So I figure we’d better be in tip-top shape!

Trapinch’s nest is at the bottom of a cone-shaped hole,

where it patiently waits for something to fall in.

It can break rocks apart with its huge jaws.

-[Drivers yelling] -[Goh] So that’s a Trapinch nest!

If I catch it, we can save them!

[munches]

With a super curveball!

[tense music]

-[groans] -[warbling]

[whistling]

[chimes]

[Rotom] Trapinch has been registered to your Pokédex!

That hole just suddenly sucked us in.

Vibrava can create ultrasonic waves with its double set of wings.

Those waves can cause headaches in humans.

[grunts] Curveball, go!

[grunts]

[Rotom] Vibrava has been registered to your Pokédex!

Trapinch’s evolved form is Vibrava…

So maybe Vibrava’s form…

[Ash] “Who’s that Pokémon?”

[upbeat music]

[Rotem] Flygon. The Mystic Pokémon. A Ground and Dragon type.

Flygon has been called “the Desert Spirit.”

With its powerful wings, it creates sandstorms to hide in.

I get it. Flygon must be the one responsible for that singing!

Huh?

[Goh] The singing voice was produced by Flygon’s wings and the sand it kicks up.

It probably kicked up the sandstorm to create a habitat for itself here,

and perhaps to keep people out.

That’s what this is about…

Still, we’re gonna have to stop them.

Yeah! We’ve got to stop the sandstorm!

[groans]

I figured catching Flygon wasn’t going to be easy!

Hey, Ash, would you help me battle it?

‘Kay, Sobble… Go!

[babbling]

-[Goh grunts] -Pikachu, you, too!

[groaning]

[loud grunt]

It’s no good. Flygon just moves faster.

[grunts]

[growling]

-Draco Meteor! -Dodge it, quick!

[grunting]

[squealing]

Get in close! Dodge, but get right in Flygon’s face!

[grunts]

Are you sure? You don’t wanna lose do you?

Battling from a distance is safer!

-[whooshing] -[grunting]

[lively music]

[Ash] Why? What could Goh’s plan be?

[whooshing]

Raboot! Hop on the meteors so that you can get closer!

[grunting]

Pick a meteor and use Ember!

[grunting]

[shrieking]

[Raboot trilling]

[whistling]

[chimes]

[Goh] Fantastic! Unbelievable!

All right! That’s the way to do it!

Grabbing a meteor and using it to launch Ember, huh?

[all cheering]

What kind of out-of-the-box strategy is that?

What are you talking about?

-I learned all that stuff from you. -Me?

I’m talking about using unexpected moves,

and not giving up until you get the thing you want.

When you’re feeling like yourself, you do that all the time.

Huh?

That’s not the only thing.

I wanted Ember to be our final touch.

[Goh] That’s a unique move that Raboot and I came up with together.

[upbeat music]

[chuckles] I just can’t end up losing, now can I?

I think Raboot feels the same way, too…

That’s what it was about. Wow.

You know what? Since we battled Grapploct,

I made the mistake of trying to stay back as much as I can.

But it’s possible Riolu wants something different…

Yeah, that’s gotta be it, you know?

Riolu and I have been practicing Fighting-type moves all this time.

[both giggling]

If we use Ember and lose,

what we need to do is figure a way to use it and win.

Even with the same move,

good strategy can make it two or three times as effective

as it would’ve been.

It turns out battling can be really deep. You know?

[chuckles]

[sighs]

Are you kidding?

Oh, no! You fall apart over a losing streak?

[Ash] I'm such a dummy.

I guess it’s time to start from square one.

-[babbling] -Pikachu. Riolu,

I’m gonna start working really hard again

so I can challenge Leon, if you’re up for it.

-Pikachu! -[babbles]

Yeah! We’ll keep it up and get even more powerful Pokémon!

[narrator] Goh’s a bit wiser,

and Ash has decided his approach needs tweaking.
