scream]

- [singing]
Pokémon!

- No time to question
my moves

I stick to the path
that I choose

Me and my friends
are gonna do it right

You'll never see us
run away from a fight

To be a master
is my dream

All I've got to do
is believe

- I believe

- I've got a chance
to win

I'm on my way
to victory

- Pokémon!
- I can be a champion

If I just believe

I'm on a master quest

- Master quest

- I want the whole world
to see

- I believe

- I'm gonna be
the very best

'Cause all I've got to do
is believe in me

- Pokémon!

- So it did work.
- We should land on our feet.

- Right.

- We already thought
of doing that.

- Look out below!

- [groaning]

- Thanks for the soft landing.

- Always happy to help out
when needed.

- Wobbuffet.

- [all scream]

- [all groaning]

- You caused this,
Blobbuffet.

Now get back in your ball.

- Wobb.

- Where are we?
- Pika?

- Is it possible
we dug a hole that deep?

- We're better than we thought.

- We're not impressed.

- Huh?

- Oh, no. I'm so late.

I've got to hurry.

I'm in for it big time.

Huh?

Who in the world are you?

- Prepare for trouble,
and make it quick.

- I don't have time
for this silly shtick.

- Excuse me,
but where are we?

- We're lost.

- But now that you're here,
I've found my way.

- Well, I suppose you could
just follow me.

[sighs]

- What is this place?
- Pika.

- Look, up there.

Are those Pokémon?

- Oh, wow.

- Xatu, the Mystic Pokémon.

Xatu is said to be able
to foretell the future

with a high degree
of accuracy.

But it is unknown whether
its prophecies are correct.

- People around here have been
using Xatu for centuries

to make all kinds
of important decisions.

Fortune-telling is very
important to us.

- Hmm?
Fortune-telling.

- Pikachu.
- Toge.

- Hello there.
My name's Jessie,

and I just love
fortune-telling.

Understand?

- I'm Misty.
Please tell me my fortune.

- Uh...
- Uh...

- You see,
Xatu is constantly

in a deep trance,
because it's always gazing

at the past and the future
at the same time.

By the way, I'm Calista,
but I have to go.

- Let's follow her.

- Calista.

- Even if Xatu's
on the level,

who would understand
what's being said?

- Hello? I think you forgot
that this talking Pokémon

speaks both Pokémon
and human.

- Okay, Xatu One and Three,
let's go.

- Xatu.

- Now just to be clear,

I want to hear every last detail
about my ever so happy future.

- Ever so happy?

I don't think so.

Ah!

- Keep your paws
off of my happiness.

- We're just going
to make it.

- [cheers]

- Hi. Are you ready
to see Xatu?

- Yes, we are!

- This looks like some sort
of rock concert or something.

- Now, ready.

Red fan up.

White fan up.

Red fan down.

White fan down.

- Pika?
- Togepi.

- What is this?

- Now let's get on with
today's fortune-telling.

Xatu, tell us today's
weather forecast.

- Xatu. Xa-Xa-Xa-Xa-Xatu.

- That's odd. They're speaking
in flag language.

Meowth, you've got to tell us
what they're saying.

- Me? Hey, I'm not
the coast guard, you know.

What do I know about speaking
flag language?

I only speak
Pokémon and human.

- Thanks a lot.
- Thanks a lot.

- That's one more
than both of you.

- Xa-Xa-Xatu.

- The great Xatu speaks.

If it is not cloudy today
it will be clear

with no chance for thunderstorms
unless it should rain.

- Wow.

- What kind of talk is that?

- Uh, I think it's called
double-talk.

- Pikachu.

- Rain? But I thought you
said...

Uh-oh. I know that they had
forecasted clear skies.

Hold on.

Everyone, I know it's pouring
rain out here but please,

please just stay put.

Xatu number One,
Xatu number Three, come quickly.

- Xatu.
- Wait.

- No time to lose.

The rain could be a sign
that the day is here.

I must know.

- What day?

- Calista!
- Wait up.

- Pika!
- That's odd.

- Where are they going?
- Something's up.

- Hey, you three.

- What about
the rest of it?

- With the Xatu gone,

someone's gotta to tell us
the forecast!

- But we're not soothsayers.

- We don't even know
flag language.

- [angry shouting]

- It would be a crying shame

to let such a great big crowd
go to waste

without a little showbiz.

- No, no, we won't go!

- How about a song?

- Oh, no.

A professional such as myself
would never go on unprepared.

I know. Let's play rock,
paper, scissors.

Fortune-telling has never been
one of my strong suits,

but rock, paper, scissors is.

Oh, one more thing.
Make sure you all play paper.

Ready, set, and a one,
and a two, and a three.

- Oh.

- Ha! You lose.

So there's the door.
Bye-bye.

- Hmm?
- They're awfully quiet.

- I'm used to getting
this reaction

when I showcase my talents.

Now, let's get down to it
and tail the twerps.

- Okay.
- Okay.

- I've got to hurry
and get to the bottom of this.

- Xatu Two,
come along as well.

- Xatu.

- [panting]

- What's this?

- This is our weather
information control center.

- This is fortune-telling?

- Sort of.

First, I'll compile
the latest data.

- What's that?

- What it looks like is a Xatu,
but it's really an antenna.

- crowd:
Whoa! It's the Xatu!

- The great Xatu!
There it is!

- Let's see.

There's a high-pressure ridge
moving in,

which means sunny skies with
a chance of very light rain.

No real accumulation.

- Did you get a load
of that metallic Xatu?

- It's an antenna.

- Wobb...

- [all groaning]

- You are so gone.

- Wobb!

- Please keep it down.
I can't think.

Huh?

Really?

Is it possible that
one of you have the ability

to forecast the weather?

- I don't think so.

- Pika.

- Uh, Brock?
- Mm-mm.

- Misty?
- Mm-mm.

- But I've heard
there are Pokémon

who are able
to predict the weather.

- It's not a Pokémon
I'm talking about.

It's a human.

Xatu Three told me
that a person

who is able to predict
the weather

would come here today.

- It's not me.
- It's not me.

- Me neither.

- I know an awful lot
about Pokémon breeding,

but I'm clueless
about the weather.

- But that can't be.

Xatu Three predicted it to be.

- Maybe it did, but...

- Well, Xatu Three
is getting along in years

and not quite as accurate
in predicting as before.

I'm the thirteenth generation
of my family

to report the Xatu
prophesies.

But no Xatu can live forever,

and perhaps Xatu Three
is winding down.

- That was harsh.

You should be more sensitive
to others' feelings.

- Jessie!

- I think I know
whereof I speak,

as long ago I worked at a
TV station as the weather girl.

This moving low-pressure front
should, uh,

what I mean to say is
the high-pressure front

will cause some heavy, uh...

Well, well, well.

The weather's going to be
a big mess tomorrow.

That's the deal.

I really put my all
into it.

- Wow. Why would you
just quit

such a wonderfully
exciting career?

- [laughs]

Well, you see,
my weather forecasts

were sometimes unpredictable,
so I was let go.

But I've gotten my act together
since then. Mm-hmm.

- So that means Xatu
must have been looking

into your past
the whole time

without knowing it.

- What? Whoa there.

Please, let's look
at something else, okay?

- [groans]

Xatu.

- I think Xatu's seen
quite enough of your past.

- Xatu. Xa-Xa-Xa-Xatu.

- It says you're a bit
too complex for it.

- Of course. True beauty does
come from the hard times

we can walk away from, eh?

- Whatever.

Now tell me what this
weather map is saying to you.

- Uh, let's see.

It's not talking about rain.

- But it's raining.

- So?
Then it's just a spritz.

- You sure about that?
- Huh?

- First let's take a look at all
the data we've been receiving

from our weather satellite
for the week.

- So I don't see
any major changes.

- Xatu.

- Xatu, Xa-Xa-Xa-Xatu.

Xa-Xa-Xa-Xatu.

- Oh, my.
It's the day.

- What day are you
talking about?

- Long ago, Xatu foretold
a great disaster.

A hard rain would fall
for days.

It would flood our community and
bring hardship to everyone here.

- A flood?

- And tomorrow is the day.

- Oh, no.
- Toge.

- The rising water will destroy
everything in its path,

and on that day my duties
and Xatu's will be over.

- But you know how difficult it
can be to predict the weather.

I mean, this weather map
looks to me

like there's only
a % chance of rain.

- But as long as there's any
chance, people will worry.

Everyone here
lives their daily lives

according to the prophecies
of the Xatu.

- You can't have people falling
over each other to leave

just because of a % accurate
weather forecast.

- Someone'll get hurt.

- And that someone
could be me.

- But don't all Xatu's
prophecies come true?

- Sometimes.

Lately Xatu's been making
more and more mistakes,

especially with all
its weather prophecies.

Up to now, I've been able
to convince everyone

that this weather data
was coming from Xatu,

and keep their confidence.

But if this great flood prophecy
turns out to be wrong,

I just won't know
how to explain it to people.

I'm afraid they may end up
hating the Xatu.

I just can't let that happen
to my sweet Xatu.

- Oh, give me a break.

Do you really believe that Xatu
can predict the future?

Has it ever once
even predicted yours? Huh?

- Oh, no, if I thought
that everything in the future

could be predicted,

I think I'd probably
go crazy.

- Yeah, I know what you mean.

- Just imagine
knowing everything

that's going to happen.

No hopes or dreams,
no goals or wishes.

- Yes, I suppose
that you're right.

From the time
I was a little girl

I've had my fortune read
, times

from the four main sources:

dice, cards, a crystal ball
and women's magazines.

Those lame fortune-tellers
end up being wrong

at least as many times
as they are right.

In the end you only have
yourself to rely on.

- So what now?
- Pika.

- I'll have to decide.

I've decided that

Xatu is right.

- Who's that Pokémon?

It's Ledian.

- Attention. A great flood will
strike this valley tomorrow.

- A flood!

[panicked chatter]

- Xatu, Xa-Xa-Xa...

- The Xatu have
prophesied.

You must trust this prophecy
and flee for your lives.

- [all gasp]

- So what's with
the loot donation?

- They're symbols
of the peoples' appreciation.

But I'm afraid they're more
trouble than they're worth.

- Some trouble.

- Looks more like...
- Fat city.

- Calista, what will you do

if the flood really does
come tomorrow?

- I'm not sure.

Figure out my next move,
I guess.

And of course Xatu knows
what's to come,

so you can be sure it will go
where it will be happy.

- It would be a shame
if these fortunes

were to float away
in the flood.

- The flood's tomorrow.

- So lets steal them today.

- Xatu.

- Huh?
What is it, Xatu?

- Huh?

- That money-grubbing
Delibird.

- Isn't that Delibird
part of Team Rocket?

- Pika.

- Is that a bill
in its bill?

- If you mean the bill
for our next loan payment

and Team Rocket dues,
sadly you're right.

- But Jessie,
with all that treasure...

- We could pawn the pieces,
pluck the profits

and pay them off.

- That's not yours.

Put that stuff back.

- What...
- Was...

- That?

- I predict you prepare
for trouble.

- The crystal ball says
make it double.

- To protect the future
from devastation.

- To unite all psychics
within our nation.

- To denounce the evils
of non-belief.

- To read our fortunes
from a green tea leaf.

- Jessie.
- James.

- Team Rocket searches
for mystical truth

at the speed of light.

- Surrender now
and tell me your sign,

or prepare to fight,
fight, fight.

- That's right.

- You are not looking
at the Team Rocket of old,

don't you know.

- That is correct.

With the addition of Delibird
into our ranks

we are now four strong.

- So if you want
the money, honey,

you'll have to help us out
with one teensy battle.

- But mess this one up
and you'll be getting

the kind of payoff
you hadn't quite bargained for,

is that clear?

- [squawks]

- All right, Delibird.
Present.

- [gasps]

- All Xatu
prepare for battle.

- Xatu.

- Now you're up, Weezing.

Smoke Screen.

- Weezing.

- Good job, Delibird.
Just keep on using Present.

It's been a long time
since we've tasted victory.

- Time to take a look
at the spoils.

Weezing, you can
cut the smog now.

- How can they just stand there
like nothing happened?

- Super job, Xatu.

- What happened?

- My Xatu were able to predict
exactly when and where

the presents were going
to explode.

- So they were able
to dodge the explosions.

- Life sure would be a big bore
if you knew the future,

isn't that right?

Delibird, shower them
with presents now.

- Xatu.
- Huh?

They're gonna blow,
but they still caught them.

- Yeah!

- Xatu.

- Nothing happened.

I wonder if that means
that the Delibird's presents

are simply restoring
all of the Xatus' energy.

- Wobbuffet!

- Uh, you drop something?

- Wobbuffet!

- [all scream]

- I'm predicting...

- There's a big trip...

- In our future.

all: We're blasting off again!

- Wobb!

- Xatu. Xa-Xa-Xa-Xatu.

- What now?
- Tell me quickly.

- Xatu. Xa-Xa-Xa.

Xa-Xa-Xa-Xa-Xa.

Xa-Xa-Xa-Xa-Xa.

- More bad news.

- Tell us what's wrong.

- Now that the Xatu are feeling
much stronger,

they want to change their
earlier prophecy

about the flood.

- Is it still coming?

- Yes, but today.

- What? But it's only
drizzling.

- Not anymore.

- [beeping]

- Xatu, Xa-Xa-Xa-Xatu.

- What are they saying?

- They say if you leave now
you'll be all right.

- Xa-Xa-Xa-Xatu.

The Xatu are also saying that
although predicting the future

is really what they love,

it's best to use their
predictions for guidance,

not to be ruled by them.

They don't want us all
to be living our lives in fear.

Xatu.

We should be allowed to decide
our lives for ourselves.

Okay.

- Xatu, Xa-Xa-Xa.

- And they're talking about
all of us here.

That means you too.
- Yeah.

We know that our lives can't be
decided by some fortune-teller.

- Pika.

- Xatu, Xa-Xa-Xa...

- They say it's very important
to get away from here now.

- Oh, look what's
happening.

- Xatu, Xa-Xa-Xa.

- Goodbye, my Xatu.

- Xatu.

- They're using Teleport.

- Ah!
- We're going too.

- Xatu.

- So where are you going now,
Calista?

- I think I'm gonna
go to the city

and be a TV weather reporter.

- Pika?

- Togepi.

- [grunting]

- Hey, Delibird, you mind
getting off your tail feathers

and lending a couple of wings?

We've got some serious
treasure-hunting to do.

- [mumbles]

- It's saying that its job
ain't supposed to be helping us.

Says it's a bill collector,
so it'll be back to collect.

- And I thought it was
all for one and one for all,

you deserter.

- Well, I know this much
about that disturbing Delibird:

we can count on seeing it again
tomorrow.

- Do you think we can dig up
the treasure in time?

- If we don't...
- It'll bury us.

- Maybe we should rustle us up
a few Xatu

so they can tell us if there's
really a fortune in our future.

- You know how I feel
about fortune-telling.

- Translation?

- Run for it.

- We don't need a psychic read.

Running fast is all we need.

Go!

- And now the weather.

A high-pressure front
building in from the west

will bring us
beautifully clear skies

and mild temperatures
through the weekend...

narrator: Even the
weather cannot be predicted

with % accuracy.

- In from the north.

narrator: But one thing
about the future is for certain.

Ash, Misty, and Brock will
continue towards Mahogany Town,

the next gym battle,
and the Johto League.

- No time to question
my moves

I stick to the path
that I choose

Me and my friends
are gonna do it right

To be a master
is my dream

All I've got to do
is believe

- I believe

- I'm on a master quest

- Master quest

- I want the whole world
to see

- I believe

- I'm gonna be
the very best

'Cause all I've got to do
is believe in me

- Pokémon!
