and Cobb would've been crushed
and missing forever.

Anyone report him missing?

His C.O. put him on

unauthorized absence status yesterday.

And he ended up here?

KAI: Car was empty when it
was prepped for disposal,

two days ago, so our theory is

he was k*lled and dumped
at night during off-hours.

Do we know the cause of death?

JESSE: No, not yet.

But we're really hoping
it wasn't from the crushing.

Talk about nightmare fuel.

All right, Kai,

supplying our respective
teams with caffeine fixes

how fragile our physical forms are.

I-I've seen many physical forms.

Crushed in a car is new.

You never forget your firsts.

Like the time I went to examine

a body flattened by a plane wheel.

Quite literally, like a pancake.

Couldn't eat breakfast for a week.

Right.

So, uh, given the state
of this physical form,

were you able to learn...

just... well, anything?

Postmortem examination can be
revealing in any circumstance.

For example,

the liquid oozing from the car
wasn't all blood, per Se,

since our marine bled quite a bit

before his body was dumped.

- So, what was it?
- Organs.

Decomposing and crushed in the vehicle.

I was also able to
identify time of death

as roughly to hours ago.

And then there's the evidence
of how he died.

May have been crushed and broken,

but the pieces were there.

Well, most of them.

Part of the back
of the skull is missing.

As well as the incisors.

This, unfortunately,

is not my first g*nsh*t
wound to the face.

- Any other signs of struggle?
- That's harder to tell.

But there was something else.

I found trace evidence
of a unique chemical compound

in his sinuses and lungs.

Do you know what it is?

Not something I'm familiar with.

Are the leads warm, at least?

Nobody I talked to at K-Bay
knew where Cobb went

the night he was m*rder*d,
who he was with,

- or why he had a weird chemical in his lungs.

I did learn he was from Daytona.

Had no nonjudicial punishment.

And he also brought doughnuts to work

at the motor pool every Monday.

- So the leads are colder than the coffee.

in spite of a bright future
with the Marine Corps,

he was getting out.

for travel orders back to the mainland.

- Maybe he was staying here.

Everybody I talked to assumed Cobb had

an entire life outside of K-Bay
that he just never talked about.

A life that led to his m*rder.

But do we have any ideas on what
he might have been mixed up in?

Drugs, reckless behavior?

Never popped positive or arrested.

He was squeaky clean.

But, yeah, he had to have been
staying for something.

Can't just be the palm trees.

Maybe it was for someone.

but she went on her honeymoon

He didn't post much on social media,

car accounts, literally.

And bank records show

a bunch of transactions
at auto retailers.

It's not surprising he was into cars.

He worked in the motor pool.

But what about a significant other?

that comes up a lot.

who it belongs to.

the relationship a secret?

Marines couldn't know he was racing.

Any of the other racers

As long as Travis was with me,

they knew to keep their distance.

of who Cobb has raced in the past.

People he might have crossed

and who might've had reason to k*ll him.

so we started just tracking
the cars themselves.

Cobb's had several cars
registered under his name

over the years.

Yeah, all cars you could see on a track.

But he never seemed
to hang onto them for very long.

Not if he was rolling the dice
every time he went out there.

The latest is a Toyota Supra
that he registered last week.

No records of him purchasing it, either.

TENNANT: Then who did?

The car was so new it didn't even have

a title in the system yet.

So we're in the process
of tracking the purchase.

That's got to sting, losing
a car you just bought.

you already think doesn't belong.

They pulled over a vehicle
matching the description.

LUCY: MCRT found a nine-millimeter slug,

and we're collecting DNA
and pulling chemical samples

to see if we can match those found

in Staff Sergeant Cobb's airways.

But all signs point to him
being m*rder*d in a paint booth.

What else have you found?

It's a crime haven here.

We're talking stolen vehicles,
drug paraphernalia,

fraudulent documentation,

but also racing gear.

So someone here is tied to that world.

We're trying to squeeze them,

LUCY: Solomon "Sol" De la Cruz.

second-degree as*ault.

Which he pleaded down from
attempted second-degree m*rder.

violating Hawai'i statute - :

altering the identification
mark of a vehicle.

FBI's building a drug case against him,

but the man has all the
experience to work a chop shop.

but finding the motive's
been the tricky part.

after we just raided your chop shop.

For a bunch of gearheads, they're good.

very specific rabbit holes.

And irrelevant though they may seem,

it made me realize...

look for the mistakes.

A few years ago, someone failed to file

proper documentation.

And when the IRS audit showed up,

so did the owner, Myron Chan.

Not a lot on him as of late.

Sort of been M.I.A.

any connections to Cobb?

the auto shop and the junkyard
where Cobb was dumped.
