their difficult journey across the rugged

We'll never get across this island.

BROCK Hang in there a little longer.

By now we should be almost to the bridge

that'll take us into the next town.

- What town is that? - Riado Town.

It's a small village at the foot

of the next mountain we have to cross over.

I thought it'd be a good place for us to stop and rest up.

- 'Guys!' - Huh?

This must be the Riado Town bridge here.

- You were right, Brock. - That's good.

So let's cross it, get into town, and take a break.

Sounds like a plan.

Absol live in steep mountainous regions

and rarely venture down into areas inhabited by humans.

But should an Absol be seen by humans

'it is said that catastrophe is soon to follow.'

I don't know, but now the Absol's here

and the bridge is not.

That's another bridge that you've destroyed.

They're trying to hurt Absol.

- The bridge wasn't enough? - Now you wanna to fight?

Maybe it didn't feel like fighting.

Or, maybe the Absol's not to blame.

How do we know it destroyed the bridge?

ASH 'Are you sure it's the Absol'

'that are causin' all these problems?'

Yes, they never used to come down

from those mountains at all.

About a month ago, we began to see them regularly

and all the village's troubles started right at the same time.

You mean, troubles like the bridge we saw get destroyed?

And that was the third bridge that's been destroyed

since they started coming around.

It's obvious the Absol are responsible.

It's not how the Pokédex says it is

that Absol foreshadow disaster.

Those things create catastrophes themselves.

I can't believe any Pokémon would do that.

Those Absol made firewood out of three bridges.

I'm just saying, I haven't known any Pokémon to be that way.

He's hopeless.

Anyway, we're not gonna just sit back

and watch while those monsters destroy our village.

The expert Absol hunters we hired

will take care of this situation in no time.

BROCK/ASH/MAY Absol hunters?

- 'Keep it down out there.' - Huh?

Can't you see we're trying to work here?

We're preparing for the hunt.

You can't hunt Absol on an empty stomach.

This is working out even better than we'd hoped.

We'll just take the Twerps out with us on the Absol hunt

and first chance we get we'll grab Pikachu.

Yeah, we were only pretending to be hunters for the free food.

What ever made us think we wanted

a Disaster Pokémon anyway?

Just think what could happen if we catch that Absol

and gave it to the Boss as a present.

[imitating Boss] "Imagine the Boss, happily brushin' his teeth"

as he stands out in his back yard

gettin' ready for the day.

[imitating Boss] "Ah, what a gloriously beautiful day it is."

MEOWTH Just then the Absol we gave to the Boss as a gift shows up

and within seconds, the Boss's beautiful day

goes horribly wrong.

[imitating Boss] "Disaster Pokémon in my backyard"

"first thing in the morning."

"Meowth and friends are sure gonna pay for this."

"And for my dry cleaning bill too."

[screams]

What happened? What could've possibly caused that?

Beats me.

Maybe she was imaginin' us at our new jobs

probably involved wearin' hair nets and name tags.

[AFFIRMATIVE]

that the Absol didn't cause disasters.

and he was comin' in.

'But that was the last time we heard from him.'

Gordon was going to bring in was an actual Absol that he caught?

I don't know, but I trust my big brother

and if he said he had proof that Absol don't cause disasters

'then I don't believe they do either.'

I agree, I think the Absol are innocent.

I've been up here a bunch of times.

I keep hoping I'll find some clue about Absol.

But, so far I haven't found one.

Well, there's Squaretop.

Squaretop's the highest mountain on the island

and the heart of the Absol's territory.

Then we ought to see some.

[HOPEFUL]

Hey, guys, hurry up here and take a look at this.

NICKY 'Yeah, come on, slowpokes.'

How could those two have gotten to the peak already?

It's 'cause they're smaller.

And carrying less weight, let's rest for a sec.

Hmm? Hey.

What? What is it, Brock?

There's water coming out of this rock.

- Huh? - That is weird.

'Uh, there's water on the ground here too.'

This whole rock face obviously has water flowing underneath it.

- 'Absol!' - Huh?

NICKY 'There it is on the mountain!'

- Wow, look at it. - It's just watching us.

So, do they really expect us to catch that?

We are expert Absol hunters.

And that's the biggest disaster of all.

Absol, listen to me.

I don't believe you're the one causing these disasters.

Well, it looks like Pikachu's Thunderbolt Attack

stopped Absol from attacking.

Yeah, but I'm still not sure it was lookin'

for a fight in the first place.

But the way it was moving toward those two

it sure seemed like it was preparing to attack.

I just don't think a Pokémon would do

somethin' bad like that all on its own.

'I think Nicky is right about the Absol.'

MAX 'Huh?'

Hey, look, the water's really comin' through now.

I wonder why.

There's always been water up here

but I've never seen this much before.

MAX/NICKY Huh?

[DETERMINED]

Swellow's not gonna make it in time, Ash.

Well, most folks I tell don't even believe it.

It all started right around here.

I'd cornered an Absol. I was getting ready to catch it.

I ended up saving one.

After that I was even more convinced

that these Absol are not Disaster Pokémon.

And then, that got me wondering.

I wanted to see if groups of Absol

in other mountain areas might be different.

'So, in order to see for myself, I set out from the village'

'on a long journey, investigating Absol'

'in many different regions.'

Wow. So, what did you learn about 'em?

I learned that Absol have been getting all the blame

for a lot of disasters in a lot of different places.

And in fact, in most of those cases

I did see some Absol living there.

But still, it was sad that they always got the blame

even though there was never any actual evidence.

'Another thing I learned is that wild Absol'

'tend to steer clear of humans.'

'So they're very hard to investigate directly.'

ASH/BROCK/MAY/MAX Aw..

GORDON 'But you wanna know the most important thing?'

What is it, Gordon?

An Absol will never initiate an attack

unless something provokes it.

And they would never do anyone harm

unless they felt something was threatening them.

Also, they'll never go into human settlements

unless there's a very good reason.

Like what?

Like they're scared? But scared of what?

Or maybe they're tryin' to let the villagers know

someone else is in trouble.

Like who? And just what kind of trouble are we talkin' about?

Huh? Water trouble.

Yes! That's it! Hey, Gordon?

When you came into the the town, did you get a look at the river?

Sure did, I noticed it was running

higher and faster than usual.

- I knew it! - Huh?

The source of that river is inside

of these stone mountains, isn't it?

Yeah, there's a huge spring

inside the main peak that feeds it.

It's there, right behind you.

BROCK 'So if the river's higher it means'

'the volume of water has increased.'

'That spring must be putting out a lot more water than usual.'

That explains the geyser that came out of the wall.

Well, then, now what do you think's gonna happen?

That was the mountain letting off some pressure

but it's building again and next time

there'll be a whole lot more water.

Like, enough to flood Riado Town out.

[gasping]

That means, Absol was trying

to warn people about this.

It must have known that the mountain

was filling up with too much water.

So that's why it led us to the stone

with water seepin' out of it.

And why it appeared at the bridge when we were crossing

and then again just now at Squaretop.

Probably because you saved it.

It wants to return the favor now

that the village is in danger, right?

Maybe, what do we do?

- 'Help!' - Huh?

The hunters!

JESSIE Somebody help us!

JAMES Get us down from here!

MEOWTH Before gravity does.

[gasping]

MAX 'Here comes the flooding.'

'Just like Brock predicted!'

MAY But what can we do about it?
