He concentrated his studies around the mystery

of why no one has ever actually seen a Pokémon lay an Egg.

So how come no one's ever seen that?

If we knew, then it wouldn't be a mystery, would it?

See, some researchers theorize that Pokémon don't lay Eggs.

Instead, they may find their Eggs simply lying around.

But once again, there's no proof.

Which means Pokémon Eggs remain as much of a mystery today

as they've ever been.

Amazing. Come to think of it,

I've never seen a Pokémon lay an Egg either.

You've actually seen a Pokémon Egg?

Of course, the question is, will they be successful?

I think they're found in grassy areas like this.

[rotom] Exeggcute. The Egg Pokémon.

A Grass and Psychic type.

Exeggcute is made up of six eggs that communicate with each other

using telepathy.

versus Ash from Pallet Town.

it means that you're protecting a Pokémon's life.

That's a lot to be responsible for.

Nobody has any idea what kind of Pokémon it is

until it's hatched!

I wonder when that's gonna happen.

According to Professor Elm's research,

it needs to spend time with healthy Pokémon.

Being exposed to healthy and energetic Pokémon is crucial

for an Egg to hatch successfully.

[Ren] That's why many Trainers insist on walking with Eggs wherever they go

until the big day finally arrives.

Why don't you, me, and Pikachu go for a walk?

There is a story.

It says that somewhere, sometime in the past,

there was a Jigglypuff who loved to sing.

It would sing to a Pokémon Egg every day.

And then one day, the Egg hatched into an Azurill!

The story then says that Azurill's song was just like the one Jigglypuff sang.

Does that mean it was listening the whole time

-from inside of its Egg? -[Goh shrieks]

[spluttering] I'm Ash's friend Goh,

and I'm really sorry for saying that you can't hear anything in there, okay?

[Ash] Hey, Dragonite!

[whines]

I'll be taking care of this Egg.

-A new friend! -[squeals]

I think we should wait until it's hatched before we do that.

[whimpering]

[Ash snoring]

The Emanation Pokémon. A Fighting type.

Riolu can understand how people and Pokémon feel

by observing a kind of wave called Aura.

It has a flexible body with enough power

to cross three mountains and two canyons in one night.

[giggles] So that's a Riolu, huh?

I'm Ash. This is my partner, Pikachu.

There are a lot of things that it doesn't know.

And I can't just leave it alone in the wild like that.

When it was an Egg...

I was so sure that it was calling me!

At least that's how I felt.

[inaudible]

Remember what Nurse Joy said?

She told us it had been an Egg for a long time.

It gave me hope.

I was so certain Riolu was waiting for me!

I guess I was wrong.

[giggles] You know, that Pokémon's kinda fun!

It looks to me like Riolu's trying to tell you something.

I think it wants you to catch it!

[narrator] After hatching from an Egg, a slightly stubborn Riolu

has joined Ash's team.
